Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς Τωβιας εἶπεν αὐτῷ Πάτερ, ποιήσω πάντα, ὅσα ἐντέταλσαί μοι·
And Tobit answered his father: «Father, I will do everything you have commanded me;

ἀλλὰ πῶς δυνήσομαι λαβεῖν τὸ ἀργύριον καὶ οὐ γινώσκω αὐτόν;
but how shall I recover the money, if I do not know the man with whom it is on deposit?»

καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ τὸ χειρόγραφον καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ζήτησον σεαυτῷ ἄνθρωπον, ὃς συμπορεύσεταί σοι, καὶ δώσω αὐτῷ μισθόν, ἕως ζῶ· καὶ λαβὲ πορευθεὶς τὸ ἀργύριον.
Then he gave him the and said to him: «Find a man to make the journey with you — I will give him wages as long as I live — and go to recover the money».

καὶ ἐπορεύθη ζητῆσαι ἄνθρωπον καὶ εὗρεν τὸν Ραφαηλ, ὃς ἦν ἄγγελος, καὶ οὐκ ᾔδει·
And he went out to find a man, and found , who was a , and Tobit did not know it;

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Εἰ δύναμαι πορευθῆναι μετὰ σοῦ ἐν Ῥάγοις τῆς Μηδίας, καὶ εἰ ἔμπειρος εἶ τῶν τόπων;
and he said to him: «Can you come with me to ? Do you know those places?»

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἄγγελος Πορεύσομαι μετὰ σοῦ καὶ τῆς ὁδοῦ ἐμπειρῶ καὶ παρὰ Γαβαηλ τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἡμῶν ηὐλίσθην.
The messenger answered him: «I will come with you; I know the road and have already lodged with , our brother».

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τωβιας Ὑπόμεινόν με, καὶ ἐρῶ τῷ πατρί μου.
And Tobit said: «Wait for me, and I will tell my father».

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Πορεύου καὶ μὴ χρονίσῃς.
And he said: «Go, and do not delay».

καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἶπεν τῷ πατρί Ἰδοὺ εὕρηκα ὃς συμπορεύσεταί μοι. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Φώνησον αὐτὸν πρός με, ἵνα ἐπιγνῶ ποίας φυλῆς ἐστιν καὶ εἰ πιστὸς τοῦ πορευθῆναι μετὰ σοῦ.
Having gone in, he said to his father: «See, I have found one who will come with me». And he answered: «Call him to me, so that I may know from which he is, and whether he is reliable enough to go with you».

καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτόν, καὶ εἰσῆλθεν, καὶ ἠσπάσαντο ἀλλήλους.
He called him, he came in, and they greeted one another.

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τωβιτ Ἄδελφε, ἐκ ποίας φυλῆς καὶ ἐκ ποίας πατρίδος σὺ εἶ; ὑπόδειξόν μοι.
And Tobit said to him: «Brother, from which tribe and from which do you come? Tell me».

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Φυλὴν καὶ πατριὰν σὺ ζητεῖς ἢ μίσθιον, ὃς συμπορεύσεται μετὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ σου; καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τωβιτ Βούλομαι, ἄδελφε, ἐπιγνῶναι τὸ γένος σου καὶ τὸ ὄνομα.
He answered: «Are you looking for a tribe and a family, or a to travel with your son?» And Tobit said: «I want to know, brother, your and your name».

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ἐγὼ Αζαριας Ανανιου τοῦ μεγάλου, τῶν ἀδελφῶν σου.
And he said: «I am , son of Chananyà the great, of your kinsmen».

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ὑγιαίνων ἔλθοις, ἄδελφε· καὶ μή μοι ὀργισθῇς ὅτι ἐζήτησα τὴν φυλήν σου καὶ τὴν πατριάν σου ἐπιγνῶναι. καὶ σὺ τυγχάνεις ἀδελφός μου ἐκ τῆς καλῆς καὶ ἀγαθῆς γενεᾶς· ἐπεγίνωσκον γὰρ ἐγὼ Ανανιαν καὶ Ιαθαν τοὺς υἱοὺς Σεμειου τοῦ μεγάλου, ὡς ἐπορευόμεθα κοινῶς εἰς Ιεροσόλυμα προσκυνεῖν ἀναφέροντες τὰ πρωτότοκα καὶ τὰς δεκάτας τῶν γενημάτων, καὶ οὐκ ἐπλανήθησαν ἐν τῇ πλάνῃ τῶν ἀδελφῶν ἡμῶν. ἐκ ῥίζης καλῆς εἶ, ἄδελφε.
And he said to him: «Come in peace, brother, and do not be angry that I wished to know your tribe and your family. You are my brother, of good and noble lineage: I knew Chananyà and Natàn, the sons of Shemaià the great, when we used to go up together to Jerusalem to , bringing the and the of the produce; and they did not go astray in the going-astray of our brothers. You are of good root, brother».

ἀλλ’ εἰπόν μοι τίνα σοι ἔσομαι μισθὸν διδόναι· δραχμὴν τῆς ἡμέρας καὶ τὰ δέοντά σοι ὡς καὶ τῷ υἱῷ μου;
«But tell me: what wages shall I give you? A a day and whatever you need, as for my son».

καὶ ἔτι προσθήσω σοι ἐπὶ τὸν μισθόν, ἐὰν ὑγιαίνοντες ἐπιστρέψητε.
«And I will add to the wages if you return safely».

καὶ εὐδόκησαν οὕτως. καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς Τωβιαν Ἕτοιμος γίνου πρὸς τὴν ὁδόν· καὶ εὐοδωθείητε. καὶ ἡτοίμασεν ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ τὰ πρὸς τὴν ὁδόν. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ Πορεύου μετὰ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου· ὁ δὲ ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ οἰκῶν θεὸς εὐοδώσει τὴν ὁδὸν ὑμῶν, καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος αὐτοῦ συμπορευθήτω ὑμῖν. καὶ ἐξῆλθαν ἀμφότεροι ἀπελθεῖν καὶ ὁ κύων τοῦ παιδαρίου μετ’ αὐτῶν. –
And they came to an agreement. Then he said to Tobit: «Be ready for the journey; go in peace». And his son prepared what was needed. And his father said to him: «Go with this man; and your journey, and may his messenger go with you». And they both went out, and with them the of the young man.

ἔκλαυσεν δὲ Αννα ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς Τωβιτ Τί ἐξαπέστειλας τὸ παιδίον ἡμῶν; ἢ οὐχὶ ἡ ῥάβδος τῆς χειρὸς ἡμῶν ἐστιν ἐν τῷ εἰσπορεύεσθαι αὐτὸν καὶ ἐκπορεύεσθαι ἐνώπιον ἡμῶν;
But Anna, his mother, wept and said to Tobit: «Why have you sent away our child? Is he not the as he goes in and out before us?

ἀργύριον τῷ ἀργυρίῳ μὴ φθάσαι, ἀλλὰ περίψημα τοῦ παιδίου ἡμῶν γένοιτο·
Let money not be added to money: let it be the of our child!

ὡς γὰρ δέδοται ἡμῖν ζῆν παρὰ τοῦ κυρίου, τοῦτο ἱκανὸν ἡμῖν ὑπάρχει.

And Tobit said to her: «Do not worry, sister; he will return safely, and your eyes will see him;

ἄγγελος γὰρ ἀγαθὸς συμπορεύσεται αὐτῷ, καὶ εὐοδωθήσεται ἡ ὁδὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὑποστρέψει ὑγιαίνων.
a will go with him: his journey will be prosperous, and he will return safely».

καὶ ἐπαύσατο κλαίουσα.
And she stopped weeping.
