Ὑμεῖς ἐστε τὸ ἅλας τῆς γῆς· ἐὰν δὲ τὸ ἅλας μωρανθῇ, ἐν τίνι ἁλισθήσεται; εἰς οὐδὲν ἰσχύει ἔτι εἰ μὴ ⸂βληθὲν ἔξω⸃ καταπατεῖσθαι ὑπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων.
Voi siete il sale della terra; ma se il sale diventa insipido, con che cosa lo si salerà? Non vale più a nulla se non a essere gettato fuori e calpestato dagli uomini.
You are the salt of the covenant (the berit melachⓘ) of the earthⓘ; but if the saltⓘ becomes insipidⓘ, with what shall it be made saltyⓘ? It is no longer good for anything except to be cast outⓘ and trampled underfoot by menⓘ.

Ὑμεῖς ἐστε τὸ φῶς τοῦ κόσμου. οὐ δύναται πόλις κρυβῆναι ἐπάνω ὄρους κειμένη·
Voi siete la luce del mondo; non può nascondersi una città posta sopra un monte,
You are the light of the world (the or la-goyimⓘ): it cannot be hiddenⓘ, a city set upon a mountainⓘ,

οὐδὲ καίουσιν λύχνον καὶ τιθέασιν αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον ἀλλ’ ἐπὶ τὴν λυχνίαν, καὶ λάμπει πᾶσιν τοῖς ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ.
né si accende una lampada per metterla sotto il moggio, ma sul candelabro, e fa luce a tutti quelli che sono nella casa.
nor does one light a lampⓘ to set it under the bushelⓘ, but on the lampstandⓘ, and it gives light to all who are in the houseⓘ.

οὕτως λαμψάτω τὸ φῶς ὑμῶν ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ὅπως ἴδωσιν ὑμῶν τὰ καλὰ ἔργα καὶ δοξάσωσιν τὸν πατέρα ὑμῶν τὸν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.
Così risplenda la vostra luce davanti agli uomini, perché vedano le vostre opere buone e glorifichino il Padre vostro che è nei cieli.
Thus let your light shineⓘ before menⓘ, that they may see your good works (the ma'asim tovimⓘ) and glorifyⓘ your Father who is in the Heavens (Avinu shebashamayimⓘ).
