Orthodox Reading
1
κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσεν τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν; καὶ ὁ βραχίων κυρίου τίνι ἀπεκαλύφθη;
Who has believed our announcementⓘ? And to whom has the arm of the Tetragrammatonⓘ been revealed?
2
He grew up before him like a tender shootⓘ, like a root from arid groundⓘ; he had no form or splendor that we should look at him, nor beauty that we should desire him.
3
Despisedⓘ and rejected by men, a man of sorrowsⓘ and acquainted with infirmity (viduaʿ chòli), who knows sickness (the LXX reads εἰδὼς φέρειν μαλακίαν, "who knows how to bear infirmity"); like one from whom people hide their faces, he was despised and we esteemed him not.
4
Yet trulyⓘ he bore our infirmitiesⓘ and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him strickenⓘ, smitten by God and afflicted.
5
But he was piercedⓘ for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peaceⓘ was upon him, and by his bruisingⓘ we have been healed.
6
We all like sheep (tzon) were wandering, each following his own way; and the Tetragrammatonⓘ laid upon him the iniquity of us all.
7
He was oppressed, yet he allowed himself to be humbledⓘ and did not open his mouth; like a lambⓘ led to the slaughter, like a eweⓘ mute before its shearers, he did not open his mouth.
8
By oppression and judgmentⓘ he was taken away; and as for his generationⓘ, who gave it any thought? He was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people (ʿammi) he was struck to death: the guilt belongs to the people, the penalty falls on him.
9
They assigned his grave with the wickedⓘ and with the richⓘ in his death, although he had committed no violence (chamàs) nor was there deceitⓘ in his mouth.
10
Yet the Tetragrammatonⓘ was pleased to crush himⓘ, he made him suffer; when he offers himself as a guilt offeringⓘ, he shall see a offspringⓘ, he shall prolong his days, and through his hand the pleasure of the Tetragrammatonⓘ shall prosper.
11
Out of the anguish of his soulⓘ he shall see lightⓘ and be satisfied; by his knowledge the Righteous One, my servantⓘ shall make many righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.
12
Therefore I will divide him a portion among the many (rabbìm), and with the mighty he shall divide the spoil, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered among the transgressorsⓘ; yet he bore the sin of many and makes intercession for the transgressors.
