ויעשו בני ישראל הרע בעיני יהוה ויתנם יהוה ביד מדין שבע שנים
Καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τὸ πονηρὸν ἔναντι κυρίου, καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς κύριος ἐν χειρὶ Μαδιαμ ἔτη ἑπτά.
And the sons of Israel did what is evil in the eyes of the Tetragrammatonⓘ, and the Tetragrammaton delivered them into the hand of Midiànⓘ for seven years.

ותעז יד מדין על ישראל מפני מדין עשו להם בני ישראל את המנהרות אשר בהרים ואת המערות ואת המצדות
καὶ κατίσχυσεν χεὶρ Μαδιαμ ἐπὶ Ισραηλ· καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἀπὸ προσώπου Μαδιαμ μάνδρας ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσιν καὶ τοῖς σπηλαίοις καὶ τοῖς ὀχυρώμασιν.
And the hand of Midiàn lay heavy upon Israel; to escape Midiàn, the sons of Israel cut for themselves clefts in the mountainsⓘ, caves and strongholds.

והיה אם זרע ישראל ועלה מדין ועמלק ובני קדם ועלו עליו
καὶ ἐγένετο ὅταν ἔσπειρεν ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ, καὶ ἀνέβαινεν Μαδιαμ καὶ Αμαληκ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ ἀνατολῶν καὶ ἀνέβαινον ἐπ’ αὐτόν·
And it came to pass that whenever Israel had sown, Midiàn and ʿAmalèq and the sons of the eastⓘ would come up and fall upon them;

ויחנו עליהם וישחיתו את יבול הארץ עד בואך עזה ולא ישאירו מחיה בישראל ושה ושור וחמור
καὶ παρενέβαλλον ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς καὶ διέφθειραν τὰ ἐκφόρια τῆς γῆς ἕως τοῦ ἐλθεῖν εἰς Γάζαν καὶ οὐχ ὑπελείποντο ὑπόστασιν ζωῆς ἐν Ισραηλ καὶ ποίμνιον καὶ μόσχον καὶ ὄνον·
they would encamp against them and destroy the produce of the land as far as the entrance of Gazaⓘ, leaving no sustenance at all in Israel, neither sheep nor ox nor donkey.

כי הם ומקניהם יעלו ואהליהם יבאו ובאו כדי ארבה לרב ולהם ולגמליהם אין מספר ויבאו בארץ לשחתה
ὅτι αὐτοὶ καὶ τὰ κτήνην αὐτῶν ἀνέβαινον καὶ τὰς σκηνὰς αὐτῶν παρέφερον καὶ παρεγίνοντο ὡς ἀκρὶς εἰς πλῆθος, καὶ αὐτοῖς καὶ ταῖς καμήλοις αὐτῶν οὐκ ἦν ἀριθμός, καὶ παρεγίνοντο ἐν τῇ γῇ Ισραηλ τοῦ διαφθείρειν αὐτήν.
For they would come up with their livestock and their tents and arrive like swarms of locustsⓘ, and their camels were without number, and they would enter the land to devastate it.

וידל ישראל מאד מפני מדין ויזעקו בני ישראל אל יהוה
καὶ ἐπτώχευσεν Ισραηλ σφόδρα ἀπὸ προσώπου Μαδιαμ, καὶ ἐκέκραξαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς κύριον.
And Israel was greatly impoverished because of Midiàn, and the sons of Israel cried outⓘ to the Tetragrammaton.

ויהי כי זעקו בני ישראל אל יהוה על אדות מדין
καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπεὶ ἐκέκραξαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς κύριον διὰ Μαδιαμ,
And when the sons of Israel cried out to the Tetragrammaton on account of Midiàn,

וישלח יהוה איש נביא אל בני ישראל ויאמר להם כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל אנכי העליתי אתכם ממצרים ואציא אתכם מבית עבדים
καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν κύριος ἄνδρα προφήτην πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ ἀναβιβάσας ὑμᾶς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἐξήγαγον ὑμᾶς ἐξ οἴκου δουλείας
the Tetragrammaton sent to the sons of Israel a man, a prophetⓘ, who said to them: Thus says the Tetragrammaton, God of Israel: I brought you up from Egypt, I led you out from the house of slavery,

ואצל אתכם מיד מצרים ומיד כל לחציכם ואגרש אותם מפניכם ואתנה לכם את ארצם
καὶ ἐξειλάμην ὑμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς πάντων τῶν θλιβόντων ὑμᾶς καὶ ἐξέβαλον αὐτοὺς ἐκ προσώπου ὑμῶν καὶ ἔδωκα ὑμῖν τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν
and I delivered you from the hand of Egypt and from the hand of all your oppressors, and I drove them out before you and gave you their land;

ואמרה לכם אני יהוה אלהיכם לא תיראו את אלהי האמרי אשר אתם יושבים בארצם ולא שמעתם בקולי
καὶ εἶπα ὑμῖν Ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν, οὐ φοβηθήσεσθε τοὺς θεοὺς τοῦ Αμορραίου, ἐν οἷς ὑμεῖς ἐνοικεῖτε ἐν τῇ γῇ αὐτῶν· καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσατε τῆς φωνῆς μου.
and I said to you: I am the Tetragrammaton your God; do not fear the gods of the Amoriteⓘ in whose land you dwell. But you did not listen to my voice.

ויבא מלאך יהוה וישב תחת האלה אשר בעפרה אשר ליואש אבי העזרי וגדעון בנו חבט חטים בגת להניס מפני מדין
Καὶ ἦλθεν ἄγγελος κυρίου καὶ ἐκάθισεν ὑπὸ τὴν δρῦν τὴν οὖσαν ἐν Εφραθα τὴν τοῦ Ιωας πατρὸς Αβιεζρι, καὶ Γεδεων ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἐρράβδιζεν πυροὺς ἐν ληνῷ τοῦ ἐκφυγεῖν ἐκ προσώπου Μαδιαμ.
And the messenger of the Tetragrammatonⓘ came and sat under the oak of ʿOfrà belonging to Yoàsh the Abiʿezrite, while his son Ghidʿònⓘ was beating wheat in the winepress to hide it from Midiàn.

וירא אליו מלאך יהוה ויאמר אליו יהוה עמך גבור החיל
καὶ ὤφθη αὐτῷ ἄγγελος κυρίου καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν Κύριος μετὰ σοῦ, δυνατὸς τῇ ἰσχύι.
The messenger of the Tetragrammaton appeared to him and said to him: The Tetragrammaton is with you, mighty man of valourⓘ!

ויאמר אליו גדעון בי אדני ויש יהוה עמנו ולמה מצאתנו כל זאת ואיה כל נפלאתיו אשר ספרו לנו אבותינו לאמר הלא ממצרים העלנו יהוה ועתה נטשנו יהוה ויתננו בכף מדין
καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Γεδεων Ἐν ἐμοί, κύριε, καὶ εἰ ἔστιν κύριος μεθ’ ἡμῶν, ἵνα τί εὗρεν ἡμᾶς πάντα τὰ κακὰ ταῦτα; καὶ ποῦ ἐστιν πάντα τὰ θαυμάσια αὐτοῦ, ὅσα διηγήσαντο ἡμῖν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν λέγοντες Οὐχὶ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἀνήγαγεν ἡμᾶς κύριος; καὶ νῦν ἀπώσατο ἡμᾶς καὶ παρέδωκεν ἡμᾶς ἐν χειρὶ Μαδιαμ.
And Ghidʿòn answered: Please, my lordⓘ, if the Tetragrammaton is with us, why then has all this befallen us? And where are all his wondersⓘ that our fathers recounted to us, saying: «Did not the Tetragrammaton bring us up from Egypt?» And now the Tetragrammaton has abandoned us and delivered us into the hand of Midiàn.

ויפן אליו יהוה ויאמר לך בכחך זה והושעת את ישראל מכף מדין הלא שלחתיך
καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Πορεύου ἐν τῇ ἰσχύι σου καὶ σώσεις τὸν Ισραηλ, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐξαπέστειλά σε.
And the Tetragrammaton turned toward him and said: Go in this your strength and you shall save Israel from the hand of Midiàn: behold, I am sending youⓘ.
15
ויאמר אליו בי אדני במה אושיע את ישראל הנה אלפי הדל במנשה ואנכי הצעיר בבית אבי
καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Γεδεων Ἐν ἐμοί, κύριε, ἐν τίνι σώσω τὸν Ισραηλ; ἰδοὺ ἡ χιλιάς μου ταπεινοτέρα ἐν Μανασση, καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι μικρὸς ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρός μου.
And he answered: Please, my lordⓘ, with what shall I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Menashèⓘ, and I am the least in my father's house.
16
ויאמר אליו יהוה כי אהיה עמך והכית את מדין כאיש אחד
καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου Κύριος ἔσται μετὰ σοῦ, καὶ πατάξεις τὴν Μαδιαμ ὡσεὶ ἄνδρα ἕνα.
And the Tetragrammaton said to him: I will be with you, and you shall strike down Midiàn as if they were but one man.

ויאמר אליו אם נא מצאתי חן בעיניך ועשית לי אות שאתה מדבר עמי
καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Γεδεων Καὶ εἰ εὗρον χάριν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου, καὶ ποιήσεις μοι σημεῖον ὅτι σὺ λαλεῖς μετ’ ἐμοῦ·
And he said: If I have found favour in your eyes, show me a signⓘ that it is you who are speaking with me.
18
אל נא תמש מזה עד באי אליך והצאתי את מנחתי והנחתי לפניך ויאמר אנכי אשב עד שובך
μὴ κινηθῇς ἐντεῦθεν ἕως τοῦ ἐλθεῖν με πρὸς σέ, καὶ οἴσω τὴν θυσίαν μου καὶ θήσω ἐνώπιόν σου. καὶ εἶπεν Ἐγώ εἰμι καθήσομαι ἕως τοῦ ἐπιστρέψαι σε.
Do not depart from here until I return to you and bring my offeringⓘ before you. And he said: I will remain until you return.
19
וגדעון בא ויעש גדי עזים ואיפת קמח מצות הבשר שם בסל והמרק שם בפרור ויוצא אליו אל תחת האלה ויגש
καὶ Γεδεων εἰσῆλθεν καὶ ἐποίησεν ἔριφον αἰγῶν καὶ οιφι ἀλεύρου ἄζυμα καὶ τὰ κρέα ἐπέθηκεν ἐπὶ τὸ κανοῦν καὶ τὸν ζωμὸν ἐνέχεεν εἰς χύτραν καὶ ἐξήνεγκεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τὴν δρῦν καὶ προσεκύνησεν.
And Ghidʿòn went into the house and prepared a young goat and unleavened breadⓘ from an ephah of flour; he put the meat in a basket, poured the broth into a pot, and brought everything to him under the oak and presented it to him.
20
ויאמר אליו מלאך האלהים קח את הבשר ואת המצות והנח אל הסלע הלז ואת המרק שפוך ויעש כן
καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου Λαβὲ τὰ κρέα καὶ τοὺς ἄρτους τοὺς ἀζύμους καὶ θὲς πρὸς τὴν πέτραν ἐκείνην καὶ τὸν ζωμὸν ἔκχεον· καὶ ἐποίησεν οὕτως.
And the messenger of God said to him: Take the meat and the unleavened bread, lay them on this rock, and pour the broth over them. And he did so.
21
וישלח מלאך יהוה את קצה המשענת אשר בידו ויגע בבשר ובמצות ותעל האש מן הצור ותאכל את הבשר ואת המצות ומלאך יהוה הלך מעיניו
καὶ ἐξέτεινεν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου τὸ ἄκρον τῆς ῥάβδου τῆς ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἥψατο τῶν κρεῶν καὶ τῶν ἀζύμων, καὶ ἀνήφθη πῦρ ἐκ τῆς πέτρας καὶ κατέφαγεν τὰ κρέα καὶ τοὺς ἀζύμους· καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἀπῆλθεν ἐξ ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτοῦ.
The messenger of the Tetragrammaton stretched out the tip of the staff that was in his hand, touched the meat and the unleavened bread, and fire rose from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread; and the messenger of the Tetragrammaton vanished from his sight.
22
וירא גדעון כי מלאך יהוה הוא ויאמר גדעון אהה אדני יהוה כי על כן ראיתי מלאך יהוה פנים אל פנים
καὶ εἶδεν Γεδεων ὅτι ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐστίν, καὶ εἶπεν Γεδεων Ἆ ἆ, κύριε κύριε, ὅτι εἶδον τὸν ἄγγελον κυρίου πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον.
And Ghidʿòn understood that he was the messenger of the Tetragrammaton, and he cried out: Alas, Lord Tetragrammatonⓘ, because I have seen the messenger of the Tetragrammaton face to faceⓘ!

ויאמר לו יהוה שלום לך אל תירא לא תמות
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ κύριος Εἰρήνη σοι, μὴ φοβοῦ μὴ ἀποθάνῃς.
And the Tetragrammaton said to him: Peace be to youⓘ, do not fear, you shall not die.
24
ויבן שם גדעון מזבח ליהוה ויקרא לו יהוה שלום עד היום הזה עודנו בעפרת אבי העזרי
καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν ἐκεῖ Γεδεων θυσιαστήριον τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸ Εἰρήνη κυρίου ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης ἔτι αὐτοῦ ὄντος ἐν Εφραθα πατρὸς τοῦ Εζρι.
And Ghidʿòn built there an altar to the Tetragrammaton and called it Tetragrammaton-Shalòmⓘ, which stands to this day in ʿOfrà of the Abiʿezrites.

ויהי בלילה ההוא ויאמר לו יהוה קח את פר השור אשר לאביך ופר השני שבע שנים והרסת את מזבח הבעל אשר לאביך ואת האשרה אשר עליו תכרת
Καὶ ἐγενήθη τῇ νυκτὶ ἐκείνῃ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ κύριος Λαβὲ τὸν μόσχον τὸν σιτευτὸν τοῦ πατρός σου, μόσχον τὸν ἑπταετῆ, καὶ καθελεῖς τὸ θυσιαστήριον τοῦ Βααλ, ὅ ἐστιν τοῦ πατρός σου, καὶ τὸ ἄλσος τὸ ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἐκκόψεις·
That same night the Tetragrammaton said to him: Take your father's bull, the second bull of seven years, tear down the altar of Baʿalⓘ that belongs to your father, and cut down the sacred pole of Asheràhⓘ that stands beside it;
26
ובנית מזבח ליהוה אלהיך על ראש המעוז הזה במערכה ולקחת את הפר השני והעלית עולה בעצי האשרה אשר תכרת
καὶ οἰκοδομήσεις θυσιαστήριον κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ σου τῷ ὀφθέντι σοι ἐπὶ τῆς κορυφῆς τοῦ ὄρους Μαωζ τούτου ἐν τῇ παρατάξει καὶ λήμψῃ τὸν μόσχον καὶ ἀνοίσεις ὁλοκαύτωμα ἐν τοῖς ξύλοις τοῦ ἄλσους, οὗ ἐκκόψεις.
and build an altar to the Tetragrammaton your God on the summit of this strongholdⓘ, in the proper order, take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offeringⓘ using the wood of the Asheràh pole that you shall have cut down.

ויקח גדעון עשרה אנשים מעבדיו ויעש כאשר דבר אליו יהוה ויהי כאשר ירא את בית אביו ואת אנשי העיר מעשות יומם ויעש לילה
καὶ ἔλαβεν Γεδεων τρεῖς καὶ δέκα ἄνδρας ἀπὸ τῶν δούλων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐποίησεν καθὰ ἐλάλησεν πρὸς αὐτὸν κύριος· καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἐφοβήθη τὸν οἶκον τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἄνδρας τῆς πόλεως μὴ ποιῆσαι ἡμέρας, καὶ ἐποίησεν νυκτός.
And Ghidʿòn took ten of his servants and did as the Tetragrammaton had commanded him; but because he feared his father's household and the men of the city, he did not do it by day: he did it by night.
28
וישכימו אנשי העיר בבקר והנה נתץ מזבח הבעל והאשרה אשר עליו כרתה ואת הפר השני העלה על המזבח הבנוי
καὶ ὤρθρισαν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως τὸ πρωί, καὶ ἰδοὺ κατεσκαμμένον τὸ θυσιαστήριον τοῦ Βααλ, καὶ τὸ ἄλσος τὸ ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἐκκεκομμένον, καὶ ὁ μόσχος ὁ σιτευτὸς ἀνηνεγμένος εἰς ὁλοκαύτωμα ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ ᾠκοδομημένον.
The following morning the men of the city rose, and behold: the altar of Baʿal demolished, the pole of Asheràh beside it cut down, and the second bull offered on the newly built altar.

ויאמרו איש אל רעהו מי עשה הדבר הזה וידרשו ויבקשו ויאמרו גדעון בן יואש עשה הדבר הזה
καὶ εἶπεν ἀνὴρ πρὸς τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ Τίς ἐποίησεν τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο; καὶ ἀνήταζον καὶ ἐξεζήτουν καὶ εἶπαν Γεδεων ὁ υἱὸς Ιωας ἐποίησεν τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο.
And they said to one another: Who has done this thing? They inquired and searched, and said: Ghidʿòn son of Yoàsh has done it.

ויאמרו אנשי העיר אל יואש הוצא את בנך וימת כי נתץ את מזבח הבעל וכי כרת האשרה אשר עליו
καὶ εἶπαν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως πρὸς Ιωας Ἐξάγαγε τὸν υἱόν σου καὶ ἀποθανέτω, ὅτι κατέσκαψεν τὸ θυσιαστήριον τοῦ Βααλ καὶ ὅτι ἔκοψεν τὸ ἄλσος τὸ ἐπ’ αὐτῷ.
And the men of the city said to Yoàsh: Bring out your son that he may die, because he has demolished the altar of Baʿal and cut down the pole of Asheràh that was beside it.

ויאמר יואש לכל אשר עמדו עליו האתם תריבון לבעל אם אתם תושיעון אותו אשר יריב לו יומת עד הבקר אם אלהים הוא ירב לו כי נתץ את מזבחו
καὶ εἶπεν Ιωας πρὸς τοὺς ἄνδρας τοὺς ἑσταμένους ἐπ’ αὐτόν Μὴ ὑμεῖς νῦν δικάζεσθε περὶ τοῦ Βααλ; ἢ ὑμεῖς σῴζετε αὐτόν; ὃς ἀντεδίκησεν αὐτόν, ἀποθανεῖται ἕως πρωί· εἰ ἔστιν θεός, αὐτὸς ἐκδικήσει αὐτόν, ὅτι κατέσκαψεν τὸ θυσιαστήριον αὐτοῦ.
And Yoàsh said to all who stood against him: Will you contend for Baʿalⓘ? Will you save him? Whoever pleads for him shall be put to death by morning. If he is truly a god, let him contend for himself, since they have torn down his altar!

ויקרא לו ביום ההוא ירבעל לאמר ירב בו הבעל כי נתץ את מזבחו
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ Δικαστήριον τοῦ Βααλ, ὅτι κατέσκαψεν τὸ θυσιαστήριον αὐτοῦ.
And on that day they called Ghidʿòn Yerubbaʿalⓘ, saying: Let Baʿal contend for himself, because he had torn down his altar.
33
וכל מדין ועמלק ובני קדם נאספו יחדו ויעברו ויחנו בעמק יזרעאל
Καὶ πᾶσα Μαδιαμ καὶ Αμαληκ καὶ υἱοὶ ἀνατολῶν συνήχθησαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ καὶ διέβησαν καὶ παρενέβαλον ἐν τῇ κοιλάδι Ιεζραελ.
And all Midiàn and ʿAmalèq and the sons of the east gathered together, crossed the Jordan, and encamped in the valley of Izreèlⓘ.

ורוח יהוה לבשה את גדעון ויתקע בשופר ויזעק אביעזר אחריו
καὶ πνεῦμα θεοῦ ἐνέδυσεν τὸν Γεδεων, καὶ ἐσάλπισεν ἐν κερατίνῃ, καὶ ἐβόησεν Αβιεζερ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ.
And the breath of the Tetragrammatonⓘ clothed Ghidʿòn: he sounded the ram's hornⓘ and the Abiʿezritesⓘ were summoned after him.
35
ומלאכים שלח בכל מנשה ויזעק גם הוא אחריו ומלאכים שלח באשר ובזבלון ובנפתלי ויעלו לקראתם
καὶ ἀγγέλους ἐξαπέστειλεν ἐν παντὶ Μανασση καὶ ἐβόησεν καὶ αὐτὸς ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους ἐν Ασηρ καὶ ἐν Ζαβουλων καὶ ἐν Νεφθαλι, καὶ ἀνέβησαν εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῦ.
He sent messengers throughout all Menashè, and it too was summoned to follow him; he sent messengers to Ashèr, Zevulùn and Naftalì, and they too came up to join him.
36
ויאמר גדעון אל האלהים אם ישך מושיע בידי את ישראל כאשר דברת
καὶ εἶπεν Γεδεων πρὸς τὸν θεόν Εἰ σῴζεις ἐν τῇ χειρί μου τὸν Ισραηλ, ὃν τρόπον ἐλάλησας,
And Ghidʿòn said to God: If you are truly going to save Israel by my hand, as you have promised,
37
הנה אנכי מציג את גזת הצמר בגרן אם טל יהיה על הגזה לבדה ועל כל הארץ חרב וידעתי כי תושיע בידי את ישראל כאשר דברת
ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀπερείδομαι τὸν πόκον τῶν ἐρίων ἐν τῷ ἅλωνι, καὶ ἐὰν δρόσος γένηται ἐπὶ τὸν πόκον μόνον καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ξηρασία, καὶ γνώσομαι ὅτι σῴζεις ἐν τῇ χειρί μου τὸν Ισραηλ, ὃν τρόπον ἐλάλησας.
behold, I am spreading the fleece of woolⓘ on the threshing floor: if the dewⓘ is on the fleece alone while all the surrounding ground is dry, then I shall know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said.

ויהי כן וישכם ממחרת ויזר את הגזה וימץ טל מן הגזה מלוא הספל מים
καὶ ἐγένετο οὕτως· καὶ ὤρθρισεν Γεδεων τῇ ἐπαύριον καὶ ἀπεπίασεν τὸν πόκον, καὶ ἀπερρύη ἡ δρόσος ἐκ τοῦ πόκου, πλήρης λεκάνη ὕδατος.
And so it was: the following morning Ghidʿòn rose early, wrung the fleece, and pressed out dew from the fleece, a full bowl of water.

ויאמר גדעון אל האלהים אל יחר אפך בי ואדברה אך הפעם אנסה נא רק הפעם בגזה יהי נא חרב אל הגזה לבדה ועל כל הארץ יהיה טל
καὶ εἶπεν Γεδεων πρὸς τὸν θεόν Μὴ ὀργισθήτω ὁ θυμός σου ἐν ἐμοί, καὶ λαλήσω ἔτι ἅπαξ· καὶ πειράσω ἔτι ἅπαξ ἐν τῷ πόκῳ, καὶ γενηθήτω ξηρασία ἐπὶ τὸν πόκον μόνον, ἐπὶ δὲ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν γενηθήτω δρόσος.
And Ghidʿòn said to God: Do not let your anger burn against me; let me speak just once more: let me make one more trial with the fleece — let the fleece alone be dry and let there be dew on all the surrounding ground.

ויעש אלהים כן בלילה ההוא ויהי חרב אל הגזה לבדה ועל כל הארץ היה טל
καὶ ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς οὕτως ἐν τῇ νυκτὶ ἐκείνῃ, καὶ ἐγένετο ξηρασία ἐπὶ τὸν πόκον μόνον, ἐπὶ δὲ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἐγένετο δρόσος.
And God did so that night: the fleece alone remained dry, and on all the surrounding ground there was dew.
