Καὶ ἀπήγαγον τὸν Ἰησοῦν πρὸς τὸν ἀρχιερέα, καὶ ⸀συνέρχονται πάντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς.
Condussero Gesù dal sommo sacerdote, e là si riunirono tutti i capi dei sacerdoti, gli anziani e gli scribi.
And they led Jesus away to the high priest (kohen gadol)ⓘ, and there gathered together all the chief priests (the kohanim of the Temple's upper echelon archiereîsⓘ), the elders (the zeqenimⓘ) and the scribes (the soferimⓘ).

καὶ ὁ Πέτρος ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἠκολούθησεν αὐτῷ ἕως ἔσω εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως καὶ ἦν συγκαθήμενος μετὰ τῶν ὑπηρετῶν καὶ θερμαινόμενος πρὸς τὸ φῶς.
Pietro lo aveva seguito da lontano, fin dentro il cortile del sommo sacerdote; se ne stava seduto con le guardie e si scaldava al fuoco.
And Peter had followed him from afarⓘ right into the courtyard of the high priest, and was sitting with the attendantsⓘ, warming himself at the fire (phôs, lit. «light»: dramatic irony — Peter in the light while he denies the One who is the light).

οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ ὅλον τὸ συνέδριον ἐζήτουν κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ μαρτυρίαν εἰς τὸ θανατῶσαι αὐτόν, καὶ οὐχ ηὕρισκον·
I capi dei sacerdoti e tutto il sinedrio cercavano una testimonianza contro Gesù per metterlo a morte, ma non la trovavano.
Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrinⓘ were seekingⓘ a testimonyⓘ against Jesus to put him to death, and they did not find it.

πολλοὶ γὰρ ἐψευδομαρτύρουν κατ’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἴσαι αἱ μαρτυρίαι οὐκ ἦσαν.
Molti infatti testimoniavano il falso contro di lui e le loro testimonianze non erano concordi.
For many bore false witnessⓘ against him, and their testimonies did not agreeⓘ.

καί τινες ἀναστάντες ἐψευδομαρτύρουν κατ’ αὐτοῦ λέγοντες
Alcuni si alzarono a testimoniare il falso, dicendo:
And some, standing up, bore false witness against him, saying 58: «We heard him sayⓘ: I will destroy this temple made with handsⓘ, and in three days I will build another not made with handsⓘ».

ὅτι Ἡμεῖς ἠκούσαμεν αὐτοῦ λέγοντος ὅτι Ἐγὼ καταλύσω τὸν ναὸν τοῦτον τὸν χειροποίητον καὶ διὰ τριῶν ἡμερῶν ἄλλον ἀχειροποίητον οἰκοδομήσω·
«Lo abbiamo udito mentre diceva: Io distruggerò questo tempio, fatto da mani d'uomo, e in tre giorni ne costruirò un altro, non fatto da mani d'uomo».

καὶ οὐδὲ οὕτως ἴση ἦν ἡ μαρτυρία αὐτῶν.
Ma nemmeno così la loro testimonianza era concorde.
And not even thus was their testimony in agreement.
60
καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἰς μέσον ἐπηρώτησεν τὸν Ἰησοῦν λέγων· Οὐκ ἀποκρίνῃ οὐδέν; τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;
Il sommo sacerdote, alzatosi in mezzo all'assemblea, interrogò Gesù dicendo: «Non rispondi nulla? Che cosa testimoniano costoro contro di te?».
And the high priest, standing up in the midst, questioned Jesus, saying: «Do you answer nothing? What is it that these testify against you?».

ὁ δὲ ἐσιώπα καὶ ⸂οὐκ ἀπεκρίνατο οὐδέν⸃. πάλιν ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς ἐπηρώτα αὐτὸν καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Σὺ εἶ ὁ χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ εὐλογητοῦ;
Ma egli taceva e non rispondeva nulla. Di nuovo il sommo sacerdote lo interrogò dicendogli: «Sei tu il Cristo, il Figlio del Benedetto?».
But he kept silentⓘ and answered nothing. Againⓘ the high priest questioned him and says to him: «Are you the Messiahⓘ, the Son of the Blessed Oneⓘ?».

ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Ἐγώ εἰμι, καὶ ὄψεσθε τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ δεξιῶν καθήμενον τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ ἐρχόμενον μετὰ τῶν νεφελῶν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ.
Gesù rispose: «Io lo sono! E vedrete il Figlio dell'uomo seduto alla destra della Potenza e venire con le nubi del cielo».
And Jesus said: «I amⓘ, and you will see the Son of Manⓘ seated at the right hand of the Powerⓘ and coming with the cloudsⓘ of heaven».

ὁ δὲ ἀρχιερεὺς διαρρήξας τοὺς χιτῶνας αὐτοῦ λέγει· Τί ἔτι χρείαν ἔχομεν μαρτύρων;
Allora il sommo sacerdote, stracciandosi le vesti, disse: «Che bisogno abbiamo ancora di testimoni?
The high priest, tearing his garmentsⓘ, says: «What further need do we have of witnesses?

ἠκούσατε τῆς βλασφημίας· τί ὑμῖν φαίνεται; οἱ δὲ πάντες κατέκριναν αὐτὸν ⸂ἔνοχον εἶναι⸃ θανάτου.
Avete udito la bestemmia; che ve ne pare?». Tutti sentenziarono che era reo di morte.
You have heard the blasphemyⓘ. What is your opinion?». And they all condemned himⓘ as deserving of deathⓘ.

καὶ ἤρξαντό τινες ἐμπτύειν αὐτῷ καὶ περικαλύπτειν ⸂αὐτοῦ τὸ πρόσωπον⸃ καὶ κολαφίζειν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγειν αὐτῷ· Προφήτευσον, καὶ οἱ ὑπηρέται ῥαπίσμασιν αὐτὸν ⸀ἔλαβον.
Alcuni si misero a sputargli addosso, a coprirgli il volto, a percuoterlo e a dirgli: «Fa' il profeta!». E le guardie lo presero a schiaffi.
And some began to spit on himⓘ and to cover his faceⓘ and to strike him and to say to him: «Prophesyⓘ!». And the guards (the hypērétaiⓘ) took him with blows.
