Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἶναι αὐτὸν προσευχόμενον κατὰ μόνας συνῆσαν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί, καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς λέγων· Τίνα με ⸂οἱ ὄχλοι λέγουσιν⸃ εἶναι;
Un giorno Gesù si trovava in un luogo solitario a pregare. I discepoli erano con lui ed egli pose loro questa domanda: «Le folle, chi dicono che io sia?».
And it came to pass that, while he was apart prayingⓘ, his disciplesⓘ were with him; and he questioned them, saying: «The crowdsⓘ, who do they say that I am?».

οἱ δὲ ἀποκριθέντες εἶπαν· Ἰωάννην τὸν βαπτιστήν, ἄλλοι δὲ Ἠλίαν, ἄλλοι δὲ ὅτι προφήτης τις τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀνέστη.
Essi risposero: «Giovanni il Battista; altri dicono Elia; altri uno degli antichi profeti che è risorto».
They answered, saying: «John the Baptist; others, Elijah; others, one of the ancient prophets risenⓘ».

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς· Ὑμεῖς δὲ τίνα με λέγετε εἶναι; ⸂Πέτρος δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς⸃ εἶπεν· Τὸν χριστὸν τοῦ θεοῦ.
Allora domandò loro: «Ma voi, chi dite che io sia?». Pietro rispose: «Il Cristo di Dio».
He said to them: «But you, who do you say that I am?». Peter, answering, said: «The Mashiach (the Anointed One) of God Mashiachⓘ».

Ὁ δὲ ἐπιτιμήσας αὐτοῖς παρήγγειλεν μηδενὶ ⸀λέγειν τοῦτο,
Egli ordinò loro severamente di non riferirlo ad alcuno.
He, rebuking them, ordered them to tell this to no one,
22
εἰπὼν ὅτι Δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πολλὰ παθεῖν καὶ ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ ἀρχιερέων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ἀποκτανθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ⸀ἐγερθῆναι.
«Il Figlio dell'uomo, disse, deve soffrire molto, essere rifiutato dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, venire ucciso e risorgere il terzo giorno».
saying: «The Son of Manⓘ must suffer muchⓘ, be rejected by the Sanhedrin (Sanhedrin)ⓘ — by the elders (zeqenim)ⓘ, by the kohanim of the leadership (archiereîs)ⓘ and by the scribes (soferim), the learned experts of the Torah scribes (soferim)ⓘ, be killed and on the third day riseⓘ».

Ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς πάντας· Εἴ τις θέλει ὀπίσω μου ⸂ἔρχεσθαι, ἀρνησάσθω⸃ ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἀράτω τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ ⸂καθ’ ἡμέραν⸃, καὶ ἀκολουθείτω μοι.
Poi, a tutti, diceva: «Se qualcuno vuole venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda la sua croce ogni giorno e mi segua.
And he said to all: «If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross every dayⓘ and follow me.

ὃς γὰρ ⸀ἂν θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ σῶσαι, ἀπολέσει αὐτήν· ὃς δ’ ἂν ἀπολέσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ, οὗτος σώσει αὐτήν.
Chi vuole salvare la propria vita, la perderà, ma chi perderà la propria vita per causa mia, la salverà.
For whoever wishes to save his own lifeⓘ will lose it; but whoever loses his own life for my sake will save it.

τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖται ἄνθρωπος κερδήσας τὸν κόσμον ὅλον ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἀπολέσας ἢ ζημιωθείς;
Infatti, quale vantaggio ha un uomo che guadagna il mondo intero, ma perde o rovina se stesso?
What advantage has a man who gains the whole worldⓘ, but loses or ruins himself?

ὃς γὰρ ἂν ἐπαισχυνθῇ με καὶ τοὺς ἐμοὺς λόγους, τοῦτον ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπαισχυνθήσεται, ὅταν ἔλθῃ ἐν τῇ δόξῃ αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ τῶν ἁγίων ἀγγέλων.
Chi si vergognerà di me e delle mie parole, di lui si vergognerà il Figlio dell'uomo quando verrà nella gloria sua e del Padre e degli angeli santi.
Whoever is ashamed of meⓘ and of my words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when he comes in the glory of himself and of the Father and of the holy angelsⓘ.

λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ἀληθῶς, εἰσίν τινες τῶν ⸀αὐτοῦ ⸀ἑστηκότων οἳ οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ.
In verità io vi dico: vi sono alcuni, qui presenti, che non moriranno prima di aver visto il regno di Dio».
Truly I say to you: there are some, among those who stand here, who will not taste deathⓘ before they have seen the Malkhut of God (the kingdom) Malkhutⓘ».
