וישמע יתרו כהן מדין חתן משה את כל אשר עשה אלהים למשה ולישראל עמו כי הוציא יהוה את ישראל ממצרים
Ἤκουσεν δὲ Ιοθορ ὁ ἱερεὺς Μαδιαμ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ πάντα, ὅσα ἐποίησεν κύριος Ισραηλ τῷ ἑαυτοῦ λαῷ· ἐξήγαγεν γὰρ κύριος τὸν Ισραηλ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And ⓘ Iothòr, the priest of Madiàm, the father-in-law of Moshè, all that the ⓘ had done for ⓘ: for the Tetragrammaton had brought Israel out of Egypt.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And ⓘ Yitro, priest of Madyàn, father-in-law of Moshè, all that ⓘ had done for Moshè and for Yisraèl his people: for the ⓘ had brought Yisraèl out of Egypt.

ויקח יתרו חתן משה את צפרה אשת משה אחר שלוחיה
ἔλαβεν δὲ Ιοθορ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ Σεπφωραν τὴν γυναῖκα Μωυσῆ μετὰ τὴν ἄφεσιν αὐτῆς
And Yitro, father-in-law of Moshè, took ⓘ, the wife of Moshè, after her ⓘ.

ואת שני בניה אשר שם האחד גרשם כי אמר גר הייתי בארץ נכריה
καὶ τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ· ὄνομα τῷ ἑνὶ αὐτῶν Γηρσαμ λέγων Πάροικος ἤμην ἐν γῇ ἀλλοτρίᾳ·
And her ⓘ, of whom the name of the first was ⓘ — for he had said: «A stranger (gèr, גֵּר) have I been in a foreign land».

ושם האחד אליעזר כי אלהי אבי בעזרי ויצלני מחרב פרעה
καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ δευτέρου Ελιεζερ λέγων Ὁ γὰρ θεὸς τοῦ πατρός μου βοηθός μου καὶ ἐξείλατό με ἐκ χειρὸς Φαραω.
And the name of the second was ⓘ — for the God of my father was my help and ⓘ me from the sword of Par'oh.

ויבא יתרו חתן משה ובניו ואשתו אל משה אל המדבר אשר הוא חנה שם הר האלהים
καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ιοθορ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ καὶ ἡ γυνὴ πρὸς Μωυσῆν εἰς τὴν ἔρημον, οὗ παρενέβαλεν ἐπ’ ὄρους τοῦ θεοῦ.
And Yitro, father-in-law of Moshè, came with his sons and his wife to Moshè in the wilderness, where he was encamped: the ⓘ.

ויאמר אל משה אני חתנך יתרו בא אליך ואשתך ושני בניה עמה
ἀνηγγέλη δὲ Μωυσεῖ λέγοντες Ἰδοὺ ὁ γαμβρός σου Ιοθορ παραγίνεται πρὸς σέ, καὶ ἡ γυνὴ καὶ οἱ δύο υἱοί σου μετ’ αὐτοῦ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——ⓘ to Moshè, saying: «ⓘ, your father-in-law Iothòr is coming to you, and the wife and your ⓘ with him».—— Masoretic (MT) ——And he said to Moshè: «I, your father-in-law Yitro, come to you, and your wife and her ⓘ are with her».

ויצא משה לקראת חתנו וישתחו וישק לו וישאלו איש לרעהו לשלום ויבאו האהלה
ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Μωϋσῆς εἰς συνάντησιν τῷ γαμβρῷ αὐτοῦ καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐφίλησεν αὐτόν, καὶ ἠσπάσαντο ἀλλήλους· καὶ εἰσήγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν σκηνήν.
And Moshè went out to meet his father-in-law, ⓘ and kissed him; ⓘ and entered the tent.

ויספר משה לחתנו את כל אשר עשה יהוה לפרעה ולמצרים על אודת ישראל את כל התלאה אשר מצאתם בדרך ויצלם יהוה
καὶ διηγήσατο Μωϋσῆς τῷ γαμβρῷ πάντα, ὅσα ἐποίησεν κύριος τῷ Φαραω καὶ τοῖς Αἰγυπτίοις ἕνεκεν τοῦ Ισραηλ, καὶ πάντα τὸν μόχθον τὸν γενόμενον αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ καὶ ὅτι ἐξείλατο αὐτοὺς κύριος ἐκ χειρὸς Φαραω καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν Αἰγυπτίων.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Moshè ⓘ to his father-in-law all that the ⓘ had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the ⓘ that had befallen them along the way, ⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And Moshè told his father-in-law all that the ⓘ had done to Par'oh and to Egypt for Yisraèl's sake, all the ⓘ that had struck them on the way, and how the ⓘ had snatched them away.

ויחד יתרו על כל הטובה אשר עשה יהוה לישראל אשר הצילו מיד מצרים
ἐξέστη δὲ Ιοθορ ἐπὶ πᾶσι τοῖς ἀγαθοῖς, οἷς ἐποίησεν αὐτοῖς κύριος, ὅτι ἐξείλατο αὐτοὺς ἐκ χειρὸς Αἰγυπτίων καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς Φαραω.
And Yitro ⓘ over all the good that the ⓘ had done for Yisraèl, in having delivered him from the hand of Egypt.

ויאמר יתרו ברוך יהוה אשר הציל אתכם מיד מצרים ומיד פרעה אשר הציל את העם מתחת יד מצרים
καὶ εἶπεν Ιοθορ Εὐλογητὸς κύριος, ὅτι ἐξείλατο τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἐκ χειρὸς Αἰγυπτίων καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς Φαραω·
And Yitro said: «ⓘ be the ⓘ, who has delivered you from the hand of Egypt and from the hand of Par'oh, who has delivered the people ⓘ of Egypt.

עתה ידעתי כי גדול יהוה מכל האלהים כי בדבר אשר זדו עליהם
νῦν ἔγνων ὅτι μέγας κύριος παρὰ πάντας τοὺς θεούς, ἕνεκεν τούτου ὅτι ἐπέθεντο αὐτοῖς.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——ⓘ that great is the ⓘ above all the ⓘ, ⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——ⓘ that great is the ⓘ more than all the ⓘ — for in the very matter in which they acted with ⓘ against them».

ויקח יתרו חתן משה עלה וזבחים לאלהים ויבא אהרן וכל זקני ישראל לאכל לחם עם חתן משה לפני האלהים
καὶ ἔλαβεν Ιοθορ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ θυσίας τῷ θεῷ· παρεγένετο δὲ Ααρων καὶ πάντες οἱ πρεσβύτεροι Ισραηλ συμφαγεῖν ἄρτον μετὰ τοῦ γαμβροῦ Μωυσῆ ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ.
And Yitro, father-in-law of Moshè, took an offering, an ⓘ and ⓘ for ⓘ; and Aharòn and all the elders of Yisraèl came to eat bread with the father-in-law of Moshè ⓘ.

ויהי ממחרת וישב משה לשפט את העם ויעמד העם על משה מן הבקר עד הערב
Καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν ἐπαύριον συνεκάθισεν Μωϋσῆς κρίνειν τὸν λαόν· παρειστήκει δὲ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς Μωυσεῖ ἀπὸ πρωίθεν ἕως ἑσπέρας.
And it was the next day: Moshè sat to ⓘ, and the people stood before Moshè from morning until evening.

וירא חתן משה את כל אשר הוא עשה לעם ויאמר מה הדבר הזה אשר אתה עשה לעם מדוע אתה יושב לבדך וכל העם נצב עליך מן בקר עד ערב
καὶ ἰδὼν Ιοθορ πάντα, ὅσα ἐποίει τῷ λαῷ, λέγει Τί τοῦτο, ὃ σὺ ποιεῖς τῷ λαῷ; διὰ τί σὺ κάθησαι μόνος, πᾶς δὲ ὁ λαὸς παρέστηκέν σοι ἀπὸ πρωίθεν ἕως δείλης;
And the father-in-law of Moshè saw all that he was doing for the people, and said: «What is this thing that you do for the people? Why do you sit ⓘ, while all the people stand before you from morning until evening?».

ויאמר משה לחתנו כי יבא אלי העם לדרש אלהים
καὶ λέγει Μωϋσῆς τῷ γαμβρῷ ὅτι Παραγίνεται πρός με ὁ λαὸς ἐκζητῆσαι κρίσιν παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ·
And Moshè said to his father-in-law: «Because the people come to me to ⓘ.

כי יהיה להם דבר בא אלי ושפטתי בין איש ובין רעהו והודעתי את חקי האלהים ואת תורתיו
ὅταν γὰρ γένηται αὐτοῖς ἀντιλογία καὶ ἔλθωσι πρός με, διακρίνω ἕκαστον καὶ συμβιβάζω αὐτοὺς τὰ προστάγματα τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τὸν νόμον αὐτοῦ.
When they have a ⓘ, they come to me and I judge between a man and his neighbor, and I make known the ⓘ and his ⓘ».

ויאמר חתן משה אליו לא טוב הדבר אשר אתה עשה
εἶπεν δὲ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ πρὸς αὐτόν Οὐκ ὀρθῶς σὺ ποιεῖς τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο·
And the father-in-law of Moshè said to him: «ⓘ is the thing that you do.
18
נבל תבל גם אתה גם העם הזה אשר עמך כי כבד ממך הדבר לא תוכל עשהו לבדך
φθορᾷ καταφθαρήσῃ ἀνυπομονήτῳ καὶ σὺ καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς οὗτος, ὅς ἐστιν μετὰ σοῦ· βαρύ σοι τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο, οὐ δυνήσῃ ποιεῖν μόνος.
ⓘ both you and also this people that is with you, for ⓘ: you cannot do it alone.

עתה שמע בקלי איעצך ויהי אלהים עמך היה אתה לעם מול האלהים והבאת אתה את הדברים אל האלהים
νῦν οὖν ἄκουσόν μου, καὶ συμβουλεύσω σοι, καὶ ἔσται ὁ θεὸς μετὰ σοῦ. γίνου σὺ τῷ λαῷ τὰ πρὸς τὸν θεὸν καὶ ἀνοίσεις τοὺς λόγους αὐτῶν πρὸς τὸν θεὸν
Now ⓘ, I will give you counsel, and ⓘ. Be you for the people before ⓘ, and bring you the cases before God;
20
והזהרתה אתהם את החקים ואת התורת והודעת להם את הדרך ילכו בה ואת המעשה אשר יעשון
καὶ διαμαρτυρῇ αὐτοῖς τὰ προστάγματα τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τὸν νόμον αὐτοῦ καὶ σημανεῖς αὐτοῖς τὰς ὁδούς, ἐν αἷς πορεύσονται ἐν αὐταῖς, καὶ τὰ ἔργα, ἃ ποιήσουσιν.
and ⓘ them the statutes and the instruction, and make known to them the ⓘ in which they must walk and the work that they must do.

ואתה תחזה מכל העם אנשי חיל יראי אלהים אנשי אמת שנאי בצע ושמת עלהם שרי אלפים שרי מאות שרי חמשים ושרי עשרת
καὶ σὺ σεαυτῷ σκέψαι ἀπὸ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ ἄνδρας δυνατοὺς θεοσεβεῖς, ἄνδρας δικαίους μισοῦντας ὑπερηφανίαν, καὶ καταστήσεις αὐτοὺς ἐπ’ αὐτῶν χιλιάρχους καὶ ἑκατοντάρχους καὶ πεντηκοντάρχους καὶ δεκαδάρχους,
And you shall ⓘ from all the people ⓘ, ⓘ, ⓘ, ⓘ; and set them over them as leaders of thousands, leaders of hundreds, leaders of fifties and leaders of tens.
22
ושפטו את העם בכל עת והיה כל הדבר הגדל יביאו אליך וכל הדבר הקטן ישפטו הם והקל מעליך ונשאו אתך
καὶ κρινοῦσιν τὸν λαὸν πᾶσαν ὥραν· τὸ δὲ ῥῆμα τὸ ὑπέρογκον ἀνοίσουσιν ἐπὶ σέ, τὰ δὲ βραχέα τῶν κριμάτων κρινοῦσιν αὐτοὶ καὶ κουφιοῦσιν ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ συναντιλήμψονταί σοι.
And they shall judge the people ⓘ; every great case they shall bring to you, every small case they themselves shall judge: ⓘ and let them bear the burden with you.

אם את הדבר הזה תעשה וצוך אלהים ויכלת עמד וגם כל העם הזה על מקמו יבא בשלום
ἐὰν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ποιήσῃς, κατισχύσει σε ὁ θεός, καὶ δυνήσῃ παραστῆναι, καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς οὗτος εἰς τὸν ἑαυτοῦ τόπον μετ’ εἰρήνης ἥξει.
If you do this thing, ⓘ, you will be able to endure and also all this people ⓘ.

וישמע משה לקול חתנו ויעש כל אשר אמר
ἤκουσεν δὲ Μωϋσῆς τῆς φωνῆς τοῦ γαμβροῦ καὶ ἐποίησεν ὅσα αὐτῷ εἶπεν.
And Moshè listened to the ⓘ and did all that he had said.

ויבחר משה אנשי חיל מכל ישראל ויתן אתם ראשים על העם שרי אלפים שרי מאות שרי חמשים ושרי עשרת
καὶ ἐπέλεξεν Μωϋσῆς ἄνδρας δυνατοὺς ἀπὸ παντὸς Ισραηλ καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτοὺς ἐπ’ αὐτῶν χιλιάρχους καὶ ἑκατοντάρχους καὶ πεντηκοντάρχους καὶ δεκαδάρχους,
And Moshè chose men of valor from all Yisraèl and set them as ⓘ: leaders of thousands, leaders of hundreds, leaders of fifties and leaders of tens.
26
ושפטו את העם בכל עת את הדבר הקשה יביאון אל משה וכל הדבר הקטן ישפוטו הם
καὶ ἐκρίνοσαν τὸν λαὸν πᾶσαν ὥραν· πᾶν δὲ ῥῆμα ὑπέρογκον ἀνεφέροσαν ἐπὶ Μωυσῆν, πᾶν δὲ ῥῆμα ἐλαφρὸν ἐκρίνοσαν αὐτοί.
And they judged the people at all times: the ⓘ they brought to Moshè, every small case they themselves judged.
27
וישלח משה את חתנו וילך לו אל ארצו
ἐξαπέστειλεν δὲ Μωϋσῆς τὸν ἑαυτοῦ γαμβρόν, καὶ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ.
And Moshè ⓘ his father-in-law, and he went to his own land.
