על משמרתי אעמדה ואתיצבה על מצור ואצפה לראות מה ידבר בי ומה אשיב על תוכחתי
Ἐπὶ τῆς φυλακῆς μου στήσομαι καὶ ἐπιβήσομαι ἐπὶ πέτραν καὶ ἀποσκοπεύσω τοῦ ἰδεῖν τί λαλήσει ἐν ἐμοὶ καὶ τί ἀποκριθῶ ἐπὶ τὸν ἔλεγχόν μου.
Upon my watchⓘ I will stand, I will post myself on the rampartⓘ and keep watch to see what he will say to me and what I shall answer to my complaintⓘ.

ויענני יהוה ויאמר כתוב חזון ובאר על הלחות למען ירוץ קורא בו
καὶ ἀπεκρίθη πρός με κύριος καὶ εἶπεν Γράψον ὅρασιν καὶ σαφῶς ἐπὶ πυξίον, ὅπως διώκῃ ὁ ἀναγινώσκων αὐτά.
And the Tetragrammaton answered me and said: "Write the visionⓘ and engrave it plainly on tabletsⓘ, so that whoever reads it may run.

כי עוד חזון למועד ויפח לקץ ולא יכזב אם יתמהמה חכה לו כי בא יבא לא יאחר
διότι ἔτι ὅρασις εἰς καιρὸν καὶ ἀνατελεῖ εἰς πέρας καὶ οὐκ εἰς κενόν· ἐὰν ὑστερήσῃ, ὑπόμεινον αὐτόν, ὅτι ἐρχόμενος ἥξει καὶ οὐ μὴ χρονίσῃ.
For the vision is still for the appointed timeⓘ, and it hastens toward the end and does not lie: if it delays, wait for it wait for itⓘ, for coming it will come, it will not delay.

הנה עפלה לא ישרה נפשו בו וצדיק באמונתו יחיה
ἐὰν ὑποστείληται, οὐκ εὐδοκεῖ ἡ ψυχή μου ἐν αὐτῷ· ὁ δὲ δίκαιος ἐκ πίστεώς μου ζήσεται.
Behold, puffed upⓘ, his soul within him is not upright; but the righteous the righteousⓘ by his faithfulness faithfulnessⓘ shall live.

ואף כי היין בוגד גבר יהיר ולא ינוה אשר הרחיב כשאול נפשו והוא כמות ולא ישבע ויאסף אליו כל הגוים ויקבץ אליו כל העמים
ὁ δὲ κατοινωμένος καὶ καταφρονητὴς ἀνὴρ ἀλάζων οὐδὲν μὴ περάνῃ, ὃς ἐπλάτυνεν καθὼς ὁ ᾅδης τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὗτος ὡς θάνατος οὐκ ἐμπιπλάμενος καὶ ἐπισυνάξει ἐπ’ αὐτὸν πάντα τὰ ἔθνη καὶ εἰσδέξεται πρὸς αὐτὸν πάντας τοὺς λαούς.
Moreover, wine betrays: the arrogantⓘ man will have no rest, he who opens as wide as Sheolⓘ his throat, and like death is never satisfied, and gathers to himself all the nations, collects to himself all the peoples.

הלוא אלה כלם עליו משל ישאו ומליצה חידות לו ויאמר הוי המרבה לא לו עד מתי ומכביד עליו עבטיט
οὐχὶ ταῦτα πάντα παραβολὴν κατ’ αὐτοῦ λήμψονται καὶ πρόβλημα εἰς διήγησιν αὐτοῦ; καὶ ἐροῦσιν Οὐαὶ ὁ πληθύνων ἑαυτῷ τὰ οὐκ ὄντα αὐτοῦ – ἕως τίνος; – καὶ βαρύνων τὸν κλοιὸν αὐτοῦ στιβαρῶς.
Shall not all these take up a taunt-sayingⓘ and a riddle of derision against him? And they will say: "Woe to him who heaps up what is not his — how long? — and loads himself with pledgesⓘ!

הלוא פתע יקומו נשכיך ויקצו מזעזעיך והיית למשסות למו
ὅτι ἐξαίφνης ἀναστήσονται δάκνοντες αὐτόν, καὶ ἐκνήψουσιν οἱ ἐπίβουλοί σου, καὶ ἔσῃ εἰς διαρπαγὴν αὐτοῖς.
Will not your creditorsⓘ rise up suddenly, will not those who will shake you awake, and will you not become their plunder?

כי אתה שלות גוים רבים ישלוך כל יתר עמים מדמי אדם וחמס ארץ קריה וכל ישבי בה
διότι σὺ ἐσκύλευσας ἔθνη πολλά, σκυλεύσουσίν σε πάντες οἱ ὑπολελειμμένοι λαοὶ δι’ αἵματα ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἀσεβείας γῆς καὶ πόλεως καὶ πάντων τῶν κατοικούντων αὐτήν. –
Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnants of the peoples will plunder you, for the blood of manⓘ and the violenceⓘ done to the land, the city, and all its inhabitants.

הוי בצע בצע רע לביתו לשום במרום קנו להנצל מכף רע
ὦ ὁ πλεονεκτῶν πλεονεξίαν κακὴν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ τοῦ τάξαι εἰς ὕψος νοσσιὰν αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἐκσπασθῆναι ἐκ χειρὸς κακῶν.
Woe to him who gains wicked gainⓘ for his house, to set his nestⓘ on high and escape from the hand of evil!

יעצת בשת לביתך קצות עמים רבים וחוטא נפשך
ἐβουλεύσω αἰσχύνην τῷ οἴκῳ σου, συνεπέρανας λαοὺς πολλούς, καὶ ἐξήμαρτεν ἡ ψυχή σου·
You have devised shame for your house, cutting off many peoples, and you sin against your own soul.

כי אבן מקיר תזעק וכפיס מעץ יעננה
διότι λίθος ἐκ τοίχου βοήσεται, καὶ κάνθαρος ἐκ ξύλου φθέγξεται αὐτά. –
For the stone from the wall will cry out the stone will cry outⓘ and the beamⓘ from the timber will answer it.

הוי בנה עיר בדמים וכונן קריה בעולה
οὐαὶ ὁ οἰκοδομῶν πόλιν ἐν αἵμασιν καὶ ἑτοιμάζων πόλιν ἐν ἀδικίαις.
Woe to him who builds a city with blood and founds a town with iniquity!

הלוא הנה מאת יהוה צבאות וייגעו עמים בדי אש ולאמים בדי ריק יעפו
οὐ ταῦτά ἐστιν παρὰ κυρίου παντοκράτορος; καὶ ἐξέλιπον λαοὶ ἱκανοὶ ἐν πυρί, καὶ ἔθνη πολλὰ ὠλιγοψύχησαν.
Is it not indeed from the Tetragrammaton of hostsⓘ that peoples toil for fire and nations weary themselves for nothingⓘ?

כי תמלא הארץ לדעת את כבוד יהוה כמים יכסו על ים
ὅτι πλησθήσεται ἡ γῆ τοῦ γνῶναι τὴν δόξαν κυρίου, ὡς ὕδωρ κατακαλύψει αὐτούς. –
For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the gloryⓘ of the Tetragrammaton, as the waters cover the sea — the verse echoes Isaiah 11,9.

הוי משקה רעהו מספח חמתך ואף שכר למען הביט על מעוריהם
ὦ ὁ ποτίζων τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ ἀνατροπῇ θολερᾷ καὶ μεθύσκων, ὅπως ἐπιβλέπῃ ἐπὶ τὰ σπήλαια αὐτῶν.
Woe to him who makes his neighbour drink, pouring out his venomⓘ, and makes him drunk to look upon his nakedness!

שבעת קלון מכבוד שתה גם אתה והערל תסוב עליך כוס ימין יהוה וקיקלון על כבודך
πλησμονὴν ἀτιμίας ἐκ δόξης πίε καὶ σὺ καὶ διασαλεύθητι καὶ σείσθητι· ἐκύκλωσεν ἐπὶ σὲ ποτήριον δεξιᾶς κυρίου, καὶ συνήχθη ἀτιμία ἐπὶ τὴν δόξαν σου.
You have filled yourself with shameⓘ more than with glory: drink too, and show yourself uncircumcisedⓘ! The cupⓘ of the Tetragrammaton's right hand will turn upon you, and ignominy upon your glory.

כי חמס לבנון יכסך ושד בהמות יחיתן מדמי אדם וחמס ארץ קריה וכל ישבי בה
διότι ἀσέβεια τοῦ Λιβάνου καλύψει σε, καὶ ταλαιπωρία θηρίων πτοήσει σε διὰ αἵματα ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἀσεβείας γῆς καὶ πόλεως καὶ πάντων τῶν κατοικούντων αὐτήν. –
For the violence done to Levanònⓘ will cover you, and the devastation of the beasts will terrify you, for the blood of man and the violence done to the land, the city, and all its inhabitants.

מה הועיל פסל כי פסלו יצרו מסכה ומורה שקר כי בטח יצר יצרו עליו לעשות אלילים אלמים
Τί ὠφελεῖ γλυπτόν, ὅτι ἔγλυψαν αὐτό; ἔπλασαν αὐτὸ χώνευμα, φαντασίαν ψευδῆ, ὅτι πέποιθεν ὁ πλάσας ἐπὶ τὸ πλάσμα αὐτοῦ τοῦ ποιῆσαι εἴδωλα κωφά.
What profit is the carved idolⓘ that its maker has carved? The cast imageⓘ, a teacher of lies, so that the maker trusts in his own handiwork, making dumb idolsⓘ?

הוי אמר לעץ הקיצה עורי לאבן דומם הוא יורה הנה הוא תפוש זהב וכסף וכל רוח אין בקרבו
οὐαὶ ὁ λέγων τῷ ξύλῳ Ἔκνηψον ἐξεγέρθητι, καὶ τῷ λίθῳ Ὑψώθητι· καὶ αὐτό ἐστιν φαντασία, τοῦτο δέ ἐστιν ἔλασμα χρυσίου καὶ ἀργυρίου, καὶ πᾶν πνεῦμα οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῷ.
Woe to him who says to wood: "Wake up!", to the silent stone: "Rise!": shall it teach? Behold it is overlaid with gold and silver, but there is no breath within it breathⓘ.

ויהוה בהיכל קדשו הס מפניו כל הארץ
ὁ δὲ κύριος ἐν ναῷ ἁγίῳ αὐτοῦ· εὐλαβείσθω ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ πᾶσα ἡ γῆ.
But the Tetragrammaton is in his holy templeⓘ: silence before him silenceⓘ, all the earth.
