ויספו בני ישראל לעשות הרע בעיני יהוה ויתנם יהוה ביד פלשתים ארבעים שנה
Καὶ προσέθεντο οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον κυρίου, καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς κύριος ἐν χειρὶ ἀλλοφύλων τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη.
And the children of Israelⓘ continued to do evil in the eyes of the Tetragrammaton, and the Tetragrammaton delivered them into the hand of the Philistinesⓘ for forty years.

ויהי איש אחד מצרעה ממשפחת הדני ושמו מנוח ואשתו עקרה ולא ילדה
Καὶ ἐγένετο ἀνὴρ ἐκ Σαραα ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς τοῦ Δαν, καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῷ Μανωε, καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ στεῖρα καὶ οὐκ ἔτικτεν.
And there was a man from Tzorʿàhⓘ, of the family of the Daniteⓘ, whose name was Manòachⓘ; and his wife was barrenⓘ and had not given birth.

וירא מלאך יהוה אל האשה ויאמר אליה הנה נא את עקרה ולא ילדת והרית וילדת בן
καὶ ὤφθη ἄγγελος κυρίου πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτήν Ἰδοὺ δὴ σὺ στεῖρα καὶ οὐ τέτοκας· καὶ ἐν γαστρὶ ἕξεις καὶ τέξῃ υἱόν.
And the messenger of the Tetragrammatonⓘ appeared to the woman and said to her: «Behold, you are barren and have not given birth, but you shall conceive and bear a son.

ועתה השמרי נא ואל תשתי יין ושכר ואל תאכלי כל טמא
καὶ νῦν φύλαξαι καὶ μὴ πίῃς οἶνον καὶ σικερα καὶ μὴ φάγῃς πᾶν ἀκάθαρτον·
And now take heedⓘ: do not drink wine or strong drinkⓘ, and do not eat anything uncleanⓘ;

כי הנך הרה וילדת בן ומורה לא יעלה על ראשו כי נזיר אלהים יהיה הנער מן הבטן והוא יחל להושיע את ישראל מיד פלשתים
ὅτι ἰδοὺ σὺ ἐν γαστρὶ ἕξεις καὶ τέξῃ υἱόν, καὶ οὐκ ἀναβήσεται σίδηρος ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἡγιασμένον ναζιραῖον ἔσται τῷ θεῷ τὸ παιδάριον ἐκ τῆς γαστρός, καὶ αὐτὸς ἄρξεται σῴζειν τὸν Ισραηλ ἐκ χειρὸς ἀλλοφύλων.
for behold, you shall conceive and bear a son, and no razorⓘ shall come upon his head, for nazìr of Godⓘ shall the boy be from the wombⓘ, and he shall begin to saveⓘ Israel from the hand of the Philistines».

ותבא האשה ותאמר לאישה לאמר איש האלהים בא אלי ומראהו כמראה מלאך האלהים נורא מאד ולא שאלתיהו אי מזה הוא ואת שמו לא הגיד לי
καὶ ἦλθεν ἡ γυνὴ καὶ εἶπεν τῷ ἀνδρὶ αὐτῆς λέγουσα ὅτι Ἄνθρωπος τοῦ θεοῦ ἦλθεν πρός με, καὶ ἡ ὅρασις αὐτοῦ ὡς ὅρασις ἀγγέλου τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπιφανὴς σφόδρα· καὶ ἠρώτων, πόθεν ἐστίν, καὶ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἀπήγγειλέν μοι.
And the woman came and said to her husband: «A man of Godⓘ came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of the messenger of God, exceedingly awesomeⓘ; and I did not ask him where he was from, and his name he did not tell me.

ויאמר לי הנך הרה וילדת בן ועתה אל תשתי יין ושכר ואל תאכלי כל טמאה כי נזיר אלהים יהיה הנער מן הבטן עד יום מותו
καὶ εἶπέν μοι Ἰδοὺ σὺ ἐν γαστρὶ ἕξεις καὶ τέξῃ υἱόν· καὶ νῦν μὴ πίῃς οἶνον καὶ σικερα καὶ μὴ φάγῃς πᾶσαν ἀκαθαρσίαν, ὅτι ναζιραῖον θεοῦ ἔσται τὸ παιδάριον ἀπὸ τῆς γαστρὸς ἕως ἡμέρας θανάτου αὐτοῦ.
And he said to me: Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son; and now do not drink wine or strong drink and do not eat anything unclean, for the boy shall be a nazìr of God from the womb until the day of his death».

ויעתר מנוח אל יהוה ויאמר בי אדוני איש האלהים אשר שלחת יבוא נא עוד אלינו ויורנו מה נעשה לנער היולד
καὶ ἐδεήθη Μανωε τοῦ κυρίου καὶ εἶπεν Ἐν ἐμοί, κύριε, ἄνθρωπος τοῦ θεοῦ, ὃν ἀπέστειλας πρὸς ἡμᾶς, ἐλθέτω δὴ πρὸς ἡμᾶς καὶ φωτισάτω ἡμᾶς τί ποιήσωμεν τῷ παιδαρίῳ τῷ τικτομένῳ.
And Manòach imploredⓘ the Tetragrammaton and said: «Please, my Lordⓘ, may the man of God whom you sent come again to us, please, and instruct usⓘ in what we shall do for the boy who will be born».

וישמע האלהים בקול מנוח ויבא מלאך האלהים עוד אל האשה והיא יושבת בשדה ומנוח אישה אין עמה
καὶ ἐπήκουσεν ὁ θεὸς τῆς φωνῆς Μανωε, καὶ παρεγένετο ὁ ἄγγελος τοῦ θεοῦ ἔτι πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτῆς καθημένης ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ, καὶ Μανωε ὁ ἀνὴρ αὐτῆς οὐκ ἦν μετ’ αὐτῆς.
And God heard the voice of Manòach, and the messenger of God came again to the woman while she was sitting in the fieldⓘ, and Manòach her husband was not with her.

ותמהר האשה ותרץ ותגד לאישה ותאמר אליו הנה נראה אלי האיש אשר בא ביום אלי
καὶ ἐτάχυνεν ἡ γυνὴ καὶ ἐξέδραμεν καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ ἀνδρὶ αὐτῆς καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν Ἰδοὺ ὦπταί μοι ὁ ἀνὴρ ὁ ἐλθὼν πρός με τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ.
And the woman made haste and ran and told her husband and said to him: «Behold, the man who came to me that day has appeared to me».

ויקם וילך מנוח אחרי אשתו ויבא אל האיש ויאמר לו האתה האיש אשר דברת אל האשה ויאמר אני
καὶ ἀνέστη Μανωε καὶ ἐπορεύθη ὀπίσω τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὸν ἄνδρα καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Εἰ σὺ εἶ ὁ ἀνὴρ ὁ λαλήσας πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα; καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἄγγελος Ἐγώ.
And Manòach arose and went after his wife and came to the man and said to him: «Are you the man who spoke to the woman?». And he said: «I am».

ויאמר מנוח עתה יבא דבריך מה יהיה משפט הנער ומעשהו
καὶ εἶπεν Μανωε Νῦν δὴ ἐλθόντος τοῦ ῥήματός σου τί ἔσται τὸ κρίμα τοῦ παιδαρίου καὶ τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ;
And Manòach said: «Now, when your word comes to pass, what shall be the ruleⓘ for the boy and his conduct?».

ויאמר מלאך יהוה אל מנוח מכל אשר אמרתי אל האשה תשמר
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου πρὸς Μανωε Ἀπὸ πάντων, ὧν εἶπα πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα, φυλαξάσθω·
And the messenger of the Tetragrammaton said to Manòach: «Let her keep away from all that I said to the woman:

מכל אשר יצא מגפן היין לא תאכל ויין ושכר אל תשת וכל טמאה אל תאכל כל אשר צויתיה תשמר
ἀπὸ πάντων, ὅσα ἐκπορεύεται ἐξ ἀμπέλου, οὐ φάγεται καὶ οἶνον καὶ σικερα μὴ πιέτω καὶ πᾶν ἀκάθαρτον μὴ φαγέτω· πάντα, ὅσα ἐνετειλάμην αὐτῇ, φυλαξάσθω.
from everything that comes from the vineⓘ let her not eat, wine and strong drink let her not drink, and nothing unclean let her eat; all that I commanded her let her observe».

ויאמר מנוח אל מלאך יהוה נעצרה נא אותך ונעשה לפניך גדי עזים
καὶ εἶπεν Μανωε πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον κυρίου Βιασώμεθα δή σε καὶ ποιήσομεν ἐνώπιόν σου ἔριφον αἰγῶν.
And Manòach said to the messenger of the Tetragrammaton: «Let us detain youⓘ, please, and we will prepare a kidⓘ before you».

ויאמר מלאך יהוה אל מנוח אם תעצרני לא אכל בלחמך ואם תעשה עלה ליהוה תעלנה כי לא ידע מנוח כי מלאך יהוה הוא
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου πρὸς Μανωε Ἐὰν βιάσῃ με, οὐ φάγομαι τῶν ἄρτων σου, καὶ ἐὰν ποιήσῃς ὁλοκαύτωμα, κυρίῳ ἀνοίσεις αὐτό· ὅτι οὐκ ἔγνω Μανωε ὅτι ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐστίν.
And the messenger of the Tetragrammaton said to Manòach: «Even if you detain me I will not eat your bread, and if you offer up a burnt offeringⓘ, offer it to the Tetragrammaton»; for Manòach did not know that he was the messenger of the Tetragrammaton.

ויאמר מנוח אל מלאך יהוה מי שמך כי יבא דבריך דברך וכבדנוך
καὶ εἶπεν Μανωε πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον κυρίου Τί ὄνομά σοι, ἵνα, ὅταν ἔλθῃ τὸ ῥῆμά σου, δοξάσωμέν σε;
And Manòach said to the messenger of the Tetragrammaton: «What is your name, so that when your word comes to pass we may honor youⓘ?».

ויאמר לו מלאך יהוה למה זה תשאל לשמי והוא פלאי
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου Ἵνα τί τοῦτο ἐρωτᾷς τὸ ὄνομά μου; καὶ αὐτό ἐστιν θαυμαστόν.
And the messenger of the Tetragrammaton said to him: «Why do you ask this about my name? It is wonderfulⓘ».

ויקח מנוח את גדי העזים ואת המנחה ויעל על הצור ליהוה ומפלא לעשות ומנוח ואשתו ראים
καὶ ἔλαβεν Μανωε τὸν ἔριφον τῶν αἰγῶν καὶ τὴν θυσίαν καὶ ἀνήνεγκεν ἐπὶ τὴν πέτραν τῷ κυρίῳ, τῷ θαυμαστὰ ποιοῦντι κυρίῳ· καὶ Μανωε καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ ἐθεώρουν.
And Manòach took the kid and the grain offeringⓘ and offered them upon the rockⓘ to the Tetragrammaton; and he who works wondersⓘ worked wonders, while Manòach and his wife looked on.

ויהי בעלות הלהב מעל המזבח השמימה ויעל מלאך יהוה בלהב המזבח ומנוח ואשתו ראים ויפלו על פניהם ארצה
καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἀναβῆναι τὴν φλόγα ἐπάνωθεν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ ἀνέβη ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐν τῇ φλογί, καὶ Μανωε καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ ἐθεώρουν καὶ ἔπεσον ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.
And it came to pass, as the flameⓘ ascended from upon the altar toward the heavens, that the messenger of the Tetragrammaton ascended in the flame of the altar; and Manòach and his wife looked on and fell on their faces to the groundⓘ.

ולא יסף עוד מלאך יהוה להראה אל מנוח ואל אשתו אז ידע מנוח כי מלאך יהוה הוא
καὶ οὐ προσέθηκεν ἔτι ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου ὀφθῆναι πρὸς Μανωε καὶ πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ· τότε ἔγνω Μανωε ὅτι ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐστίν.
And the messenger of the Tetragrammaton did not appear again to Manòach and his wife; then Manòach knewⓘ that he was the messenger of the Tetragrammaton.
22
ויאמר מנוח אל אשתו מות נמות כי אלהים ראינו
καὶ εἶπεν Μανωε πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ Θανάτῳ ἀποθανούμεθα, ὅτι θεὸν ἑωράκαμεν.
And Manòach said to his wife: «We shall surely dieⓘ, for we have seen God».

ותאמר לו אשתו לו חפץ יהוה להמיתנו לא לקח מידנו עלה ומנחה ולא הראנו את כל אלה וכעת לא השמיענו כזאת
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ Εἰ ἐβούλετο κύριος θανατῶσαι ἡμᾶς, οὐκ ἂν ἐδέξατο ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν ἡμῶν ὁλοκαύτωμα καὶ θυσίαν καὶ οὐκ ἂν ἐφώτισεν ἡμᾶς πάντα ταῦτα καὶ οὐκ ἂν ἀκουστὰ ἐποίησεν ἡμῖν ταῦτα.
And his wife said to him: «If the Tetragrammaton had desired to kill us, he would not have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from our hand, nor would he have shown us all these things, nor at this time would he have caused us to hear such a thing».

ותלד האשה בן ותקרא את שמו שמשון ויגדל הנער ויברכהו יהוה
Καὶ ἔτεκεν ἡ γυνὴ υἱὸν καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Σαμψων· καὶ ηὐλόγησεν αὐτὸν κύριος, καὶ ηὐξήθη τὸ παιδάριον.
And the woman gave birth to a son and called his name Shimshònⓘ; and the boy grew, and the Tetragrammaton blessed him.
25
ותחל רוח יהוה לפעמו במחנה דן בין צרעה ובין אשתאל
καὶ ἤρξατο πνεῦμα κυρίου συμπορεύεσθαι αὐτῷ ἐν παρεμβολῇ Δαν ἀνὰ μέσον Σαραα καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Εσθαολ.
And the breath of the Tetragrammatonⓘ began to stir himⓘ in the camp of Dan, between Tzorʿàh and Eshtaòlⓘ.
