ויבא יוסף ויגד לפרעה ויאמר אבי ואחי וצאנם ובקרם וכל אשר להם באו מארץ כנען והנם בארץ גשן
Ἐλθὼν δὲ Ιωσηφ ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ Φαραω λέγων Ὁ πατήρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί μου καὶ τὰ κτήνη καὶ οἱ βόες αὐτῶν καὶ πάντα τὰ αὐτῶν ἦλθον ἐκ γῆς Χανααν καὶ ἰδού εἰσιν ἐν γῇ Γεσεμ.
Yosèf came and reported to Pharaohⓘ, saying: My father and my brothers, with their flocks and their herdsⓘ and all that is theirs, have come from the land of Kenàan; and behold, they are in the land of Ghèshenⓘ.

ומקצה אחיו לקח חמשה אנשים ויצגם לפני פרעה
ἀπὸ δὲ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ παρέλαβεν πέντε ἄνδρας καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτοὺς ἐναντίον Φαραω.
From among his brothers he took five menⓘ and set themⓘ before Pharaoh.

ויאמר פרעה אל אחיו מה מעשיכם ויאמרו אל פרעה רעה צאן עבדיך גם אנחנו גם אבותינו
καὶ εἶπεν Φαραω τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς Ιωσηφ Τί τὸ ἔργον ὑμῶν; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν τῷ Φαραω Ποιμένες προβάτων οἱ παῖδές σου, καὶ ἡμεῖς καὶ οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν.
Pharaoh said to the brothers: «What is your occupationⓘ?» They said to Pharaoh: «Your servants are shepherds of flocks, we as also our fathers» — the answer claims genealogical continuity with the patriarchal tradition.

ויאמרו אל פרעה לגור בארץ באנו כי אין מרעה לצאן אשר לעבדיך כי כבד הרעב בארץ כנען ועתה ישבו נא עבדיך בארץ גשן
εἶπαν δὲ τῷ Φαραω Παροικεῖν ἐν τῇ γῇ ἥκαμεν· οὐ γάρ ἐστιν νομὴ τοῖς κτήνεσιν τῶν παίδων σου, ἐνίσχυσεν γὰρ ὁ λιμὸς ἐν γῇ Χανααν· νῦν οὖν κατοικήσομεν οἱ παῖδές σου ἐν γῇ Γεσεμ.
They said to Pharaoh: «To sojourn as resident aliensⓘ in this land we have come, for there is no pasture for the flocks of your servants, for the famine is grievousⓘ in the land of Kenàan; and now, we pray, let your servants dwellⓘ in the land of Ghèshen».

ויאמר פרעה אל יוסף לאמר אביך ואחיך באו אליך
εἶπεν δὲ Φαραω τῷ Ιωσφη Κατοικείτωσαν ἐν γῇ Γεσεμ· εἰ δὲ ἐπίστῃ ὅτι εἰσὶν ἐν αὐτοῖς ἄνδρες δυνατοί, κατάστησον αὐτοὺς ἄρχοντας τῶν ἐμῶν κτηνῶν. Ἦλθον δὲ εἰς Αἴγυπτον πρὸς Ιωσηφ Ιακωβ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἤκουσεν Φαραω βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου. καὶ εἶπεν Φαραω πρὸς Ιωσηφ λέγων Ὁ πατήρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου ἥκασι πρὸς σέ·

So they came into Egypt, to Yosèf, Yaaqòv and his sons, and Pharaoh king of Egypt heard of itⓘ. ארץ מצרים לפניך הוא במיטב הארץ הושב את אביך ואת אחיך ישבו בארץ גשן ואם ידעת ויש בם אנשי חיל ושמתם שרי מקנה על אשר לי
ἰδοὺ ἡ γῆ Αἰγύπτου ἐναντίον σού ἐστιν· ἐν τῇ βελτίστῃ γῇ κατοίκισον τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου.

ויבא יוסף את יעקב אביו ויעמדהו לפני פרעה ויברך יעקב את פרעה
εἰσήγαγεν δὲ Ιωσηφ Ιακωβ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ἐναντίον Φαραω, καὶ εὐλόγησεν Ιακωβ τὸν Φαραω.
Yosèf brought Yaaqòv his father and made him standⓘ before Pharaoh, and Yaaqòv blessed Pharaohⓘ.

ויאמר פרעה אל יעקב כמה ימי שני חייך
εἶπεν δὲ Φαραω τῷ Ιακωβ Πόσα ἔτη ἡμερῶν τῆς ζωῆς σου;
Pharaoh said to Yaaqòv: «How many are the days of the years of your life?ⓘ»

ויאמר יעקב אל פרעה ימי שני מגורי שלשים ומאת שנה מעט ורעים היו ימי שני חיי ולא השיגו את ימי שני חיי אבתי בימי מגוריהם
καὶ εἶπεν Ιακωβ τῷ Φαραω Αἱ ἡμέραι τῶν ἐτῶν τῆς ζωῆς μου, ἃς παροικῶ, ἑκατὸν τριάκοντα ἔτη· μικραὶ καὶ πονηραὶ γεγόνασιν αἱ ἡμέραι τῶν ἐτῶν τῆς ζωῆς μου, οὐκ ἀφίκοντο εἰς τὰς ἡμέρας τῶν ἐτῶν τῆς ζωῆς τῶν πατέρων μου, ἃς ἡμέρας παρῴκησαν.
Yaaqòv said to Pharaoh: «The days of the years of my sojourningⓘ are a hundred and thirty yearsⓘ; few and evilⓘ have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not reached the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their sojourningⓘ».

ויברך יעקב את פרעה ויצא מלפני פרעה
καὶ εὐλογήσας Ιακωβ τὸν Φαραω ἐξῆλθεν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ.
Yaaqòv blessed Pharaohⓘ and went out from Pharaoh's presence.

ויושב יוסף את אביו ואת אחיו ויתן להם אחזה בארץ מצרים במיטב הארץ בארץ רעמסס כאשר צוה פרעה
καὶ κατῴκισεν Ιωσηφ τὸν πατέρα καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς κατάσχεσιν ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτου ἐν τῇ βελτίστῃ γῇ ἐν γῇ Ραμεσση, καθὰ προσέταξεν Φαραω.
Yosèf settled the father and the brothers and gave them a holdingⓘ in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Ram'essesⓘ, as Pharaoh had commanded.

ויכלכל יוסף את אביו ואת אחיו ואת כל בית אביו לחם לפי הטף
καὶ ἐσιτομέτρει Ιωσηφ τῷ πατρὶ καὶ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ παντὶ τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ σῖτον κατὰ σῶμα.
Yosèf provided with sustenanceⓘ the father, the brothers and all the father's house, according to the number of the little onesⓘ.

ולחם אין בכל הארץ כי כבד הרעב מאד ותלה ארץ מצרים וארץ כנען מפני הרעב
Σῖτος δὲ οὐκ ἦν ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ· ἐνίσχυσεν γὰρ ὁ λιμὸς σφόδρα· ἐξέλιπεν δὲ ἡ γῆ Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἡ γῆ Χανααν ἀπὸ τοῦ λιμοῦ.
There was no bread in all the land, for the famine was very grievousⓘ; and it languishedⓘ the land of Egypt and the land of Kenàan because of the famine.

וילקט יוסף את כל הכסף הנמצא בארץ מצרים ובארץ כנען בשבר אשר הם שברים ויבא יוסף את הכסף ביתה פרעה
συνήγαγεν δὲ Ιωσηφ πᾶν τὸ ἀργύριον τὸ εὑρεθὲν ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἐν γῇ Χανααν τοῦ σίτου, οὗ ἠγόραζον καὶ ἐσιτομέτρει αὐτοῖς, καὶ εἰσήνεγκεν Ιωσηφ πᾶν τὸ ἀργύριον εἰς τὸν οἶκον Φαραω.
Yosèf gatheredⓘ all the silver that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Kenàan, in exchange for the grain that they were buying; and Yosèf brought the silver into Pharaoh's house.

ויתם הכסף מארץ מצרים ומארץ כנען ויבאו כל מצרים אל יוסף לאמר הבה לנו לחם ולמה נמות נגדך כי אפס כסף
καὶ ἐξέλιπεν πᾶν τὸ ἀργύριον ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἐκ γῆς Χανααν. ἦλθον δὲ πάντες οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι πρὸς Ιωσηφ λέγοντες Δὸς ἡμῖν ἄρτους, καὶ ἵνα τί ἀποθνῄσκομεν ἐναντίον σου; ἐκλέλοιπεν γὰρ τὸ ἀργύριον ἡμῶν.
When the silver was spentⓘ from the land of Egypt and from the land of Kenàan, all the Egyptians came to Yosèf saying: «Give us bread! Why should we die before you, since the silver has failedⓘ?»

ויאמר יוסף הבו מקניכם ואתנה לכם במקניכם אם אפס כסף
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ιωσηφ Φέρετε τὰ κτήνη ὑμῶν, καὶ δώσω ὑμῖν ἄρτους ἀντὶ τῶν κτηνῶν ὑμῶν, εἰ ἐκλέλοιπεν τὸ ἀργύριον.
Yosèf said: «Bring your livestock (miqnechem), and I will give you bread in exchange for your livestockⓘ, if the silver is gone».

ויביאו את מקניהם אל יוסף ויתן להם יוסף לחם בסוסים ובמקנה הצאן ובמקנה הבקר ובחמרים וינהלם בלחם בכל מקנהם בשנה ההוא
ἤγαγον δὲ τὰ κτήνη πρὸς Ιωσηφ, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς Ιωσηφ ἄρτους ἀντὶ τῶν ἵππων καὶ ἀντὶ τῶν προβάτων καὶ ἀντὶ τῶν βοῶν καὶ ἀντὶ τῶν ὄνων καὶ ἐξέθρεψεν αὐτοὺς ἐν ἄρτοις ἀντὶ πάντων τῶν κτηνῶν αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ ἐκείνῳ. –
They brought their livestock to Yosèf, and Yosèf gave them bread in exchange for the horsesⓘ, the livestock of the flocks, the livestock of the herds and the donkeys; and he guided them with breadⓘ in exchange for all their livestock that year.

ותתם השנה ההוא ויבאו אליו בשנה השנית ויאמרו לו לא נכחד מאדני כי אם תם הכסף ומקנה הבהמה אל אדני לא נשאר לפני אדני בלתי אם גויתנו ואדמתנו
ἐξῆλθεν δὲ τὸ ἔτος ἐκεῖνο, καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ ἔτει τῷ δευτέρῳ καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ Μήποτε ἐκτριβῶμεν ἀπὸ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν· εἰ γὰρ ἐκλέλοιπεν τὸ ἀργύριον καὶ τὰ ὑπάρχοντα καὶ τὰ κτήνη πρὸς σὲ τὸν κύριον, καὶ οὐχ ὑπολείπεται ἡμῖν ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν ἀλλ’ ἢ τὸ ἴδιον σῶμα καὶ ἡ γῆ ἡμῶν.
That year endedⓘ, and they came to him the second year and said to him: «We will not concealⓘ from my lord that the silver is consumed (tàm) and the herds of livestock have gone to my lord; there remains before my lord nothing but our body and our landⓘ.

למה נמות לעיניך גם אנחנו גם אדמתנו קנה אתנו ואת אדמתנו בלחם ונהיה אנחנו ואדמתנו עבדים לפרעה ותן זרע ונחיה ולא נמות והאדמה לא תשם
ἵνα οὖν μὴ ἀποθάνωμεν ἐναντίον σου καὶ ἡ γῆ ἐρημωθῇ, κτῆσαι ἡμᾶς καὶ τὴν γῆν ἡμῶν ἀντὶ ἄρτων, καὶ ἐσόμεθα ἡμεῖς καὶ ἡ γῆ ἡμῶν παῖδες Φαραω· δὸς σπέρμα, ἵνα σπείρωμεν καὶ ζῶμεν καὶ μὴ ἀποθάνωμεν καὶ ἡ γῆ οὐκ ἐρημωθήσεται.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——Why then should we die before you and the land be made desolateⓘ, buy us, we and our land, in exchange for loaves, and we and our land will be servantsⓘ of Pharaoh; give seedⓘ that we may sow and live and not die, and the land will not be made desolateⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——Why should we die before your eyes, we and our land? Buy us, we and our land, in exchange for bread, and we and our land will be servantsⓘ of Pharaoh; and give seedⓘ so that we may live and not die, and the land not be made desolateⓘ.

ויקן יוסף את כל אדמת מצרים לפרעה כי מכרו מצרים איש שדהו כי חזק עלהם הרעב ותהי הארץ לפרעה
καὶ ἐκτήσατο Ιωσηφ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν τῶν Αἰγυπτίων τῷ Φαραω· ἀπέδοντο γὰρ οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν τῷ Φαραω, ἐπεκράτησεν γὰρ αὐτῶν ὁ λιμός· καὶ ἐγένετο ἡ γῆ Φαραω,
Yosèf bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians each sold his own field, because the famine had overpowered themⓘ; and the land became Pharaoh's.
21
ואת העם העביר אתו לערים מקצה גבול מצרים ועד קצהו
καὶ τὸν λαὸν κατεδουλώσατο αὐτῷ εἰς παῖδας ἀπ’ ἄκρων ὁρίων Αἰγύπτου ἕως τῶν ἄκρων,
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And the people he reduced to servitude as slavesⓘ, from one extremity of the border of Egypt to the otherⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——As for the people, he made it pass over into the citiesⓘ from one extremity to the other of the border of Egypt.

רק אדמת הכהנים לא קנה כי חק לכהנים מאת פרעה ואכלו את חקם אשר נתן להם פרעה על כן לא מכרו את אדמתם
χωρὶς τῆς γῆς τῶν ἱερέων μόνον· οὐκ ἐκτήσατο ταύτην Ιωσηφ, ἐν δόσει γὰρ ἔδωκεν δόμα τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν Φαραω, καὶ ἤσθιον τὴν δόσιν, ἣν ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς Φαραω· διὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἀπέδοντο τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν.
Only the land of the priestsⓘ he did not buy, for the priests had a fixed allowanceⓘ from Pharaoh, and they ate their allowance which Pharaoh had assigned to them; therefore they did not sell their land.
23
ויאמר יוסף אל העם הן קניתי אתכם היום ואת אדמתכם לפרעה הא לכם זרע וזרעתם את האדמה
εἶπεν δὲ Ιωσηφ πᾶσι τοῖς Αἰγυπτίοις Ἰδοὺ κέκτημαι ὑμᾶς καὶ τὴν γῆν ὑμῶν σήμερον τῷ Φαραω· λάβετε ἑαυτοῖς σπέρμα καὶ σπείρατε τὴν γῆν,
Yosèf said to the people: «Behold, I have bought you today, you and your land, for Pharaoh; take seedⓘ and sow the land.
24
והיה בתבואת ונתתם חמישית לפרעה וארבע הידת יהיה לכם לזרע השדה ולאכלכם ולאשר בבתיכם ולאכל לטפכם
καὶ ἔσται τὰ γενήματα αὐτῆς δώσετε τὸ πέμπτον μέρος τῷ Φαραω, τὰ δὲ τέσσαρα μέρη ἔσται ὑμῖν αὐτοῖς εἰς σπέρμα τῇ γῇ καὶ εἰς βρῶσιν ὑμῖν καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς ἐν τοῖς οἴκοις ὑμῶν.
At the time of the harvest you shall give a fifthⓘ to Pharaoh, and four partsⓘ shall be for you: for the sowing of the field, for your food, for those who are in your houses, and as food for your little ones».
25
ויאמרו החיתנו נמצא חן בעיני אדני והיינו עבדים לפרעה
καὶ εἶπαν Σέσωκας ἡμᾶς, εὕρομεν χάριν ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν καὶ ἐσόμεθα παῖδες Φαραω.
They said: «You have kept us alive!ⓘ Let us find favor in the eyes of my lord, and we will be servants of Pharaoh».
26
וישם אתה יוסף לחק עד היום הזה על אדמת מצרים לפרעה לחמש רק אדמת הכהנים לבדם לא היתה לפרעה
καὶ ἔθετο αὐτοῖς Ιωσηφ εἰς πρόσταγμα ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης ἐπὶ γῆν Αἰγύπτου τῷ Φαραω ἀποπεμπτοῦν, χωρὶς τῆς γῆς τῶν ἱερέων μόνον· οὐκ ἦν τῷ Φαραω.
Yosèf made it a lawⓘ to this day over the land of Egypt: a fifthⓘ for Pharaoh; only the land of the priests alone did not become Pharaoh's.
27
וישב ישראל בארץ מצרים בארץ גשן ויאחזו בה ויפרו וירבו מאד
Κατῴκησεν δὲ Ισραηλ ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτῳ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς Γεσεμ καὶ ἐκληρονόμησαν ἐπ’ αὐτῆς καὶ ηὐξήθησαν καὶ ἐπληθύνθησαν σφόδρα. –
Israelⓘ dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the land of Ghèshen; they took possession in itⓘ, were fruitful (va-yifrù, root pàrah, as in Gen 1,28) and multiplied greatlyⓘ.

ויחי יעקב בארץ מצרים שבע עשרה שנה ויהי ימי יעקב שני חייו שבע שנים וארבעים ומאת שנה
ἐπέζησεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτῳ δέκα ἑπτὰ ἔτη· ἐγένοντο δὲ αἱ ἡμέραι Ιακωβ ἐνιαυτῶν τῆς ζωῆς αὐτοῦ ἑκατὸν τεσσαράκοντα ἑπτὰ ἔτη.
Yaaqòv lived in the land of Egypt seventeen yearsⓘ; and the years of the life of Yaaqòv, the years of his lifeⓘ, were a hundred and forty-seven yearsⓘ.

ויקרבו ימי ישראל למות ויקרא לבנו ליוסף ויאמר לו אם נא מצאתי חן בעיניך שים נא ידך תחת ירכי ועשית עמדי חסד ואמת אל נא תקברני במצרים
ἤγγισαν δὲ αἱ ἡμέραι Ισραηλ τοῦ ἀποθανεῖν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ Ιωσηφ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Εἰ εὕρηκα χάριν ἐναντίον σου, ὑπόθες τὴν χεῖρά σου ὑπὸ τὸν μηρόν μου καὶ ποιήσεις ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἐλεημοσύνην καὶ ἀλήθειαν τοῦ μή με θάψαι ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ,
When the days of Israelⓘ drew near for him to die, he called his son Yosèf and said to him: «If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my thighⓘ and deal with me in kindness and faithfulnessⓘ — do not bury me in Egypt.
30
ושכבתי עם אבתי ונשאתני ממצרים וקברתני בקברתם ויאמר אנכי אעשה כדברך
ἀλλὰ κοιμηθήσομαι μετὰ τῶν πατέρων μου, καὶ ἀρεῖς με ἐξ Αἰγύπτου καὶ θάψεις με ἐν τῷ τάφῳ αὐτῶν. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ἐγὼ ποιήσω κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμά σου.
I shall lie with my fathers; carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their sepulcherⓘ». He answered: «I will do according to your wordⓘ».
31
ויאמר השבעה לי וישבע לו וישתחו ישראל על ראש המטה
εἶπεν δέ Ὄμοσόν μοι. καὶ ὤμοσεν αὐτῷ. καὶ προσεκύνησεν Ισραηλ ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τῆς ῥάβδου αὐτοῦ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——He said: «Swear it to meⓘ». And he swore it to him. And Israel bowed down upon the top of his staffⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——He said: «Swear it to meⓘ». And he swore it to himⓘ. And Israel bowed down at the head of the staffⓘ.
