Orthodox Readingand he said: «When you act as midwives to the Hebrew women, look upon the two stonesⓘ: if it is a sonⓘ, put him to death; if it is a daughter, let her live».

Orthodox ReadingAnd the midwives feared Godⓘ and did not do as the king of Mitzràyim had told them, and they let the children live.

Orthodox ReadingAnd the midwives answered Pharaoh: «Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women: they are vigorousⓘ, before the midwife comes to them they have already given birth».

Orthodox ReadingAnd Godⓘ dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied and became very mighty.

Orthodox ReadingAnd Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying: «Every son that is bornⓘ of the Hebrews, cast him into the Nileⓘ; every daughter let her live».
