נחמו נחמו עמי יאמר אלהיכם
Παρακαλεῖτε παρακαλεῖτε τὸν λαόν μου, λέγει ὁ θεός.
Comfort, comfort my peopleⓘ, says your God.

דברו על לב ירושלם וקראו אליה כי מלאה צבאה כי נרצה עונה כי לקחה מיד יהוה כפלים בכל חטאתיה
ἱερεῖς, λαλήσατε εἰς τὴν καρδίαν Ιερουσαλημ, παρακαλέσατε αὐτήν· ὅτι ἐπλήσθη ἡ ταπείνωσις αὐτῆς, λέλυται αὐτῆς ἡ ἁμαρτία· ὅτι ἐδέξατο ἐκ χειρὸς κυρίου διπλᾶ τὰ ἁμαρτήματα αὐτῆς.
Speak to the heartⓘ of Jerusalem and cry to her that her serviceⓘ is completed, that her guilt is expiated, that she has received from the hand of the Tetragrammatonⓘ double for all her sins.

קול קורא במדבר פנו דרך יהוה ישרו בערבה מסלה לאלהינו
φωνὴ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν κυρίου, εὐθείας ποιεῖτε τὰς τρίβους τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν·
A voice of one crying: In the wildernessⓘ prepare the way of the Tetragrammatonⓘ, make straight in the Arabah a highway for our God.

כל גיא ינשא וכל הר וגבעה ישפלו והיה העקב למישור והרכסים לבקעה
πᾶσα φάραγξ πληρωθήσεται καὶ πᾶν ὄρος καὶ βουνὸς ταπεινωθήσεται, καὶ ἔσται πάντα τὰ σκολιὰ εἰς εὐθεῖαν καὶ ἡ τραχεῖα εἰς πεδία·
Every valleyⓘ shall be lifted up and every mountain and hill shall be made low; the rugged ground shall become a plainⓘ and the steep places an open valley.

ונגלה כבוד יהוה וראו כל בשר יחדו כי פי יהוה דבר
καὶ ὀφθήσεται ἡ δόξα κυρίου, καὶ ὄψεται πᾶσα σὰρξ τὸ σωτήριον τοῦ θεοῦ· ὅτι κύριος ἐλάλησεν.
And the glory of the Tetragrammatonⓘ shall be revealed, and all flesh together shall see that the mouth of the Tetragrammatonⓘ has spoken.

קול אמר קרא ואמר מה אקרא כל הבשר חציר וכל חסדו כציץ השדה
φωνὴ λέγοντος Βόησον· καὶ εἶπα Τί βοήσω; Πᾶσα σὰρξ χόρτος, καὶ πᾶσα δόξα ἀνθρώπου ὡς ἄνθος χόρτου·
A voice says: "Cry out!" And one answers: "What shall I cry?" All flesh is grassⓘ and all its goodnessⓘ is like the flower of the field.

יבש חציר נבל ציץ כי רוח יהוה נשבה בו אכן חציר העם
ἐξηράνθη ὁ χόρτος, καὶ τὸ ἄνθος ἐξέπεσεν,
The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Tetragrammatonⓘ blows upon it: truly the people is grass.

יבש חציר נבל ציץ ודבר אלהינו יקום לעולם
τὸ δὲ ῥῆμα τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands foreverⓘ.

על הר גבה עלי לך מבשרת ציון הרימי בכח קולך מבשרת ירושלם הרימי אל תיראי אמרי לערי יהודה הנה אלהיכם
ἐπ’ ὄρος ὑψηλὸν ἀνάβηθι, ὁ εὐαγγελιζόμενος Σιων· ὕψωσον τῇ ἰσχύι τὴν φωνήν σου, ὁ εὐαγγελιζόμενος Ιερουσαλημ· ὑψώσατε, μὴ φοβεῖσθε· εἰπὸν ταῖς πόλεσιν Ιουδα Ἰδοὺ ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν.
Climb up on a high mountain, O herald of good news to Zionⓘ; lift up your voice with strength, messenger of Jerusalem; lift it up, do not fear, say to the cities of Judah: Behold your Godⓘ.

הנה אדני יהוה בחזק יבוא וזרעו משלה לו הנה שכרו אתו ופעלתו לפניו
ἰδοὺ κύριος μετὰ ἰσχύος ἔρχεται καὶ ὁ βραχίων μετὰ κυριείας, ἰδοὺ ὁ μισθὸς αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸ ἔργον ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ.
Behold, the Lord Adonaiⓘ comes with power and his armⓘ rules; behold, his rewardⓘ is with him and before him his recompense.

כרעה עדרו ירעה בזרעו יקבץ טלאים ובחיקו ישא עלות ינהל
ὡς ποιμὴν ποιμανεῖ τὸ ποίμνιον αὐτοῦ καὶ τῷ βραχίονι αὐτοῦ συνάξει ἄρνας καὶ ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσας παρακαλέσει.
Like a shepherd he will tend his flockⓘ; with his arm he will gather the lambs, carry them on his bosom, and gently lead those that are nursing.

מי מדד בשעלו מים ושמים בזרת תכן וכל בשלש עפר הארץ ושקל בפלס הרים וגבעות במאזנים
Τίς ἐμέτρησεν τῇ χειρὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ τὸν οὐρανὸν σπιθαμῇ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν δρακί; τίς ἔστησεν τὰ ὄρη σταθμῷ καὶ τὰς νάπας ζυγῷ;
Who measured the waters in the hollow of his handⓘ and marked off the heavens with a span, and enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills with a balanceⓘ?

מי תכן את רוח יהוה ואיש עצתו יודיענו
τίς ἔγνω νοῦν κυρίου, καὶ τίς αὐτοῦ σύμβουλος ἐγένετο, ὃς συμβιβᾷ αὐτόν;
Who has directed the spirit of the Tetragrammatonⓘ, and what man has made known to him his counsel?

את מי נועץ ויבינהו וילמדהו בארח משפט וילמדהו דעת ודרך תבונות יודיענו
ἢ πρὸς τίνα συνεβουλεύσατο καὶ συνεβίβασεν αὐτόν; ἢ τίς ἔδειξεν αὐτῷ κρίσιν; ἢ ὁδὸν συνέσεως τίς ἔδειξεν αὐτῷ;
With whom did he take counsel to receive understanding, and who taught him the path of judgmentⓘ, and taught him knowledge and showed him the way of understanding?

הן גוים כמר מדלי וכשחק מאזנים נחשבו הן איים כדק יטול
εἰ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ὡς σταγὼν ἀπὸ κάδου καὶ ὡς ῥοπὴ ζυγοῦ ἐλογίσθησαν, καὶ ὡς σίελος λογισθήσονται·
Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucketⓘ, they count as dust on scales; behold, he lifts up the islandsⓘ like fine dust.
16
ולבנון אין די בער וחיתו אין די עולה
ὁ δὲ Λίβανος οὐχ ἱκανὸς εἰς καῦσιν, καὶ πάντα τὰ τετράποδα οὐχ ἱκανὰ εἰς ὁλοκάρπωσιν,
Lebanonⓘ would not suffice for fuel, nor its beasts for a burnt offering.
17
כל הגוים כאין נגדו מאפס ותהו נחשבו לו
καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ὡς οὐδέν εἰσι καὶ εἰς οὐθὲν ἐλογίσθησαν.
All the nations are as nothingⓘ before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.

ואל מי תדמיון אל ומה דמות תערכו לו
τίνι ὡμοιώσατε κύριον καὶ τίνι ὁμοιώματι ὡμοιώσατε αὐτόν;
To whom then will you liken Godⓘ, or what likeness will you compare to him?
19
הפסל נסך חרש וצרף בזהב ירקענו ורתקות כסף צורף
μὴ εἰκόνα ἐποίησεν τέκτων, ἢ χρυσοχόος χωνεύσας χρυσίον περιεχρύσωσεν αὐτόν, ὁμοίωμα κατεσκεύασεν αὐτόν;
The idolⓘ? The craftsman casts it, the goldsmith overlays it with gold and solders silver chains onto it.

המסכן תרומה עץ לא ירקב יבחר חרש חכם יבקש לו להכין פסל לא ימוט
ξύλον γὰρ ἄσηπτον ἐκλέγεται τέκτων καὶ σοφῶς ζητεῖ πῶς στήσει αὐτοῦ εἰκόνα καὶ ἵνα μὴ σαλεύηται.
He who is too poor for such an offering chooses a wood that will not rotⓘ, and seeks out a skilled craftsman to set up an idol that will not totterⓘ.

הלוא תדעו הלוא תשמעו הלוא הגד מראש לכם הלוא הבינתם מוסדות הארץ
οὐ γνώσεσθε; οὐκ ἀκούσεσθε; οὐκ ἀνηγγέλη ἐξ ἀρχῆς ὑμῖν; οὐκ ἔγνωτε τὰ θεμέλια τῆς γῆς;
Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginningⓘ? Have you not understood the foundations of the earth?
22
הישב על חוג הארץ וישביה כחגבים הנוטה כדק שמים וימתחם כאהל לשבת
ὁ κατέχων τὸν γῦρον τῆς γῆς, καὶ οἱ ἐνοικοῦντες ἐν αὐτῇ ὡς ἀκρίδες, ὁ στήσας ὡς καμάραν τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ διατείνας ὡς σκηνὴν κατοικεῖν,
He sits above the circle of the earthⓘ, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppersⓘ; he stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them out like a tentⓘ to dwell in.

הנותן רוזנים לאין שפטי ארץ כתהו עשה
ὁ διδοὺς ἄρχοντας εἰς οὐδὲν ἄρχειν, τὴν δὲ γῆν ὡς οὐδὲν ἐποίησεν.
He brings princes to nothing and makes the judges of the earthⓘ as emptiness.
24
אף בל נטעו אף בל זרעו אף בל שרש בארץ גזעם וגם נשף בהם ויבשו וסערה כקש תשאם
οὐ γὰρ μὴ σπείρωσιν οὐδὲ μὴ φυτεύσωσιν, οὐδὲ μὴ ῥιζωθῇ εἰς τὴν γῆν ἡ ῥίζα αὐτῶν· ἔπνευσεν ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐξηράνθησαν, καὶ καταιγὶς ὡς φρύγανα ἀναλήμψεται αὐτούς.
Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blowsⓘ upon them and they wither, and the whirlwind carries them off like stubble.
25
ואל מי תדמיוני ואשוה יאמר קדוש
νῦν οὖν τίνι με ὡμοιώσατε καὶ ὑψωθήσομαι; εἶπεν ὁ ἅγιος.
"To whom then will you compare me, that I should be his equal?" says the Holy Oneⓘ.

שאו מרום עיניכם וראו מי ברא אלה המוציא במספר צבאם לכלם בשם יקרא מרב אונים ואמיץ כח איש לא נעדר
ἀναβλέψατε εἰς ὕψος τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ὑμῶν καὶ ἴδετε· τίς κατέδειξεν πάντα ταῦτα; ὁ ἐκφέρων κατὰ ἀριθμὸν τὸν κόσμον αὐτοῦ πάντας ἐπ’ ὀνόματι καλέσει· ἀπὸ πολλῆς δόξης καὶ ἐν κράτει ἰσχύος οὐδέν σε ἔλαθεν.
Lift up your eyes on high and seeⓘ: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calls them all by nameⓘ; by the greatness of his might and the strength of his power not one is missing.
27
למה תאמר יעקב ותדבר ישראל נסתרה דרכי מיהוה ומאלהי משפטי יעבור
Μὴ γὰρ εἴπῃς, Ιακωβ, καὶ τί ἐλάλησας, Ισραηλ Ἀπεκρύβη ἡ ὁδός μου ἀπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ ὁ θεός μου τὴν κρίσιν ἀφεῖλεν καὶ ἀπέστη;
Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel: "Hidden is my way from the Tetragrammatonⓘ, and my right is disregarded by my God"?
28
הלוא ידעת אם לא שמעת אלהי עולם יהוה בורא קצות הארץ לא ייעף ולא ייגע אין חקר לתבונתו
καὶ νῦν οὐκ ἔγνως εἰ μὴ ἤκουσας; θεὸς αἰώνιος ὁ θεὸς ὁ κατασκευάσας τὰ ἄκρα τῆς γῆς, οὐ πεινάσει οὐδὲ κοπιάσει, οὐδὲ ἔστιν ἐξεύρεσις τῆς φρονήσεως αὐτοῦ·
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The everlasting God is the Tetragrammatonⓘ, Creator of the ends of the earth; he does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchableⓘ.
29
נתן ליעף כח ולאין אונים עצמה ירבה
διδοὺς τοῖς πεινῶσιν ἰσχὺν καὶ τοῖς μὴ ὀδυνωμένοις λύπην.
He gives strength to the wearyⓘ and increases power to those who have no might.
30
ויעפו נערים ויגעו ובחורים כשול יכשלו
πεινάσουσιν γὰρ νεώτεροι, καὶ κοπιάσουσιν νεανίσκοι, καὶ ἐκλεκτοὶ ἀνίσχυες ἔσονται·
Even youths grow faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
31
וקוי יהוה יחליפו כח יעלו אבר כנשרים ירוצו ולא ייגעו ילכו ולא ייעפו
οἱ δὲ ὑπομένοντες τὸν θεὸν ἀλλάξουσιν ἰσχύν, πτεροφυήσουσιν ὡς ἀετοί, δραμοῦνται καὶ οὐ κοπιάσουσιν, βαδιοῦνται καὶ οὐ πεινάσουσιν.
but those who hope in the Tetragrammaton shall renew their strengthⓘ, they shall mount up with wings like eaglesⓘ, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
