בני שמר אמרי ומצותי תצפן אתך
a υἱέ, τίμα τὸν κύριον, καὶ ἰσχύσεις, πλὴν δὲ αὐτοῦ μὴ φοβοῦ ἄλλον.
My son, keep my words and store my commandmentsⓘ with you.
2
שמר מצותי וחיה ותורתי כאישון עיניך
φύλαξον ἐμὰς ἐντολάς, καὶ βιώσεις, τοὺς δὲ ἐμοὺς λόγους ὥσπερ κόρας ὀμμάτων·
Keep my commandments and liveⓘ, and my instructionⓘ as the apple of your eyeⓘ.

קשרם על אצבעתיך כתבם על לוח לבך
περίθου δὲ αὐτοὺς σοῖς δακτύλοις, ἐπίγραψον δὲ ἐπὶ τὸ πλάτος τῆς καρδίας σου.
Bind them on your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heartⓘ.

אמר לחכמה אחתי את ומדע לבינה תקרא
εἶπον τὴν σοφίαν σὴν ἀδελφὴν εἶναι, τὴν δὲ φρόνησιν γνώριμον περιποίησαι σεαυτῷ,
Say to wisdomⓘ: «You are my sister», and call understandingⓘ your kinswoman,

לשמרך מאשה זרה מנכריה אמריה החליקה
ἵνα σε τηρήσῃ ἀπὸ γυναικὸς ἀλλοτρίας καὶ πονηρᾶς, ἐάν σε λόγοις τοῖς πρὸς χάριν ἐμβάληται.
that she may keep you from the strange womanⓘ, from the foreign woman who has made smooth her words.

כי בחלון ביתי בעד אשנבי נשקפתי
ἀπὸ γὰρ θυρίδος ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτῆς εἰς τὰς πλατείας παρα κύπτουσα,
For at the window of my house, through my latticeⓘ, I looked out,
7
וארא בפתאים אבינה בבנים נער חסר לב
ὃν ἂν ἴδῃ τῶν ἀφρόνων τέκνων νεανίαν ἐνδεῆ φρενῶν
and I saw among the simple ones, I noticed among the youths a young man lacking senseⓘ,
8
עבר בשוק אצל פנה ודרך ביתה יצעד
παραπορευόμενον παρὰ γωνίαν ἐν διόδοις οἴκων αὐτῆς
passing through the street near her corner, and stepping toward her house,
9
בנשף בערב יום באישון לילה ואפלה
καὶ λαλοῦντα ἐν σκότει ἑσπερινῷ, ἡνίκα ἂν ἡσυχία νυκτερινὴ ᾖ καὶ γνοφώδης,
at twilightⓘ, as the day was declining, in the depth of night and darkness.

והנה אשה לקראתו שית זונה ונצרת לב
ἡ δὲ γυνὴ συναντᾷ αὐτῷ, εἶδος ἔχουσα πορνικόν, ἣ ποιεῖ νέων ἐξίπτασθαι καρδίας.
And behold, a woman came to meet him, in the attire of a harlotⓘ and with a wary heart.

המיה היא וסררת בביתה לא ישכנו רגליה
ἀνεπτερωμένη δέ ἐστιν καὶ ἄσωτος, ἐν οἴκῳ δὲ οὐχ ἡσυχάζουσιν οἱ πόδες αὐτῆς·
Boisterous and rebellious, her feet do not rest in her house:

פעם בחוץ פעם ברחבות ואצל כל פנה תארב
χρόνον γάρ τινα ἔξω ῥέμβεται, χρόνον δὲ ἐν πλατείαις παρὰ πᾶσαν γωνίαν ἐνεδρεύει.
now outside, now in the squares, and at every corner she lies in waitⓘ.

והחזיקה בו ונשקה לו העזה פניה ותאמר לו
εἶτα ἐπιλαβομένη ἐφίλησεν αὐτόν, ἀναιδεῖ δὲ προσώπῳ προσεῖπεν αὐτῷ
She seizes him and kisses him, and with a brazen face she says to him:

זבחי שלמים עלי היום שלמתי נדרי
Θυσία εἰρηνική μοί ἐστιν, σήμερον ἀποδίδωμι τὰς εὐχάς μου·
«Fellowship offeringsⓘ I had to bring, today I have fulfilled my vowsⓘ;
15
על כן יצאתי לקראתך לשחר פניך ואמצאך
ἕνεκα τούτου ἐξῆλθον εἰς συνάντησίν σοι, ποθοῦσα τὸ σὸν πρόσωπον εὕρηκά σε·
therefore I have come out to meet youⓘ, to seek your face, and I have found you.

מרבדים רבדתי ערשי חטבות אטון מצרים
κειρίαις τέτακα τὴν κλίνην μου, ἀμφιτάποις δὲ ἔστρωκα τοῖς ἀπ’ Αἰγύπτου·
I have adorned my bed with coveringsⓘ, with coloured linens from Egypt;

נפתי משכבי מר אהלים וקנמון
διέρραγκα τὴν κοίτην μου κρόκῳ, τὸν δὲ οἶκόν μου κινναμώμῳ·
I have sprinkled my couch with myrrhⓘ, with aloes and cinnamon.
18
לכה נרוה דדים עד הבקר נתעלסה באהבים
ἐλθὲ καὶ ἀπολαύσωμεν φιλίας ἕως ὄρθρου, δεῦρο καὶ ἐγκυλισθῶμεν ἔρωτι·
Come, let us drink our fill of loveⓘ until morning, let us delight ourselves with love:
19
כי אין האיש בביתו הלך בדרך מרחוק
οὐ γὰρ πάρεστιν ὁ ἀνήρ μου ἐν οἴκῳ, πεπόρευται δὲ ὁδὸν μακρὰν
for the manⓘ is not in his house, he has gone on a long journey,
20
צרור הכסף לקח בידו ליום הכסא יבא ביתו
ἔνδεσμον ἀργυρίου λαβὼν ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ, δι’ ἡμερῶν πολλῶν ἐπανήξει εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ.
he has taken a bag of silver in his hand, at the full moonⓘ he will return home».

הטתו ברב לקחה בחלק שפתיה תדיחנו
ἀπεπλάνησεν δὲ αὐτὸν πολλῇ ὁμιλίᾳ βρόχοις τε τοῖς ἀπὸ χειλέων ἐξώκειλεν αὐτόν.
With much persuasionⓘ she leads him astray, with the smoothness of her lips she drags him away.

הולך אחריה פתאם כשור אל טבח יבוא וכעכס אל מוסר אויל
ὁ δὲ ἐπηκολούθησεν αὐτῇ κεπφωθείς, ὥσπερ δὲ βοῦς ἐπὶ σφαγὴν ἄγεται καὶ ὥσπερ κύων ἐπὶ δεσμοὺς
He follows her suddenly, as an ox goes to the slaughterⓘ, as in fetters for the correction of a fool,

עד יפלח חץ כבדו כמהר צפור אל פח ולא ידע כי בנפשו הוא
ἢ ὡς ἔλαφος τοξεύματι πεπληγὼς εἰς τὸ ἧπαρ, σπεύδει δὲ ὥσπερ ὄρνεον εἰς παγίδα οὐκ εἰδὼς ὅτι περὶ ψυχῆς τρέχει.
until an arrow pierces his liverⓘ; as a bird hastens to the snare and does not know that it costs him his life.

ועתה בנים שמעו לי והקשיבו לאמרי פי
νῦν οὖν, υἱέ, ἄκουέ μου καὶ πρόσεχε ῥήμασιν στόματός μου·
And now, my sons, listen to me, and pay attention to the words of my mouth:
25
אל ישט אל דרכיה לבך אל תתע בנתיבותיה
μὴ ἐκκλινάτω εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτῆς ἡ καρδία σου·
do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, do not stray into her paths;
26
כי רבים חללים הפילה ועצמים כל הרגיה
πολλοὺς γὰρ τρώσασα καταβέβληκεν, καὶ ἀναρίθμητοί εἰσιν οὓς πεφόνευκεν·
for many are the slainⓘ she has struck down, and numerous are all those she has killed:
27
דרכי שאול ביתה ירדות אל חדרי מות
ὁδοὶ ᾅδου ὁ οἶκος αὐτῆς κατάγουσαι εἰς τὰ ταμίεια τοῦ θανάτου.
the ways of Sheol are her houseⓘ, going down to the chambers of death.
