אחר הדברים האלה כשך חמת המלך אחשורוש זכר את ושתי ואת אשר עשתה ואת אשר נגזר עליה
Καὶ μετὰ τοὺς λόγους τούτους ἐκόπασεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῦ θυμοῦ καὶ οὐκέτι ἐμνήσθη τῆς Αστιν μνημονεύων οἷα ἐλάλησεν καὶ ὡς κατέκρινεν αὐτήν.
After these things, when the wrath of King Achashveròshⓘ had abated, he remembered Vashtìⓘ — what she had done and what had been decreed against her.

ויאמרו נערי המלך משרתיו יבקשו למלך נערות בתולות טובות מראה
καὶ εἶπαν οἱ διάκονοι τοῦ βασιλέως Ζητηθήτω τῷ βασιλεῖ κοράσια ἄφθορα καλὰ τῷ εἴδει·
Then the king's young men, his servants, said: Let virginⓘ maidens, fair of appearance, be sought for the king;

ויפקד המלך פקידים בכל מדינות מלכותו ויקבצו את כל נערה בתולה טובת מראה אל שושן הבירה אל בית הנשים אל יד הגא סריס המלך שמר הנשים ונתון תמרוקיהן
καὶ καταστήσει ὁ βασιλεὺς κωμάρχας ἐν πάσαις ταῖς χώραις τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπιλεξάτωσαν κοράσια παρθενικὰ καλὰ τῷ εἴδει εἰς Σουσαν τὴν πόλιν εἰς τὸν γυναικῶνα, καὶ παραδοθήτωσαν τῷ εὐνούχῳ τοῦ βασιλέως τῷ φύλακι τῶν γυναικῶν, καὶ δοθήτω σμῆγμα καὶ ἡ λοιπὴ ἐπιμέλεια·
and let the king appoint commissionersⓘ in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather every fair virgin maiden to Susa the fortressⓘ, into the haremⓘ, under the hand of Hegàiⓘ, the king's eunuch, keeper of the women; and let their ointmentsⓘ be given to them.

והנערה אשר תיטב בעיני המלך תמלך תחת ושתי וייטב הדבר בעיני המלך ויעש כן
καὶ ἡ γυνή, ἣ ἂν ἀρέσῃ τῷ βασιλεῖ, βασιλεύσει ἀντὶ Αστιν. καὶ ἤρεσεν τῷ βασιλεῖ τὸ πρᾶγμα, καὶ ἐποίησεν οὕτως.
And the maiden who pleases the king shall reign in place of Vashtì. The matter pleased the king, and he did so.

איש יהודי היה בשושן הבירה ושמו מרדכי בן יאיר בן שמעי בן קיש איש ימיני
Καὶ ἄνθρωπος ἦν Ιουδαῖος ἐν Σούσοις τῇ πόλει, καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῷ Μαρδοχαῖος ὁ τοῦ Ιαιρου τοῦ Σεμειου τοῦ Κισαιου ἐκ φυλῆς Βενιαμιν,
Now there was at Susa the fortress a Jewishⓘ man named Mordekàiⓘ, son of Yaìr, son of Shimʿì, son of Qishⓘ, a Benjaminiteⓘ;

אשר הגלה מירושלים עם הגלה אשר הגלתה עם יכניה מלך יהודה אשר הגלה נבוכדנאצר מלך בבל
ὃς ἦν αἰχμάλωτος ἐξ Ιερουσαλημ, ἣν ᾐχμαλώτευσεν Ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος.
who had been carried away from Yerushalàim with the deportationⓘ that had been exiled together with Yekhonyàhⓘ king of Judah, whom Nevukhadnetzàrⓘ king of Babylon had carried away.

ויהי אמן את הדסה היא אסתר בת דדו כי אין לה אב ואם והנערה יפת תאר וטובת מראה ובמות אביה ואמה לקחה מרדכי לו לבת
καὶ ἦν τούτῳ παῖς θρεπτή, θυγάτηρ Αμιναδαβ ἀδελφοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῇ Εσθηρ· ἐν δὲ τῷ μεταλλάξαι αὐτῆς τοὺς γονεῖς ἐπαίδευσεν αὐτὴν ἑαυτῷ εἰς γυναῖκα· καὶ ἦν τὸ κοράσιον καλὸν τῷ εἴδει.
He was raisingⓘ Hadassàhⓘ, that is Estèrⓘ, the daughter of his uncle, for she had neither father nor mother; the girl was beautiful of form and fair of appearance, and when her father and her mother died, Mordekài had taken her as his own daughter.

ויהי בהשמע דבר המלך ודתו ובהקבץ נערות רבות אל שושן הבירה אל יד הגי ותלקח אסתר אל בית המלך אל יד הגי שמר הנשים
καὶ ὅτε ἠκούσθη τὸ τοῦ βασιλέως πρόσταγμα, συνήχθησαν κοράσια πολλὰ εἰς Σουσαν τὴν πόλιν ὑπὸ χεῖρα Γαι, καὶ ἤχθη Εσθηρ πρὸς Γαι τὸν φύλακα τῶν γυναικῶν.
So when the king's edict and his decree were heard, and many maidens were gathered to Susa the fortress under the hand of Hegài, Estèr also was brought into the king's palace, under the hand of Hegài keeper of the women.

ותיטב הנערה בעיניו ותשא חסד לפניו ויבהל את תמרוקיה ואת מנותה לתת לה ואת שבע הנערות הראיות לתת לה מבית המלך וישנה ואת נערותיה לטוב בית הנשים
καὶ ἤρεσεν αὐτῷ τὸ κοράσιον καὶ εὗρεν χάριν ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔσπευσεν αὐτῇ δοῦναι τὸ σμῆγμα καὶ τὴν μερίδα καὶ τὰ ἑπτὰ κοράσια τὰ ἀποδεδειγμένα αὐτῇ ἐκ βασιλικοῦ καὶ ἐχρήσατο αὐτῇ καλῶς καὶ ταῖς ἅβραις αὐτῆς ἐν τῷ γυναικῶνι·
The girl pleased him and found favorⓘ before him; and he hastened to give her her ointments and her portion of food, and to give her the seven chosen maidens from the king's palace; and he transferred her and her maidens to the best place in the harem.

לא הגידה אסתר את עמה ואת מולדתה כי מרדכי צוה עליה אשר לא תגיד
καὶ οὐχ ὑπέδειξεν Εσθηρ τὸ γένος αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὴν πατρίδα, ὁ γὰρ Μαρδοχαῖος ἐνετείλατο αὐτῇ μὴ ἀπαγγεῖλαι.
Estèr did not reveal her peopleⓘ nor her kindred, for Mordekài had commanded her not to reveal them.

ובכל יום ויום מרדכי מתהלך לפני חצר בית הנשים לדעת את שלום אסתר ומה יעשה בה
καθ’ ἑκάστην δὲ ἡμέραν ὁ Μαρδοχαῖος περιεπάτει κατὰ τὴν αὐλὴν τὴν γυναικείαν ἐπισκοπῶν τί Εσθηρ συμβήσεται.
And every day Mordekài walked before the courtyard of the harem, to learn how Estèr was faring and what was happening to her.

ובהגיע תר נערה ונערה לבוא אל המלך אחשורוש מקץ היות לה כדת הנשים שנים עשר חדש כי כן ימלאו ימי מרוקיהן ששה חדשים בשמן המר וששה חדשים בבשמים ובתמרוקי הנשים
οὗτος δὲ ἦν καιρὸς κορασίου εἰσελθεῖν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα, ὅταν ἀναπληρώσῃ μῆνας δέκα δύο· οὕτως γὰρ ἀναπληροῦνται αἱ ἡμέραι τῆς θεραπείας, μῆνας ἓξ ἀλειφόμεναι ἐν σμυρνίνῳ ἐλαίῳ καὶ μῆνας ἓξ ἐν τοῖς ἀρώμασιν καὶ ἐν τοῖς σμήγμασιν τῶν γυναικῶν,
When the turnⓘ came for each maiden to enter before King Achashveròsh, at the end of twelve months according to the ordinance for the women — for so were the days of their beautification completed: six months with oil of myrrhⓘ, and six months with spices and ointments for women —

ובזה הנערה באה אל המלך את כל אשר תאמר ינתן לה לבוא עמה מבית הנשים עד בית המלך
καὶ τότε εἰσπορεύεται πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα· καὶ ὃ ἐὰν εἴπῃ, παραδώσει αὐτῇ συνεισέρχεσθαι αὐτῇ ἀπὸ τοῦ γυναικῶνος ἕως τῶν βασιλείων.
then the maiden would enter before the king, and everything she asked was given to her to go with her from the harem to the king's palace.

בערב היא באה ובבקר היא שבה אל בית הנשים שני אל יד שעשגז סריס המלך שמר הפילגשים לא תבוא עוד אל המלך כי אם חפץ בה המלך ונקראה בשם
δείλης εἰσπορεύεται καὶ πρὸς ἡμέραν ἀποτρέχει εἰς τὸν γυναικῶνα τὸν δεύτερον, οὗ Γαι ὁ εὐνοῦχος τοῦ βασιλέως ὁ φύλαξ τῶν γυναικῶν, καὶ οὐκέτι εἰσπορεύεται πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα, ἐὰν μὴ κληθῇ ὀνόματι.
In the evening she would enter, and in the morning she would return to the second haremⓘ, under the hand of Shaashgàz, the king's eunuch, keeper of the concubinesⓘ; she would not return to the king unless the king desired her and she was called by name.

ובהגיע תר אסתר בת אביחיל דד מרדכי אשר לקח לו לבת לבוא אל המלך לא בקשה דבר כי אם את אשר יאמר הגי סריס המלך שמר הנשים ותהי אסתר נשאת חן בעיני כל ראיה
ἐν δὲ τῷ ἀναπληροῦσθαι τὸν χρόνον Εσθηρ τῆς θυγατρὸς Αμιναδαβ ἀδελφοῦ πατρὸς Μαρδοχαίου εἰσελθεῖν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα οὐδὲν ἠθέτησεν ὧν αὐτῇ ἐνετείλατο ὁ εὐνοῦχος ὁ φύλαξ τῶν γυναικῶν· ἦν γὰρ Εσθηρ εὑρίσκουσα χάριν παρὰ πάντων τῶν βλεπόντων αὐτήν.
When the turn came for Estèr, daughter of Avichàilⓘ — the uncle of Mordekài, who had taken her as his daughter — to enter before the king, she asked for nothing except what Hegài the king's eunuch, keeper of the women, appointed; and Estèr found favor in the eyes of all who saw her.

ותלקח אסתר אל המלך אחשורוש אל בית מלכותו בחדש העשירי הוא חדש טבת בשנת שבע למלכותו
καὶ εἰσῆλθεν Εσθηρ πρὸς Ἀρταξέρξην τὸν βασιλέα τῷ δωδεκάτῳ μηνί, ὅς ἐστιν Αδαρ, τῷ ἑβδόμῳ ἔτει τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ.
Estèr was brought before King Achashveròsh into his royal palace in the tenth month, which is the month of Tevètⓘ, in the seventh year of his reign.

ויאהב המלך את אסתר מכל הנשים ותשא חן וחסד לפניו מכל הבתולת וישם כתר מלכות בראשה וימליכה תחת ושתי
καὶ ἠράσθη ὁ βασιλεὺς Εσθηρ, καὶ εὗρεν χάριν παρὰ πάσας τὰς παρθένους, καὶ ἐπέθηκεν αὐτῇ τὸ διάδημα τὸ γυναικεῖον.
The king loved Estèr more than all the women, and she found grace and favor before him more than all the other virgins; and he set the royal crownⓘ upon her head and made her queen in place of Vashtì.

ויעש המלך משתה גדול לכל שריו ועבדיו את משתה אסתר והנחה למדינות עשה ויתן משאת כיד המלך
καὶ ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πότον πᾶσι τοῖς φίλοις αὐτοῦ καὶ ταῖς δυνάμεσιν ἐπὶ ἡμέρας ἑπτὰ καὶ ὕψωσεν τοὺς γάμους Εσθηρ καὶ ἄφεσιν ἐποίησεν τοῖς ὑπὸ τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ.
The king made a great banquetⓘ for all his princes and his servants, the banquet of Estèr; he granted a remission to the provinces and gave gifts with royal generosity.

ובהקבץ בתולות שנית ומרדכי ישב בשער המלך
ὁ δὲ Μαρδοχαῖος ἐθεράπευεν ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ.
And when the virgins were gathered a second time, Mordekài sat at the king's gateⓘ.
20
אין אסתר מגדת מולדתה ואת עמה כאשר צוה עליה מרדכי ואת מאמר מרדכי אסתר עשה כאשר היתה באמנה אתו
ἡ δὲ Εσθηρ οὐχ ὑπέδειξεν τὴν πατρίδα αὐτῆς· οὕτως γὰρ ἐνετείλατο αὐτῇ Μαρδοχαῖος φοβεῖσθαι τὸν θεὸν καὶ ποιεῖν τὰ προστάγματα αὐτοῦ, καθὼς ἦν μετ’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ Εσθηρ οὐ μετήλλαξεν τὴν ἀγωγὴν αὐτῆς.
Estèr had not revealed her kindred nor her people, as Mordekài had commanded her; and Estèr continued to follow Mordekài's instructions as when she was under his care.

בימים ההם ומרדכי ישב בשער המלך קצף בגתן ותרש שני סריסי המלך משמרי הסף ויבקשו לשלח יד במלך אחשורש
Καὶ ἐλυπήθησαν οἱ δύο εὐνοῦχοι τοῦ βασιλέως οἱ ἀρχισωματοφύλακες ὅτι προήχθη Μαρδοχαῖος, καὶ ἐζήτουν ἀποκτεῖναι Ἀρταξέρξην τὸν βασιλέα.
In those days, while Mordekài sat at the king's gate, two of the king's eunuchs, Bigtàn and Tèreshⓘ, keepers of the threshold, became angry and sought to lay hands against King Achashveròsh.

ויודע הדבר למרדכי ויגד לאסתר המלכה ותאמר אסתר למלך בשם מרדכי
καὶ ἐδηλώθη Μαρδοχαίῳ ὁ λόγος, καὶ ἐσήμανεν Εσθηρ, καὶ αὐτὴ ἐνεφάνισεν τῷ βασιλεῖ τὰ τῆς ἐπιβουλῆς.
The matter became known to Mordekài, who told it to Queen Estèr, and Estèr told the king in the name of Mordekài.

ויבקש הדבר וימצא ויתלו שניהם על עץ ויכתב בספר דברי הימים לפני המלך
ὁ δὲ βασιλεὺς ἤτασεν τοὺς δύο εὐνούχους καὶ ἐκρέμασεν αὐτούς· καὶ προσέταξεν ὁ βασιλεὺς καταχωρίσαι εἰς μνημόσυνον ἐν τῇ βασιλικῇ βιβλιοθήκῃ ὑπὲρ τῆς εὐνοίας Μαρδοχαίου ἐν ἐγκωμίῳ.
The matter was investigated and found to be true, and the two were hanged on a stakeⓘ; and the thing was written in the book of the Chroniclesⓘ, before the king.
