ותאמר לה נעמי חמותה בתי הלא אבקש לך מנוח אשר ייטב לך
Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῇ Νωεμιν ἡ πενθερὰ αὐτῆς Θύγατερ, οὐ μὴ ζητήσω σοι ἀνάπαυσιν, ἵνα εὖ γένηταί σοι;
And Noʿomì her mother-in-law said to her: «My daughter, should I not seek for you a manòachⓘ, so that it may go well with you?

ועתה הלא בעז מדעתנו אשר היית את נערותיו הנה הוא זרה את גרן השערים הלילה
καὶ νῦν οὐχὶ Βοος γνώριμος ἡμῶν, οὗ ἦς μετὰ τῶν κορασίων αὐτοῦ; ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς λικμᾷ τὸν ἅλωνα τῶν κριθῶν ταύτῃ τῇ νυκτί.
And now, is not Boʿàz our kinsmanⓘ, the one with whose young women you have been? Behold, he winnows the threshing floor of barleyⓘ this very night.

ורחצת וסכת ושמת שמלתך שמלתיך עליך וירדתי וירדת הגרן אל תודעי לאיש עד כלתו לאכל ולשתות
σὺ δὲ λούσῃ καὶ ἀλείψῃ καὶ περιθήσεις τὸν ἱματισμόν σου ἐπὶ σεαυτῇ καὶ ἀναβήσῃ ἐπὶ τὸν ἅλω· μὴ γνωρισθῇς τῷ ἀνδρὶ ἕως οὗ συντελέσαι αὐτὸν πιεῖν καὶ φαγεῖν·
Wash yourself therefore, anoint yourselfⓘ with oil, put on your garmentsⓘ best garments and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.

ויהי בשכבו וידעת את המקום אשר ישכב שם ובאת וגלית מרגלתיו ושכבתי ושכבת והוא יגיד לך את אשר תעשין
καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῷ κοιμηθῆναι αὐτόν, καὶ γνώσῃ τὸν τόπον, ὅπου κοιμᾶται ἐκεῖ, καὶ ἐλεύσῃ καὶ ἀποκαλύψεις τὰ πρὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ κοιμηθήσῃ, καὶ αὐτὸς ἀπαγγελεῖ σοι ἃ ποιήσεις.
And when he lies down, take note of the place where he lies, then you will go and uncover at his feetⓘ and lie down there; and he himself will tell you what you must do».

ותאמר אליה כל אשר תאמרי אלי אעשה
εἶπεν δὲ Ρουθ πρὸς αὐτήν Πάντα, ὅσα ἐὰν εἴπῃς, ποιήσω.
And Ruth answered her: «All that you tell me, I will do».

ותרד הגרן ותעש ככל אשר צותה חמותה
καὶ κατέβη εἰς τὸν ἅλω καὶ ἐποίησεν κατὰ πάντα, ὅσα ἐνετείλατο αὐτῇ ἡ πενθερὰ αὐτῆς.
And she went down to the threshing floor and did according to all that her mother-in-law had commanded her.

ויאכל בעז וישת וייטב לבו ויבא לשכב בקצה הערמה ותבא בלט ותגל מרגלתיו ותשכב
καὶ ἔφαγεν Βοος, καὶ ἠγαθύνθη ἡ καρδία αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἦλθεν κοιμηθῆναι ἐν μερίδι τῆς στοιβῆς· ἡ δὲ ἦλθεν κρυφῇ καὶ ἀπεκάλυψεν τὰ πρὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ.
And Boʿàz ate and drank, and his heart was gladⓘ, and he went to lie down at the edge of the heap of grain; and she came in secret, uncovered at his feet, and lay down.

ויהי בחצי הלילה ויחרד האיש וילפת והנה אשה שכבת מרגלתיו
ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ μεσονυκτίῳ καὶ ἐξέστη ὁ ἀνὴρ καὶ ἐταράχθη, καὶ ἰδοὺ γυνὴ κοιμᾶται πρὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ.
And it came to pass at midnight that the man trembledⓘ and turned, and behold, a woman was lying at his feet.

ויאמר מי את ותאמר אנכי רות אמתך ופרשת כנפך על אמתך כי גאל אתה
εἶπεν δέ Τίς εἶ σύ; ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Ἐγώ εἰμι Ρουθ ἡ δούλη σου, καὶ περιβαλεῖς τὸ πτερύγιόν σου ἐπὶ τὴν δούλην σου, ὅτι ἀγχιστεὺς εἶ σύ.
And he said: «Who are you?». And she said: «I am Ruth, your handmaidⓘ; spread your wingⓘ over your handmaid, for you are goèlⓘ, kinsman-redeemer».

ויאמר ברוכה את ליהוה בתי היטבת חסדך האחרון מן הראשון לבלתי לכת אחרי הבחורים אם דל ואם עשיר
καὶ εἶπεν Βοος Εὐλογημένη σὺ τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ, θύγατερ, ὅτι ἠγάθυνας τὸ ἔλεός σου τὸ ἔσχατον ὑπὲρ τὸ πρῶτον, τὸ μὴ πορευθῆναί σε ὀπίσω νεανιῶν, εἴτοι πτωχὸς εἴτοι πλούσιος.
And he said: «Blessed are you by the Tetragrammatonⓘ, my daughter: you have shown your chesedⓘ, your covenant loyalty, the last better than the first, in that you have not gone after the young men, whether poor or rich.

ועתה בתי אל תיראי כל אשר תאמרי אעשה לך כי יודע כל שער עמי כי אשת חיל את
καὶ νῦν, θύγατερ, μὴ φοβοῦ· πάντα, ὅσα ἐὰν εἴπῃς, ποιήσω σοι· οἶδεν γὰρ πᾶσα φυλὴ λαοῦ μου ὅτι γυνὴ δυνάμεως εἶ σύ,
And now, my daughter, do not fear: all that you say I will do for you, for all the gate of my peopleⓘ knows that you are a woman of worthⓘ.

ועתה כי אמנם כי אם גאל אנכי וגם יש גאל קרוב ממני
καὶ ὅτι ἀληθῶς ἀγχιστεὺς ἐγώ εἰμι, καί γε ἔστιν ἀγχιστεὺς ἐγγίων ὑπὲρ ἐμέ.
And now, it is indeed true that I am goèl, but there is also a goèl more nearⓘ than I by right.

ליני הלילה והיה בבקר אם יגאלך טוב יגאל ואם לא יחפץ לגאלך וגאלתיך אנכי חי יהוה שכבי עד הבקר
αὐλίσθητι τὴν νύκτα, καὶ ἔσται τὸ πρωί, ἐὰν ἀγχιστεύσῃ σε, ἀγαθόν, ἀγχιστευέτω· ἐὰν δὲ μὴ βούληται ἀγχιστεῦσαί σε, ἀγχιστεύσω σε ἐγώ, ζῇ κύριος· κοιμήθητι ἕως πρωί.
Lodge here this night, and in the morning: if he will redeem youⓘ, well, let him redeem; but if he does not wish to redeem you, I will redeem you myself, as the Tetragrammaton livesⓘ; lie down until the morning».

ותשכב מרגלתו מרגלותיו עד הבקר ותקם בטרום בטרם יכיר איש את רעהו ויאמר אל יודע כי באה האשה הגרן
καὶ ἐκοιμήθη πρὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ ἕως πρωί. ἡ δὲ ἀνέστη πρὸ τοῦ ἐπιγνῶναι ἄνδρα τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ· καὶ εἶπεν Βοος Μὴ γνωσθήτω ὅτι ἦλθεν γυνὴ εἰς τὸν ἅλωνα.
And she lay at his feet until the morning, then she arose before a man could recognize his companionⓘ in the dark; and he said: «Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor».

ויאמר הבי המטפחת אשר עליך ואחזי בה ותאחז בה וימד שש שערים וישת עליה ויבא העיר
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Φέρε τὸ περίζωμα τὸ ἐπάνω σου. καὶ ἐκράτησεν αὐτό, καὶ ἐμέτρησεν ἓξ κριθῶν καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ἐπ’ αὐτήν· καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὴν πόλιν.
And he said: «Hold out the cloakⓘ you are wearing and hold it tight»; and she held it, and he measured six measures of barleyⓘ and laid it on her shoulders; and he went into the city.

ותבוא אל חמותה ותאמר מי את בתי ותגד לה את כל אשר עשה לה האיש
καὶ Ρουθ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς τὴν πενθερὰν αὐτῆς· ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Τίς εἶ, θύγατερ· καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ πάντα, ὅσα ἐποίησεν αὐτῇ ὁ ἀνήρ.
And she came to her mother-in-law, who said to her: «How did it go, my daughter?». And she told her all that the man had done for her,

ותאמר שש השערים האלה נתן לי כי אמר אלי אל תבואי ריקם אל חמותך
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Τὰ ἓξ τῶν κριθῶν ταῦτα ἔδωκέν μοι, ὅτι εἶπεν πρός με Μὴ εἰσέλθῃς κενὴ πρὸς τὴν πενθεράν σου.
and said: «These six measures of barley he gave me, for he said to me: Do not return empty-handedⓘ to your mother-in-law».

ותאמר שבי בתי עד אשר תדעין איך יפל דבר כי לא ישקט האיש כי אם כלה הדבר היום
ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Κάθου, θύγατερ, ἕως τοῦ ἐπιγνῶναί σε πῶς οὐ πεσεῖται ῥῆμα· οὐ γὰρ μὴ ἡσυχάσῃ ὁ ἀνήρ, ἕως ἂν τελέσῃ τὸ ῥῆμα σήμερον.
And Noʿomì said: «Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will fallⓘ: for that man will not rest until he has settled the matter today».
