וישמע הכנעני מלך ערד ישב הנגב כי בא ישראל דרך האתרים וילחם בישראל וישב ממנו שבי
Καὶ ἤκουσεν ὁ Χανανις βασιλεὺς Αραδ ὁ κατοικῶν κατὰ τὴν ἔρημον – ἦλθεν γὰρ Ισραηλ ὁδὸν Αθαριν – καὶ ἐπολέμησεν πρὸς Ισραηλ καὶ κατεπρονόμευσαν ἐξ αὐτῶν αἰχμαλωσίαν.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And the Canaanite Arad, the king Aradⓘ, who dwelt by the wildernessⓘ, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atarìn, and he made war against Israel and took captives as spoil from themⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And the Canaanite, king of Aradⓘ, who dwelt in the Neghebⓘ, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atarìmⓘ; and he fought against Israel and took some prisonersⓘ.

וידר ישראל נדר ליהוה ויאמר אם נתן תתן את העם הזה בידי והחרמתי את עריהם
καὶ ηὔξατο Ισραηλ εὐχὴν κυρίῳ καὶ εἶπεν Ἐάν μοι παραδῷς τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον ὑποχείριον, ἀναθεματιῶ αὐτὸν καὶ τὰς πόλεις αὐτοῦ.
And Israel made a vow to the Tetragrammatonⓘ and said: If you will indeed give this people into my handⓘ, then I will devote to destructionⓘ their cities.

וישמע יהוה בקול ישראל ויתן את הכנעני ויחרם אתהם ואת עריהם ויקרא שם המקום חרמה
καὶ εἰσήκουσεν κύριος τῆς φωνῆς Ισραηλ καὶ παρέδωκεν τὸν Χανανιν ὑποχείριον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀνεθεμάτισεν αὐτὸν καὶ τὰς πόλεις αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐπεκάλεσαν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου Ἀνάθεμα.
And the Tetragrammaton heard the voice of Israelⓘ and gave the Canaanite into his hand, and he devoted them to destructionⓘ together with their cities; and he called the name of that place Chormàhⓘ.

ויסעו מהר ההר דרך ים סוף לסבב את ארץ אדום ותקצר נפש העם בדרך
Καὶ ἀπάραντες ἐξ Ωρ τοῦ ὄρους ὁδὸν ἐπὶ θάλασσαν ἐρυθρὰν περιεκύκλωσαν γῆν Εδωμ· καὶ ὠλιγοψύχησεν ὁ λαὸς ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ.
And they set out from Mount Horⓘ by the way of the Sea of Sufⓘ, to go around the land of Edòmⓘ; and the soul of the people grew shortⓘ because of the way.

וידבר העם באלהים ובמשה למה העליתנו ממצרים למות במדבר כי אין לחם ואין מים ונפשנו קצה בלחם הקלקל
καὶ κατελάλει ὁ λαὸς πρὸς τὸν θεὸν καὶ κατὰ Μωυσῆ λέγοντες Ἵνα τί ἐξήγαγες ἡμᾶς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἀποκτεῖναι ἡμᾶς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ; ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἄρτος οὐδὲ ὕδωρ, ἡ δὲ ψυχὴ ἡμῶν προσώχθισεν ἐν τῷ ἄρτῳ τῷ διακένῳ.
And the people spoke against God and against Moshehⓘ: Why have you brought us up out of Egyptⓘ to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread nor any water, and our soul loathesⓘ this worthless foodⓘ.

וישלח יהוה בעם את הנחשים השרפים וינשכו את העם וימת עם רב מישראל
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν κύριος εἰς τὸν λαὸν τοὺς ὄφεις τοὺς θανατοῦντας, καὶ ἔδακνον τὸν λαόν, καὶ ἀπέθανεν λαὸς πολὺς τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ.
And the Tetragrammaton sent against the people the burning serpentsⓘ; and they bit the people, and many people of Israel diedⓘ.

ויבא העם אל משה ויאמרו חטאנו כי דברנו ביהוה ובך התפלל אל יהוה ויסר מעלינו את הנחש ויתפלל משה בעד העם
καὶ παραγενόμενος ὁ λαὸς πρὸς Μωυσῆν ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἡμάρτομεν ὅτι κατελαλήσαμεν κατὰ τοῦ κυρίου καὶ κατὰ σοῦ· εὖξαι οὖν πρὸς κύριον, καὶ ἀφελέτω ἀφ’ ἡμῶν τὸν ὄφιν. καὶ ηὔξατο Μωϋσῆς πρὸς κύριον περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ.
And the people came to Mosheh and said: We have sinnedⓘ, for we have spoken against the Tetragrammaton and against you; pray to the Tetragrammatonⓘ that he may remove the serpent from us. And Mosheh prayed on behalf of the peopleⓘ.

ויאמר יהוה אל משה עשה לך שרף ושים אתו על נס והיה כל הנשוך וראה אתו וחי
καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Ποίησον σεαυτῷ ὄφιν καὶ θὲς αὐτὸν ἐπὶ σημείου, καὶ ἔσται ἐὰν δάκῃ ὄφις ἄνθρωπον, πᾶς ὁ δεδηγμένος ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ζήσεται.
And the Tetragrammaton said to Mosheh: Make yourself a sarafⓘ and set it on a poleⓘ; and it shall come to pass that whoever has been bitten, let him look at it and liveⓘ.

ויעש משה נחש נחשת וישמהו על הנס והיה אם נשך הנחש את איש והביט אל נחש הנחשת וחי
καὶ ἐποίησεν Μωϋσῆς ὄφιν χαλκοῦν καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ σημείου, καὶ ἐγένετο ὅταν ἔδακνεν ὄφις ἄνθρωπον, καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν ἐπὶ τὸν ὄφιν τὸν χαλκοῦν καὶ ἔζη.
And Mosheh made a serpent of bronzeⓘ and set it on the pole; and it came to pass that, if the serpent had bitten a man, he gazed intently at the serpent of bronze and livedⓘ.

ויסעו בני ישראל ויחנו באבת
Καὶ ἀπῆραν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ παρενέβαλον ἐν Ωβωθ.
And the sons of Israel set out and encamped at Ovòtⓘ.
11
ויסעו מאבת ויחנו בעיי העברים במדבר אשר על פני מואב ממזרח השמש
καὶ ἐξάραντες ἐξ Ωβωθ παρενέβαλον ἐν Αχελγαι ἐκ τοῦ πέραν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἥ ἐστιν κατὰ πρόσωπον Μωαβ κατὰ ἀνατολὰς ἡλίου.
And they set out from Ovòt and encamped at Iyyè-haʿAvarìmⓘ in the wilderness that is opposite Moàv, toward the rising of the sunⓘ.

משם נסעו ויחנו בנחל זרד
ἐκεῖθεν ἀπῆραν καὶ παρενέβαλον εἰς φάραγγα Ζαρετ.
From there they set out and encamped in the brook Zèredⓘ.
13
משם נסעו ויחנו מעבר ארנון אשר במדבר היצא מגבול האמרי כי ארנון גבול מואב בין מואב ובין האמרי
καὶ ἐκεῖθεν ἀπάραντες παρενέβαλον εἰς τὸ πέραν Αρνων ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τὸ ἐξέχον ἀπὸ τῶν ὁρίων τῶν Αμορραίων· ἔστιν γὰρ Αρνων ὅρια Μωαβ ἀνὰ μέσον Μωαβ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ Αμορραίου.
From there they set out and encamped beyond the Arnònⓘ, which is in the wilderness and comes out from the border of the Emorèoⓘ; for the Arnòn is the border of Moàv, between Moàv and the Emorèoⓘ.

על כן יאמר בספר מלחמת יהוה את והב בסופה ואת הנחלים ארנון
διὰ τοῦτο λέγεται ἐν βιβλίῳ Πόλεμος τοῦ κυρίου τὴν Ζωοβ ἐφλόγισεν καὶ τοὺς χειμάρρους Αρνων,
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——Therefore it is said in the book: **«The War of the Tetragrammaton set Zoòb ablazeⓘ, and the brooks of the Arnòn,—— Masoretic (MT) ——Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the Tetragrammatonⓘ: Vahèv in Sufàhⓘ and the brooks of the Arnònⓘ,

ואשד הנחלים אשר נטה לשבת ער ונשען לגבול מואב
καὶ τοὺς χειμάρρους κατέστησεν κατοικίσαι Ηρ καὶ πρόσκειται τοῖς ὁρίοις Μωαβ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——and the brooks he set he set them to make Er dwell thereⓘ to make Er dwell there, and it leans against the borders of Moàv».—— Masoretic (MT) ——and the slope of the brooksⓘ that inclines toward the seat of Arⓘ and leans against the border of Moàv.

ומשם בארה הוא הבאר אשר אמר יהוה למשה אסף את העם ואתנה להם מים
καὶ ἐκεῖθεν τὸ φρέαρ· τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ φρέαρ, ὃ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Συνάγαγε τὸν λαόν, καὶ δώσω αὐτοῖς ὕδωρ πιεῖν.
And from there to the wellⓘ: this is the well of which the Tetragrammaton said to Mosheh: Gather the people and I will give them waterⓘ.

אז ישיר ישראל את השירה הזאת עלי באר ענו לה
τότε ᾖσεν Ισραηλ τὸ ᾆσμα τοῦτο ἐπὶ τοῦ φρέατος Ἐξάρχετε αὐτῷ·
Then Israel sang this songⓘ: Spring up, O well!ⓘ, sing to it in chorusⓘ!

באר חפרוה שרים כרוה נדיבי העם במחקק במשענתם וממדבר מתנה
φρέαρ, ὤρυξαν αὐτὸ ἄρχοντες, ἐξελατόμησαν αὐτὸ βασιλεῖς ἐθνῶν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτῶν, ἐν τῷ κυριεῦσαι αὐτῶν. καὶ ἀπὸ φρέατος εἰς Μανθαναιν·
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——A well which the princes dug, which kings of nationsⓘ hewed out in their kingdom, when they had dominion. And from the well to Mattanàin;—— Masoretic (MT) ——A well which the princes dugⓘ, which the nobles of the people openedⓘ with the scepter, with their staffsⓘ. And from the wilderness to Mattanàhⓘ,

וממתנה נחליאל ומנחליאל במות
καὶ ἀπὸ Μανθαναιν εἰς Νααλιηλ· καὶ ἀπὸ Νααλιηλ εἰς Βαμωθ·
and from Mattanàh to Nachalièlⓘ, and from Nachalièl to Bamòtⓘ,

ומבמות הגיא אשר בשדה מואב ראש הפסגה ונשקפה על פני הישימן
καὶ ἀπὸ Βαμωθ εἰς νάπην, ἥ ἐστιν ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ Μωαβ ἀπὸ κορυφῆς τοῦ λελαξευμένου τὸ βλέπον κατὰ πρόσωπον τῆς ἐρήμου.
and from Bamòt to the valleyⓘ that is in the field of Moàv, on the summit of the Pisgàhⓘ, which looks toward the Yeshimònⓘ.

וישלח ישראל מלאכים אל סיחן מלך האמרי לאמר
Καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Μωϋσῆς πρέσβεις πρὸς Σηων βασιλέα Αμορραίων λόγοις εἰρηνικοῖς λέγων
And Israel sent messengersⓘ to Sichòn king of the Emorèoⓘ, to say:
22
אעברה בארצך לא נטה בשדה ובכרם לא נשתה מי באר בדרך המלך נלך עד אשר נעבר גבלך
Παρελευσόμεθα διὰ τῆς γῆς σου· τῇ ὁδῷ πορευσόμεθα, οὐκ ἐκκλινοῦμεν οὔτε εἰς ἀγρὸν οὔτε εἰς ἀμπελῶνα, οὐ πιόμεθα ὕδωρ ἐκ φρέατός σου· ὁδῷ βασιλικῇ πορευσόμεθα, ἕως παρέλθωμεν τὰ ὅριά σου.
Let me pass through your landⓘ; we will not turn aside into the fields or into the vineyardsⓘ, we will not drink water from a well; by the king's highway we will walkⓘ, until we have passed your border.

ולא נתן סיחן את ישראל עבר בגבלו ויאסף סיחן את כל עמו ויצא לקראת ישראל המדברה ויבא יהצה וילחם בישראל
καὶ οὐκ ἔδωκεν Σηων τῷ Ισραηλ παρελθεῖν διὰ τῶν ὁρίων αὐτοῦ, καὶ συνήγαγεν Σηων πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξῆλθεν παρατάξασθαι τῷ Ισραηλ εἰς τὴν ἔρημον καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς Ιασσα καὶ παρετάξατο τῷ Ισραηλ.
And Sichòn did not let Israel passⓘ through his border; and Sichòn gathered all his people and went out against Israelⓘ into the wilderness; and he came to Yàhatzⓘand fought against Israel.

ויכהו ישראל לפי חרב ויירש את ארצו מארנן עד יבק עד בני עמון כי עז גבול בני עמון
καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτὸν Ισραηλ φόνῳ μαχαίρης καὶ κατεκυρίευσαν τῆς γῆς αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ Αρνων ἕως Ιαβοκ ἕως υἱῶν Αμμαν· ὅτι Ιαζηρ ὅρια υἱῶν Αμμων ἐστίν.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Israel struck him with the slaughter of the sword and took possession of his land from the Arnòn to the Yabbòk, as far as the sons of Ammàn; for Iazèrⓘ is the border of the sons of Ammòn.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And Israel struck him with the edge of the swordⓘ and took his land as an inheritanceⓘ from the Arnòn to the Yabbòqⓘ, as far as the sons of Ammònⓘ; for the border of the sons of Ammòn was strongⓘ.

ויקח ישראל את כל הערים האלה וישב ישראל בכל ערי האמרי בחשבון ובכל בנתיה
καὶ ἔλαβεν Ισραηλ πάσας τὰς πόλεις ταύτας, καὶ κατῴκησεν Ισραηλ ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν τῶν Αμορραίων, ἐν Εσεβων καὶ ἐν πάσαις ταῖς συγκυρούσαις αὐτῇ.
And Israel took all these cities; and Israel settled in all the cities of the Emorèo, in Cheshbònⓘ and in all its dependenciesⓘ.

כי חשבון עיר סיחן מלך האמרי הוא והוא נלחם במלך מואב הראשון ויקח את כל ארצו מידו עד ארנן
ἔστιν γὰρ Εσεβων πόλις Σηων τοῦ βασιλέως τῶν Αμορραίων, καὶ οὗτος ἐπολέμησεν βασιλέα Μωαβ τὸ πρότερον καὶ ἔλαβον πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ Αροηρ ἕως Αρνων.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——For Esebòn was the city of Seòn king of the Amorites, and he had fought against the king of Moàv beforehand and they had taken all his land from Aroèrⓘ to the Arnòn.—— Masoretic (MT) ——For Cheshbòn was the city of Sichòn, king of the Emorèo, and he had fought against the first king of Moàvⓘ and had taken from him all his land to the Arnòn.

על כן יאמרו המשלים באו חשבון תבנה ותכונן עיר סיחון
διὰ τοῦτο ἐροῦσιν οἱ αἰνιγματισταί Ἔλθετε εἰς Εσεβων, ἵνα οἰκοδομηθῇ καὶ κατασκευασθῇ πόλις Σηων.
Therefore the poetsⓘ say: Come to Cheshbòn, let it be rebuilt and establishedⓘthe city of Sichòn!

כי אש יצאה מחשבון להבה מקרית סיחן אכלה ער מואב בעלי במות ארנן
ὅτι πῦρ ἐξῆλθεν ἐξ Εσεβων, φλὸξ ἐκ πόλεως Σηων καὶ κατέφαγεν ἕως Μωαβ καὶ κατέπιεν στήλας Αρνων.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——For a fire went out from Esebòn, a flame from the city of Seòn, and it devoured as far as Moàv and swallowed up the stelae of the Arnònⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——For a fire went out from Cheshbònⓘ, a flame from the city of Sichònⓘ; it devoured Ar of Moàvⓘ, the lords of the high places of the Arnònⓘ.

אוי לך מואב אבדת עם כמוש נתן בניו פליטם ובנתיו בשבית למלך אמרי סיחון
οὐαί σοι, Μωαβ· ἀπώλου, λαὸς Χαμως. ἀπεδόθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν διασῴζεσθαι καὶ αἱ θυγατέρες αὐτῶν αἰχμάλωτοι τῷ βασιλεῖ τῶν Αμορραίων Σηων·
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——Woe to you, Moàv! You are lost, people of Kemòsh! They were handed over they were handed over to escapeⓘ their sons to escape, and their daughters as captives to Seòn, king of the Amorites;—— Masoretic (MT) ——Woe to you, Moàv!ⓘ You are lost, people of Kemòshⓘ! He has given his sons as fugitivesⓘ and his daughters into captivityⓘto the king of the Emorèo, Sichòn.

ונירם אבד חשבון עד דיבון ונשים עד נפח אשר עד מידבא
καὶ τὸ σπέρμα αὐτῶν ἀπολεῖται, Εσεβων ἕως Δαιβων, καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες ἔτι προσεξέκαυσαν πῦρ ἐπὶ Μωαβ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——and their offspring will perishⓘ, Esebòn as far as Daibòn, and the women the women kindled fire still furtherⓘ kindled fire still further upon Moàv.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And we have shot them downⓘ; Cheshbòn is lost as far as Divònⓘ; we have laid waste as far as Nòfachⓘ, which is near Medvàⓘ.

וישב ישראל בארץ האמרי
Κατῴκησεν δὲ Ισραηλ ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν τῶν Αμορραίων.
And Israel settled in the land of the Emorèoⓘ.
32
וישלח משה לרגל את יעזר וילכדו בנתיה ויירש ויורש את האמרי אשר שם
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Μωϋσῆς κατασκέψασθαι τὴν Ιαζηρ, καὶ κατελάβοντο αὐτὴν καὶ τὰς κώμας αὐτῆς καὶ ἐξέβαλον τὸν Αμορραῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα ἐκεῖ. –
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Mosheh sent to scout Iazèr, and they took it, with its villages, and they drove out the Amorite who dwelt thereⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And Mosheh sent to scout Yaʿzèrⓘ; and they took its dependenciesⓘ and drove out the Emorèoⓘ that was there.

ויפנו ויעלו דרך הבשן ויצא עוג מלך הבשן לקראתם הוא וכל עמו למלחמה אדרעי
καὶ ἐπιστρέψαντες ἀνέβησαν ὁδὸν τὴν εἰς Βασαν· καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ωγ βασιλεὺς τῆς Βασαν εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῖς καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς αὐτοῦ εἰς πόλεμον εἰς Εδραιν.
And they turned and went up by the way of Bashànⓘ; and Og king of Bashànⓘ came out against them, he and all his people, in battle at Edrèiⓘ.

ויאמר יהוה אל משה אל תירא אתו כי בידך נתתי אתו ואת כל עמו ואת ארצו ועשית לו כאשר עשית לסיחן מלך האמרי אשר יושב בחשבון
καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Μὴ φοβηθῇς αὐτόν, ὅτι εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου παραδέδωκα αὐτὸν καὶ πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ποιήσεις αὐτῷ καθὼς ἐποίησας τῷ Σηων βασιλεῖ τῶν Αμορραίων, ὃς κατῴκει ἐν Εσεβων.
And the Tetragrammaton said to Mosheh: Do not fear himⓘ, for into your hand I have given himⓘ, him, all his people and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sichòn, king of the Emorèo, who dwelt in Cheshbònⓘ.
35
ויכו אתו ואת בניו ואת כל עמו עד בלתי השאיר לו שריד ויירשו את ארצו
καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτὸν καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἕως τοῦ μὴ καταλιπεῖν αὐτοῦ ζωγρείαν· καὶ ἐκληρονόμησαν τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν.
And they struck him, him, his sons and all his people, until none was left to him as a survivorⓘ; and they took his land as an inheritanceⓘ.
