Ἔστωσαν ὑμῶν αἱ ὀσφύες περιεζωσμέναι καὶ οἱ λύχνοι καιόμενοι,
Siate pronti, con le vesti strette ai fianchi e le lampade accese;
Let your loins be girded and your lamps burningⓘ, with garments drawn tight at the waist in the gesture of the Pesach פֶּסַח the paschal girdingⓘ;

καὶ ὑμεῖς ὅμοιοι ἀνθρώποις προσδεχομένοις τὸν κύριον ἑαυτῶν πότε ἀναλύσῃ ἐκ τῶν γάμων, ἵνα ἐλθόντος καὶ κρούσαντος εὐθέως ἀνοίξωσιν αὐτῷ.
siate simili a quelli che aspettano il loro padrone quando torna dalle nozze, per aprirgli subito, appena arriva e bussa.
and you like men who await their master's return from the wedding feast, to open for him as soon as he arrives and knocks.

μακάριοι οἱ δοῦλοι ἐκεῖνοι, οὓς ἐλθὼν ὁ κύριος εὑρήσει γρηγοροῦντας· ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι περιζώσεται καὶ ἀνακλινεῖ αὐτοὺς καὶ παρελθὼν διακονήσει αὐτοῖς.
Beati quei servi che il padrone al suo ritorno troverà ancora svegli; in verità io vi dico, si stringerà le vesti ai fianchi, li farà mettere a tavola e passerà a servirli.
Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find still awakeⓘ; amèn, I say to you, he will gird his garments, he will make them recline at table and pass by to serve themⓘ at the banquet of the olam ha-ba (the world to come).

⸂κἂν ἐν τῇ δευτέρᾳ κἂν⸃ ἐν τῇ τρίτῃ φυλακῇ ἔλθῃ καὶ εὕρῃ οὕτως, μακάριοί ⸀εἰσιν ἐκεῖνοι.
E se, giungendo nel mezzo della notte o prima dell'alba, li troverà così, beati loro!
And if he comes in the second or in the third watchⓘ and finds them so, blessed are they!

Τοῦτο δὲ γινώσκετε ὅτι εἰ ᾔδει ὁ οἰκοδεσπότης ποίᾳ ὥρᾳ ὁ κλέπτης ἔρχεται, ⸂οὐκ ἂν⸃ ἀφῆκεν ⸀διορυχθῆναι τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ.
Sappiate questo: se il padrone di casa sapesse a quale ora viene il ladro, non si lascerebbe scassinare la casa.
Know this: if the master of the house (baal ha-bayit) knew at what hour the thiefⓘ comes, he would not let his house be broken into.

καὶ ⸀ὑμεῖς γίνεσθε ἕτοιμοι, ὅτι ᾗ ὥρᾳ οὐ δοκεῖτε ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἔρχεται.
Anche voi tenetevi pronti, perché, nell'ora che non immaginate, viene il Figlio dell'uomo.
You too keep ready, for at the hour you do not expect the Son of Man comes, the awaited mashiach Bar Enashⓘ.

Εἶπεν ⸀δὲ ὁ Πέτρος· Κύριε, πρὸς ἡμᾶς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην λέγεις ἢ καὶ πρὸς πάντας;
Allora Pietro disse: «Signore, questa parabola la dici per noi o anche per tutti?».
Peter said: «Lord, this mashal (a riddle-tale with a double bottom) this parableⓘ do you tell for us or also for everyone?».

⸂καὶ εἶπεν⸃ ὁ κύριος· Τίς ἄρα ἐστὶν ὁ πιστὸς οἰκονόμος, ⸀ὁ φρόνιμος, ὃν καταστήσει ὁ κύριος ἐπὶ τῆς θεραπείας αὐτοῦ τοῦ διδόναι ἐν καιρῷ ⸀τὸ σιτομέτριον;
Il Signore rispose: «Chi è dunque l'amministratore fidato e prudente, che il padrone metterà a capo della sua servitù per dare la razione di cibo a tempo debito?
The Lord said: «Who then is the faithful and prudent stewardⓘ, whom the master will set over his household to distribute in due time (be-itto), in the tzedakah of just provision, the ration of grainⓘ?

μακάριος ὁ δοῦλος ἐκεῖνος, ὃν ἐλθὼν ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ εὑρήσει ποιοῦντα οὕτως·
Beato quel servo che il padrone, arrivando, troverà ad agire così.
Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find doing so.

ἀληθῶς λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐπὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν αὐτοῦ καταστήσει αὐτόν.
Davvero io vi dico che lo metterà a capo di tutti i suoi averi.
Truly I say to you that he will set him over all his possessions.

ἐὰν δὲ εἴπῃ ὁ δοῦλος ἐκεῖνος ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ· Χρονίζει ὁ κύριός μου ἔρχεσθαι, καὶ ἄρξηται τύπτειν τοὺς παῖδας καὶ τὰς παιδίσκας, ἐσθίειν τε καὶ πίνειν καὶ μεθύσκεσθαι,
Ma se quel servo dicesse in cuor suo: Il mio padrone tarda a venire, e cominciasse a percuotere i servi e le serve, a mangiare, a bere e a ubriacarsi,
But if that servant should say in his heart: My master delays his comingⓘ, and should begin to beat the avadim and the maidservants, the other servants of the house, to eat, drink and get drunk,

ἥξει ὁ κύριος τοῦ δούλου ἐκείνου ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ οὐ προσδοκᾷ καὶ ἐν ὥρᾳ ᾗ οὐ γινώσκει, καὶ διχοτομήσει αὐτὸν καὶ τὸ μέρος αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν ἀπίστων θήσει.
il padrone di quel servo arriverà un giorno in cui non se l'aspetta e a un'ora che non sa, lo punirà severamente e gli infliggerà la sorte che meritano gli infedeli.
the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect it and at an hour he does not know, he will cut him in twoⓘ and will assign him the lot of one who is without emunah, the trustful fidelity to the covenant, in the gehinnom, the mechalelei ha-brit who have broken the covenant, in the din (the judgment).

ἐκεῖνος δὲ ὁ δοῦλος ὁ γνοὺς τὸ θέλημα τοῦ κυρίου ⸀αὐτοῦ καὶ μὴ ἑτοιμάσας ⸀ἢ ποιήσας πρὸς τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ δαρήσεται πολλάς·
Il servo che, conoscendo la volontà del padrone, non avrà disposto o agito secondo la sua volontà, riceverà molte percosse;
That servant who knew his master's will, his mitzvot, and did not act according to it, acting as a mezid (with full awareness) and without teshuvah, the returning will be beaten with many blowsⓘ;

ὁ δὲ μὴ γνοὺς ποιήσας δὲ ἄξια πληγῶν δαρήσεται ὀλίγας. παντὶ δὲ ᾧ ἐδόθη πολύ, πολὺ ζητηθήσεται παρ’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ᾧ παρέθεντο πολύ, περισσότερον αἰτήσουσιν αὐτόν.
quello invece che, non conoscendola, avrà fatto cose meritevoli di percosse, ne riceverà poche. A chiunque fu dato molto, molto sarà chiesto; a chi fu affidato molto, sarà richiesto molto di più.
but the one who did not know it, acting as a shogeg (through inadvertence) will be beaten with few blowsⓘ. To whomever much was given, much will be required; from the one to whom much was entrusted, more will be demanded: passivum divinum, it is God who gives and calls to account.

Πῦρ ἦλθον βαλεῖν ⸀ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, καὶ τί θέλω εἰ ἤδη ἀνήφθη;
Sono venuto a gettare fuoco sulla terra, e quanto vorrei che fosse già acceso!
I came to cast fire upon the earthⓘ, and how I wish it were already kindled!

βάπτισμα δὲ ἔχω βαπτισθῆναι, καὶ πῶς συνέχομαι ἕως ⸀ὅτου τελεσθῇ.
Ho un battesimo nel quale sarò battezzato, e come sono angosciato finché non sia compiuto!
I have an immersion, a tevilah תְּבִילָה with which I must be immersedⓘ, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!

δοκεῖτε ὅτι εἰρήνην παρεγενόμην δοῦναι ἐν τῇ γῇ; οὐχί, λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀλλ’ ἢ διαμερισμόν.
Pensate che io sia venuto a portare pace sulla terra? No, io vi dico, ma divisione.
Do you think that I came to give peace upon the earth? No, I say to you, but divisionⓘ: the choice for the malkhut of the mashiach, the Kingdom, tears apart even the family.

ἔσονται γὰρ ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν πέντε ἐν ⸂ἑνὶ οἴκῳ⸃ διαμεμερισμένοι, τρεῖς ἐπὶ δυσὶν καὶ δύο ἐπὶ τρισίν,
D'ora innanzi, se in una famiglia vi sono cinque persone, saranno divisi tre contro due e due contro tre;
From now on five in one single house will be divided, three against two and two against three;

⸀διαμερισθήσονται πατὴρ ἐπὶ υἱῷ καὶ υἱὸς ἐπὶ πατρί, μήτηρ ⸀ἐπὶ ⸀θυγατέρα καὶ θυγάτηρ ἐπὶ ⸂τὴν μητέρα⸃, πενθερὰ ἐπὶ τὴν νύμφην αὐτῆς καὶ νύμφη ἐπὶ τὴν ⸀πενθεράν.
si divideranno padre contro figlio e figlio contro padre, madre contro figlia e figlia contro madre, suocera contro nuora e nuora contro suocera».
they will be divided father against son and son against father, mother against daughter, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law: these are the chevlei mashiach, the birth-pangs of the Messiah Micah 7:6ⓘ».

Ἔλεγεν δὲ καὶ τοῖς ὄχλοις· Ὅταν ⸀ἴδητε νεφέλην ἀνατέλλουσαν ⸀ἐπὶ δυσμῶν, εὐθέως λέγετε ⸀ὅτι Ὄμβρος ἔρχεται, καὶ γίνεται οὕτως·
Diceva poi alle folle: «Quando vedete una nuvola salire da ponente, subito dite: Arriva la pioggia, e così accade.
He then said also to the crowds of the am ha-aretz, the unobservant common folk, not the haverim, the associates observant of purity ʿam ha-aretzⓘ: «When you see a cloud rising from the westⓘ, at once you say: A downpour is coming, and so it happens.

καὶ ὅταν νότον πνέοντα, λέγετε ὅτι Καύσων ἔσται, καὶ γίνεται.
E quando soffia lo scirocco, dite: Farà caldo, e così accade.
And when the siroccoⓘ blows, you say: It will be hot, and so it happens.

ὑποκριταί, τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γῆς καὶ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ οἴδατε δοκιμάζειν, τὸν ⸂δὲ καιρὸν⸃ τοῦτον πῶς ⸂οὐκ οἴδατε δοκιμάζειν⸃;
Ipocriti! Sapete valutare l'aspetto della terra e del cielo; come mai questo tempo non sapete valutarlo?
Hypocritesⓘ! You know how to discern the face of the earth and of the sky; how is it that you do not know how to discern the signs of the times, the ittim, the hour that calls to teshuvah, the return the kairós of this hourⓘ?

Τί δὲ καὶ ἀφ’ ἑαυτῶν οὐ κρίνετε τὸ δίκαιον;
E perché non giudicate voi stessi ciò che è giusto?
And why do you not judge for yourselves what is just, the tzedeq tò díkaionⓘ?

ὡς γὰρ ὑπάγεις μετὰ τοῦ ἀντιδίκου σου ἐπ’ ἄρχοντα, ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ δὸς ἐργασίαν ἀπηλλάχθαι ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ, μήποτε κατασύρῃ σε πρὸς τὸν κριτήν, καὶ ὁ κριτής σε ⸀παραδώσει τῷ πράκτορι, καὶ ὁ πράκτωρ σε ⸀βαλεῖ εἰς φυλακήν.
Quando vai con il tuo avversario davanti al magistrato, lungo la strada cerca di trovare un accordo con lui, perché non ti trascini davanti al giudice e il giudice ti consegni all'esattore e l'esattore ti getti in prigione.
As you go with your adversaryⓘ before the archon, the magistrate who presides over the court, along the way seek the pesharah, the settlement that discharges the debt to be rid of himⓘ, lest he drag you before the dayyan, the judge of the bet din, the tribunal, and the dayyan hand you over to the collectorⓘ, and the collector cast you into prison.

λέγω σοι, οὐ μὴ ἐξέλθῃς ἐκεῖθεν ἕως ⸂καὶ τὸ⸃ ἔσχατον λεπτὸν ἀποδῷς.
Io ti dico: non ne uscirai finché non avrai pagato fino all'ultimo spicciolo».
I say to you: you will not get out until you have paid down to the last small coinⓘ».
