ודריוש מדיא קבל מלכותא כבר שנין שתין ותרתין
καὶ Ἀρταξέρξης ὁ τῶν Μήδων παρέλαβε τὴν βασιλείαν. Καὶ Δαρεῖος πλήρης τῶν ἡμερῶν καὶ ἔνδοξος ἐν γήρει·
And Darius the Medeⓘ received the kingdom, when he was about sixty-two years oldⓘ.

שפר קדם דריוש והקים על מלכותא לאחשדרפניא מאה ועשרין די להון בכל מלכותא
καὶ κατέστησε σατράπας ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι ἑπτὰ ἐπὶ πάσης τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ
It seemed good to Darius to appoint over the kingdom one hundred and twenty satrapsⓘ, so that they should be over the whole kingdom,

ועלא מנהון סרכין תלתא די דניאל חד מנהון די להון אחשדרפניא אלין יהבין להון טעמא ומלכא לא להוא נזק
καὶ ἐπ’ αὐτῶν ἄνδρας τρεῖς ἡγουμένους αὐτῶν, καὶ Δανιηλ εἷς ἦν τῶν τριῶν ἀνδρῶν
and over them three overseersⓘ, of whom Daniel was one: to these the satraps gave account, so that the king might suffer no lossⓘ.

אדין דניאל דנה הוא מתנצח על סרכיא ואחשדרפניא כל קבל די רוח יתירא בה ומלכא עשית להקמותה על כל מלכותא
ὑπὲρ πάντας ἔχων ἐξουσίαν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ. καὶ Δανιηλ ἦν ἐνδεδυμένος πορφύραν καὶ μέγας καὶ ἔνδοξος ἔναντι Δαρείου τοῦ βασιλέως, καθότι ἦν ἔνδοξος καὶ ἐπιστήμων καὶ συνετός, καὶ πνεῦμα ἅγιον ἐν αὐτῷ, καὶ εὐοδούμενος ἐν ταῖς πραγματείαις τοῦ βασιλέως, αἷς ἔπρασσε. τότε ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐβουλεύσατο καταστῆσαι τὸν Δανιηλ ἐπὶ πάσης τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς δύο ἄνδρας, οὓς κατέστησε μετ’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ σατράπας ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι ἑπτά.
Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the overseers and the satraps, because in him was an extraordinary spiritⓘ, and the king planned to appoint him over the whole kingdom.

אדין סרכיא ואחשדרפניא הוו בעין עלה להשכחה לדניאל מצד מלכותא וכל עלה ושחיתה לא יכלין להשכחה כל קבל די מהימן הוא וכל שלו ושחיתה לא השתכחת עלוהי
ὅτε δὲ ἐβουλεύσατο ὁ βασιλεὺς καταστῆσαι τὸν Δανιηλ ἐπὶ πάσης τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ, τότε βουλὴν καὶ γνώμην ἐβουλεύσαντο ἐν ἑαυτοῖς οἱ δύο νεανίσκοι πρὸς ἀλλήλους λέγοντες, ἐπεὶ οὐδεμίαν ἁμαρτίαν οὐδὲ ἄγνοιαν ηὕρισκον κατὰ τοῦ Δανιηλ περὶ ἧς κατηγορήσουσιν αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα,
Then the overseers and the satraps sought to find a pretext against Daniel concerning the kingdom, but no pretext or fault could they find, because he was trustworthyⓘ, and no negligence or fault was found in him.

אדין גבריא אלך אמרין די לא נהשכח לדניאל דנה כל עלא להן השכחנה עלוהי בדת אלהה
καὶ εἶπαν Δεῦτε στήσωμεν ὁρισμὸν καθ’ ἑαυτῶν ὅτι πᾶς ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἀξιώσει ἀξίωμα καὶ οὐ μὴ εὔξηται εὐχὴν ἀπὸ παντὸς θεοῦ ἕως ἡμερῶν τριάκοντα, ἀλλ’ ἢ παρὰ Δαρείου τοῦ βασιλέως· εἰ δὲ μή, ἀποθανεῖται· ἵνα ἡττήσωσι τὸν Δανιηλ ἐναντίον τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ ῥιφῇ εἰς τὸν λάκκον τῶν λεόντων. ᾔδεισαν γὰρ ὅτι Δανιηλ προσεύχεται καὶ δεῖται κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ αὐτοῦ τρὶς τῆς ἡμέρας.
Then those men said: We shall find no pretext against this Daniel, unless we find it concerning the law of his Godⓘ.

אדין סרכיא ואחשדרפניא אלן הרגשו על מלכא וכן אמרין לה דריוש מלכא לעלמין חיי
τότε προσήλθοσαν οἱ ἄνθρωποι ἐκεῖνοι καὶ εἶπαν ἐναντίον τοῦ βασιλέως
Then the overseers and the satraps thronged in tumultⓘ before the king and thus spoke to him: O King Darius, live forever!

אתיעטו כל סרכי מלכותא סגניא ואחשדרפניא הדבריא ופחותא לקימה קים מלכא ולתקפה אסר די כל די יבעה בעו מן כל אלה ואנש עד יומין תלתין להן מנך מלכא יתרמא לגב אריותא
Ὁρισμὸν καὶ στάσιν ἐστήσαμεν ὅτι πᾶς ἄνθρωπος, ὃς ἂν εὔξηται εὐχὴν ἢ ἀξιώσῃ ἀξίωμά τι παρὰ παντὸς θεοῦ ἕως ἡμερῶν τριάκοντα ἀλλ’ ἢ παρὰ Δαρείου τοῦ βασιλέως, ῥιφήσεται εἰς τὸν λάκκον τῶν λεόντων.
All the overseers of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the counsellors and the governors, have deliberated to issue a royal edict and to make firm an interdictⓘ: whoever for thirty days addresses a request to any god or man except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lionsⓘ.

כען מלכא תקים אסרא ותרשם כתבא די לא להשניה כדת מדי ופרס די לא תעדא
καὶ ἠξίωσαν τὸν βασιλέα ἵνα στήσῃ τὸν ὁρισμὸν καὶ μὴ ἀλλοιώσῃ αὐτόν, διότι ᾔδεισαν ὅτι Δανιηλ προσεύχεται καὶ δεῖται τρὶς τῆς ἡμέρας, ἵνα ἡττηθῇ διὰ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ῥιφῇ εἰς τὸν λάκκον τῶν λεόντων.
Now, O king, establish the interdict and sign the document, so that it may not be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which is not repealedⓘ.

כל קבל דנה מלכא דריוש רשם כתבא ואסרא
καὶ οὕτως ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαρεῖος ἔστησε καὶ ἐκύρωσεν.
Therefore King Darius signed the document and the interdict.

ודניאל כדי ידע די רשים כתבא על לביתה וכוין פתיחן לה בעליתה נגד ירושלם וזמנין תלתה ביומא הוא ברך על ברכוהי ומצלא ומודא קדם אלהה כל קבל די הוא עבד מן קדמת דנה
ἐπιγνοὺς δὲ Δανιηλ τὸν ὁρισμόν, ὃν ἔστησε κατ’ αὐτοῦ, θυρίδας ἤνοιξεν ἐν τῷ ὑπερῴῳ αὐτοῦ κατέναντι Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἔπιπτεν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ τρὶς τῆς ἡμέρας, καθὼς ἐποίει ἔμπροσθεν, καὶ ἐδεῖτο.
And Daniel, when he learned that the document had been signed, went up to his house — and the windows of his upper chamber were open toward Jerusalemⓘ — and three times a dayⓘ he knelt on his knees, prayed, and gave thanksⓘ before his God, as he had done before.

אדין גבריא אלך הרגשו והשכחו לדניאל בעא ומתחנן קדם אלהה
καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐτήρησαν τὸν Δανιηλ καὶ κατελάβοσαν αὐτὸν εὐχόμενον τρὶς τῆς ἡμέρας καθ’ ἑκάστην ἡμέραν.
Then those men thronged together and found Daniel praying and making supplicationⓘ before his God.

באדין קריבו ואמרין קדם מלכא על אסר מלכא הלא אסר רשמת די כל אנש די יבעה מן כל אלה ואנש עד יומין תלתין להן מנך מלכא יתרמא לגוב אריותא ענה מלכא ואמר יציבא מלתא כדת מדי ופרס די לא תעדא
a καὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ Ὁρκίζομέν σε τοῖς Μήδων καὶ Περσῶν δόγμασιν, ἵνα μὴ ἀλλοιώσῃς τὸ πρόσταγμα μηδὲ θαυμάσῃς πρόσωπον καὶ ἵνα μὴ ἐλαττώσῃς τι τῶν εἰρημένων καὶ κολάσῃς τὸν ἄνθρωπον, ὃς οὐκ ἐνέμεινε τῷ ὁρισμῷ τούτῳ. καὶ εἶπεν Οὕτως ποιήσω καθὼς λέγετε, καὶ ἕστηκέ μοι τοῦτο.
Then they approached and said before the king regarding the royal interdict: Did you not sign an interdict, that whoever for thirty days addresses a request to any god or man except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said: The thing stands firm, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which is not repealed.

באדין ענו ואמרין קדם מלכא די דניאל די מן בני גלותא די יהוד לא שם עליך עלך מלכא טעם ועל אסרא די רשמת וזמנין תלתה ביומא בעא בעותה
καὶ εἶπαν Ἰδοὺ εὕρομεν Δανιηλ τὸν φίλον σου εὐχόμενον καὶ δεόμενον τοῦ προσώπου τοῦ θεοῦ αὐτοῦ τρὶς τῆς ἡμέρας.
Then they answered and said before the king: Daniel, of the exiles of Judahⓘ, has shown no regard for you, O king, nor for the interdict you signed: three times a day he makes his prayer.

אדין מלכא כדי מלתא שמע שגיא באש עלוהי ועל דניאל שם בל לשיזבותה ועד מעלי שמשא הוא משתדר להצלותה
καὶ λυπούμενος ὁ βασιλεὺς εἶπεν ῥιφῆναι τὸν Δανιηλ εἰς τὸν λάκκον τῶν λεόντων κατὰ τὸν ὁρισμόν, ὃν ἔστησε κατ’ αὐτοῦ. τότε ὁ βασιλεὺς σφόδρα ἐλυπήθη ἐπὶ τῷ Δανιηλ καὶ ἐβοήθει τοῦ ἐξελέσθαι αὐτὸν ἕως δυσμῶν ἡλίου ἀπὸ τῶν χειρῶν τῶν σατραπῶν
Then the king, when he heard this matter, was greatly distressedⓘ and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him, and until the setting of the sun he laboured to rescue him.

באדין גבריא אלך הרגשו על מלכא ואמרין למלכא דע מלכא די דת למדי ופרס די כל אסר וקים די מלכא יהקים לא להשניה
καὶ οὐκ ἠδύνατο ἐξελέσθαι αὐτὸν ἀπ’ αὐτῶν.
Then those men thronged before the king and said to him: Know, O king, that it is the law of the Medes and Persians that every interdict and decree that the king establishes cannot be changed.

באדין מלכא אמר והיתיו לדניאל ורמו לגבא די אריותא ענה מלכא ואמר לדניאל אלהך די אנתה אנת פלח לה בתדירא הוא ישיזבנך
ἀναβοήσας δὲ Δαρεῖος ὁ βασιλεὺς εἶπε τῷ Δανιηλ Ὁ θεός σου, ᾧ σὺ λατρεύεις ἐνδελεχῶς τρὶς τῆς ἡμέρας, αὐτὸς ἐξελεῖταί σε ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν λεόντων· ἕως πρωῒ θάρρει.
Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. The king began to say to Daniel: Your God, whom you serve continuallyⓘ, may he himself deliver you!

והיתית אבן חדה ושמת על פם גבא וחתמה מלכא בעזקתה ובעזקת רברבנוהי די לא תשנא צבו בדניאל
τότε Δανιηλ ἐρρίφη εἰς τὸν λάκκον τῶν λεόντων, καὶ ἠνέχθη λίθος καὶ ἐτέθη εἰς τὸ στόμα τοῦ λάκκου, καὶ ἐσφραγίσατο ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν τῷ δακτυλίῳ ἑαυτοῦ καὶ ἐν τοῖς δακτυλίοις τῶν μεγιστάνων αὐτοῦ, ὅπως μὴ ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ἀρθῇ ὁ Δανιηλ ἢ ὁ βασιλεὺς αὐτὸν ἀνασπάσῃ ἐκ τοῦ λάκκου.
And a stone was brought and placed upon the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his signet ringⓘ and with the signet rings of his nobles, so that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.

אדין אזל מלכא להיכלה ובת טות ודחון לא הנעל קדמוהי ושנתה נדת עלוהי
τότε ὑπέστρεψεν ὁ βασιλεὺς εἰς τὰ βασίλεια αὐτοῦ καὶ ηὐλίσθη νῆστις καὶ ἦν λυπούμενος περὶ τοῦ Δανιηλ. τότε ὁ θεὸς τοῦ Δανιηλ πρόνοιαν ποιούμενος αὐτοῦ ἀπέκλεισε τὰ στόματα τῶν λεόντων, καὶ οὐ παρηνώχλησαν τῷ Δανιηλ.
Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fastingⓘ, and no diversions were brought before himⓘ, and sleep fled from him.

באדין מלכא בשפרפרא יקום בנגהא ובהתבהלה לגבא די אריותא אזל
καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαρεῖος ὤρθρισε πρωῒ καὶ παρέλαβε μεθ’ ἑαυτοῦ τοὺς σατράπας καὶ πορευθεὶς ἔστη ἐπὶ τοῦ στόματος τοῦ λάκκου τῶν λεόντων.
Then the king, at dawn, arose at the first lightⓘ and in great haste went to the den of lions.

וכמקרבה לגבא לדניאל בקל עציב זעק ענה מלכא ואמר לדניאל דניאל עבד אלהא חיא אלהך די אנתה אנת פלח לה בתדירא היכל לשיזבותך מן אריותא
τότε ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐκάλεσε τὸν Δανιηλ φωνῇ μεγάλῃ μετὰ κλαυθμοῦ λέγων Ὦ Δανιηλ, εἰ ἄρα ζῇς, καὶ ὁ θεός σου, ᾧ λατρεύεις ἐνδελεχῶς, σέσωκέ σε ἀπὸ τῶν λεόντων, καὶ οὐκ ἠχρείωκάν σε;
And as he drew near to the den, he cried out to Daniel with a grievedⓘ voice; the king began to say to Daniel: Daniel, servant of the living Godⓘ, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?

אדין דניאל עם מלכא מלל מלכא לעלמין חיי
τότε Δανιηλ ἐπήκουσε φωνῇ μεγάλῃ καὶ εἶπεν Βασιλεῦ, ἔτι εἰμὶ ζῶν,
Then Daniel spoke with the king: O king, live forever!

אלהי שלח מלאכה וסגר פם אריותא ולא חבלוני כל קבל די קדמוהי זכו השתכחת לי ואף קדמיך קדמך מלכא חבולה לא עבדת
καὶ σέσωκέ με ὁ θεὸς ἀπὸ τῶν λεόντων, καθότι δικαιοσύνη ἐν ἐμοὶ εὑρέθη ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐναντίον δὲ σοῦ, βασιλεῦ, οὔτε ἄγνοια οὔτε ἁμαρτία εὑρέθη ἐν ἐμοί· σὺ δὲ ἤκουσας ἀνθρώπων πλανώντων βασιλεῖς καὶ ἔρριψάς με εἰς τὸν λάκκον τῶν λεόντων εἰς ἀπώλειαν.
My God has sent his angelⓘ and has shut the jaws of the lions, and they have done me no harm, because innocenceⓘ was found in me before him; and also before you, O king, I have committed no offence.

באדין מלכא שגיא טאב עלוהי ולדניאל אמר להנסקה מן גבא והסק דניאל מן גבא וכל חבל לא השתכח בה די הימן באלהה
τότε συνήχθησαν πᾶσαι αἱ δυνάμεις καὶ εἶδον τὸν Δανιηλ, ὡς οὐ παρηνώχλησαν αὐτῷ οἱ λέοντες.
Then the king was exceedingly glad and commanded that Daniel be brought up from the den; and Daniel was brought up from the den, and no harm was found in him, because he had trustedⓘ.

ואמר מלכא והיתיו גבריא אלך די אכלו קרצוהי די דניאל ולגב אריותא רמו אנון בניהון ונשיהון ולא מטו לארעית גבא עד די שלטו בהון אריותא וכל גרמיהון הדקו
τότε οἱ δύο ἄνθρωποι ἐκεῖνοι οἱ καταμαρτυρήσαντες τοῦ Δανιηλ, αὐτοὶ καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν, ἐρρίφησαν τοῖς λέουσι, καὶ οἱ λέοντες ἀπέκτειναν αὐτοὺς καὶ ἔθλασαν τὰ ὀστᾶ αὐτῶν.
And the king commanded, and those men who had accusedⓘ Daniel were brought, and they were cast into the den of lions, they, their children, and their wives; and they had not yet reached the bottom of the den when the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bonesⓘ.

באדין דריוש מלכא כתב לכל עממיא אמיא ולשניא די דארין דירין בכל ארעא שלמכון ישגא
τότε Δαρεῖος ἔγραψε πᾶσι τοῖς ἔθνεσι καὶ χώραις καὶ γλώσσαις, τοῖς οἰκοῦσιν ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ αὐτοῦ λέγων
Then King Darius wrote to all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell on all the earth: May your peaceⓘ be multiplied!

מן קדמי שים טעם די בכל שלטן מלכותי להון זאעין זיעין ודחלין מן קדם אלהה די דניאל די הוא אלהא חיא וקים לעלמין ומלכותה די לא תתחבל ושלטנה עד סופא
Πάντες οἱ ἄνθρωποι οἱ ὄντες ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ μου ἔστωσαν προσκυνοῦντες καὶ λατρεύοντες τῷ θεῷ τοῦ Δανιηλ, αὐτὸς γάρ ἐστι θεὸς μένων καὶ ζῶν εἰς γενεὰς γενεῶν ἕως τοῦ αἰῶνος·
From me a decreeⓘ is issued: that in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, because he is the living Godⓘ and endures forever, and his kingdom shall not be destroyedⓘ and his dominion shall last to the end.
28
משיזב ומצל ועבד אתין ותמהין בשמיא ובארעא די שיזיב לדניאל מן יד אריותא
ἐγὼ Δαρεῖος ἔσομαι αὐτῷ προσκυνῶν καὶ δουλεύων πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας μου, τὰ γὰρ εἴδωλα τὰ χειροποίητα οὐ δύνανται σῶσαι, ὡς ἐλυτρώσατο ὁ θεὸς τοῦ Δανιηλ τὸν Δανιηλ.
He saves and deliversⓘ, and works signs and wondersⓘ in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the paw of the lionsⓘ.
29
ודניאל דנה הצלח במלכות דריוש ובמלכות כורש פרסיא פרסאה
καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαρεῖος προσετέθη πρὸς τὸ γένος αὐτοῦ, καὶ Δανιηλ κατεστάθη ἐπὶ τῆς βασιλείας Δαρείου· καὶ Κῦρος ὁ Πέρσης παρέλαβε τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ.
And this Daniel prosperedⓘ in the kingdom of Darius and in the kingdom of Cyrus the Persianⓘ.
