Ἐν οἷς ἐπισυναχθεισῶν τῶν μυριάδων τοῦ ὄχλου, ὥστε καταπατεῖν ἀλλήλους, ἤρξατο λέγειν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ πρῶτον· Προσέχετε ἑαυτοῖς ἀπὸ τῆς ζύμης, ⸂ἥτις ἐστὶν ὑπόκρισις, τῶν Φαρισαίων⸃.
Nel frattempo si erano radunate migliaia di persone, al punto che si calpestavano a vicenda. Gesù cominciò a dire anzitutto ai suoi discepoli: «Guardatevi dal lievito dei farisei, che è l'ipocrisia.
Meanwhile, when thousands of the crowdⓘ had gathered so as to trample one another, he began to say first of all to his disciples disciplesⓘ: «Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees (perushim), the observant Phariseesⓘ — that which is hypocrisyⓘ —: the leaven that, in the tradition, figures the yetzer ha-ra', the inclination to evil that ferments hidden in the heart, the theatrical mask (hypó-krisis= to act beneath a mask) that separates word and heart.

οὐδὲν δὲ συγκεκαλυμμένον ἐστὶν ὃ οὐκ ἀποκαλυφθήσεται, καὶ κρυπτὸν ὃ οὐ γνωσθήσεται.
Non c'è nulla di nascosto che non sarà svelato, né di segreto che non sarà conosciuto.
Nothing is coveredⓘ without being unveiled, nothing remains hiddenⓘ without becoming known: the eschatological principle of transparency on the day of judgment (yom ha-din) yom ha-dinⓘ.

ἀνθ’ ὧν ὅσα ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ εἴπατε ἐν τῷ φωτὶ ἀκουσθήσεται, καὶ ὃ πρὸς τὸ οὖς ἐλαλήσατε ἐν τοῖς ταμείοις κηρυχθήσεται ἐπὶ τῶν δωμάτων.
Quindi ciò che avrete detto nelle tenebre sarà udito in piena luce, e ciò che avrete detto all'orecchio nelle stanze più interne sarà annunciato dalle terrazze.
Therefore what you have said in the darknessⓘ will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner roomsⓘ will be proclaimed from the rooftopsⓘ.

Λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν τοῖς φίλοις μου, μὴ φοβηθῆτε ἀπὸ τῶν ἀποκτεινόντων τὸ σῶμα καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα μὴ ἐχόντων περισσότερόν τι ποιῆσαι.
Dico a voi, amici miei: non temete coloro che uccidono il corpo e dopo questo non possono fare più nulla.
I say to you, my friendsⓘ: do not fear those who kill the bodyⓘ — the ROMAN power of the ius gladii, the real persecutions — and after that can do nothing more.

ὑποδείξω δὲ ὑμῖν τίνα φοβηθῆτε· φοβήθητε τὸν μετὰ τὸ ἀποκτεῖναι ⸂ἔχοντα ἐξουσίαν⸃ ἐμβαλεῖν εἰς τὴν γέενναν· ναί, λέγω ὑμῖν, τοῦτον φοβήθητε.
Vi mostrerò invece di chi dovete aver paura: temete colui che, dopo aver ucciso, ha il potere di gettare nella Geènna. Sì, ve lo dico, temete costui.
I will show you whom to fear: fear the one who, after killing, has power to cast into Gehenna (gehinnom), the valley of judgment Gehennaⓘ; yes, I tell you, fear this one — the filial FEAR of God, not of Rome: the judgment extends beyond the death of the body, into the olam ha-ba, the world to come.

οὐχὶ πέντε στρουθία ⸀πωλοῦνται ἀσσαρίων δύο; καὶ ἓν ἐξ αὐτῶν οὐκ ἔστιν ἐπιλελησμένον ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ.
Cinque passeri non si vendono forse per due soldi? Eppure nemmeno uno di essi è dimenticato davanti a Dio.
Are not five sparrowsⓘ sold for two assariaⓘ? Yet not one of them is forgotten before Godⓘ.

ἀλλὰ καὶ αἱ τρίχες τῆς κεφαλῆς ὑμῶν πᾶσαι ἠρίθμηνται· ⸀μὴ φοβεῖσθε· πολλῶν στρουθίων διαφέρετε.
Anche i capelli del vostro capo sono tutti contati. Non temete: valete più di molti passeri.
Indeed, even the hairs of your head are all numberedⓘ. Do not fear: you are worth more than many sparrowsⓘ.

Λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν, πᾶς ὃς ἂν ⸀ὁμολογήσῃ ἐν ἐμοὶ ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀνθρώπων, καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὁμολογήσει ἐν αὐτῷ ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀγγέλων τοῦ θεοῦ·
Io vi dico: chiunque mi riconoscerà davanti agli uomini, anche il Figlio dell'uomo lo riconoscerà davanti agli angeli di Dio;
I say to you: everyone who confesses me before menⓘ, the Son of Man too — the Danielic use of the bar-enash of Dn 7:13 as the representative of the people of the holy ones before the throne — will acknowledge him before the angels of Godⓘ.

ὁ δὲ ἀρνησάμενός με ἐνώπιον τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἀπαρνηθήσεται ἐνώπιον τῶν ἀγγέλων τοῦ θεοῦ.
ma chi mi rinnegherà davanti agli uomini sarà rinnegato davanti agli angeli di Dio.
But whoever denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.

καὶ πᾶς ὃς ἐρεῖ λόγον εἰς τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ τῷ δὲ εἰς τὸ ἅγιον πνεῦμα βλασφημήσαντι οὐκ ἀφεθήσεται.
Chiunque parlerà contro il Figlio dell'uomo, gli sarà perdonato; ma a chi bestemmierà lo Spirito Santo, non sarà perdonato.
And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but the one who has blasphemed against the Holy Spiritⓘ will not be forgiven.

ὅταν δὲ ⸀εἰσφέρωσιν ὑμᾶς ἐπὶ τὰς συναγωγὰς καὶ τὰς ἀρχὰς καὶ τὰς ἐξουσίας, μὴ ⸀μεριμνήσητε πῶς ⸂ἢ τί⸃ ἀπολογήσησθε ἢ τί εἴπητε·
Quando vi porteranno davanti alle sinagoghe, ai magistrati e alle autorità, non preoccupatevi di come o di che cosa discolparvi, o di che cosa dire,
When they bring youⓘ before the tribunals of the synagogues (battei-din) synagoguesⓘ, before the magistratesⓘ and the authoritiesⓘ, do not anxiously worryⓘ about how or in what way you should defend yourselves nor what you should say:

τὸ γὰρ ἅγιον πνεῦμα διδάξει ὑμᾶς ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ἃ δεῖ εἰπεῖν.
perché lo Spirito Santo vi insegnerà in quel momento ciò che bisogna dire».
the Holy Spiritⓘ will teachⓘ you in that same hour what must be said — the Spirit of holiness (ruach ha-qodesh) as the advocate for the defense, cf. Ex 4:12 to Moses.
