GreekΚαὶ ἤρξατο αὐτοῖς ἐν παραβολαῖς ⸀λαλεῖν· Ἀμπελῶνα ⸂ἄνθρωπος ἐφύτευσεν⸃, καὶ περιέθηκεν φραγμὸν καὶ ὤρυξεν ὑπολήνιον καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν πύργον, καὶ ἐξέδετο αὐτὸν γεωργοῖς, καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν.
Orthodox ReadingHe began to speak to them in parablesⓘ: «A man planted a vineyardⓘ, set a hedgeⓘ around it, dug the winepressⓘ and built a towerⓘ, and leased it to tenant farmersⓘ, and went away on a journeyⓘ.

Greekκαὶ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς τοὺς γεωργοὺς τῷ καιρῷ δοῦλον, ἵνα παρὰ τῶν γεωργῶν λάβῃ ἀπὸ ⸂τῶν καρπῶν⸃ τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος·
Orthodox ReadingAt the opportune timeⓘ he sent a servantⓘ to the tenant farmers, to receive from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.

Greek⸀καὶ ἄλλον ἀπέστειλεν· κἀκεῖνον ἀπέκτειναν, καὶ πολλοὺς ἄλλους, ⸂οὓς μὲν δέροντες οὓς δὲ ἀποκτέννοντες⸃.
Orthodox ReadingHe sent another, and this one they killed; and many others, beating some, killing others — the Deuteronomistic pattern of the repeated rejection of the prophets (2 Chr 36:15-16; Neh 9:26).

Greekἔτι ⸂ἕνα εἶχεν, υἱὸν ἀγαπητόν· ἀπέστειλεν⸃ αὐτὸν ⸂ἔσχατον πρὸς αὐτοὺς⸃ λέγων ὅτι Ἐντραπήσονται τὸν υἱόν μου.

GreekΚαὶ ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν κρατῆσαι, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν τὸν ὄχλον, ἔγνωσαν γὰρ ὅτι πρὸς αὐτοὺς τὴν παραβολὴν εἶπεν. καὶ ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ἀπῆλθον.
Orthodox ReadingAnd they kept trying to arrest himⓘ, the chief priests (the kohanim of the temple summit)ⓘ, the scribes (soferim)ⓘ and the elders (zeqenim)ⓘ, but they feared the crowd — for they had understoodⓘ that he had told the parable against them. And leaving himⓘ, they went away.
