⸀Ἐπιστραφεὶς ὁ Πέτρος βλέπει τὸν μαθητὴν ὃν ἠγάπα ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀκολουθοῦντα, ὃς καὶ ἀνέπεσεν ἐν τῷ δείπνῳ ἐπὶ τὸ στῆθος αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν· Κύριε, τίς ἐστιν ὁ παραδιδούς σε;
Pietro si voltò e vide che li seguiva quel discepolo che Gesù amava, colui che nella cena si era chinato sul suo petto e gli aveva domandato: Signore, chi è che ti tradisce?
Peterⓘ turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus lovedⓘ, the one who at the supper had reclined on his breastⓘ and had asked him who would betray himⓘ.

τοῦτον ⸀οὖν ἰδὼν ὁ Πέτρος λέγει τῷ Ἰησοῦ· Κύριε, οὗτος δὲ τί;
Pietro dunque, come lo vide, disse a Gesù: «Signore, e lui?».
When Peter saw himⓘ, he said to Jesusⓘ: «Lord, and what about him?».

λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἐὰν αὐτὸν θέλω μένειν ἕως ἔρχομαι, τί πρὸς σέ; σύ ⸂μοι ἀκολούθει⸃.
Gesù gli rispose: «Se voglio che egli rimanga finché io venga, a te che importa? Tu seguimi».
«If I want him to remainⓘ until I comeⓘ, what is that to you? You follow meⓘ».

ἐξῆλθεν οὖν ⸂οὗτος ὁ λόγος⸃ εἰς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὅτι ὁ μαθητὴς ἐκεῖνος οὐκ ἀποθνῄσκει. ⸂οὐκ εἶπεν δὲ⸃ αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι οὐκ ἀποθνῄσκει ἀλλ’· Ἐὰν αὐτὸν θέλω μένειν ἕως ἔρχομαι, τί πρὸς σέ;
Si diffuse perciò tra i fratelli la voce che quel discepolo non sarebbe morto. Gesù però non gli aveva detto che non sarebbe morto, ma: «Se voglio che egli rimanga finché io venga, a te che importa?».
The report spread among the brethrenⓘ that that disciple would not dieⓘ. But Jesus had not said that he would not dieⓘ, but rather: «If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?».

Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ μαθητὴς ὁ μαρτυρῶν περὶ τούτων καὶ ⸀ὁ γράψας ταῦτα, καὶ οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἀληθὴς ⸂αὐτοῦ ἡ μαρτυρία ἐστίν⸃.
Questi è il discepolo che testimonia queste cose e le ha scritte, e noi sappiamo che la sua testimonianza è vera.
This is the disciple who bears witnessⓘ to these things and has written themⓘ, and we know that his testimony is trueⓘ.

ἔστιν δὲ καὶ ἄλλα πολλὰ ⸀ἃ ἐποίησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς, ἅτινα ἐὰν γράφηται καθ’ ἕν, οὐδ’ αὐτὸν οἶμαι τὸν κόσμον ⸀χωρήσειν τὰ γραφόμενα ⸀βιβλία.
Vi sono ancora molte altre cose compiute da Gesù che, se fossero scritte una per una, penso che il mondo stesso non basterebbe a contenere i libri che si dovrebbero scrivere.
There are many other thingsⓘ that Jesus did: if they were to be written one by oneⓘ, I suppose that the world itself would not have room for the booksⓘ.
