Greekκαὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· Ῥαββί, τίς ἥμαρτεν, οὗτος ἢ οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ, ἵνα τυφλὸς γεννηθῇ;
Gnostic Translatione i suoi discepoli lo interrogarono: «Rabbì, chi ha peccato, lui o i suoi genitori, perché egli nascesse cieco?».
Orthodox ReadingAnd his disciplesⓘ questioned him saying: «Rabbiⓘ, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blindⓘ?».

Greekἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς· Οὔτε οὗτος ἥμαρτεν οὔτε οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ, ἀλλ’ ἵνα φανερωθῇ τὰ ἔργα τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν αὐτῷ.
Gnostic TranslationRispose Gesù: «Né lui ha peccato né i suoi genitori, ma è perché in lui siano manifestate le opere di Dio.
Orthodox ReadingJesus answered: «Neither this man sinned nor his parentsⓘ, but that the works of God might be manifested in himⓘ.

Greek⸀ἡμᾶς δεῖ ἐργάζεσθαι τὰ ἔργα τοῦ πέμψαντός με ἕως ἡμέρα ἐστίν· ἔρχεται νὺξ ὅτε οὐδεὶς δύναται ἐργάζεσθαι.
Gnostic TranslationBisogna che noi compiamo le opere di colui che mi ha mandato finché è giorno; poi viene la notte, quando nessuno può agire.
Orthodox ReadingWe must workⓘ the works of him who sent meⓘ while it is day; the night comesⓘ, when no one can work.

Greekκαὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ὕπαγε νίψαι εἰς τὴν κολυμβήθραν τοῦ Σιλωάμ (ὃ ἑρμηνεύεται Ἀπεσταλμένος). ἀπῆλθεν οὖν καὶ ἐνίψατο, καὶ ἦλθεν βλέπων.
Gnostic Translatione gli disse: «Va' a lavarti nella piscina di Sìloe» – che significa Inviato. Quegli andò, si lavò e tornò che ci vedeva.
Orthodox Readingand said to him: «Goⓘ, wash yourselfⓘ in the pool of Siloamⓘ» (which is translated «Sent»ⓘ). He went therefore and washed, and returned seeingⓘ.

Greekοἱ οὖν γείτονες καὶ οἱ θεωροῦντες αὐτὸν τὸ πρότερον ὅτι ⸀προσαίτης ἦν ἔλεγον· Οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ καθήμενος καὶ προσαιτῶν;
Gnostic TranslationAllora i vicini e quelli che lo avevano visto prima, perché era un mendicante, dicevano: «Non è lui quello che stava seduto a chiedere l'elemosina?».
Orthodox ReadingThe neighbors therefore and those who had seen him before, that he was a beggarⓘ, said: «Is this not the one who used to sit and beg?».

Greekἄλλοι ἔλεγον ὅτι Οὗτός ἐστιν· ἄλλοι ⸂ἔλεγον· Οὐχί, ἀλλὰ⸃ ὅμοιος αὐτῷ ἐστιν. ἐκεῖνος ἔλεγεν ὅτι Ἐγώ εἰμι.
Gnostic TranslationAlcuni dicevano: «È lui»; altri dicevano: «No, ma è uno che gli assomiglia». Ed egli diceva: «Sono io!».
Orthodox ReadingOthers said: «It is he»; others said: «No, but he resembles him». He kept saying: «It is Iⓘ».

Greekἀπεκρίθη ⸀ἐκεῖνος· ⸂Ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὁ⸃ λεγόμενος Ἰησοῦς πηλὸν ἐποίησεν καὶ ἐπέχρισέν μου τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς καὶ εἶπέν μοι ⸀ὅτι Ὕπαγε εἰς ⸀τὸν Σιλωὰμ καὶ νίψαι· ἀπελθὼν ⸀οὖν καὶ νιψάμενος ἀνέβλεψα.
Gnostic TranslationEgli rispose: «L'uomo che si chiama Gesù ha fatto del fango, mi ha spalmato gli occhi e mi ha detto: Va' a Sìloe e làvati! Io sono andato, mi sono lavato e ho acquistato la vista».
Orthodox ReadingHe answered: «The man called Jesusⓘ made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me: «Go to Siloam and wash yourself»; having gone therefore and having washed myself, I recovered my sightⓘ».

Gnostic TranslationGli dissero: «Dov'è costui?». Rispose: «Non lo so».
