מענה רך ישיב חמה ודבר עצב יעלה אף
ὀργὴ ἀπόλλυσιν καὶ φρονίμους, ἀπόκρισις δὲ ὑποπίπτουσα ἀποστρέφει θυμόν, λόγος δὲ λυπηρὸς ἐγείρει ὀργάς.
A ⓘ turns away fury, but a wounding word stirs up anger.

לשון חכמים תיטיב דעת ופי כסילים יביע אולת
γλῶσσα σοφῶν καλὰ ἐπίσταται, στόμα δὲ ἀφρόνων ἀναγγελεῖ κακά.
The tongue of the ⓘ commends knowledge, but the mouth of fools pours out ⓘ.

בכל מקום עיני יהוה צפות רעים וטובים
ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ὀφθαλμοὶ κυρίου, σκοπεύουσιν κακούς τε καὶ ἀγαθούς.
In every place the ⓘ watch over the wicked and the good.

מרפא לשון עץ חיים וסלף בה שבר ברוח
ἴασις γλώσσης δένδρον ζωῆς, ὁ δὲ συντηρῶν αὐτὴν πλησθήσεται πνεύματος.
A healing tongue is a ⓘ, but a twisted tongue ⓘ.

אויל ינאץ מוסר אביו ושמר תוכחת יערם
ἄφρων μυκτηρίζει παιδείαν πατρός, ὁ δὲ φυλάσσων ἐντολὰς πανουργότερος.
A fool despises ⓘ from his father; whoever heeds rebuke is prudent.

בית צדיק חסן רב ובתבואת רשע נעכרת
ἐν πλεοναζούσῃ δικαιοσύνῃ ἰσχὺς πολλή, οἱ δὲ ἀσεβεῖς ὁλόρριζοι ἐκ γῆς ὀλοῦνται. οἴκοις δικαίων ἰσχὺς πολλή, καρποὶ δὲ ἀσεβῶν ἀπολοῦνται.
In the house of the ⓘ there is great wealth, but in the gain of the wicked there is trouble.

שפתי חכמים יזרו דעת ולב כסילים לא כן
χείλη σοφῶν δέδεται αἰσθήσει, καρδίαι δὲ ἀφρόνων οὐκ ἀσφαλεῖς.
The lips of the wise scatter knowledge; not so the heart of fools.

זבח רשעים תועבת יהוה ותפלת ישרים רצונו
θυσίαι ἀσεβῶν βδέλυγμα κυρίῳ, εὐχαὶ δὲ κατευθυνόντων δεκταὶ παρ’ αὐτῷ.
The ⓘ is an abomination to the Tetragrammaton, but the ⓘ of the upright is his delight.

תועבת יהוה דרך רשע ומרדף צדקה יאהב
βδέλυγμα κυρίῳ ὁδοὶ ἀσεβοῦς, διώκοντας δὲ δικαιοσύνην ἀγαπᾷ.
An abomination to the Tetragrammaton is the ⓘ, but he loves the one who pursues ⓘ.

מוסר רע לעזב ארח שונא תוכחת ימות
παιδεία ἀκάκου γνωρίζεται ὑπὸ τῶν παριόντων, οἱ δὲ μισοῦντες ἐλέγχους τελευτῶσιν αἰσχρῶς.
Harsh ⓘ awaits him who forsakes the way; he who hates reproof will die.

שאול ואבדון נגד יהוה אף כי לבות בני אדם
ᾅδης καὶ ἀπώλεια φανερὰ παρὰ τῷ κυρίῳ, πῶς οὐχὶ καὶ αἱ καρδίαι τῶν ἀνθρώπων;
ⓘ and Abaddon lie open before the Tetragrammaton: how much more the ⓘ!

לא יאהב לץ הוכח לו אל חכמים לא ילך
οὐκ ἀγαπήσει ἀπαίδευτος τοὺς ἐλέγχοντας αὐτόν, μετὰ δὲ σοφῶν οὐχ ὁμιλήσει.
The ⓘ does not love him who reproves him; he will not go to the wise.

לב שמח ייטב פנים ובעצבת לב רוח נכאה
καρδίας εὐφραινομένης πρόσωπον θάλλει, ἐν δὲ λύπαις οὔσης σκυθρωπάζει.
A glad heart brightens the face, but by sorrow of heart the ⓘ.

לב נבון יבקש דעת ופני ופי כסילים ירעה אולת
καρδία ὀρθὴ ζητεῖ αἴσθησιν, στόμα δὲ ἀπαιδεύτων γνώσεται κακά.
The ⓘ heart seeks ⓘ, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.
15
כל ימי עני רעים וטוב לב משתה תמיד
πάντα τὸν χρόνον οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ τῶν κακῶν προσδέχονται κακά, οἱ δὲ ἀγαθοὶ ἡσυχάζουσιν διὰ παντός.
All the days of the ⓘ are evil, but a cheerful heart is a ⓘ.

טוב מעט ביראת יהוה מאוצר רב ומהומה בו
κρείσσων μικρὰ μερὶς μετὰ φόβου κυρίου ἢ θησαυροὶ μεγάλοι μετὰ ἀφοβίας.
ⓘ with ⓘ than great treasure with trouble.

טוב ארחת ירק ואהבה שם משור אבוס ושנאה בו
κρείσσων ξενισμὸς λαχάνων πρὸς φιλίαν καὶ χάριν ἢ παράθεσις μόσχων μετὰ ἔχθρας.
Better a ⓘ where love is, than a ⓘ where hatred is.

איש חמה יגרה מדון וארך אפים ישקיט ריב
a μακρόθυμος ἀνὴρ κατασβέσει κρίσεις, ὁ δὲ ἀσεβὴς ἐγείρει μᾶλλον.
An ⓘ stirs up strife, but the ⓘ calms contention.
19
דרך עצל כמשכת חדק וארח ישרים סללה
ὁδοὶ ἀεργῶν ἐστρωμέναι ἀκάνθαις, αἱ δὲ τῶν ἀνδρείων τετριμμέναι.
The way of the ⓘ is like a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright is a level highway.

בן חכם ישמח אב וכסיל אדם בוזה אמו
υἱὸς σοφὸς εὐφραίνει πατέρα, υἱὸς δὲ ἄφρων μυκτηρίζει μητέρα αὐτοῦ.
A wise son makes a father glad; a foolish man ⓘ.
21
אולת שמחה לחסר לב ואיש תבונה יישר לכת
ἀνοήτου τρίβοι ἐνδεεῖς φρενῶν, ἀνὴρ δὲ φρόνιμος κατευθύνων πορεύεται.
Folly is ⓘ to him who lacks sense, but a ⓘ walks uprightly.

הפר מחשבות באין סוד וברב יועצים תקום
ὑπερτίθενται λογισμοὺς οἱ μὴ τιμῶντες συνέδρια, ἐν δὲ καρδίαις βουλευομένων μένει βουλή.
ⓘ without counsel, but succeed with many ⓘ.
23
שמחה לאיש במענה פיו ודבר בעתו מה טוב
οὐ μὴ ὑπακούσῃ ὁ κακὸς αὐτῇ οὐδὲ μὴ εἴπῃ καίριόν τι καὶ καλὸν τῷ κοινῷ.
A man has joy in the answer of his mouth, and a ⓘ — how good it is!

ארח חיים למעלה למשכיל למען סור משאול מטה
ὁδοὶ ζωῆς διανοήματα συνετοῦ, ἵνα ἐκκλίνας ἐκ τοῦ ᾅδου σωθῇ.
The path of life leads upward for the ⓘ, to turn away from Sheol below.

בית גאים יסח יהוה ויצב גבול אלמנה
οἴκους ὑβριστῶν κατασπᾷ κύριος, ἐστήρισεν δὲ ὅριον χήρας.
The Tetragrammaton ⓘ, but he establishes the ⓘ.

תועבת יהוה מחשבות רע וטהרים אמרי נעם
βδέλυγμα κυρίῳ λογισμὸς ἄδικος, ἁγνῶν δὲ ῥήσεις σεμναί.
An abomination to the Tetragrammaton are ⓘ, but ⓘ are pure.
27
עכר ביתו בוצע בצע ושונא מתנת יחיה
a ἐλεημοσύναις καὶ πίστεσιν ἀποκαθαίρονται ἁμαρτίαι, τῷ δὲ φόβῳ κυρίου ἐκκλίνει πᾶς ἀπὸ κακοῦ.
He who is greedy for unjust gain ⓘ, but he who hates ⓘ will live.
28
לב צדיק יהגה לענות ופי רשעים יביע רעות
a δεκταὶ παρὰ κυρίῳ ὁδοὶ ἀνθρώπων δικαίων, διὰ δὲ αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ἐχθροὶ φίλοι γίνονται.
The heart of the righteous ⓘ, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil.
29
רחוק יהוה מרשעים ותפלת צדיקים ישמע
a κρείσσων ὀλίγη λῆμψις μετὰ δικαιοσύνης ἢ πολλὰ γενήματα μετὰ ἀδικίας.
The Tetragrammaton is far from the wicked, but he hears the ⓘ of the righteous.

מאור עינים ישמח לב שמועה טובה תדשן עצם
καρδία ἀνδρὸς λογιζέσθω δίκαια, ἵνα ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ διορθωθῇ τὰ διαβήματα αὐτοῦ. θεωρῶν ὀφθαλμὸς καλὰ εὐφραίνει καρδίαν, φήμη δὲ ἀγαθὴ πιαίνει ὀστᾶ.
The ⓘ gladdens the heart, and a ⓘ makes the bones fat.
