Orthodox ReadingBear therefore fruits worthy of teshuvah (of conversion), and do not begin to say within yourselves, trusting in zekhut avot (the merit of the fathers, mere descent as a guarantee): We have Abraham as our fatherⓘ zekhut avotⓘ; for I tell you that God is able, from these stonesⓘ, to raise up children to Abraham.

Greekἤδη δὲ καὶ ἡ ἀξίνη πρὸς τὴν ῥίζαν τῶν δένδρων κεῖται· πᾶν οὖν δένδρον μὴ ποιοῦν καρπὸν καλὸν ἐκκόπτεται καὶ εἰς πῦρ βάλλεται.

Greekἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ⸀ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· Ὁ ἔχων δύο χιτῶνας μεταδότω τῷ μὴ ἔχοντι, καὶ ὁ ἔχων βρώματα ὁμοίως ποιείτω.
Orthodox ReadingHe answered and said to them: «Whoever has two tunicsⓘ, let him give to the one who has none — it is tzedakah (the redistributive justice), the concrete mitzvah of the return tzedakahⓘ — and whoever has food, let him do likewise».

Greekἦλθον δὲ καὶ τελῶναι βαπτισθῆναι καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτόν· Διδάσκαλε, τί ⸀ποιήσωμεν;
Orthodox ReadingThere came also some mokhesin (the tax-collectors-publicans), held to be in a state of ritual impurity (tum'at ha-goyim) because of contact with the pagans mokhesinⓘ to receive the tevilah, and they said to him: «Teacher, what shall we do?».
