Τότε προσέρχονται αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου λέγοντες· Διὰ τί ἡμεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι νηστεύομεν ⸀πολλά, οἱ δὲ μαθηταί σου οὐ νηστεύουσιν;
Allora gli si avvicinarono i discepoli di Giovanni e gli dissero: «Perché noi e i farisei digiuniamo molte volte, mentre i tuoi discepoli non digiunano?».
The disciples of Johnⓘ approached: «Why do we and the Pharisees (perushim), the observant onesⓘ frequently practice voluntary fasts (taʿanit), supererogatory abstinences beyond the single fast commanded by the Torah, that of Yom Kippurⓘ, while your disciplesⓘ do not?».

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Μὴ δύνανται οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ νυμφῶνος πενθεῖν ἐφ’ ὅσον μετ’ αὐτῶν ἐστιν ὁ νυμφίος; ἐλεύσονται δὲ ἡμέραι ὅταν ἀπαρθῇ ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ὁ νυμφίος, καὶ τότε νηστεύσουσιν.
E Gesù disse loro: «Possono forse gli invitati a nozze essere in lutto finché lo sposo è con loro? Ma verranno giorni quando lo sposo sarà loro tolto, e allora digiuneranno.
Jesus said: «Can the shoshvinin, the companions of the bridal chamber (bnei ha-chuppah)ⓘ be in mourningⓘ as long as the bridegroomⓘ is with them? Days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from themⓘ, and then they will fastⓘ.

οὐδεὶς δὲ ἐπιβάλλει ἐπίβλημα ῥάκους ἀγνάφου ἐπὶ ἱματίῳ παλαιῷ· αἴρει γὰρ τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἱματίου, καὶ χεῖρον σχίσμα γίνεται.
Nessuno mette un pezzo di stoffa grezza su un vestito vecchio, perché il rattoppo strappa via dal vestito e lo squarcio diventa peggiore.
No one puts a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garmentⓘ, because the patchⓘ tears away and the tear grows worseⓘ.

οὐδὲ βάλλουσιν οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς παλαιούς· εἰ δὲ μή γε, ῥήγνυνται οἱ ἀσκοί, καὶ ὁ οἶνος ἐκχεῖται καὶ οἱ ἀσκοὶ ⸀ἀπόλλυνται· ἀλλὰ βάλλουσιν οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς καινούς, καὶ ἀμφότεροι συντηροῦνται.
Né si versa vino nuovo in otri vecchi, altrimenti si spaccano gli otri e il vino si spande e gli otri vanno perduti. Ma si versa vino nuovo in otri nuovi, e così l'uno e gli altri si conservano».
Nor is new wine poured into old wineskinsⓘ, otherwise the wineskins burstⓘ and the wine is spilled; but new wine into new wineskinsⓘ, and both are preservedⓘ».
