אשר היה דבר יהוה אל ירמיהו על דברי הבצרות
Καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρὸς Ιερεμιαν περὶ τῆς ἀβροχίας
The word of the Tetragrammaton that came to Yirmeyàhu concerning the ⓘ, in the days of the scorching heat.

אבלה יהודה ושעריה אמללו קדרו לארץ וצוחת ירושלם עלתה
Ἐπένθησεν ἡ Ιουδαία, καὶ αἱ πύλαι αὐτῆς ἐκενώθησαν καὶ ἐσκοτώθησαν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἡ κραυγὴ τῆς Ιερουσαλημ ἀνέβη.
Yehudàh is in mourning, and its gates ⓘ languish, prostrate on the ground in the dust, and the cry of anguish of Yerushalàyim has gone up.

ואדריהם שלחו צעוריהם צעיריהם למים באו על גבים לא מצאו מים שבו כליהם ריקם בשו והכלמו וחפו ראשם
καὶ οἱ μεγιστᾶνες αὐτῆς ἀπέστειλαν τοὺς νεωτέρους αὐτῶν ἐφ’ ὕδωρ· ἤλθοσαν ἐπὶ τὰ φρέατα καὶ οὐχ εὕροσαν ὕδωρ καὶ ἀπέστρεψαν τὰ ἀγγεῖα αὐτῶν κενά.
The notables, the leaders of the people, have sent their young servants ⓘ to seek water: they came to the cisterns but found no water; they returned with their vessels empty, dismayed and shamed, with their heads covered as a sign of disgrace.

בעבור האדמה חתה כי לא היה גשם בארץ בשו אכרים חפו ראשם
καὶ τὰ ἔργα τῆς γῆς ἐξέλιπεν, ὅτι οὐκ ἦν ὑετός· ᾐσχύνθησαν γεωργοί, ἐπεκάλυψαν τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν.
Because of the ground that is cracked and parched — for there has been no rain ⓘ in the land — the farmers are dismayed and cover their heads.

כי גם אילת בשדה ילדה ועזוב כי לא היה דשא
καὶ ἔλαφοι ἐν ἀγρῷ ἔτεκον καὶ ἐγκατέλιπον, ὅτι οὐκ ἦν βοτάνη.
Even the doe ⓘ in the open field, when she gives birth, abandons her young, because there is no grass.

ופראים עמדו על שפים שאפו רוח כתנים כלו עיניהם כי אין עשב
ὄνοι ἄγριοι ἔστησαν ἐπὶ νάπας· εἵλκυσαν ἄνεμον, ἐξέλιπον οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν, ὅτι οὐκ ἦν χόρτος ἀπὸ λαοῦ ἀδικίας. –
The wild donkeys ⓘ stand on the bare heights, sniffing the wind like jackals; their eyes grow dim for lack of sustenance, for there is no longer any green, no pasture at all.

אם עונינו ענו בנו יהוה עשה למען שמך כי רבו משובתינו לך חטאנו
εἰ αἱ ἁμαρτίαι ἡμῶν ἀντέστησαν ἡμῖν, κύριε, ποίησον ἡμῖν ἕνεκεν σοῦ, ὅτι πολλαὶ αἱ ἁμαρτίαι ἡμῶν ἐναντίον σοῦ, ὅτι σοὶ ἡμάρτομεν.
"Even if our guilt, our iniquities, testify against us ⓘ, Tetragrammaton, act for the sake of your Name ⓘ — not for our merit but for your glory and your faithfulness: for many are our apostasies ⓘ, and against you we have sinned.

מקוה ישראל מושיעו בעת צרה למה תהיה כגר בארץ וכארח נטה ללון
ὑπομονὴ Ισραηλ, κύριε, καὶ σῴζεις ἐν καιρῷ κακῶν· ἵνα τί ἐγενήθης ὡσεὶ πάροικος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ὡς αὐτόχθων ἐκκλίνων εἰς κατάλυμα;
Hope of Israèl ⓘ, its saviour in the time of distress: why have you become like a stranger ⓘ in the land, like a wayfarer who turns aside from the road only to spend a single night?

למה תהיה כאיש נדהם כגבור לא יוכל להושיע ואתה בקרבנו יהוה ושמך עלינו נקרא אל תנחנו
μὴ ἔσῃ ὥσπερ ἄνθρωπος ὑπνῶν ἢ ὡς ἀνὴρ οὐ δυνάμενος σῴζειν; καὶ σὺ ἐν ἡμῖν εἶ, κύριε, καὶ τὸ ὄνομά σου ἐπικέκληται ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς· μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ ἡμῶν. –
Why are you like a man stunned ⓘ, like a warrior who has no strength to save? Yet you are in our midst, Tetragrammaton, and your Name is called over us: do not abandon us!"

כה אמר יהוה לעם הזה כן אהבו לנוע רגליהם לא חשכו ויהוה לא רצם עתה יזכר עונם ויפקד חטאתם
οὕτως λέγει κύριος τῷ λαῷ τούτῳ Ἠγάπησαν κινεῖν πόδας αὐτῶν καὶ οὐκ ἐφείσαντο, καὶ ὁ θεὸς οὐκ εὐδόκησεν ἐν αὐτοῖς· νῦν μνησθήσεται τῶν ἀδικιῶν αὐτῶν.
Thus says the Tetragrammaton concerning this people: "So they have loved to wander ⓘ far from me, they have not restrained their feet; and the Tetragrammaton takes no pleasure in them: now he will remember their guilt and call their sins to account."

ויאמר יהוה אלי אל תתפלל בעד העם הזה לטובה
καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρός με Μὴ προσεύχου περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου εἰς ἀγαθά·
And the Tetragrammaton said to me: "Do not pray for this people ⓘ, do not intercede for their good.

כי יצמו אינני שמע אל רנתם וכי יעלו עלה ומנחה אינני רצם כי בחרב וברעב ובדבר אנכי מכלה אותם
ὅτι ἐὰν νηστεύσωσιν, οὐκ εἰσακούσομαι τῆς δεήσεως αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐὰν προσενέγκωσιν ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ θυσίας, οὐκ εὐδοκήσω ἐν αὐτοῖς, ὅτι ἐν μαχαίρᾳ καὶ ἐν λιμῷ καὶ ἐν θανάτῳ ἐγὼ συντελέσω αὐτούς.
When they fast I do not hear their cry; when they offer the olàh ⓘ and the minchàh, I take no pleasure in them: for by the sword, by famine and by pestilence I will consume them."

ואמר אהה אדני יהוה הנה הנבאים אמרים להם לא תראו חרב ורעב לא יהיה לכם כי שלום אמת אתן לכם במקום הזה
καὶ εἶπα Ὦ κύριε, ἰδοὺ οἱ προφῆται αὐτῶν προφητεύουσιν καὶ λέγουσιν Οὐκ ὄψεσθε μάχαιραν, οὐδὲ λιμὸς ἔσται ἐν ὑμῖν, ὅτι ἀλήθειαν καὶ εἰρήνην δώσω ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ.
And I said: "Alas, Lord Tetragrammaton ⓘ! Behold, the prophets are saying to them: You will not see the sword, you will not have famine, for I will give you true shalòm ⓘ in this place."

ויאמר יהוה אלי שקר הנבאים נבאים בשמי לא שלחתים ולא צויתים ולא דברתי אליהם חזון שקר וקסם ואלול ואליל ותרמות ותרמית לבם המה מתנבאים לכם
καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρός με Ψευδῆ οἱ προφῆται προφητεύουσιν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου, οὐκ ἀπέστειλα αὐτοὺς καὶ οὐκ ἐνετειλάμην αὐτοῖς καὶ οὐκ ἐλάλησα πρὸς αὐτούς· ὅτι ὁράσεις ψευδεῖς καὶ μαντείας καὶ οἰωνίσματα καὶ προαιρέσεις καρδίας αὐτῶν αὐτοὶ προφητεύουσιν ὑμῖν.
And the Tetragrammaton said to me: "These prophets prophesy falsehood in my Name ⓘ: I did not send them, I did not command them, I did not speak to them — lying vision, empty divination, the worthlessness and deceit of their own heart, that is what they prophesy to you."

לכן כה אמר יהוה על הנבאים הנבאים בשמי ואני לא שלחתים והמה אמרים חרב ורעב לא יהיה בארץ הזאת בחרב וברעב יתמו הנבאים ההמה
διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος περὶ τῶν προφητῶν τῶν προφητευόντων ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου ψευδῆ, καὶ ἐγὼ οὐκ ἀπέστειλα αὐτούς, οἳ λέγουσιν Μάχαιρα καὶ λιμὸς οὐκ ἔσται ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ταύτης Ἐν θανάτῳ νοσερῷ ἀποθανοῦνται, καὶ ἐν λιμῷ συντελεσθήσονται οἱ προφῆται·
Therefore thus says the Tetragrammaton concerning the prophets who prophesy in my Name though I did not send them, who say: Sword and famine shall not be in this land — it is by sword and famine ⓘ that those prophets shall meet their end.

והעם אשר המה נבאים להם יהיו משלכים בחצות ירושלם מפני הרעב והחרב ואין מקבר להמה המה נשיהם ובניהם ובנתיהם ושפכתי עליהם את רעתם
καὶ ὁ λαός, οἷς αὐτοὶ προφητεύουσιν αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἔσονται ἐρριμμένοι ἐν ταῖς διόδοις Ιερουσαλημ ἀπὸ προσώπου μαχαίρας καὶ τοῦ λιμοῦ, καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ θάπτων αὐτούς, καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν καὶ αἱ θυγατέρες αὐτῶν· καὶ ἐκχεῶ ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς τὰ κακὰ αὐτῶν.
And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out ⓘ into the streets of Yerushalàyim because of the famine and the sword, with no one to bury them — they, their wives, their sons and their daughters —: and I will pour out upon them their own wickedness.

ואמרת אליהם את הדבר הזה תרדנה עיני דמעה לילה ויומם ואל תדמינה כי שבר גדול נשברה בתולת בת עמי מכה נחלה מאד
καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτοὺς τὸν λόγον τοῦτον Καταγάγετε ἐπ’ ὀφθαλμοὺς ὑμῶν δάκρυα ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτός, καὶ μὴ διαλιπέτωσαν, ὅτι συντρίμματι συνετρίβη θυγάτηρ λαοῦ μου καὶ πληγῇ ὀδυνηρᾷ σφόδρα.
And you shall say to them this word: "Let my eyes run down with tears ⓘ, night and day without ceasing, and let them not stop: for with a great fracture the virgin daughter of my people ⓘ has been broken, struck by a very grievous wound."

אם יצאתי השדה והנה חללי חרב ואם באתי העיר והנה תחלואי רעב כי גם נביא גם כהן סחרו אל ארץ ולא ידעו
ἐὰν ἐξέλθω εἰς τὸ πεδίον, καὶ ἰδοὺ τραυματίαι μαχαίρας, καὶ ἐὰν εἰσέλθω εἰς τὴν πόλιν, καὶ ἰδοὺ πόνος λιμοῦ· ὅτι ἱερεὺς καὶ προφήτης ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς γῆν, ἣν οὐκ ᾔδεισαν. –
If I go out into the field, behold those slain by the sword; and if I enter the city, behold the ravages of famine: for even the kohèn ⓘ and the prophet wander through a land they do not know.

המאס מאסת את יהודה אם בציון געלה נפשך מדוע הכיתנו ואין לנו מרפא קוה לשלום ואין טוב ולעת מרפא והנה בעתה
μὴ ἀποδοκιμάζων ἀπεδοκίμασας τὸν Ιουδαν, καὶ ἀπὸ Σιων ἀπέστη ἡ ψυχή σου; ἵνα τί ἔπαισας ἡμᾶς, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἡμῖν ἴασις; ὑπεμείναμεν εἰς εἰρήνην, καὶ οὐκ ἦν ἀγαθά· εἰς καιρὸν ἰάσεως, καὶ ἰδοὺ ταραχή.
Have you utterly rejected ⓘ Yehudàh? Has your soul loathed Tziòn? Why have you struck us so that there is no healing for us? We hoped for shalòm, and there is no good; we waited for the time of healing ⓘ, and behold, instead, terror.

ידענו יהוה רשענו עון אבותינו כי חטאנו לך
ἔγνωμεν, κύριε, ἁμαρτήματα ἡμῶν, ἀδικίας πατέρων ἡμῶν, ὅτι ἡμάρτομεν ἐναντίον σου.
We acknowledge, Tetragrammaton, our wickedness and the guilt of our fathers: we have sinned against you.
21
אל תנאץ למען שמך אל תנבל כסא כבודך זכר אל תפר בריתך אתנו
κόπασον διὰ τὸ ὄνομά σου, μὴ ἀπολέσῃς θρόνον δόξης σου· μνήσθητι, μὴ διασκεδάσῃς τὴν διαθήκην σου τὴν μεθ’ ἡμῶν.
Do not despise ⓘ for the sake of your Name; do not dishonour the throne of your glory; remember, do not break your berìt ⓘ, your covenant with us.

היש בהבלי הגוים מגשמים ואם השמים יתנו רבבים הלא אתה הוא יהוה אלהינו ונקוה לך כי אתה עשית את כל אלה
μὴ ἔστιν ἐν εἰδώλοις τῶν ἐθνῶν ὑετίζων; καὶ εἰ ὁ οὐρανὸς δώσει πλησμονὴν αὐτοῦ; οὐχὶ σὺ εἶ αὐτός; καὶ ὑπομενοῦμέν σε, ὅτι σὺ ἐποίησας πάντα ταῦτα.
Are there among the worthless idols ⓘ of the nations any that make it rain? Or do the heavens alone give the downpours? Is it not you, you alone, the Tetragrammaton our God? In you we hope, for you alone have done all these things.
