ויאספו כל העם כאיש אחד אל הרחוב אשר לפני שער המים ויאמרו לעזרא הספר להביא את ספר תורת משה אשר צוה יהוה את ישראל

καὶ συνήχθησαν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὡς ἀνὴρ εἷς εἰς τὸ πλάτος τὸ ἔμπροσθεν πύλης τοῦ ὕδατος. καὶ εἶπαν τῷ Εσδρα τῷ γραμματεῖ ἐνέγκαι τὸ βιβλίον νόμου Μωυσῆ, ὃν ἐνετείλατο κύριος τῷ Ισραηλ.

And all the people gathered as one manⓘ in the square before the Water Gateⓘ, and they told ʿEzrà the scribeⓘ to bring the scroll of the instruction of Mosesⓘ — the Torah that the Tetragrammatonⓘ had commanded to Israel.

ויביא עזרא הכהן את התורה לפני הקהל מאיש ועד אשה וכל מבין לשמע ביום אחד לחדש השביעי

καὶ ἤνεγκεν Εσδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸν νόμον ἐνώπιον τῆς ἐκκλησίας ἀπὸ ἀνδρὸς καὶ ἕως γυναικὸς καὶ πᾶς ὁ συνίων ἀκούειν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ ἑβδόμου

And ʿEzrà the priestⓘ brought the Torah before the assemblyⓘ — from man to woman and to all who could understand and hear —, on the first day of the seventh month;

ויקרא בו לפני הרחוב אשר לפני שער המים מן האור עד מחצית היום נגד האנשים והנשים והמבינים ואזני כל העם אל ספר התורה

καὶ ἀνέγνω ἐν αὐτῷ ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας τοῦ διαφωτίσαι τὸν ἥλιον ἕως ἡμίσους τῆς ἡμέρας ἀπέναντι τῶν ἀνδρῶν καὶ τῶν γυναικῶν, καὶ αὐτοὶ συνιέντες, καὶ ὦτα παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ εἰς τὸ βιβλίον τοῦ νόμου.

and he read from it from dawn until middayⓘ, before the men and the women and those who understood; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the scroll of the Torah.

ויעמד עזרא הספר על מגדל עץ אשר עשו לדבר ויעמד אצלו מתתיה ושמע ועניה ואוריה וחלקיה ומעשיה על ימינו ומשמאלו פדיה ומישאל ומלכיה וחשם וחשבדנה זכריה משלם

καὶ ἔστη Εσδρας ὁ γραμματεὺς ἐπὶ βήματος ξυλίνου, καὶ ἔστησαν ἐχόμενα αὐτοῦ Ματταθιας καὶ Σαμαιας καὶ Ανανιας καὶ Ουρια καὶ Ελκια καὶ Μαασαια ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐξ ἀριστερῶν Φαδαιας καὶ Μισαηλ καὶ Μελχιας καὶ Ωσαμ καὶ Ασαβδανα καὶ Ζαχαριας καὶ Μοσολλαμ.

And ʿEzrà the scribe stood on a wooden platformⓘ made for the purpose, and beside him stood at his right hand Mattithiah, Shemaʿ, ʿAnaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah and Maaseiah, and at his left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah and Meshullam.

ויפתח עזרא הספר לעיני כל העם כי מעל כל העם היה וכפתחו עמדו כל העם

καὶ ἤνοιξεν Εσδρας τὸ βιβλίον ἐνώπιον παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ – ὅτι αὐτὸς ἦν ἐπάνω τοῦ λαοῦ – καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα ἤνοιξεν αὐτό, ἔστη πᾶς ὁ λαός.

And ʿEzrà opened the book before all the people — for he stood higher than all the people — and when he opened it, all the people stood up.

ויברך עזרא את יהוה האלהים הגדול ויענו כל העם אמן אמן במעל ידיהם ויקדו וישתחו ליהוה אפים ארצה

καὶ ηὐλόγησεν Εσδρας κύριον τὸν θεὸν τὸν μέγαν, καὶ ἀπεκρίθη πᾶς ὁ λαὸς καὶ εἶπαν Αμην ἐπάραντες χεῖρας αὐτῶν καὶ ἔκυψαν καὶ προσεκύνησαν τῷ κυρίῳ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.

And ʿEzrà blessed the Tetragrammaton, the great God; and all the people answered: Amèn, Amènⓘ, lifting their hands; and they bowed and prostrated themselves before the Tetragrammaton with their faces to the groundⓘ.

וישוע ובני ושרביה ימין עקוב שבתי הודיה מעשיה קליטא עזריה יוזבד חנן פלאיה והלוים מבינים את העם לתורה והעם על עמדם

καὶ Ἰησοῦς καὶ Βαναιας καὶ Σαραβια ἦσαν συνετίζοντες τὸν λαὸν εἰς τὸν νόμον, καὶ ὁ λαὸς ἐν τῇ στάσει αὐτοῦ.

And the Levites — Yeshùa, Banì, Sherevyah, Yamin, ʿAqqub, Shabbetai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, ʿAzariah, Yozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah — were giving understandingⓘ of the Torah to the people, and the people stood in their place.

ויקראו בספר בתורת האלהים מפרש ושום שכל ויבינו במקרא

καὶ ἀνέγνωσαν ἐν βιβλίῳ νόμου τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ ἐδίδασκεν Εσδρας καὶ διέστελλεν ἐν ἐπιστήμῃ κυρίου, καὶ συνῆκεν ὁ λαὸς ἐν τῇ ἀναγνώσει. –

And they read from the scroll of the instruction of God distinctly, translating and giving the senseⓘ, and the people understood the reading.

ויאמר נחמיה הוא התרשתא ועזרא הכהן הספר והלוים המבינים את העם לכל העם היום קדש הוא ליהוה אלהיכם אל תתאבלו ואל תבכו כי בוכים כל העם כשמעם את דברי התורה

καὶ εἶπεν Νεεμιας καὶ Εσδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ γραμματεὺς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται οἱ συνετίζοντες τὸν λαὸν καὶ εἶπαν παντὶ τῷ λαῷ Ἡ ἡμέρα ἁγία ἐστὶν τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ ἡμῶν, μὴ πενθεῖτε μηδὲ κλαίετε· ὅτι ἔκλαιεν πᾶς ὁ λαός, ὡς ἤκουσαν τοὺς λόγους τοῦ νόμου.

And Nechemyàhⓘ the governor, ʿEzrà the priest-scribe and the Levites who instructed the people said to all the people: This day is holyⓘ to the Tetragrammaton your God: do not mourn and do not weep — for all the people wept as they heard the words of the Torah.

ויאמר להם לכו אכלו משמנים ושתו ממתקים ושלחו מנות לאין נכון לו כי קדוש היום לאדנינו ואל תעצבו כי חדות יהוה היא מעזכם

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πορεύεσθε φάγετε λιπάσματα καὶ πίετε γλυκάσματα καὶ ἀποστείλατε μερίδας τοῖς μὴ ἔχουσιν, ὅτι ἁγία ἐστὶν ἡ ἡμέρα τῷ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν· καὶ μὴ διαπέσητε, ὅτι ἐστὶν ἰσχὺς ὑμῶν.

And he said to them: Go, eat rich foodsⓘ, drink sweet drinks, and send portionsⓘ to those who have nothing prepared, for holy is the day to our Lord; and do not grieve, for the joy of the Tetragrammaton is your strengthⓘ.

והלוים מחשים לכל העם לאמר הסו כי היום קדש ואל תעצבו

καὶ οἱ Λευῖται κατεσιώπων πάντα τὸν λαὸν λέγοντες Σιωπᾶτε, ὅτι ἡ ἡμέρα ἁγία, καὶ μὴ καταπίπτετε.

And the Levites calmed all the people saying: Be silentⓘ, for the day is holy; do not grieve.

וילכו כל העם לאכל ולשתות ולשלח מנות ולעשות שמחה גדולה כי הבינו בדברים אשר הודיעו להם

καὶ ἀπῆλθεν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς φαγεῖν καὶ πιεῖν καὶ ἀποστέλλειν μερίδας καὶ ποιῆσαι εὐφροσύνην μεγάλην, ὅτι συνῆκαν ἐν τοῖς λόγοις, οἷς ἐγνώρισεν αὐτοῖς.

And all the people went to eat, to drink, to send portions and to make great joyⓘ, for they had understood the words that had been made known to them.

וביום השני נאספו ראשי האבות לכל העם הכהנים והלוים אל עזרא הספר ולהשכיל אל דברי התורה

Καὶ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ δευτέρᾳ συνήχθησαν οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν τῷ παντὶ λαῷ, οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται πρὸς Εσδραν τὸν γραμματέα ἐπιστῆσαι πρὸς πάντας τοὺς λόγους τοῦ νόμου.

And on the second day the heads of the ancestral houses of all the people, the priests and the Levites, gathered before ʿEzrà the scribe, to gain insightⓘ into the words of the Torah.

וימצאו כתוב בתורה אשר צוה יהוה ביד משה אשר ישבו בני ישראל בסכות בחג בחדש השביעי

καὶ εὕροσαν γεγραμμένον ἐν τῷ νόμῳ, ᾧ ἐνετείλατο κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ, ὅπως κατοικήσωσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἐν σκηναῖς ἐν ἑορτῇ ἐν μηνὶ τῷ ἑβδόμῳ,

And they found written in the Torah that the Tetragrammaton had commanded through the hand of Moses that the children of Israel should dwell in boothsⓘ during the feast of the seventh month,

ואשר ישמיעו ויעבירו קול בכל עריהם ובירושלם לאמר צאו ההר והביאו עלי זית ועלי עץ שמן ועלי הדס ועלי תמרים ועלי עץ עבת לעשת סכת ככתוב

καὶ ὅπως σημάνωσιν σάλπιγξιν ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ. καὶ εἶπεν Εσδρας Ἐξέλθετε εἰς τὸ ὄρος καὶ ἐνέγκετε φύλλα ἐλαίας καὶ φύλλα ξύλων κυπαρισσίνων καὶ φύλλα μυρσίνης καὶ φύλλα φοινίκων καὶ φύλλα ξύλου δασέος ποιῆσαι σκηνὰς κατὰ τὸ γεγραμμένον.

and that they should announce and circulate a proclamationⓘ through all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying: Go out to the mountain and bring branches of olive, branches of wild oliveⓘ, branches of myrtle, branches of palm, and branches of leafy treesⓘ, to make booths, as it is written.

ויצאו העם ויביאו ויעשו להם סכות איש על גגו ובחצרתיהם ובחצרות בית האלהים וברחוב שער המים וברחוב שער אפרים

καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ λαὸς καὶ ἤνεγκαν καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς σκηνὰς ἀνὴρ ἐπὶ τοῦ δώματος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν ταῖς αὐλαῖς αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν ταῖς αὐλαῖς οἴκου τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐν πλατείαις τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἕως πύλης Εφραιμ.

And the people went out and brought them and made themselves booths, each on his own roof, in their courtyards, in the courtyards of the house of God, in the square of the Water Gate and in the square of the Ephraim Gateⓘ.

ויעשו כל הקהל השבים מן השבי סכות וישבו בסכות כי לא עשו מימי ישוע בן נון כן בני ישראל עד היום ההוא ותהי שמחה גדולה מאד

καὶ ἐποίησαν πᾶσα ἡ ἐκκλησία οἱ ἐπιστρέψαντες ἀπὸ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας σκηνὰς καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐν σκηναῖς· ὅτι οὐκ ἐποίησαν ἀπὸ ἡμερῶν Ἰησοῦ υἱοῦ Ναυη οὕτως οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης· καὶ ἐγένετο εὐφροσύνη μεγάλη.

And the whole assembly of those who had returned from captivity made booths and dwelt in the booths — the children of Israel had not done so from the days of Yehoshùa son of Nunⓘ until that day — and there was very great joy.

ויקרא בספר תורת האלהים יום ביום מן היום הראשון עד היום האחרון ויעשו חג שבעת ימים וביום השמיני עצרת כמשפט

καὶ ἀνέγνω ἐν βιβλίῳ νόμου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμέραν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας τῆς πρώτης ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας τῆς ἐσχάτης· καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑορτὴν ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας καὶ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ ἐξόδιον κατὰ τὸ κρίμα.

And the scroll of the instruction of God was read day by day, from the first day until the last; and they kept the feast for seven days, and on the eighth day a solemn assemblyⓘ, according to the ordinance.
