GreekἈκουόντων δὲ αὐτῶν ταῦτα προσθεὶς εἶπεν παραβολὴν διὰ τὸ ἐγγὺς ⸂εἶναι Ἰερουσαλὴμ αὐτὸν⸃ καὶ δοκεῖν αὐτοὺς ὅτι παραχρῆμα μέλλει ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ ἀναφαίνεσθαι·
Orthodox ReadingWhile they were listening to these things, he added a parable, because he was now near Jerusalem and they believed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediatelyⓘ.

Greekεἶπεν οὖν· Ἄνθρωπός τις εὐγενὴς ἐπορεύθη εἰς χώραν μακρὰν λαβεῖν ἑαυτῷ βασιλείαν καὶ ὑποστρέψαι.
Orthodox ReadingHe said therefore: «A man of noble birthⓘ set out for a distant country to receive the royal titleⓘ and then return.

Greekκαλέσας δὲ δέκα δούλους ἑαυτοῦ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς δέκα μνᾶς καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· ⸀Πραγματεύσασθε ⸂ἐν ᾧ⸃ ἔρχομαι.
Orthodox ReadingHaving called ten of his servantsⓘ, he handed them ten minasⓘ and said to them: «Trade with theseⓘ until I return».

Greekοἱ δὲ πολῖται αὐτοῦ ἐμίσουν αὐτόν, καὶ ἀπέστειλαν πρεσβείαν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· Οὐ θέλομεν τοῦτον βασιλεῦσαι ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς.
Orthodox ReadingBut his fellow citizens hated himⓘ and sent an embassy after him to say: «We do not want this man to reign over usⓘ».

Greekκαὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἐπανελθεῖν αὐτὸν λαβόντα τὴν βασιλείαν καὶ εἶπεν φωνηθῆναι αὐτῷ τοὺς δούλους τούτους οἷς ⸀δεδώκει τὸ ἀργύριον, ἵνα ⸀γνοῖ τί ⸀διεπραγματεύσαντο.
Orthodox ReadingWhen he returned, having received the royal title, he had those servants called to whom he had handed the money, in order to know how much each had gained by trading.

Greekπαρεγένετο δὲ ὁ πρῶτος λέγων· Κύριε, ἡ μνᾶ σου ⸂δέκα προσηργάσατο⸃ μνᾶς.
Orthodox ReadingThe first presented himself saying: «Lord, your mina has gained ten moreⓘ».

Greekκαὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ⸀Εὖγε, ἀγαθὲ δοῦλε, ὅτι ἐν ἐλαχίστῳ πιστὸς ἐγένου, ἴσθι ἐξουσίαν ἔχων ἐπάνω δέκα πόλεων.
Orthodox ReadingHe said to him: «Well done, good servantⓘ, since you have been faithful in a very small matter, have authority over ten citiesⓘ».

Greekκαὶ ἦλθεν ὁ δεύτερος λέγων· ⸂Ἡ μνᾶ σου, κύριε⸃, ἐποίησεν πέντε μνᾶς.
Orthodox ReadingThe second came saying: «Lord, your mina has made five».

Greekεἶπεν δὲ καὶ τούτῳ· Καὶ σὺ ⸂ἐπάνω γίνου⸃ πέντε πόλεων.
Orthodox ReadingTo this one too he said: «You also be over five cities».

Greekκαὶ ⸀ὁ ἕτερος ἦλθεν λέγων· Κύριε, ἰδοὺ ἡ μνᾶ σου ἣν εἶχον ἀποκειμένην ἐν σουδαρίῳ·
Orthodox ReadingAnd the other came saying: «Lord, here is your mina, which I have kept laid away in a clothⓘ;

Greekἐφοβούμην γάρ σε ὅτι ἄνθρωπος αὐστηρὸς εἶ, αἴρεις ὃ οὐκ ἔθηκας καὶ θερίζεις ὃ οὐκ ἔσπειρας.
Orthodox Readingbecause I was afraid of you, because you are a severe manⓘ: you take what you did not deposit and reap where you did not sow».

Greek⸀λέγει αὐτῷ· Ἐκ τοῦ στόματός σου κρίνω σε, πονηρὲ δοῦλε· ᾔδεις ὅτι ἐγὼ ἄνθρωπος αὐστηρός εἰμι, αἴρων ὃ οὐκ ἔθηκα καὶ θερίζων ὃ οὐκ ἔσπειρα;
Orthodox ReadingHe said to him: «From your own mouth I judge youⓘ, wicked servant! You knew that I am a severe man, who take what I did not deposit and reap where I did not sow?

Greekκαὶ διὰ τί οὐκ ἔδωκάς ⸂μου τὸ ἀργύριον⸃ ἐπὶ τράπεζαν; κἀγὼ ἐλθὼν σὺν τόκῳ ἂν ⸂αὐτὸ ἔπραξα⸃.
Orthodox ReadingAnd why did you not hand over my money to the bankⓘ? I, on my return, would have collected it with interest».

Greekκαὶ τοῖς παρεστῶσιν εἶπεν· Ἄρατε ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ τὴν μνᾶν καὶ δότε τῷ τὰς δέκα μνᾶς ἔχοντι—
Orthodox ReadingAnd he said to those standing before him: «Take the mina from him and give it to the one who already has ten».

Greekκαὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Κύριε, ἔχει δέκα μνᾶς—
Orthodox ReadingThey answered him: «But, Lord, he already has ten!».

Greek⸀λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι παντὶ τῷ ἔχοντι δοθήσεται, ἀπὸ δὲ τοῦ μὴ ἔχοντος καὶ ὃ ἔχει ⸀ἀρθήσεται.
Orthodox Reading«I tell you: to everyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken awayⓘ.

Greekπλὴν τοὺς ἐχθρούς μου ⸀τούτους τοὺς μὴ θελήσαντάς με βασιλεῦσαι ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ἀγάγετε ὧδε καὶ κατασφάξατε ⸀αὐτοὺς ἔμπροσθέν μου.
Orthodox ReadingAs for those enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before meⓘ».
