Orthodox ReadingDo not store up for yourselves treasuresⓘ on earth, where moth and rustⓘ consume and where thieves break in and steal;
201
Orthodox Readingstore up instead for yourselves an otzar in the Heavens, the treasure with Godⓘ, where neither moth nor rust consume and where thieves do not break in nor steal.
21
Orthodox ReadingFor where your treasure is, there will your heartⓘ be also.
2211
Orthodox ReadingThe lampⓘ of the body is the eyeⓘ; if therefore your eye is ayin tovah, the «good eye»ⓘ — the generous eye —, your whole body will be in the light;
2311
Orthodox Readingbut if your eye is ayin ra'ah, the «evil eye»ⓘ — the mean and miserly eye —, your whole body will be in darknessⓘ. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be!
24
Orthodox ReadingNo one can serve two mastersⓘ: for either he will hate the one and love the otherⓘ, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve Godⓘ and Mammon, wealth made into an idolⓘ.
25
GreekΔιὰ τοῦτο λέγω ὑμῖν· μὴ μεριμνᾶτε τῇ ψυχῇ ὑμῶν τί ⸀φάγητε, μηδὲ τῷ σώματι ὑμῶν τί ἐνδύσησθε· οὐχὶ ἡ ψυχὴ πλεῖόν ἐστι τῆς τροφῆς καὶ τὸ σῶμα τοῦ ἐνδύματος;
Orthodox ReadingFor this reason I say to you: do not be anxiousⓘ for your lifeⓘ, what you will eat, nor for your body, what you will wear. Is not life worth more than food and the body more than clothing?
26
Greekἐμβλέψατε εἰς τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ὅτι οὐ σπείρουσιν οὐδὲ θερίζουσιν οὐδὲ συνάγουσιν εἰς ἀποθήκας, καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν ὁ οὐράνιος τρέφει αὐτά· οὐχ ὑμεῖς μᾶλλον διαφέρετε αὐτῶν;
Orthodox ReadingLook at the birds of the skyⓘ: they neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and your heavenly Fatherⓘ feeds them. Are you not worth more than they?
27
Greekτίς δὲ ἐξ ὑμῶν μεριμνῶν δύναται προσθεῖναι ἐπὶ τὴν ἡλικίαν αὐτοῦ πῆχυν ἕνα;
Orthodox ReadingAnd which of you, however much he is anxious, can add a single cubitⓘ to the span of his life?
28
Orthodox ReadingAnd why are you anxious about clothing? Observeⓘ the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
29
Orthodox Readingyet I say to you that not even Solomonⓘ, with all his gloryⓘ, was clothed like one of them.
30
Greekεἰ δὲ τὸν χόρτον τοῦ ἀγροῦ σήμερον ὄντα καὶ αὔριον εἰς κλίβανον βαλλόμενον ὁ θεὸς οὕτως ἀμφιέννυσιν, οὐ πολλῷ μᾶλλον ὑμᾶς, ὀλιγόπιστοι;
Orthodox ReadingIf therefore God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is here and tomorrow is thrown into the ovenⓘ, will he not do much more for you, people of little faithⓘ?
31
Greekμὴ οὖν μεριμνήσητε λέγοντες· Τί φάγωμεν; ἤ· Τί πίωμεν; ἤ· Τί περιβαλώμεθα;
Orthodox ReadingDo not be anxious therefore, saying: «What shall we eat? What shall we drink? With what shall we be clothed?».
32
Orthodox ReadingAfter all these things the nationsⓘ seek; your heavenly Father knows well that you need them.
331
Orthodox ReadingSeek instead first the Kingdomⓘ and his righteousnessⓘ, and all these things will be added to youⓘ.
341
Orthodox ReadingDo not be anxious therefore about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious about itself. To each day its own troubleⓘ is enough.
