1
Orthodox ReadingBe careful not to practice your tzedakah righteousness-charityⓘ before men in order to be admired by them; otherwise you will have no reward with your Father who is in Heavenⓘ.
2
Orthodox ReadingSo when you perform a mitzvah commanded deedⓘ of tzedakah, almsgiving as gemilut chasadim act of chesedⓘ, do not sound the trumpet before you, as the pretendersⓘ do in the synagogue bet knessetⓘ and in the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I tell you: they have already received their reward.
3
Orthodox ReadingBut you, when you give tzedakah, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4
Orthodox Readingso that your almsgiving may remain in secretⓘ; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
51
Orthodox ReadingAnd when you recite the tefillah prayerⓘ, do not be like the pretenders who love to pray standing in the synagogue and at the corners of the squares — the posture of the Amidah standing uprightⓘ — to be seen by men. Truly I tell you: they have already received their reward.
6
Orthodox ReadingBut you, when you pray, enter your room, shut the door, and pray to your Father in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
7
Orthodox ReadingWhen praying, do not waste words like the goyimⓘ, who think they will be heard for their many words.
8
Orthodox ReadingDo not be like them, then, for your Father, in the emunah faithful trustⓘ to which he calls you, knows what things you need even before you ask him.
9
Orthodox ReadingYou, then, pray like this: Our Father who are in Heavenⓘ, hallowed be your Nameⓘ,
10
Orthodox Readingmay your Kingdomⓘ come, may your will be done, as in heaven so on earth.
11
Orthodox ReadingGive us today our necessary breadⓘ;
12
Orthodox Readingand forgive us our debtsⓘ, as we also forgive our debtors,
13
Orthodox Readingand do not abandon usⓘ to the trialⓘ, but deliver us from the Evil Oneⓘ.
14
Orthodox ReadingFor if you forgive men their faults — the forgiveness that opens to teshuvah conversionⓘ —, your heavenly Father will forgive you also;
15
Orthodox Readingbut if you do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive your faults.
16
Orthodox ReadingWhen you observe the fast taanitⓘ, do not become gloomy in face like the pretendersⓘ, who disfigure their faces to show men that they are fasting. Truly I tell you: they have already received their reward.
17
Orthodox ReadingBut you, when you observe the taanit individual fastⓘ, anoint your head and wash your face suspended gesturesⓘ,
18
Orthodox Readingso that you may not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father in secretⓘ; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
