14
Coming to the disciples, they saw around them a great crowd of am ha-aretz (the common people not bound to the rigor of the haverim) looking onⓘ and the scribes (soferim) who were disputing with them in a public halakhic controversy, a machloketⓘ.
17
And one of the crowd answered him: «Teacher (rav), I have broughtⓘ to you my son, who has a mute spiritⓘ.
18
And wherever it seizes him, it throws him downⓘ, and he foams, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid — epilepsy (nikhpe), a category of the chronically ill (choleh)ⓘ. And I told your disciples to cast it out, but they had not the strengthⓘ».
19
«O generazione incredula! Fino a quando sarò con voi?».
And he, answering, says to them: «O unbelieving generationⓘ, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with youⓘ? Bring him to me».
22
and often it has thrown him into fire and into watersⓘ to destroy himⓘ. But if you can do anything, have visceral compassion (rachamim)ⓘ on us and help us».
23
Gesù: «Se tu puoi! Tutto è possibile per chi crede».
And Jesus said to him: «That «if you can»ⓘ! All things are possible to the one who believes in faith-faithfulness (emunah)ⓘ».
24
Immediatelyⓘ the father of the child, crying out, said: «I believe; help my unbeliefⓘ!».
25
scacciò lo spirito impuro.
Seeing that a crowd was running together, Jesus rebukedⓘ the spirit of impurity (ruach ha-tumah), the power that induces tum'ah on the halakhic planeⓘ, saying to it: «Mute and deaf spirit — the deaf-mute (cheresh)ⓘ, I command youⓘ, come out of him and enter him no more».
28
καὶ ⸂εἰσελθόντος αὐτοῦ⸃ εἰς οἶκον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ⸂κατ’ ἰδίαν ἐπηρώτων αὐτόν⸃· Ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν ἐκβαλεῖν αὐτό;
«Perché noi non siamo riusciti a scacciarlo?».
And when he had entered the house, the disciplesⓘ in privateⓘ questioned him: «Why could we not cast it out?».
29
And he said to them: «This kindⓘ cannot come out by any means except by prayer (tefillah)ⓘ».
