GreekἘν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις ⸂πάλιν πολλοῦ⸃ ὄχλου ὄντος καὶ μὴ ἐχόντων τί φάγωσιν, ⸀προσκαλεσάμενος τοὺς ⸀μαθητὰς λέγει αὐτοῖς·
Orthodox ReadingIn those daysⓘ, there being again a great crowd of am ha-aretz (the non-observant common folk, not ḥaverim) who had nothing to eat, having called his disciples disciplesⓘ to himself, he said to them:

GreekΣπλαγχνίζομαι ἐπὶ τὸν ὄχλον ὅτι ἤδη ἡμέραι τρεῖς προσμένουσίν μοι καὶ οὐκ ἔχουσιν τί φάγωσιν·
Orthodox Reading«I have compassionⓘ toward this crowd, because already for three daysⓘ they remain with meⓘ and have nothing to eat.

Greekκαὶ ἐὰν ἀπολύσω αὐτοὺς νήστεις εἰς οἶκον αὐτῶν, ἐκλυθήσονται ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ· ⸂καί τινες⸃ αὐτῶν ⸀ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ⸀ἥκασιν.
Orthodox ReadingAnd if I send them away to their homes fastingⓘ, they will grow faintⓘ along the way; and some of them have come from afarⓘ».

Greekκαὶ ⸀ἠρώτα αὐτούς· Πόσους ἔχετε ἄρτους; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· Ἑπτά.

Greekκαὶ ⸀παραγγέλλει τῷ ὄχλῳ ἀναπεσεῖν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς· καὶ λαβὼν τοὺς ἑπτὰ ἄρτους εὐχαριστήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ ἐδίδου τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ ἵνα ⸀παρατιθῶσιν καὶ παρέθηκαν τῷ ὄχλῳ.
Orthodox ReadingAnd he commanded the crowd to reclineⓘ on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, he gave thanks with the berakhahⓘ — a domestic gesture of the master of the house at table, not a formalized sacramental rite —, he broke themⓘ and gave them to his disciples to distribute; and they distributed them to the crowd.

Greek⸂καὶ ἔφαγον⸃ καὶ ἐχορτάσθησαν, καὶ ἦραν περισσεύματα κλασμάτων ἑπτὰ σπυρίδας.
