בשנת שלוש לכורש מלך פרס דבר נגלה לדניאל אשר נקרא שמו בלטשאצר ואמת הדבר וצבא גדול ובין את הדבר ובינה לו במראה
Ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῷ πρώτῳ Κύρου τοῦ βασιλέως Περσῶν πρόσταγμα ἐδείχθη τῷ Δανιηλ, ὃς ἐπεκλήθη τὸ ὄνομα Βαλτασαρ, καὶ ἀληθὲς τὸ ὅραμα καὶ τὸ πρόσταγμα, καὶ τὸ πλῆθος τὸ ἰσχυρὸν διανοηθήσεται τὸ πρόσταγμα, καὶ διενοήθην αὐτὸ ἐν ὁράματι.
In the third year of Kòreshⓘ, king of Persia, a word was revealed to Daniyèlⓘ, whose name was called Beltshatzàrⓘ; and true was the word, and great the army. He understood the word, and the understanding of it came to him in a vision.

בימים ההם אני דניאל הייתי מתאבל שלשה שבעים ימים
ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις ἐγὼ Δανιηλ ἤμην πενθῶν τρεῖς ἑβδομάδας·
In those days I, Daniyèl, was in mourningⓘ for three full weeks;

לחם חמדות לא אכלתי ובשר ויין לא בא אל פי וסוך לא סכתי עד מלאת שלשת שבעים ימים
ἄρτον ἐπιθυμιῶν οὐκ ἔφαγον, καὶ κρέας καὶ οἶνος οὐκ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸ στόμα μου, ἔλαιον οὐκ ἠλειψάμην ἕως τοῦ συντελέσαι με τὰς τρεῖς ἑβδομάδας τῶν ἡμερῶν.
I ate no pleasant bread, and neither meat nor wine came to my mouth, and I did not anoint myself with oil at all, until the three weeks of days were completed.

וביום עשרים וארבעה לחדש הראשון ואני הייתי על יד הנהר הגדול הוא חדקל
καὶ ἐγένετο τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τετάρτῃ καὶ εἰκάδι τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ πρώτου, καὶ ἐγὼ ἤμην ἐπὶ τοῦ χείλους τοῦ ποταμοῦ τοῦ μεγάλου, ὅς ἐστι Τίγρης,
And on the twenty-fourth day of the first month I was on the bank of the great river, which is the Chiddèqelⓘ.

ואשא את עיני וארא והנה איש אחד לבוש בדים ומתניו חגרים בכתם אופז
καὶ ἦρα τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς μου καὶ εἶδον καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνθρωπος εἷς ἐνδεδυμένος βύσσινα καὶ τὴν ὀσφὺν περιεζωσμένος βυσσίνῳ, καὶ ἐκ μέσου αὐτοῦ φῶς,
I lifted my eyes and looked: and behold, a man alone, clothed in linenⓘ, with his loins girded with gold of Ufàzⓘ;

וגויתו כתרשיש ופניו כמראה ברק ועיניו כלפידי אש וזרעתיו ומרגלתיו כעין נחשת קלל וקול דבריו כקול המון
καὶ τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ θαρσις, καὶ τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ ὅρασις ἀστραπῆς, καὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ λαμπάδες πυρός, καὶ οἱ βραχίονες αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ πόδες ὡσεὶ χαλκὸς ἐξαστράπτων, καὶ φωνὴ λαλιᾶς αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ φωνὴ θορύβου.
and his body like tarshìshⓘ, and his face like the appearance of lightning, and his eyes like torches of fire, and his arms and his feet like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the roar of a multitude.

וראיתי אני דניאל לבדי את המראה והאנשים אשר היו עמי לא ראו את המראה אבל חרדה גדלה נפלה עליהם ויברחו בהחבא
καὶ εἶδον ἐγὼ Δανιηλ τὴν ὅρασιν τὴν μεγάλην ταύτην, καὶ οἱ ἄνθρωποι οἱ ὄντες μετ’ ἐμοῦ οὐκ εἴδοσαν τὴν ὅρασιν ταύτην, καὶ φόβος ἰσχυρὸς ἐπέπεσεν ἐπ’ αὐτούς, καὶ ἀπέδρασαν ἐν σπουδῇ·
And I, Daniyèl, alone saw this vision, while the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great terrorⓘ fell upon them and they fled to hide themselves.

ואני נשארתי לבדי ואראה את המראה הגדלה הזאת ולא נשאר בי כח והודי נהפך עלי למשחית ולא עצרתי כח
καὶ ἐγὼ κατελείφθην μόνος καὶ εἶδον τὴν ὅρασιν τὴν μεγάλην ταύτην, καὶ οὐκ ἐ[γ]κατελείφθη ἐν ἐμοὶ ἰσχύς, καὶ ἰδοὺ πνεῦμα ἐπεστράφη ἐπ’ ἐμὲ εἰς φθοράν, καὶ οὐ κατίσχυσα.
And I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; my comeliness was turned upon me into corruption, and I retained no strength.

ואשמע את קול דבריו וכשמעי את קול דבריו ואני הייתי נרדם על פני ופני ארצה
καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσα τὴν φωνὴν λαλιᾶς αὐτοῦ, ἐγὼ ἤμην πεπτωκὼς ἐπὶ πρόσωπόν μου ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.
And I heard the sound of his words; and when I heard the sound of his words I fell into a stuporⓘ with my face to the ground, and my face toward the earth.

והנה יד נגעה בי ותניעני על ברכי וכפות ידי
καὶ ἰδοὺ χεῖρα προσήγαγέ μοι καὶ ἤγειρέ με ἐπὶ τῶν γονάτων ἐπὶ τὰ ἴχνη τῶν ποδῶν μου.
And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.

ויאמר אלי דניאל איש חמדות הבן בדברים אשר אנכי דבר אליך ועמד על עמדך כי עתה שלחתי אליך ובדברו עמי את הדבר הזה עמדתי מרעיד
καὶ εἶπέν μοι Δανιηλ, ἄνθρωπος ἐλεεινὸς εἶ· διανοήθητι τοῖς προστάγμασιν, οἷς ἐγὼ λαλῶ ἐπὶ σέ, καὶ στῆθι ἐπὶ τοῦ τόπου σου, ἄρτι γὰρ ἀπεστάλην ἐπὶ σέ. καὶ ἐν τῷ λαλῆσαι αὐτὸν μετ’ ἐμοῦ τὸ πρόσταγμα τοῦτο ἔστην τρέμων.
And he said to me: Daniyèl, man greatly belovedⓘ, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright in your place, for I have now been sent to you. And while he spoke this word to me, I stood up trembling.

ויאמר אלי אל תירא דניאל כי מן היום הראשון אשר נתת את לבך להבין ולהתענות לפני אלהיך נשמעו דבריך ואני באתי בדבריך
καὶ εἶπεν πρός με Μὴ φοβοῦ, Δανιηλ· ὅτι ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας τῆς πρώτης, ἧς ἔδωκας τὸ πρόσωπόν σου διανοηθῆναι καὶ ταπεινωθῆναι ἐναντίον κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ σου, εἰσηκούσθη τὸ ῥῆμά σου, καὶ ἐγὼ εἰσῆλθον [ἐν] τῷ ῥήματί σου.
And he said to me: Do not fear, Daniyèl, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourselfⓘ before your God, your words were heard, and I have come because of your words.

ושר מלכות פרס עמד לנגדי עשרים ואחד יום והנה מיכאל אחד השרים הראשנים בא לעזרני ואני נותרתי שם אצל מלכי פרס
καὶ ὁ στρατηγὸς βασιλέως Περσῶν ἀνθειστήκει ἐναντίον μου εἴκοσι καὶ μίαν ἡμέραν, καὶ ἰδοὺ Μιχαηλ εἷς τῶν ἀρχόντων τῶν πρώτων ἐπῆλθε βοηθῆσαί μοι, καὶ αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ κατέλιπον μετὰ τοῦ στρατηγοῦ τοῦ βασιλέως Περσῶν.
But the princeⓘ of the kingdom of Persia withstood me for twenty-one days; and behold, Mikhaèlⓘ, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

ובאתי להבינך את אשר יקרה לעמך באחרית הימים כי עוד חזון לימים
καὶ εἶπέν μοι Ἦλθον ὑποδεῖξαί σοι τί ὑπαντήσεται τῷ λαῷ σου ἐπ’ ἐσχάτου τῶν ἡμερῶν, ἔτι γὰρ ὅρασις εἰς ἡμέρας.
And I have come to make you understand what will befall your people in the latter daysⓘ, for the vision is yet for many days.

ובדברו עמי כדברים האלה נתתי פני ארצה ונאלמתי
καὶ ἐν τῷ αὐτὸν λαλῆσαι μετ’ ἐμοῦ τὰ προστάγματα ταῦτα ἔδωκα τὸ πρόσωπόν μου ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ ἐσιώπησα.
And while he was speaking these words to me, I turned my face toward the ground and became muteⓘ.

והנה כדמות בני אדם נגע על שפתי ואפתח פי ואדברה ואמרה אל העמד לנגדי אדני במראה נהפכו צירי עלי ולא עצרתי כח
καὶ ἰδοὺ ὡς ὁμοίωσις χειρὸς ἀνθρώπου ἥψατό μου τῶν χειλέων· καὶ ἤνοιξα τὸ στόμα μου καὶ ἐλάλησα καὶ εἶπα τῷ ἑστηκότι ἀπέναντί μου Κύριε, καὶ ὡς ὅρασις ἀπεστράφη ἐπὶ τὸ πλευρόν μου ἐπ’ ἐμέ, καὶ οὐκ ἦν ἐν ἐμοὶ ἰσχύς·
And behold, one with the likeness of sons of manⓘ touched my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke, and said to him who stood before me: My lord, because of the vision my anguish has turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.

והיך יוכל עבד אדני זה לדבר עם אדני זה ואני מעתה לא יעמד בי כח ונשמה לא נשארה בי
καὶ πῶς δυνήσεται ὁ παῖς λαλῆσαι μετὰ τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ; καὶ ἐγὼ ἠσθένησα, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν ἐμοὶ ἰσχύς, καὶ πνεῦμα οὐ κατελείφθη ἐν ἐμοί.
And how can the servant of this my lord speak with this my lord? As for me, from this moment no strength remains in me, and no breath is left in me.

ויסף ויגע בי כמראה אדם ויחזקני
καὶ προσέθηκε καὶ ἥψατό μου ὡς ὅρασις ἀνθρώπου καὶ κατίσχυσέ με
And again one with the appearance of a man touched me and strengthened me,
19
ויאמר אל תירא איש חמדות שלום לך חזק וחזק ובדברו עמי התחזקתי ואמרה ידבר אדני כי חזקתני
καὶ εἶπέ μοι Ἄνθρωπος ἐλεεινὸς εἶ, μὴ φοβοῦ, ὑγίαινε· ἀνδρίζου καὶ ἴσχυε. καὶ ἐν τῷ λαλῆσαι αὐτὸν μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἴσχυσα καὶ εἶπα Λαλησάτω ὁ κύριός μου, ὅτι ἐνίσχυσέ με.
and said: Do not fear, man greatly beloved, peace be to you! Be strong, be strong! And while he spoke with me, I recovered strength and said: Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.

ויאמר הידעת למה באתי אליך ועתה אשוב להלחם עם שר פרס ואני יוצא והנה שר יון בא
καὶ εἶπεν πρός με Γινώσκεις τί ἦλθον πρὸς σέ; καὶ νῦν ἐπιστρέψω διαμάχεσθαι μετὰ τοῦ στρατηγοῦ βασιλέως τῶν Περσῶν· καὶ ἐγὼ ἐξεπορευόμην, καὶ ἰδοὺ στρατηγὸς Ἑλλήνων εἰσεπορεύετο.
Then he said: Do you know why I have come to you? And now I will return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of Iavànⓘ will come.

אבל אגיד לך את הרשום בכתב אמת ואין אחד מתחזק עמי על אלה כי אם מיכאל שרכם
καὶ μάλα ὑποδείξω σοι τὰ πρῶτα ἐν ἀπογραφῇ ἀληθείας, καὶ οὐθεὶς ἦν ὁ βοηθῶν μετ’ ἐμοῦ ὑπὲρ τούτων ἀλλ’ ἢ Μιχαηλ ὁ ἄγγελος·
But truly I will declare to you what is inscribed in the Writing of Truthⓘ; and there is no one who holds firmly with me against these, except Mikhaèl, your princeⓘ.
