וילך איש מבית לוי ויקח את בת לוי
Ἦν δέ τις ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Λευι, ὃς ἔλαβεν τῶν θυγατέρων Λευι καὶ ἔσχεν αὐτήν.
A man of the house of Levi went and tookⓘ a daughter of Levi.

ותהר האשה ותלד בן ותרא אתו כי טוב הוא ותצפנהו שלשה ירחים
καὶ ἐν γαστρὶ ἔλαβεν καὶ ἔτεκεν ἄρσεν· ἰδόντες δὲ αὐτὸ ἀστεῖον ἐσκέπασαν αὐτὸ μῆνας τρεῖς.
The woman conceived and bore a son; and she sawⓘ that he was goodⓘ, and she hidⓘ him for three months.

ולא יכלה עוד הצפינו ותקח לו תבת גמא ותחמרה בחמר ובזפת ותשם בה את הילד ותשם בסוף על שפת היאר
ἐπεὶ δὲ οὐκ ἠδύναντο αὐτὸ ἔτι κρύπτειν, ἔλαβεν αὐτῷ ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ θῖβιν καὶ κατέχρισεν αὐτὴν ἀσφαλτοπίσσῃ καὶ ἐνέβαλεν τὸ παιδίον εἰς αὐτὴν καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὴν εἰς τὸ ἕλος παρὰ τὸν ποταμόν.
Being no longer able to keep him hidden, she took for him a basket of papyrusⓘ and smeared it with bitumen and pitchⓘ; she placed the child in it and set it among the reedsⓘ on the bank of the Nile.

ותתצב אחתו מרחק לדעה מה יעשה לו
καὶ κατεσκόπευεν ἡ ἀδελφὴ αὐτοῦ μακρόθεν μαθεῖν, τί τὸ ἀποβησόμενον αὐτῷ.
His sisterⓘ stationed herself at a distance to know what would happen to him.

ותרד בת פרעה לרחץ על היאר ונערתיה הלכת על יד היאר ותרא את התבה בתוך הסוף ותשלח את אמתה ותקחה
κατέβη δὲ ἡ θυγάτηρ Φαραω λούσασθαι ἐπὶ τὸν ποταμόν, καὶ αἱ ἅβραι αὐτῆς παρεπορεύοντο παρὰ τὸν ποταμόν· καὶ ἰδοῦσα τὴν θῖβιν ἐν τῷ ἕλει ἀποστείλασα τὴν ἅβραν ἀνείλατο αὐτήν.
The daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the Nile, and her maidservantsⓘ walked along the bank of the Nile; she saw the basket in the midst of the reeds and sent her servant to fetch it.

ותפתח ותראהו את הילד והנה נער בכה ותחמל עליו ותאמר מילדי העברים זה
ἀνοίξασα δὲ ὁρᾷ παιδίον κλαῖον ἐν τῇ θίβει, καὶ ἐφείσατο αὐτοῦ ἡ θυγάτηρ Φαραω καὶ ἔφη Ἀπὸ τῶν παιδίων τῶν Εβραίων τοῦτο.
She opened it and sawⓘ the child: and beholdⓘ, a boy who was weeping. She had compassion on himⓘ and said: «This is one of the children of the Hebrews».

ותאמר אחתו אל בת פרעה האלך וקראתי לך אשה מינקת מן העברית ותינק לך את הילד
καὶ εἶπεν ἡ ἀδελφὴ αὐτοῦ τῇ θυγατρὶ Φαραω Θέλεις καλέσω σοι γυναῖκα τροφεύουσαν ἐκ τῶν Εβραίων καὶ θηλάσει σοι τὸ παιδίον;
Then his sister said to the daughter of Pharaoh: «Shall I go and call for you a nurseⓘ from among the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?».

ותאמר לה בת פרעה לכי ותלך העלמה ותקרא את אם הילד
ἡ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ἡ θυγάτηρ Φαραω Πορεύου. ἐλθοῦσα δὲ ἡ νεᾶνις ἐκάλεσεν τὴν μητέρα τοῦ παιδίου.
The daughter of Pharaoh answered her: «Go». The young womanⓘ went and called the mother of the child.

ותאמר לה בת פרעה היליכי את הילד הזה והינקהו לי ואני אתן את שכרך ותקח האשה הילד ותניקהו
εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὴν ἡ θυγάτηρ Φαραω Διατήρησόν μοι τὸ παιδίον τοῦτο καὶ θήλασόν μοι αὐτό, ἐγὼ δὲ δώσω σοι τὸν μισθόν. ἔλαβεν δὲ ἡ γυνὴ τὸ παιδίον καὶ ἐθήλαζεν αὐτό.
The daughter of Pharaoh said to her: «Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wagesⓘ». The woman took the child and nursed him.

ויגדל הילד ותבאהו לבת פרעה ויהי לה לבן ותקרא שמו משה ותאמר כי מן המים משיתהו
ἁδρυνθέντος δὲ τοῦ παιδίου εἰσήγαγεν αὐτὸ πρὸς τὴν θυγατέρα Φαραω, καὶ ἐγενήθη αὐτῇ εἰς υἱόν· ἐπωνόμασεν δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Μωυσῆν λέγουσα Ἐκ τοῦ ὕδατος αὐτὸν ἀνειλόμην.
The child grewⓘ, and she brought him to the daughter of Pharaoh, and he became to her like a son. She called his name Moshèhⓘ, saying: «Because from the waters I drew him outⓘ».

ויהי בימים ההם ויגדל משה ויצא אל אחיו וירא בסבלתם וירא איש מצרי מכה איש עברי מאחיו
Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταῖς πολλαῖς ἐκείναις μέγας γενόμενος Μωϋσῆς ἐξήλθεν πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ. κατανοήσας δὲ τὸν πόνον αὐτῶν ὁρᾷ ἄνθρωπον Αἰγύπτιον τύπτοντά τινα Εβραῖον τῶν ἑαυτοῦ ἀδελφῶν τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ·
It came to pass in those days that Moshèh, having grown up, went out to his brothersⓘ and saw their burdensⓘ; and he saw an Egyptian who was strikingⓘ a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

ויפן כה וכה וירא כי אין איש ויך את המצרי ויטמנהו בחול
περιβλεψάμενος δὲ ὧδε καὶ ὧδε οὐχ ὁρᾷ οὐδένα καὶ πατάξας τὸν Αἰγύπτιον ἔκρυψεν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἄμμῳ.
He looked this way and that and, seeing that there was no oneⓘ, he struck the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

ויצא ביום השני והנה שני אנשים עברים נצים ויאמר לרשע למה תכה רעך
ἐξελθὼν δὲ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ δευτέρᾳ ὁρᾷ δύο ἄνδρας Εβραίους διαπληκτιζομένους καὶ λέγει τῷ ἀδικοῦντι Διὰ τί σὺ τύπτεις τὸν πλησίον;
He went out the next day, and behold two Hebrew men who were quarrelingⓘ; he said to the guilty oneⓘ: «Why do you strike your neighbor?».

ויאמר מי שמך לאיש שר ושפט עלינו הלהרגני אתה אמר כאשר הרגת את המצרי ויירא משה ויאמר אכן נודע הדבר
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Τίς σε κατέστησεν ἄρχοντα καὶ δικαστὴν ἐφ’ ἡμῶν; μὴ ἀνελεῖν με σὺ θέλεις, ὃν τρόπον ἀνεῖλες ἐχθὲς τὸν Αἰγύπτιον; ἐφοβήθη δὲ Μωϋσῆς καὶ εἶπεν Εἰ οὕτως ἐμφανὲς γέγονεν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο;
He answered: «Who set you as chief and judgeⓘ over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?». Moshèh was afraid and said: «Surely the thing is become known».

וישמע פרעה את הדבר הזה ויבקש להרג את משה ויברח משה מפני פרעה וישב בארץ מדין וישב על הבאר
ἤκουσεν δὲ Φαραω τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο καὶ ἐζήτει ἀνελεῖν Μωυσῆν· ἀνεχώρησεν δὲ Μωϋσῆς ἀπὸ προσώπου Φαραω καὶ ᾤκησεν ἐν γῇ Μαδιαμ· ἐλθὼν δὲ εἰς γῆν Μαδιαμ ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ τοῦ φρέατος.
Pharaoh heard of this thing and sought to kill Moshèh; but Moshèh fled from Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midyànⓘ, and sat down by a wellⓘ.

ולכהן מדין שבע בנות ותבאנה ותדלנה ותמלאנה את הרהטים להשקות צאן אביהן
τῷ δὲ ἱερεῖ Μαδιαμ ἦσαν ἑπτὰ θυγατέρες ποιμαίνουσαι τὰ πρόβατα τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν Ιοθορ· παραγενόμεναι δὲ ἤντλουν, ἕως ἔπλησαν τὰς δεξαμενὰς ποτίσαι τὰ πρόβατα τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν Ιοθορ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——The priest of Madiànⓘ had seven daughters, who were pasturing the sheepⓘ of their father Iotor; and they, having arrived, drew water until they filled the cisternsⓘ to water the sheep of their father Iotor.—— Masoretic (MT) ——The priest of Midyànⓘ had seven daughters; they came, drew water and filled the troughsⓘ to water the flock of their father.

ויבאו הרעים ויגרשום ויקם משה ויושען וישק את צאנם
παραγενόμενοι δὲ οἱ ποιμένες ἐξέβαλον αὐτάς· ἀναστὰς δὲ Μωϋσῆς ἐρρύσατο αὐτὰς καὶ ἤντλησεν αὐταῖς καὶ ἐπότισεν τὰ πρόβατα αὐτῶν.
The shepherds came and drove them away; but Moshèh rose, savedⓘ them and watered their flock.

ותבאנה אל רעואל אביהן ויאמר מדוע מהרתן בא היום
παρεγένοντο δὲ πρὸς Ραγουηλ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν· ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐταῖς Τί ὅτι ἐταχύνατε τοῦ παραγενέσθαι σήμερον;
They returned to Re'uèlⓘ, their father, and he said: «Why have you returned so quickly today?».

ותאמרן איש מצרי הצילנו מיד הרעים וגם דלה דלה לנו וישק את הצאן
αἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ἄνθρωπος Αἰγύπτιος ἐρρύσατο ἡμᾶς ἀπὸ τῶν ποιμένων καὶ ἤντλησεν ἡμῖν καὶ ἐπότισεν τὰ πρόβατα ἡμῶν.
They answered: «An Egyptian man deliveredⓘ us from the hand of the shepherds; he even drew water for usⓘ and watered the flock».

ויאמר אל בנתיו ואיו למה זה עזבתן את האיש קראן לו ויאכל לחם
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν ταῖς θυγατράσιν αὐτοῦ Καὶ ποῦ ἐστι; καὶ ἵνα τί οὕτως καταλελοίπατε τὸν ἄνθρωπον; καλέσατε οὖν αὐτόν, ὅπως φάγῃ ἄρτον.
He said to his daughters: «And where is he? Why did you leave the man? Call him, that he may eat bread».

ויואל משה לשבת את האיש ויתן את צפרה בתו למשה
κατῳκίσθη δὲ Μωϋσῆς παρὰ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ, καὶ ἐξέδοτο Σεπφωραν τὴν θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ Μωυσῇ γυναῖκα.
Moshèh consentedⓘ to dwell with that man, and he gave to Moshèh Tzipporàhⓘ his daughter.

ותלד בן ויקרא את שמו גרשם כי אמר גר הייתי בארץ נכריה
ἐν γαστρὶ δὲ λαβοῦσα ἡ γυνὴ ἔτεκεν υἱόν, καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν Μωϋσῆς τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Γηρσαμ λέγων ὅτι Πάροικός εἰμι ἐν γῇ ἀλλοτρίᾳ.
She bore a son, and he called his name Ghershòmⓘ, saying: «A stranger I have been in a foreign land».

ויהי בימים הרבים ההם וימת מלך מצרים ויאנחו בני ישראל מן העבדה ויזעקו ותעל שועתם אל האלהים מן העבדה
Μετὰ δὲ τὰς ἡμέρας τὰς πολλὰς ἐκείνας ἐτελεύτησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου. καὶ κατεστέναξαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἀπὸ τῶν ἔργων καὶ ἀνεβόησαν, καὶ ἀνέβη ἡ βοὴ αὐτῶν πρὸς τὸν θεὸν ἀπὸ τῶν ἔργων.
It came to pass in those long days that the king of Egypt died; the sons of Israel groanedⓘ because of the slavery and cried out, and their plea rose up to Godⓘ from the slavery.

וישמע אלהים את נאקתם ויזכר אלהים את בריתו את אברהם את יצחק ואת יעקב
καὶ εἰσήκουσεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν στεναγμὸν αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐμνήσθη ὁ θεὸς τῆς διαθήκης αὐτοῦ τῆς πρὸς Αβρααμ καὶ Ισαακ καὶ Ιακωβ.
Godⓘ heard their groaning, and God rememberedⓘ his covenant with Avrahàm, with Yitzchàq and with Yaaqòv.

וירא אלהים את בני ישראל וידע אלהים
καὶ ἐπεῖδεν ὁ θεὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ καὶ ἐγνώσθη αὐτοῖς.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Godⓘ looked upon the sons of Israel, and made himself known to themⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——Godⓘ saw the sons of Israel, and God knew themⓘ.
