GreekἘγένετο δὲ ἐν ⸀σαββάτῳ διαπορεύεσθαι αὐτὸν ⸀διὰ σπορίμων, καὶ ἔτιλλον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ⸂καὶ ἤσθιον τοὺς στάχυας⸃ ψώχοντες ταῖς χερσίν.
Orthodox ReadingAnd it came to pass that on Shabbat (the sabbath) he was passing through fields of grainⓘ, and his disciples were plucking and eating the ears, rubbing them with their handsⓘ.

Greekτινὲς δὲ τῶν Φαρισαίων ⸀εἶπαν· Τί ποιεῖτε ὃ οὐκ ⸀ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν;
Orthodox ReadingBut some of the Pharisees (perushim), the observant ones, saidⓘ: «Why do you do what the Torahⓘ does not permit on the sabbath?».

Greekκαὶ ἀποκριθεὶς πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Οὐδὲ τοῦτο ἀνέγνωτε ὃ ἐποίησεν Δαυὶδ ⸀ὁπότε ἐπείνασεν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ⸀ὄντες;

Greek⸀ὡς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἄρτους τῆς προθέσεως ⸀λαβὼν ἔφαγεν καὶ ⸀ἔδωκεν τοῖς μετ’ αὐτοῦ, οὓς οὐκ ἔξεστιν φαγεῖν εἰ μὴ μόνους τοὺς ἱερεῖς;
Orthodox ReadingHow he entered into the house of God and, taking the bread of the presentationⓘ, ate it and gave it to those with him, although it is not lawful to eat it save for the priests (kohanim) alone?».

Greek⸀παρετηροῦντο ⸀δὲ οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι εἰ ἐν τῷ σαββάτῳ ⸀θεραπεύει, ἵνα εὕρωσιν ⸀κατηγορεῖν αὐτοῦ.
Orthodox ReadingAnd the scribes (soferim) and the Pharisees (perushim) were watchingⓘ him to see whether he would heal on Shabbat (the sabbath), so as to find something of which to accuse him.

Greekαὐτὸς δὲ ᾔδει τοὺς διαλογισμοὺς αὐτῶν, ⸂εἶπεν δὲ⸃ τῷ ⸀ἀνδρὶ τῷ ξηρὰν ἔχοντι τὴν χεῖρα· ⸀Ἔγειρε καὶ στῆθι εἰς τὸ μέσον· ⸀καὶ ἀναστὰς ἔστη.
Orthodox ReadingBut he knew their reasonings, and said to the man with the withered hand: «Rise and stand in the midst». And he rose.

Greekεἶπεν ⸀δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς αὐτούς· ⸀Ἐπερωτῶ ὑμᾶς, ⸀εἰ ἔξεστιν ⸂τῷ σαββάτῳ⸃ ἀγαθοποιῆσαι ἢ κακοποιῆσαι, ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἢ ⸀ἀπολέσαι;
Orthodox ReadingAnd Jesus said to them: «I ask you: is it lawful on the sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy itⓘ?».

Greekκαὶ περιβλεψάμενος πάντας αὐτοὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἔκτεινον τὴν χεῖρά σου· ὁ δὲ ἐποίησεν, καὶ ἀπεκατεστάθη ἡ χεὶρ ⸀αὐτοῦ.
Orthodox ReadingAnd, having looked round at them all, he said to him: «Stretch out your handⓘ». And he did so, and his hand was restoredⓘ.

Greekαὐτοὶ δὲ ἐπλήσθησαν ἀνοίας, καὶ διελάλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους τί ἂν ποιήσαιεν τῷ Ἰησοῦ.
Orthodox ReadingBut they were filled with senseless rageⓘ, and were discussingⓘ among themselves what to do to Jesus.
