ויאמר יהוה אל משה אמר אל אהרן נטה את ידך במטך על הנהרת על היארים ועל האגמים והעל את הצפרדעים על ארץ מצרים

εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Εἰπὸν Ααρων τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου Ἔκτεινον τῇ χειρὶ τὴν ῥάβδον σου ἐπὶ τοὺς ποταμοὺς καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς διώρυγας καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ἕλη καὶ ἀνάγαγε τοὺς βατράχους.

And the Tetragrammaton said to Moshè: Say to Aharònⓘ: Stretch out your hand with your staff (mattèh) over the rivers (neharòt), over the canals of the Nile (yeorìm) and over the pools (agammìm), and bring upⓘthe frogs (tzefardeìm) upon the land of Mitzràyim.

ויט אהרן את ידו על מימי מצרים ותעל הצפרדע ותכס את ארץ מצרים

καὶ ἐξέτεινεν Ααρων τὴν χεῖρα ἐπὶ τὰ ὕδατα Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἀνήγαγεν τοὺς βατράχους· καὶ ἀνεβιβάσθη ὁ βάτραχος καὶ ἐκάλυψεν τὴν γῆν Αἰγύπτου.

—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Aharòn stretched out his hand over the waters of Mitzràyim and brought up the frogsⓘ; and the frogⓘwas brought up and covered the land of Mitzràyim.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And Aharòn stretched out his hand over the waters of Mitzràyim, and the frogⓘcame up and covered the land of Mitzràyim.

ויעשו כן החרטמים בלטיהם ויעלו את הצפרדעים על ארץ מצרים

ἐποίησαν δὲ ὡσαύτως καὶ οἱ ἐπαοιδοὶ τῶν Αἰγυπτίων ταῖς φαρμακείαις αὐτῶν καὶ ἀνήγαγον τοὺς βατράχους ἐπὶ γῆν Αἰγύπτου.

And the chartummìmⓘdid likewise with their secret artsⓘ, and brought up the frogs upon the land of Mitzràyim.

ויקרא פרעה למשה ולאהרן ויאמר העתירו אל יהוה ויסר הצפרדעים ממני ומעמי ואשלחה את העם ויזבחו ליהוה

καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Φαραω Μωυσῆν καὶ Ααρων καὶ εἶπεν Εὔξασθε περὶ ἐμοῦ πρὸς κύριον, καὶ περιελέτω τοὺς βατράχους ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐμοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ τὸν λαόν, καὶ θύσωσιν κυρίῳ.

And Parò called Moshè and Aharòn and said: Entreatⓘthe Tetragrammaton that he may remove the frogs from me and from my people, and I will send the people away to sacrifice to the Tetragrammaton.

ויאמר משה לפרעה התפאר עלי למתי אעתיר לך ולעבדיך ולעמך להכרית הצפרדעים ממך ומבתיך רק ביאר תשארנה

εἶπεν δὲ Μωϋσῆς πρὸς Φαραω Τάξαι πρός με, πότε εὔξωμαι περὶ σοῦ καὶ περὶ τῶν θεραπόντων σου καὶ περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ σου ἀφανίσαι τοὺς βατράχους ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ λαοῦ σου καὶ ἐκ τῶν οἰκιῶν ὑμῶν, πλὴν ἐν τῷ ποταμῷ ὑπολειφθήσονται.

—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Moshè said to Parò: Set the time for me yourselfⓘ, as to when I am to pray for you, for your servantsⓘand for your peopleⓘ, to make the frogs disappear from you, from your people and from your houses? Only in the riverⓘwill they remain.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And Moshè said to Parò: Boast over me, if you willⓘ(grant me the honour: set the time for me yourself): as to when I am to pray for you, for your servants and for your people, that the frogs be cut off (le-hakrìt) from you and from your houses? Only in the Nile (ye'òr) will they remain.

ויאמר למחר ויאמר כדברך למען תדע כי אין כיהוה אלהינו

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Εἰς αὔριον. εἶπεν οὖν Ὡς εἴρηκας· ἵνα εἰδῇς ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἄλλος πλὴν κυρίου·

וסרו הצפרדעים ממך ומבתיך ומעבדיך ומעמך רק ביאר תשארנה

καὶ περιαιρεθήσονται οἱ βάτραχοι ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν οἰκιῶν ὑμῶν καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἐπαύλεων καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν θεραπόντων σου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ λαοῦ σου, πλὴν ἐν τῷ ποταμῷ ὑπολειφθήσονται.

ויצא משה ואהרן מעם פרעה ויצעק משה אל יהוה על דבר הצפרדעים אשר שם לפרעה

ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Μωϋσῆς καὶ Ααρων ἀπὸ Φαραω· καὶ ἐβόησεν Μωϋσῆς πρὸς κύριον περὶ τοῦ ὁρισμοῦ τῶν βατράχων, ὡς ἐτάξατο Φαραω.

And Moshè went out with Aharòn from Parò, and Moshè cried outⓘto the Tetragrammaton because of the frogs that he had brought upon Parò.

ויעש יהוה כדבר משה וימתו הצפרדעים מן הבתים מן החצרת ומן השדת

ἐποίησεν δὲ κύριος καθάπερ εἶπεν Μωϋσῆς, καὶ ἐτελεύτησαν οἱ βάτραχοι ἐκ τῶν οἰκιῶν καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἐπαύλεων καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἀγρῶν·

And the Tetragrammaton did according to the word of Moshè, and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courtyardsⓘand out of the fields.

ויצברו אתם חמרם חמרם ותבאש הארץ

καὶ συνήγαγον αὐτοὺς θιμωνιὰς θιμωνιάς, καὶ ὤζεσεν ἡ γῆ.

And they gathered them in heaps upon heapsⓘ, and the land stank (va-tiv'àsh).

וירא פרעה כי היתה הרוחה והכבד את לבו ולא שמע אלהם כאשר דבר יהוה

ἰδὼν δὲ Φαραω ὅτι γέγονεν ἀνάψυξις, ἐβαρύνθη ἡ καρδία αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσεν αὐτῶν, καθάπερ ἐλάλησεν κύριος.

And Parò saw that there had been reliefⓘ, and he hardened his heartⓘ, and did not listen to them, as the Tetragrammaton had spoken.

ויאמר יהוה אל משה אמר אל אהרן נטה את מטך והך את עפר הארץ והיה לכנם בכל ארץ מצרים

Εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Εἰπὸν Ααρων Ἔκτεινον τῇ χειρὶ τὴν ῥάβδον σου καὶ πάταξον τὸ χῶμα τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἔσονται σκνῖφες ἔν τε τοῖς ἀνθρώποις καὶ ἐν τοῖς τετράποσιν καὶ ἐν πάσῃ γῇ Αἰγύπτου.

And the Tetragrammaton said to Moshè: Say to Aharòn: Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth (afàr ha-àretz), and it will become gnatsⓘthroughout all the land of Mitzràyim.

ויעשו כן ויט אהרן את ידו במטהו ויך את עפר הארץ ותהי הכנם באדם ובבהמה כל עפר הארץ היה כנים בכל ארץ מצרים

ἐξέτεινεν οὖν Ααρων τῇ χειρὶ τὴν ῥάβδον καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸ χῶμα τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἐγένοντο οἱ σκνῖφες ἔν τε τοῖς ἀνθρώποις καὶ ἐν τοῖς τετράποσιν, καὶ ἐν παντὶ χώματι τῆς γῆς ἐγένοντο οἱ σκνῖφες ἐν πάσῃ γῇ Αἰγύπτου.

And they did so: and Aharòn stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and the gnat came upon man (adàm) and upon beast (behemàh); all the dust of the earth became gnats throughout all the land of Mitzràyim.

ויעשו כן החרטמים בלטיהם להוציא את הכנים ולא יכלו ותהי הכנם באדם ובבהמה

ἐποιήσαν δὲ ὡσαύτως καὶ οἱ ἐπαοιδοὶ ταῖς φαρμακείαις αὐτῶν ἐξαγαγεῖν τὸν σκνῖφα καὶ οὐκ ἠδύναντο. καὶ ἐγένοντο οἱ σκνῖφες ἐν τοῖς ἀνθρώποις καὶ ἐν τοῖς τετράποσιν.

And the chartummìm did likewise with their secret arts to bring forth the gnats, but they could notⓘ; and the gnat was upon man and upon beast.

ויאמרו החרטמים אל פרעה אצבע אלהים הוא ויחזק לב פרעה ולא שמע אלהם כאשר דבר יהוה

εἶπαν οὖν οἱ ἐπαοιδοὶ τῷ Φαραω Δάκτυλος θεοῦ ἐστιν τοῦτο. καὶ ἐσκληρύνθη ἡ καρδία Φαραω, καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσεν αὐτῶν, καθάπερ ἐλάλησεν κύριος.

And the chartummìm said to Parò: The finger of Godⓘis this. But the heart of Parò grew strongthe heart grew strongⓘ, and he did not listen to them, as the Tetragrammaton had spoken.

ויאמר יהוה אל משה השכם בבקר והתיצב לפני פרעה הנה יוצא המימה ואמרת אליו כה אמר יהוה שלח עמי ויעבדני

Εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Ὄρθρισον τὸ πρωῒ καὶ στῆθι ἐναντίον Φαραω· καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ἐξελεύσεται ἐπὶ τὸ ὕδωρ, καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτόν Τάδε λέγει κύριος Ἐξαπόστειλον τὸν λαόν μου, ἵνα μοι λατρεύσωσιν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ·

And the Tetragrammaton said to Moshè: Rise up early in the morningⓘand station yourself before Parò — behold, he goes out to the water — and say to him: Thus has saidⓘthe Tetragrammaton: Send my people away that they may serve me.

כי אם אינך משלח את עמי הנני משליח בך ובעבדיך ובעמך ובבתיך את הערב ומלאו בתי מצרים את הערב וגם האדמה אשר הם עליה

ἐὰν δὲ μὴ βούλῃ ἐξαποστεῖλαι τὸν λαόν μου, ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπαποστέλλω ἐπὶ σὲ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς θεράποντάς σου καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν σου καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς οἴκους ὑμῶν κυνόμυιαν, καὶ πλησθήσονται αἱ οἰκίαι τῶν Αἰγυπτίων τῆς κυνομυίης καὶ εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἐφ’ ἧς εἰσιν ἐπ’ αὐτῆς.

For if you do not send my people away, behold, I send againstⓘyou, your servants, your people and your houses the swarmⓘ; and the houses of Mitzràyim will be filled with the swarm, and also the ground (adamàh) on which they stand.

והפליתי ביום ההוא את ארץ גשן אשר עמי עמד עליה לבלתי היות שם ערב למען תדע כי אני יהוה בקרב הארץ

καὶ παραδοξάσω ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ τὴν γῆν Γεσεμ, ἐφ’ ἧς ὁ λαός μου ἔπεστιν ἐπ’ αὐτῆς, ἐφ’ ἧς οὐκ ἔσται ἐκεῖ ἡ κυνόμυια, ἵνα εἰδῇς ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι κύριος ὁ κύριος πάσης τῆς γῆς.

—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And I will make portentousⓘon that day the land of Gèsemⓘ, upon which my people stands, where there will be no dog-flyⓘ— that you may know that I am the **Tetragrammaton, the Tetragrammaton of all the earthⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And I will set apartⓘon that day the land of Gòshen, where my people dwells, so that there be no swarm there — that you may know that I am the Tetragrammaton in the midst of the earthⓘ.

ושמתי פדת בין עמי ובין עמך למחר יהיה האת הזה

καὶ δώσω διαστολὴν ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ ἐμοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ σοῦ λαοῦ· ἐν δὲ τῇ αὔριον ἔσται τὸ σημεῖον τοῦτο ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.

And I will set a ransom-separationⓘbetween my people and your people; tomorrow this sign (ot) will come to pass.

ויעש יהוה כן ויבא ערב כבד ביתה פרעה ובית עבדיו ובכל ארץ מצרים תשחת הארץ מפני הערב

ἐποίησεν δὲ κύριος οὕτως, καὶ παρεγένετο ἡ κυνόμυια πλῆθος εἰς τοὺς οἴκους Φαραω καὶ εἰς τοὺς οἴκους τῶν θεραπόντων αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰς πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἐξωλεθρεύθη ἡ γῆ ἀπὸ τῆς κυνομυίης.

And the Tetragrammaton did so: and a heavy swarm came (aròv kavèd) into the house of Parò and into the house of his servants, and throughout all the land of Mitzràyim the land was ruinedⓘbecause of the swarm.

ויקרא פרעה אל משה ולאהרן ויאמר לכו זבחו לאלהיכם בארץ

ἐκάλεσεν δὲ Φαραω Μωυσῆν καὶ Ααρων λέγων Ἐλθόντες θύσατε τῷ θεῷ ὑμῶν ἐν τῇ γῇ.

And Parò called Moshè and Aharòn and said: Go, sacrifice to your Godⓘin the land (a partial concession: within Mitzràyim, not outside).

ויאמר משה לא נכון לעשות כן כי תועבת מצרים נזבח ליהוה אלהינו הן נזבח את תועבת מצרים לעיניהם ולא יסקלנו

καὶ εἶπεν Μωϋσῆς Οὐ δυνατὸν γενέσθαι οὕτως· τὰ γὰρ βδελύγματα τῶν Αἰγυπτίων θύσομεν κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ἡμῶν· ἐὰν γὰρ θύσωμεν τὰ βδελύγματα τῶν Αἰγυπτίων ἐναντίον αὐτῶν, λιθοβοληθησόμεθα.

And Moshè said: It is not right (lo nakhòn) to do so, for what we will sacrifice to the Tetragrammaton our God is an abomination of Mitzràyimⓘ. Behold, if we were to sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, would they not stone usⓘ?

דרך שלשת ימים נלך במדבר וזבחנו ליהוה אלהינו כאשר יאמר אלינו

ὁδὸν τριῶν ἡμερῶν πορευσόμεθα εἰς τὴν ἔρημον καὶ θύσομεν κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ἡμῶν, καθάπερ εἶπεν ἡμῖν.

A journey of three days we will go into the wilderness (midbàr), and we will sacrifice to the Tetragrammaton our God, as he will tell us.

ויאמר פרעה אנכי אשלח אתכם וזבחתם ליהוה אלהיכם במדבר רק הרחק לא תרחיקו ללכת העתירו בעדי

καὶ εἶπεν Φαραω Ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω ὑμᾶς, καὶ θύσατε κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ὑμῶν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἀλλ’ οὐ μακρὰν ἀποτενεῖτε πορευθῆναι· εὔξασθε οὖν περὶ ἐμοῦ πρὸς κύριον.

And Parò said: I will send you away, and you will sacrifice to the Tetragrammaton your God in the wilderness; only, going far do not go too farⓘ. Entreat for me.

ויאמר משה הנה אנכי יוצא מעמך והעתרתי אל יהוה וסר הערב מפרעה מעבדיו ומעמו מחר רק אל יסף פרעה התל לבלתי שלח את העם לזבח ליהוה

εἶπεν δὲ Μωϋσῆς Ὅδε ἐγὼ ἐξελεύσομαι ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ εὔξομαι πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ ἀπελεύσεται ἡ κυνόμυια ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν θεραπόντων σου καὶ τοῦ λαοῦ σου αὔριον· μὴ προσθῇς ἔτι, Φαραω, ἐξαπατῆσαι τοῦ μὴ ἐξαποστεῖλαι τὸν λαὸν θῦσαι κυρίῳ.

And Moshè said: Behold, I go out from you and will pray to the Tetragrammaton, and the swarm will depart from Parò, from his servants and from his people, tomorrow; only, let Parò not continue to deal deceitfullyⓘby not sending the people away to sacrifice to the Tetragrammaton.

ויצא משה מעם פרעה ויעתר אל יהוה

ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Μωϋσῆς ἀπὸ Φαραω καὶ ηὔξατο πρὸς τὸν θεόν·

And Moshè went out from Parò and prayedⓘto the Tetragrammaton.

ויעש יהוה כדבר משה ויסר הערב מפרעה מעבדיו ומעמו לא נשאר אחד

ἐποίησεν δὲ κύριος καθάπερ εἶπεν Μωϋσῆς, καὶ περιεῖλεν τὴν κυνόμυιαν ἀπὸ Φαραω καὶ τῶν θεραπόντων αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῦ λαοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐ κατελείφθη οὐδεμία.

And the Tetragrammaton did according to the word of Moshè, and removed the swarm from Parò, from his servants and from his people; not one remainedⓘ.

ויכבד פרעה את לבו גם בפעם הזאת ולא שלח את העם

καὶ ἐβάρυνεν Φαραω τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ καιροῦ τούτου καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν ἐξαποστεῖλαι τὸν λαόν.

And Parò hardened his heartⓘthis time also, and did not send the people away.
