Orthodox ReadingJesus therefore, again deeply moved within himselfⓘ, came to the tombⓘ: it was a cave (spḗlaion), closed by the golel, the rolling stone, which lay over it.
39
Orthodox ReadingJesus says: «Take away the stoneⓘ». Marthaⓘ, the sister of the deceased, by now an avelah in close mourning according to the funerary halakhahⓘ, says to him: «Lordⓘ, by now he gives off an odor: he has been four daysⓘ».
40
Greekλέγει αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Οὐκ εἶπόν σοι ὅτι ἐὰν πιστεύσῃς ⸀ὄψῃ τὴν δόξαν τοῦ θεοῦ;
Orthodox ReadingJesus says to her: «Did I not tell you that, if you will believeⓘ, you will see the glory of Godⓘ?».
41
Gnostic TranslationTolsero dunque la pietra. Gesù allora alzò gli occhi e disse: «Padre, ti rendo grazie perché mi hai ascoltato.
Orthodox ReadingSo they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes on highⓘ and said: «Fatherⓘ, I give you thanks because you have heard meⓘ.
421
Orthodox ReadingI knewⓘ that you always hear me; but I said it on account of the crowd gathered for the nichum avelim, the consolation of the mournersⓘ, so that they may believe that you have sent me as shaliachⓘ».
43
Gnostic TranslationDetto questo, gridò a gran voce: «Lazzaro, vieni fuori!».
Orthodox ReadingAnd having said this, he cried out with a loud voiceⓘ: «Lazarus, come outⓘ!».
44
Orthodox ReadingThe dead manⓘ came out, bound feet and hands with the tachrikhin, the funeralⓘ bands, and his face wrapped in a sudariumⓘ. Jesus says to them: «Unbind himⓘ and let him goⓘ».
