GreekἈπὸ τότε ἤρξατο ⸂ὁ Ἰησοῦς⸃ δεικνύειν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ ὅτι δεῖ αὐτὸν ⸂εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα ἀπελθεῖν⸃ καὶ πολλὰ παθεῖν ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ ἀρχιερέων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ἀποκτανθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἐγερθῆναι.
Orthodox ReadingFrom that time Jesus began to show his disciples disciplesⓘ that he mustⓘ go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly at the hands of the zeqenim (the elders, the lay notables of the Sanhedrin) zeqenimⓘ, of the archiereis-kohanim (the chief priests, the Sadducean aristocracy, the Saddoukaioi at the summit of the Temple) archiereisⓘ, and of the soferim (the scribes, the experts of the Torah) soferimⓘ, and be killed and rise on the third dayⓘ.

Greekκαὶ προσλαβόμενος αὐτὸν ὁ Πέτρος ἤρξατο ἐπιτιμᾶν αὐτῷ λέγων· Ἵλεώς σοι, κύριε· οὐ μὴ ἔσται σοι τοῦτο.
Orthodox ReadingPeter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying: «God forbid, Lord; this shall never happen to you».

Greekὁ δὲ στραφεὶς εἶπεν τῷ Πέτρῳ· Ὕπαγε ὀπίσω μου, Σατανᾶ· σκάνδαλον ⸂εἶ ἐμοῦ⸃, ὅτι οὐ φρονεῖς τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ἀλλὰ τὰ τῶν ἀνθρώπων.

GreekΤότε ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ· Εἴ τις θέλει ὀπίσω μου ἐλθεῖν, ἀπαρνησάσθω ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἀράτω τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀκολουθείτω μοι.

Greekὃς γὰρ ⸀ἐὰν θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ σῶσαι ἀπολέσει αὐτήν· ὃς δ’ ἂν ἀπολέσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ εὑρήσει αὐτήν.
Orthodox ReadingFor whoever wants to save his own lifeⓘ will lose it; but whoever loses his nephesh for my sake will find it.

Greekτί γὰρ ⸀ὠφεληθήσεται ἄνθρωπος ἐὰν τὸν κόσμον ὅλον κερδήσῃ τὴν δὲ ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ζημιωθῇ; ἢ τί δώσει ἄνθρωπος ἀντάλλαγμα τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ;
Orthodox ReadingFor what advantage will a man have if he gains the whole world, but loses his own lifeⓘ? Or what can a man give in exchange for his own life?

Greekμέλλει γὰρ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἔρχεσθαι ἐν τῇ δόξῃ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν ἀγγέλων αὐτοῦ, καὶ τότε ἀποδώσει ἑκάστῳ κατὰ τὴν πρᾶξιν αὐτοῦ.
Orthodox ReadingFor the Son of Man, bar enashⓘ, is about to come in the gloryⓘ of his Father, with his angelsⓘ, and then he will repay each one according to his deedsⓘ.

Greekἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ⸀ὅτι εἰσίν τινες ⸂τῶν ὧδε ἑστώτων⸃ οἵτινες οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐρχόμενον ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ.
Orthodox ReadingAmen, I say to youⓘ: there are some, among those present, who will not dieⓘ before they have seen the Son of Man coming in his kingdom, the Malkhut Shamayimⓘ».
