Τότε Ἡρῴδης ἰδὼν ὅτι ἐνεπαίχθη ὑπὸ τῶν μάγων ἐθυμώθη λίαν, καὶ ἀποστείλας ἀνεῖλεν πάντας τοὺς παῖδας τοὺς ἐν Βηθλέεμ καὶ ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ὁρίοις αὐτῆς ἀπὸ διετοῦς καὶ κατωτέρω, κατὰ τὸν χρόνον ὃν ἠκρίβωσεν παρὰ τῶν μάγων.
Allora Erode, vedendo di essere stato beffato dai Magi, si adirò grandemente, e mandò a uccidere tutti i bambini che erano in Betlemme e in tutto il suo territorio, dai due anni in giù, secondo il tempo che si era fatto precisare dai Magi.
Then Herodⓘ, seeing that he had been mocked by the Magiⓘ, was greatly enragedⓘ, and sent to killⓘ all the childrenⓘ who were in Bethlehemⓘ and in all its territoryⓘ, from two years old and underⓘ, according to the time he had ascertained from the Magiⓘ.

τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν ⸀διὰ Ἰερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος·
Allora si adempì ciò che era stato detto per mezzo del profeta Geremia:

Φωνὴ ἐν Ῥαμὰ ⸀ἠκούσθη, κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὀδυρμὸς πολύς· Ῥαχὴλ κλαίουσα τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν παρακληθῆναι ὅτι οὐκ εἰσίν.
«Una voce si è udita in Rama, pianto e lamento grande: Rachele che piange i suoi figli, e non vuole essere consolata, perché non sono più».
«A voice was heardⓘ in Ramahⓘ, great weeping and lamentationⓘ: Rachel weeping for her childrenⓘ, and she would not be consoledⓘ, because they are no moreⓘ».
