Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι Πάντες ⸀σκανδαλισθήσεσθε, ὅτι γέγραπται· Πατάξω τὸν ποιμένα, καὶ ⸂τὰ πρόβατα διασκορπισθήσονται⸃.
Gesù disse loro: «Tutti rimarrete scandalizzati, perché sta scritto: Percuoterò il pastore e le pecore saranno disperse.
And Jesus said to them: «You will all fall awayⓘ, for it is written: I will strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scatteredⓘ.

ἀλλὰ μετὰ τὸ ἐγερθῆναί με προάξω ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν.
Ma, dopo che sarò risorto, vi precederò in Galilea».
But, after I am raised upⓘ, I will go before youⓘ into Galileeⓘ».

ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἔφη αὐτῷ· ⸂Εἰ καὶ⸃ πάντες σκανδαλισθήσονται, ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἐγώ.
Pietro gli disse: «Anche se tutti si scandalizzeranno, io no!».
Peter said to him: «Even if all fall away, I will not!».

καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἀμὴν λέγω σοι ὅτι σὺ σήμερον ⸂ταύτῃ τῇ νυκτὶ⸃ πρὶν ἢ δὶς ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι τρίς ⸂με ἀπαρνήσῃ⸃.
Gesù gli disse: «In verità io ti dico: proprio tu, oggi, questa notte, prima che il gallo canti due volte, mi rinnegherai tre volte».
And Jesus said to him: «Amenⓘ I say to you: this very day, you yourself, on this night of Pesach (the night of the Passover seder), before the cock crows twiceⓘ, you will deny me three times».

ὁ δὲ ⸂ἐκπερισσῶς ἐλάλει⸃· Ἐὰν ⸂δέῃ με⸃ συναποθανεῖν σοι, οὐ μή σε ⸀ἀπαρνήσομαι. ὡσαύτως δὲ καὶ πάντες ἔλεγον.
Ma egli, con grande insistenza, diceva: «Se anche dovessi morire con te, non ti rinnegherò». Lo stesso dicevano tutti.
But he, with great insistence, kept saying: «Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you». And they all said the same.

Καὶ ἔρχονται εἰς χωρίον οὗ τὸ ὄνομα Γεθσημανί, καὶ λέγει τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ· Καθίσατε ὧδε ἕως προσεύξωμαι.
Giunsero a un podere chiamato Getsèmani ed egli disse ai suoi discepoli: «Sedetevi qui, mentre io prego».
They came to a plot of ground whose name is Gethsemane, the Gat Shemanimⓘ, and he said to his disciples (talmidim, the pupils of the master): «Sit here, while I pray».

καὶ παραλαμβάνει τὸν Πέτρον καὶ ⸂Ἰάκωβον καὶ⸃ Ἰωάννην μετ’ ⸀αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἤρξατο ἐκθαμβεῖσθαι καὶ ἀδημονεῖν,
Prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni e cominciò a sentire paura e angoscia.
And he took with him Peter, James and John and began to be distressed and troubledⓘ.
34
καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Περίλυπός ἐστιν ἡ ψυχή μου ἕως θανάτου· μείνατε ὧδε καὶ γρηγορεῖτε.
Disse loro: «La mia anima è triste fino alla morte. Restate qui e vegliate».
And he said to them: «My soul (nefesh, נֶפֶשׁ: the whole person, not a soul detached from the body) is sorrowful unto deathⓘ. Stay here and keep watchⓘ».

καὶ ⸂προελθὼν μικρὸν ἔπιπτεν⸃ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ προσηύχετο ἵνα εἰ δυνατόν ἐστιν παρέλθῃ ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ ἡ ὥρα,
Poi, andato un po' innanzi, cadde a terra e pregava che, se fosse possibile, passasse via da lui quell'ora.
And, having gone forward a little, he was falling to the groundⓘ in prostration upon his face (nefilat appayim, the supplicatory posture of intense prayer) and prayed that, if it were possible, that hourⓘ might pass away from him.

καὶ ἔλεγεν· Αββα ὁ πατήρ, πάντα δυνατά σοι· παρένεγκε τὸ ποτήριον ⸂τοῦτο ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ⸃· ἀλλ’ οὐ τί ἐγὼ θέλω ἀλλὰ τί σύ.
E diceva: «Abbà, Padre! Tutto è possibile a te: allontana da me questo calice! Però non ciò che voglio io, ma ciò che vuoi tu».
And he said: «Abba (Abbâ, אַבָּא: «father», the Aramaic preserved — the intimate, filial invocation), Father! All things are possible to you: take away from me this cupⓘ, this kos ha-za'am (the cup of prophetic wrath)! Yet not what I will, but what you will».

καὶ ἔρχεται καὶ εὑρίσκει αὐτοὺς καθεύδοντας, καὶ λέγει τῷ Πέτρῳ· Σίμων, καθεύδεις; οὐκ ἴσχυσας μίαν ὥραν γρηγορῆσαι;
Poi venne, li trovò addormentati e disse a Pietro: «Simone, dormi? Non sei riuscito a vegliare una sola ora?
And he came, found them sleeping and said to Peter: «Simonⓘ, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for a single hour?

γρηγορεῖτε καὶ προσεύχεσθε, ἵνα μὴ ⸀ἔλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν· τὸ μὲν πνεῦμα πρόθυμον ἡ δὲ σὰρξ ἀσθενής.
Vegliate e pregate per non entrare in tentazione. Lo spirito è pronto, ma la carne è debole».
Keep watch and pray that you may not enter into temptationⓘ. The spirit (ruach, רוּחַ) is willing, but the flesh (basar, בָּשָׂר) is weak: the tension within the whole human being, not a Platonic soul/body dualism».

καὶ πάλιν ἀπελθὼν προσηύξατο τὸν αὐτὸν λόγον εἰπών.
Si allontanò di nuovo e pregò dicendo le stesse parole.
And again, having withdrawn, he prayed saying the same words.
40
καὶ ⸂πάλιν ἐλθὼν εὗρεν αὐτοὺς⸃ καθεύδοντας, ἦσαν γὰρ ⸂αὐτῶν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ⸃ ⸀καταβαρυνόμενοι, καὶ οὐκ ᾔδεισαν τί ⸂ἀποκριθῶσιν αὐτῷ⸃.
Poi venne di nuovo e li trovò addormentati, perché i loro occhi si erano appesantiti, e non sapevano che cosa rispondergli.
And he came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes had grown heavy, and they did not know what to answer him.

καὶ ἔρχεται τὸ τρίτον καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Καθεύδετε ⸀τὸ λοιπὸν καὶ ἀναπαύεσθε· ἀπέχει· ἦλθεν ἡ ὥρα, ἰδοὺ παραδίδοται ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰς τὰς χεῖρας τῶν ἁμαρτωλῶν.
Venne per la terza volta e disse loro: «Dormite pure e riposatevi! Basta! È venuta l'ora: ecco, il Figlio dell'uomo viene consegnato nelle mani dei peccatori.
And he came the third time and said to them: «Sleep on now and take your rest! Enough!ⓘ The hour has come: behold, the Son of Man (Bar Enash, בַּר אֱנָשׁ, Dan 7:13 — the Mashiach, the awaited Anointed One) is delivered into the hands of sinnersⓘ.

ἐγείρεσθε ἄγωμεν· ἰδοὺ ὁ παραδιδούς με ἤγγικεν.
Alzatevi, andiamo! Ecco, colui che mi tradisce è vicino».
Rise, let us go! Behold, the one who betrays me is near».

Καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος παραγίνεται ⸀Ἰούδας ⸀εἷς τῶν δώδεκα καὶ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ⸀ὄχλος μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων παρὰ τῶν ἀρχιερέων καὶ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων.
E subito, mentre ancora egli parlava, arrivò Giuda, uno dei Dodici, e con lui una folla con spade e bastoni, mandata dai capi dei sacerdoti, dagli scribi e dagli anziani.
And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas arrived, one of the Twelve (the shelichim, the envoys of the master), and with him a crowd armed with ḥerev (swords) and clubs — not the am ha-aretz (the unobservant common folk), but a detachment sent by the kohanim of the temple leadership (the archiereis, the chief priests), by the soferim (the scribes) and by the zeqenim (the elders): sent by the authorities of the Temple, not «the Jews» as a whole.

δεδώκει δὲ ὁ παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν σύσσημον αὐτοῖς λέγων· Ὃν ἂν φιλήσω αὐτός ἐστιν· κρατήσατε αὐτὸν καὶ ⸀ἀπάγετε ἀσφαλῶς.
Il traditore aveva dato loro un segno convenuto, dicendo: «Quello che bacerò, è lui; arrestatelo e conducetelo via sotto buona scorta».
The betrayer had given them an agreed signⓘ, saying: «The one I shall kiss is he; arrest him and lead him away under close guard».

καὶ ἐλθὼν ⸀εὐθὺς προσελθὼν αὐτῷ λέγει· ⸀Ῥαββί, καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτόν.
Appena giunto, gli si avvicinò e disse: «Rabbì!», e lo baciò.
And as soon as he arrived, he approached him and said: «Rabbi (rav, רַבִּי, «my master» — the title of the master, on the lips of the betrayer)!», and he kissed him ferventlyⓘ.

οἱ δὲ ἐπέβαλαν ⸂τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῷ⸃ καὶ ἐκράτησαν αὐτόν.
Quelli gli misero le mani addosso e lo arrestarono.
They laid hands on him and arrested him.
47
εἷς δέ ⸀τις τῶν παρεστηκότων σπασάμενος τὴν μάχαιραν ἔπαισεν τὸν δοῦλον τοῦ ἀρχιερέως καὶ ἀφεῖλεν αὐτοῦ τὸ ⸀ὠτάριον.
Uno dei presenti estrasse la spada, colpì il servo del sommo sacerdote e gli staccò un orecchio.
But one of those present, having drawn his ḥerev (the sword), struck the servant of the kohanim of the leadership (the archiereis, the high priest) and cut off his ear.

καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθατε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων συλλαβεῖν με;
Allora Gesù disse loro: «Come se fossi un brigante siete venuti a prendermi con spade e bastoni.
And Jesus, in response, said to them: «As against a biryon (an armed rebel, a zealot insurgent, not a «thief» nor a common «brigand») have you come out to seize me with swords (ḥerev) and clubs?

καθ’ ἡμέραν ἤμην πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων καὶ οὐκ ἐκρατήσατέ με· ἀλλ’ ἵνα πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαί.
Ogni giorno ero in mezzo a voi nel tempio a insegnare, e non mi avete arrestato. Si compiano dunque le Scritture!».
Every day I was among you in the Temple (bet ha-miqdash, the sanctuary of Jerusalem) teaching, before the very eyes of the same soferim (the scribes) and zeqenim (the elders), in the midst of the pilgrims gone up for the feast of Pesach and of the unleavened bread, where the kohanim (the priests) officiated the korban Pesach (the Passover sacrifice), and you did not arrest me. But it is so that the Scriptures may be fulfilledⓘ!».

καὶ ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ⸂ἔφυγον πάντες⸃.
Tutti lo abbandonarono e fuggirono.
And, having abandoned him, they all fledⓘ.

Καὶ ⸂νεανίσκος τις⸃ ⸀συνηκολούθει αὐτῷ περιβεβλημένος σινδόνα ἐπὶ γυμνοῦ, καὶ κρατοῦσιν ⸀αὐτόν,
Lo seguiva però un ragazzo, avvolto soltanto in un lenzuolo, e lo afferrarono.
And a young manⓘ was following him, wrapped in a linen clothⓘ over his naked body, and they seize him;

ὁ δὲ καταλιπὼν τὴν σινδόνα γυμνὸς ⸀ἔφυγεν.
Ma egli, lasciato cadere il lenzuolo, fuggì via nudo.
but he, having let the linen cloth fall, fled away naked.
