ושרי אשת אברם לא ילדה לו ולה שפחה מצרית ושמה הגר
Σαρα δὲ ἡ γυνὴ Αβραμ οὐκ ἔτικτεν αὐτῷ. ἦν δὲ αὐτῇ παιδίσκη Αἰγυπτία, ᾗ ὄνομα Αγαρ.
Saràj, wife of Avràmⓘ, had borne him no children; she had an Egyptian slave-woman named Hagàrⓘ.

ותאמר שרי אל אברם הנה נא עצרני יהוה מלדת בא נא אל שפחתי אולי אבנה ממנה וישמע אברם לקול שרי
εἶπεν δὲ Σαρα πρὸς Αβραμ Ἰδοὺ συνέκλεισέν με κύριος τοῦ μὴ τίκτειν· εἴσελθε οὖν πρὸς τὴν παιδίσκην μου, ἵνα τεκνοποιήσῃς ἐξ αὐτῆς. ὑπήκουσεν δὲ Αβραμ τῆς φωνῆς Σαρας.
And Saràj said to Avràm: «Behold, the Tetragrammatonⓘ has kept me from bearing; go now to my slave-woman: perhaps I shall be built up through herⓘ». And Avràm listened to the voice of Saràj.

ותקח שרי אשת אברם את הגר המצרית שפחתה מקץ עשר שנים לשבת אברם בארץ כנען ותתן אתה לאברם אישה לו לאשה
καὶ λαβοῦσα Σαρα ἡ γυνὴ Αβραμ Αγαρ τὴν Αἰγυπτίαν τὴν ἑαυτῆς παιδίσκην – μετὰ δέκα ἔτη τοῦ οἰκῆσαι Αβραμ ἐν γῇ Χανααν – καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὴν Αβραμ τῷ ἀνδρὶ αὐτῆς αὐτῷ γυναῖκα.
And Saràj, wife of Avràm, took Hagàr the Egyptian, her slave-woman — after ten years that Avràm had dwelt in the land of Kenaànⓘ — and gave her as wife to Avràm her husband.

ויבא אל הגר ותהר ותרא כי הרתה ותקל גברתה בעיניה
καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς Αγαρ, καὶ συνέλαβεν καὶ εἶδεν ὅτι ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχει, καὶ ἠτιμάσθη ἡ κυρία ἐναντίον αὐτῆς.
And he went to Hagàr, who conceived; and when she saw that she was pregnant, her mistress became a thing of little weight in her eyesⓘ.

ותאמר שרי אל אברם חמסי עליך אנכי נתתי שפחתי בחיקך ותרא כי הרתה ואקל בעיניה ישפט יהוה ביני וביניך
εἶπεν δὲ Σαρα πρὸς Αβραμ Ἀδικοῦμαι ἐκ σοῦ· ἐγὼ δέδωκα τὴν παιδίσκην μου εἰς τὸν κόλπον σου, ἰδοῦσα δὲ ὅτι ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχει, ἠτιμάσθην ἐναντίον αὐτῆς· κρίναι ὁ θεὸς ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ.
And Saràj said to Avràm: «Let the wrong done to me fall upon you!ⓘ I placed my slave-woman in your bosom; and now that she sees she is pregnant, I am despised in her eyes. May the Tetragrammaton judgeⓘ between me and you».

ויאמר אברם אל שרי הנה שפחתך בידך עשי לה הטוב בעיניך ותענה שרי ותברח מפניה
εἶπεν δὲ Αβραμ πρὸς Σαραν Ἰδοὺ ἡ παιδίσκη σου ἐν ταῖς χερσίν σου· χρῶ αὐτῇ, ὡς ἄν σοι ἀρεστὸν ᾖ. καὶ ἐκάκωσεν αὐτὴν Σαρα, καὶ ἀπέδρα ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῆς.
And Avràm said to Saràj: «Behold, your slave-woman is in your power; do to her what is good in your eyesⓘ». And Saràj oppressed herⓘ, and she fled from her presence.

וימצאה מלאך יהוה על עין המים במדבר על העין בדרך שור
Εὗρεν δὲ αὐτὴν ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐπὶ τῆς πηγῆς τοῦ ὕδατος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἐπὶ τῆς πηγῆς ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ Σουρ.
And the messenger of the Tetragrammatonⓘ found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shurⓘ.

ויאמר הגר שפחת שרי אי מזה באת ואנה תלכי ותאמר מפני שרי גברתי אנכי ברחת
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου Αγαρ παιδίσκη Σαρας, πόθεν ἔρχῃ καὶ ποῦ πορεύῃ; καὶ εἶπεν Ἀπὸ προσώπου Σαρας τῆς κυρίας μου ἐγὼ ἀποδιδράσκω.
And he said: «Hagàr, slave-woman of Saràjⓘ, where do you come from and where are you going?». And she answered: «From the presence of Saràj my mistress I am fleeing».

ויאמר לה מלאך יהוה שובי אל גברתך והתעני תחת ידיה
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῇ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου Ἀποστράφητι πρὸς τὴν κυρίαν σου καὶ ταπεινώθητι ὑπὸ τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῆς.
And the messenger of the Tetragrammaton said to her: «Return to your mistress and humble yourself under her handⓘ».

ויאמר לה מלאך יהוה הרבה ארבה את זרעך ולא יספר מרב
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου Πληθύνων πληθυνῶ τὸ σπέρμα σου, καὶ οὐκ ἀριθμηθήσεται ἀπὸ τοῦ πλήθους.
And the messenger of the Tetragrammaton said to her: «Multiplying I will multiply your offspringⓘ, which cannot be counted for its multitude».

ויאמר לה מלאך יהוה הנך הרה וילדת בן וקראת שמו ישמעאל כי שמע יהוה אל עניך
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου Ἰδοὺ σὺ ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχεις καὶ τέξῃ υἱὸν καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ισμαηλ, ὅτι ἐπήκουσεν κύριος τῇ ταπεινώσει σου.
And the messenger of the Tetragrammaton said to her: «Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son, and you shall call him Yishmaèlⓘ, because the Tetragrammatonⓘ has heard your afflictionⓘ».

והוא יהיה פרא אדם ידו בכל ויד כל בו ועל פני כל אחיו ישכן
οὗτος ἔσται ἄγροικος ἄνθρωπος· αἱ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πάντας, καὶ αἱ χεῖρες πάντων ἐπ’ αὐτόν, καὶ κατὰ πρόσωπον πάντων τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ κατοικήσει.
He shall be like a wild ass among menⓘ: his hand against all, and the hand of all against himⓘ; and in the presence of all his brothers he shall dwell.

ותקרא שם יהוה הדבר אליה אתה אל ראי כי אמרה הגם הלם ראיתי אחרי ראי
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Αγαρ τὸ ὄνομα κυρίου τοῦ λαλοῦντος πρὸς αὐτήν Σὺ ὁ θεὸς ὁ ἐπιδών με· ὅτι εἶπεν Καὶ γὰρ ἐνώπιον εἶδον ὀφθέντα μοι.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Hagàr invoked the name of the Tetragrammatonⓘ who spoke to her: «You are the God who has looked upon meⓘ»; for she said: «For indeed I have seen face to face the one who appeared to me»ⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And Hagàr called the Tetragrammatonⓘ who had spoken to her: «You are El-Roìⓘ»; for she said: «I have indeed seen here, after being seen»ⓘ.

על כן קרא לבאר באר לחי ראי הנה בין קדש ובין ברד
ἕνεκεν τούτου ἐκάλεσεν τὸ φρέαρ Φρέαρ οὗ ἐνώπιον εἶδον· ἰδοὺ ἀνὰ μέσον Καδης καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Βαραδ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——For this reason that well was called «Well of the one before whom I have seen»ⓘ. Behold, it is in the middle, between Kades and Baradⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——Therefore that well was called Beʾèr-Lachài-Roìⓘ. Behold, it is between Qadèsh and Bèredⓘ.

ותלד הגר לאברם בן ויקרא אברם שם בנו אשר ילדה הגר ישמעאל
Καὶ ἔτεκεν Αγαρ τῷ Αβραμ υἱόν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Αβραμ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ, ὃν ἔτεκεν αὐτῷ Αγαρ, Ισμαηλ.
And Hagàr bore Avràm a son; and Avràm called the son whom Hagàr had borne him Yishmaèl.

ואברם בן שמנים שנה ושש שנים בלדת הגר את ישמעאל לאברם
Αβραμ δὲ ἦν ὀγδοήκοντα ἓξ ἐτῶν, ἡνίκα ἔτεκεν Αγαρ τὸν Ισμαηλ τῷ Αβραμ.
And Avràm was eighty-six years old when Hagàr bore him Yishmaèlⓘ.
