ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר
Καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων
And the word of the Tetragrammaton came to me:
2
בן אדם שים פניך דרך תימנה והטף אל דרום והנבא אל יער השדה נגב
Υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, στήρισον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἐπὶ Θαιμαν καὶ ἐπίβλεψον ἐπὶ Δαρωμ καὶ προφήτευσον ἐπὶ δρυμὸν ἡγούμενον Ναγεβ
Ben adàmⓘ, turn your face toward the south, toward Temànⓘ and toward Daròm, and prophesy against the forest of the Nèghev regionⓘ.

ואמרת ליער הנגב שמע דבר יהוה כה אמר אדני יהוה הנני מצית בך אש ואכלה בך כל עץ לח וכל עץ יבש לא תכבה להבת שלהבת ונצרבו בה כל פנים מנגב צפונה
καὶ ἐρεῖς τῷ δρυμῷ Ναγεβ Ἄκουε λόγον κυρίου Τάδε λέγει κύριος κύριος Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀνάπτω ἐν σοὶ πῦρ, καὶ καταφάγεται ἐν σοὶ πᾶν ξύλον χλωρὸν καὶ πᾶν ξύλον ξηρόν, οὐ σβεσθήσεται ἡ φλὸξ ἡ ἐξαφθεῖσα, καὶ κατακαυθήσεται ἐν αὐτῇ πᾶν πρόσωπον ἀπὸ ἀπηλιώτου ἕως βορρᾶ·
And say to the forest of the Nèghev: Hear the word of the Tetragrammaton! Thus says the Lord the Tetragrammaton: Behold, I am kindling a fire in you, and it will devour in you every green tree and every dry treeⓘ; the blazing flameⓘ shall not be extinguished, and in it every face will be scorched from south to north.

וראו כל בשר כי אני יהוה בערתיה לא תכבה
καὶ ἐπιγνώσονται πᾶσα σὰρξ ὅτι ἐγὼ κύριος ἐξέκαυσα αὐτό, καὶ οὐ σβεσθήσεται.
And all flesh, every living being, will see that I, the Tetragrammaton, have kindled it: it shall not be extinguished.

ואמר אהה אדני יהוה המה אמרים לי הלא ממשל משלים הוא
καὶ εἶπα Μηδαμῶς, κύριε κύριε· αὐτοὶ λέγουσιν πρός με Οὐχὶ παραβολή ἐστιν λεγομένη αὕτη;
And I said: Alas, Lord Tetragrammaton! They say of me: "Is he not one who speaks in meshalìmⓘ?"

ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר
καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων
And the word of the Tetragrammaton came to me:
7
בן אדם שים פניך אל ירושלם והטף אל מקדשים והנבא אל אדמת ישראל
Διὰ τοῦτο προφήτευσον, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, καὶ στήρισον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἐπὶ Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἐπίβλεψον ἐπὶ τὰ ἅγια αὐτῶν καὶ προφητεύσεις ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν τοῦ Ισραηλ
Therefore prophesy, ben adàm; turn your face toward Jerusalem, cause the word to drip toward the sanctuariesⓘ, and prophesy against the land of Israel.

ואמרת לאדמת ישראל כה אמר יהוה הנני אליך והוצאתי חרבי מתערה והכרתי ממך צדיק ורשע
καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς τὴν γῆν τοῦ Ισραηλ Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ πρὸς σὲ καὶ ἐκσπάσω τὸ ἐγχειρίδιόν μου ἐκ τοῦ κολεοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσω ἐκ σοῦ ἄδικον καὶ ἄνομον·
And say to the land of Israel: Thus says the Tetragrammaton: Behold, I am against you; I will draw my chèrevⓘ from the sheathⓘ and will cut off from you both tzaddìq ve-rashàʿⓘ.

יען אשר הכרתי ממך צדיק ורשע לכן תצא חרבי מתערה אל כל בשר מנגב צפון
ἀνθ’ ὧν ἐξολεθρεύσω ἐκ σοῦ ἄδικον καὶ ἄνομον, οὕτως ἐξελεύσεται τὸ ἐγχειρίδιόν μου ἐκ τοῦ κολεοῦ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν σάρκα ἀπὸ ἀπηλιώτου ἕως βορρᾶ·
Because I will cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked, therefore my sword will go out from its sheath against all flesh from south to north,

וידעו כל בשר כי אני יהוה הוצאתי חרבי מתערה לא תשוב עוד
καὶ ἐπιγνώσεται πᾶσα σὰρξ διότι ἐγὼ κύριος ἐξέσπασα τὸ ἐγχειρίδιόν μου ἐκ τοῦ κολεοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐκ ἀποστρέψει οὐκέτι.
and all flesh will know that I, the Tetragrammaton, have drawn my sword from its sheath: it will not return to it anymore.

ואתה בן אדם האנח בשברון מתנים ובמרירות תאנח לעיניהם
καὶ σύ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, καταστέναξον ἐν συντριβῇ ὀσφύος σου καὶ ἐν ὀδύναις στενάξεις κατ’ ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν.
And you, ben adàm, groan: with loins shattered by pain and with bitterness groan before their eyes.

והיה כי יאמרו אליך על מה אתה נאנח ואמרת אל שמועה כי באה ונמס כל לב ורפו כל ידים וכהתה כל רוח וכל ברכים תלכנה מים הנה באה ונהיתה נאם אדני יהוה
καὶ ἔσται ἐὰν εἴπωσιν πρὸς σέ Ἕνεκα τίνος σὺ στενάζεις; καὶ ἐρεῖς Ἐπὶ τῇ ἀγγελίᾳ, διότι ἔρχεται, καὶ θραυσθήσεται πᾶσα καρδία, καὶ πᾶσαι χεῖρες παραλυθήσονται, καὶ ἐκψύξει πᾶσα σὰρξ καὶ πᾶν πνεῦμα, καὶ πάντες μηροὶ μολυνθήσονται ὑγρασίᾳ· ἰδοὺ ἔρχεται καὶ ἔσται, λέγει κύριος κύριος. –
And when they say to you: "Why are you groaning thus?", you shall answer: On account of the shemuʿàhⓘ that is coming: every heart will melt, every hand will grow feeble, every spirit will faint, and every knee will turn to waterⓘ. Behold, it comes and is fulfilled — oracle of the Lord the Tetragrammaton.

ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר
καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων
And the word of the Tetragrammaton came to me:
14
בן אדם הנבא ואמרת כה אמר אדני אמר חרב חרב הוחדה וגם מרוטה
Υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, προφήτευσον καὶ ἐρεῖς Τάδε λέγει κύριος Εἰπόν Ῥομφαία ῥομφαία, ὀξύνου καὶ θυμώθητι,
Ben adàm, prophesy and say: Thus says the Lord: Sword, swordⓘ, sharpened and also polished!
15
למען טבח טבח הוחדה למען היה לה ברק מרטה או נשיש שבט בני מאסת כל עץ
ὅπως σφάξῃς σφάγια, ὀξύνου ὅπως γένῃ εἰς στίλβωσιν, ἑτοίμη εἰς παράλυσιν σφάζε, ἐξουδένει ἀπωθοῦ πᾶν ξύλον.
Sharpened to make slaughter, polished so that it may flash lightningⓘ. — Or shall we rejoice? The scepter of my son despises every wood.

ויתן אתה למרטה לתפש בכף היא הוחדה חרב והיא מרטה לתת אותה ביד הורג
καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὴν ἑτοίμην τοῦ κρατεῖν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ· ἐξηκονήθη ῥομφαία, ἔστιν ἑτοίμη τοῦ δοῦναι αὐτὴν εἰς χεῖρα ἀποκεντοῦντος.
It is given to be polished so that it may be grasped: a sword sharpened and polished to be placed in the hand of the slayer.

זעק והילל בן אדם כי היא היתה בעמי היא בכל נשיאי ישראל מגורי אל חרב היו את עמי לכן ספק אל ירך
ἀνάκραγε καὶ ὀλόλυξον, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, ὅτι αὐτὴ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ λαῷ μου, αὐτὴ ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἀφηγουμένοις τοῦ Ισραηλ· παροικήσουσιν ἐπὶ ῥομφαίᾳ, ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ λαῷ μου· διὰ τοῦτο κρότησον ἐπὶ τὴν χεῖρά σου.
Cry out and wailⓘ, ben adàm, for it is directed against my people, against all the princes of Israel, thrown to the sword together with my people: therefore beat your side in mourning.

כי בחן ומה אם גם שבט מאסת לא יהיה נאם אדני יהוה
ὅτι δεδικαίωται· καὶ τί, εἰ καὶ φυλὴ ἀπώσθη; οὐκ ἔσται, λέγει κύριος κύριος.
It is a testⓘ: and what shall it be, if even the scepter that despises shall be no more? — oracle of the Lord the Tetragrammaton.

ואתה בן אדם הנבא והך כף אל כף ותכפל חרב שלישתה חרב חללים היא חרב חלל הגדול החדרת להם
καὶ σύ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, προφήτευσον καὶ κρότησον χεῖρα ἐπὶ χεῖρα καὶ διπλασίασον ῥομφαίαν· ἡ τρίτη ῥομφαία τραυματιῶν ἐστιν ῥομφαία τραυματιῶν ἡ μεγάλη καὶ ἐκστήσει αὐτούς,
And you, ben adàm, prophesy and clap hand against handⓘ; let the sword be doubled, yes, a third time: the sword of the slain, the great sword of slaughter that surrounds them,
20
למען למוג לב והרבה המכשלים על כל שעריהם נתתי אבחת חרב אח עשויה לברק מעטה לטבח
ὅπως θραυσθῇ ἡ καρδία καὶ πληθυνθῶσιν οἱ ἀσθενοῦντες ἐπὶ πᾶσαν πύλην αὐτῶν· παραδέδονται εἰς σφάγια ῥομφαίας, εὖ γέγονεν εἰς σφαγήν, εὖ γέγονεν εἰς στίλβωσιν.
so that the heart may melt and the fallenⓘ multiply at all their gates. I have set the flashing of the sword: ah, made to flash like lightning, sharpened for slaughter!

התאחדי הימני השימי השמילי אנה פניך מעדות
διαπορεύου ὀξύνου ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ ἐξ εὐωνύμων, οὗ ἂν τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἐξεγείρηται.
Be unitedⓘ, turn to the right, go to the left, wherever your edge is directed.
22
וגם אני אכה כפי אל כפי והנחתי חמתי אני יהוה דברתי
καὶ ἐγὼ δὲ κροτήσω χεῖρά μου πρὸς χεῖρά μου καὶ ἐναφήσω τὸν θυμόν μου· ἐγὼ κύριος λελάληκα. –
I also will clap hand against hand and will satisfy my fury: I, the Tetragrammaton, have spoken.

ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר
καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων
And the word of the Tetragrammaton came to me:
24
ואתה בן אדם שים לך שנים דרכים לבוא חרב מלך בבל מארץ אחד יצאו שניהם ויד ברא בראש דרך עיר ברא
Καὶ σύ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, διάταξον σεαυτῷ δύο ὁδοὺς τοῦ εἰσελθεῖν ῥομφαίαν βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος· ἐκ χώρας μιᾶς ἐξελεύσονται αἱ δύο, καὶ χεὶρ ἐν ἀρχῇ ὁδοῦ πόλεως· ἐπ’ ἀρχῆς
And you, ben adàm, mark out two ways by which the sword of the king of Bavèlⓘ may come; both shall go forth from one land; and carve a handⓘ, a signpost, at the head of the road toward a city.

דרך תשים לבוא חרב את רבת בני עמון ואת יהודה בירושלם בצורה
ὁδοῦ διατάξεις τοῦ εἰσελθεῖν ῥομφαίαν ἐπὶ Ραββαθ υἱῶν Αμμων καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν Ιουδαίαν καὶ ἐπὶ Ιερουσαλημ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῆς.
Mark out the road for the sword to come against Rabbàt benè ʿAmmònⓘ and against Judah, against Jerusalem the fortified city.

כי עמד מלך בבל אל אם הדרך בראש שני הדרכים לקסם קסם קלקל בחצים שאל בתרפים ראה בכבד
διότι στήσεται βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχαίαν ὁδὸν ἐπ’ ἀρχῆς τῶν δύο ὁδῶν τοῦ μαντεύσασθαι μαντείαν, τοῦ ἀναβράσαι ῥάβδον καὶ ἐπερωτῆσαι ἐν τοῖς γλυπτοῖς καὶ ἡπατοσκοπήσασθαι ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ.
For the king of Bavèl has halted at the èm ha-dèrekhⓘ, at the crossroads of the two roads, to perform qèsemⓘ: he shakes the arrows, consults the terafìmⓘ, inspects the liver of the victim.

בימינו היה הקסם ירושלם לשום כרים לפתח פה ברצח להרים קול בתרועה לשום כרים על שערים לשפך סללה לבנות דיק
ἐγένετο τὸ μαντεῖον ἐπὶ Ιερουσαλημ τοῦ βαλεῖν χάρακα, τοῦ διανοῖξαι στόμα ἐν βοῇ, ὑψῶσαι φωνὴν μετὰ κραυγῆς, τοῦ βαλεῖν χάρακα ἐπὶ τὰς πύλας αὐτῆς καὶ βαλεῖν χῶμα καὶ οἰκοδομῆσαι βελοστάσεις.
In his right hand the lot falls upon Jerusalem: to set up battering ramsⓘ, to open the mouth for slaughter, to raise the battle cry, to set battering rams against the gates, to raise earthworks and build siege towers.

והיה להם כקסום כקסם שוא בעיניהם שבעי שבעות להם והוא מזכיר עון להתפש
καὶ αὐτὸς αὐτοῖς ὡς μαντευόμενος μαντείαν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν, καὶ αὐτὸς ἀναμιμνῄσκων ἀδικίας αὐτοῦ μνησθῆναι.
It will be to them like a false divination in their eyes — they have sworn solemn oaths —, but he calls their iniquity to mind, so that they may be captured.

לכן כה אמר אדני יהוה יען הזכרכם עונכם בהגלות פשעיכם להראות חטאותיכם בכל עלילותיכם יען הזכרכם בכף תתפשו
διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος Ἀνθ ὧν ἀνεμνήσατε τὰς ἀδικίας ὑμῶν ἐν τῷ ἀποκαλυφθῆναι τὰς ἀσεβείας ὑμῶν τοῦ ὁραθῆναι ἁμαρτίας ὑμῶν ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ἀσεβείαις ὑμῶν καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἐπιτηδεύμασιν ὑμῶν, ἀνθ’ ὧν ἀνεμνήσατε, ἐν τούτοις ἁλώσεσθε.
Therefore thus says the Lord the Tetragrammaton: Because you have made your iniquity to be remembered, your transgressions laid bare, your sins made visible in all your deeds — because remembrance has been made of them, you will be seized by an enemy hand.
30
ואתה חלל רשע נשיא ישראל אשר בא יומו בעת עון קץ
καὶ σύ, βέβηλε ἄνομε ἀφηγούμενε τοῦ Ισραηλ, οὗ ἥκει ἡ ἡμέρα, ἐν καιρῷ ἀδικίας πέρας,
And you, profane and wicked nasìⓘ of Israel, you whose day has come, at the time of the final punishment:
31
כה אמר אדני יהוה הסיר המצנפת והרים העטרה זאת לא זאת השפלה הגבה והגבה השפיל
τάδε λέγει κύριος Ἀφείλου τὴν κίδαριν καὶ ἐπέθου τὸν στέφανον· αὕτη οὐ τοιαύτη ἔσται· ἐταπείνωσας τὸ ὑψηλὸν καὶ τὸ ταπεινὸν ὕψωσας.
thus says the Lord the Tetragrammaton: Remove the mitznèfetⓘ, lift off the ʿataràhⓘ: nothing shall remain as it is; what is low shall be raised up, what is high shall be brought low.
32
עוה עוה עוה אשימנה גם זאת לא היה עד בא אשר לו המשפט ונתתיו
ἀδικίαν ἀδικίαν θήσομαι αὐτήν, οὐδ’ αὕτη τοιαύτη ἔσται, ἕως οὗ ἔλθῃ ᾧ καθήκει, καὶ παραδώσω αὐτῷ. –
ʿAwwà, ʿawwà, ʿawwàⓘ I will make of it: and not even this shall endure — until there comes the one to whom the right belongsⓘ, and to him I will give it.
33
ואתה בן אדם הנבא ואמרת כה אמר אדני יהוה אל בני עמון ואל חרפתם ואמרת חרב חרב פתוחה לטבח מרוטה להכיל למען ברק
καὶ σύ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, προφήτευσον καὶ ἐρεῖς Τάδε λέγει κύριος πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Αμμων καὶ πρὸς τὸν ὀνειδισμὸν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐρεῖς Ῥομφαία ῥομφαία ἐσπασμένη εἰς σφάγια καὶ ἐσπασμένη εἰς συντέλειαν, ἐγείρου ὅπως στίλβῃς
And you, ben adàm, prophesy and say against the sons of ʿAmmòn and against their reproach: Sword, sword drawn for slaughter, polished to devour and to flash lightning,
34
בחזות לך שוא בקסם לך כזב לתת אותך אל צוארי חללי רשעים אשר בא יומם בעת עון קץ
ἐν τῇ ὁράσει σου τῇ ματαίᾳ καὶ ἐν τῷ μαντεύεσθαί σε ψευδῆ τοῦ παραδοῦναί σε ἐπὶ τραχήλους τραυματιῶν ἀνόμων, ὧν ἥκει ἡ ἡμέρα, ἐν καιρῷ ἀδικίας πέρας.
while for you vanity is seen and falsehood is prophesied — to place you upon the necks of the wicked slain, whose day has come at the time of the final punishment.
35
השב אל תערה במקום אשר נבראת בארץ מכרותיך אשפט אתך
ἀπόστρεφε, μὴ καταλύσῃς ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ, ᾧ γεγέννησαι· ἐν τῇ γῇ τῇ ἰδίᾳ σου κρινῶ σε
Return to the sheath!ⓘ In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you;
36
ושפכתי עליך זעמי באש עברתי אפיח עליך ונתתיך ביד אנשים בערים חרשי משחית
καὶ ἐκχεῶ ἐπὶ σὲ ὀργήν μου, ἐν πυρὶ ὀργῆς μου ἐμφυσήσω ἐπὶ σὲ καὶ παραδώσω σε εἰς χεῖρας ἀνδρῶν βαρβάρων τεκταινόντων διαφθοράν.
I will pour out my indignation upon you, I will blow upon you with the fire of my wrath, and I will hand you over to brutish men, craftsmen of destruction.
37
לאש תהיה לאכלה דמך יהיה בתוך הארץ לא תזכרי כי אני יהוה דברתי
ἐν πυρὶ ἔσῃ κατάβρωμα, τὸ αἷμά σου ἔσται ἐν μέσῳ τῆς γῆς σου· οὐ μὴ γένηταί σου μνεία, διότι ἐγὼ κύριος λελάληκα.
You will be fuel for the fireⓘ; your blood will be in the midst of the land; you will be remembered no more: I, the Tetragrammaton, have spoken.
