אחר הדברים האלה היה דבר יהוה אל אברם במחזה לאמר אל תירא אברם אנכי מגן לך שכרך הרבה מאד
Μετὰ δὲ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα ἐγενήθη ῥῆμα κυρίου πρὸς Αβραμ ἐν ὁράματι λέγων Μὴ φοβοῦ, Αβραμ· ἐγὼ ὑπερασπίζω σου· ὁ μισθός σου πολὺς ἔσται σφόδρα.
After these events, the Word of the Tetragrammatonⓘ came to Avràm in a prophetic visionⓘ, saying: Fear not, Avràm; I myself am a shieldⓘ for you, your reward shall be exceedingly great.

ויאמר אברם אדני יהוה מה תתן לי ואנכי הולך ערירי ובן משק ביתי הוא דמשק אליעזר
λέγει δὲ Αβραμ Δέσποτα, τί μοι δώσεις; ἐγὼ δὲ ἀπολύομαι ἄτεκνος· ὁ δὲ υἱὸς Μασεκ τῆς οἰκογενοῦς μου, οὗτος Δαμασκὸς Ελιεζερ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Avràm said: Sovereignⓘ, what wilt thou give me? I go childlessⓘ; and the son of Masek, my houseborn maidservantⓘ, this is Damascus Elièzer.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And Avràm answered: My Lord, the Tetragrammatonⓘ, what wilt thou give me? I go without progenyⓘ, and the one who shall inherit my houseⓘ is Elièzer of Damascus.

ויאמר אברם הן לי לא נתתה זרע והנה בן ביתי יורש אתי
καὶ εἶπεν Αβραμ Ἐπειδὴ ἐμοὶ οὐκ ἔδωκας σπέρμα, ὁ δὲ οἰκογενής μου κληρονομήσει με.
And Avràm said further: Beholdⓘ, thou hast given me no progenyⓘ, and a servant born in my house shall be my heir.

והנה דבר יהוה אליו לאמר לא יירשך זה כי אם אשר יצא ממעיך הוא יירשך
καὶ εὐθὺς φωνὴ κυρίου ἐγένετο πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγων Οὐ κληρονομήσει σε οὗτος, ἀλλ’ ὃς ἐξελεύσεται ἐκ σοῦ, οὗτος κληρονομήσει σε.
And behold the Word of the Tetragrammatonⓘ came to him: This one shall not inherit thee, but he who shall come forth from thine own bowelsⓘ, he shall inherit thee.

ויוצא אתו החוצה ויאמר הבט נא השמימה וספר הכוכבים אם תוכל לספר אתם ויאמר לו כה יהיה זרעך
ἐξήγαγεν δὲ αὐτὸν ἔξω καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἀνάβλεψον δὴ εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ ἀρίθμησον τοὺς ἀστέρας, εἰ δυνήσῃ ἐξαριθμῆσαι αὐτούς. καὶ εἶπεν Οὕτως ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα σου.
And he brought him outsideⓘ and said to him: Look toward the heavens and count the stars, if ever thou be able to count them; so shall thy progeny beⓘ.

והאמן ביהוה ויחשבה לו צדקה
καὶ ἐπίστευσεν Αβραμ τῷ θεῷ, καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην.
And Avràm believed in the Tetragrammatonⓘ, and He reckoned it to him as righteousnessⓘ.

ויאמר אליו אני יהוה אשר הוצאתיך מאור כשדים לתת לך את הארץ הזאת לרשתה
εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτόν Ἐγὼ ὁ θεὸς ὁ ἐξαγαγών σε ἐκ χώρας Χαλδαίων ὥστε δοῦναί σοι τὴν γῆν ταύτην κληρονομῆσαι.
And he said to him: I am the Tetragrammatonⓘ who brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldeansⓘ to give thee this land for an inheritance.

ויאמר אדני יהוה במה אדע כי אירשנה
εἶπεν δέ Δέσποτα κύριε, κατὰ τί γνώσομαι ὅτι κληρονομήσω αὐτήν;
And Avràm said: My Lord, the Tetragrammatonⓘ, whereby shall I know that I shall possess it?

ויאמר אליו קחה לי עגלה משלשת ועז משלשת ואיל משלש ותר וגוזל
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Λαβέ μοι δάμαλιν τριετίζουσαν καὶ αἶγα τριετίζουσαν καὶ κριὸν τριετίζοντα καὶ τρυγόνα καὶ περιστεράν.
And he said to him: Take me a heifer three years oldⓘ, a she-goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove and a young pigeonⓘ.

ויקח לו את כל אלה ויבתר אתם בתוך ויתן איש בתרו לקראת רעהו ואת הצפר לא בתר
ἔλαβεν δὲ αὐτῷ πάντα ταῦτα καὶ διεῖλεν αὐτὰ μέσα καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὰ ἀντιπρόσωπα ἀλλήλοις, τὰ δὲ ὄρνεα οὐ διεῖλεν.
And he took all these animals, he divided them in the midstⓘ and laid each half opposite the other; but the birds he did not divide.

וירד העיט על הפגרים וישב אתם אברם
κατέβη δὲ ὄρνεα ἐπὶ τὰ σώματα, τὰ διχοτομήματα αὐτῶν, καὶ συνεκάθισεν αὐτοῖς Αβραμ.
And the birds of preyⓘ came down upon the carcasses, upon their divided halvesⓘ, but Avràm drove them away.

ויהי השמש לבוא ותרדמה נפלה על אברם והנה אימה חשכה גדלה נפלת עליו
περὶ δὲ ἡλίου δυσμὰς ἔκστασις ἐπέπεσεν τῷ Αβραμ, καὶ ἰδοὺ φόβος σκοτεινὸς μέγας ἐπιπίπτει αὐτῷ.
At the setting of the sunⓘ, a deep torporⓘ fell upon Avràm, and behold a terror of thick darknessⓘ fell upon him.

ויאמר לאברם ידע תדע כי גר יהיה זרעך בארץ לא להם ועבדום וענו אתם ארבע מאות שנה
καὶ ἐρρέθη πρὸς Αβραμ Γινώσκων γνώσῃ ὅτι πάροικον ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα σου ἐν γῇ οὐκ ἰδίᾳ, καὶ δουλώσουσιν αὐτοὺς καὶ κακώσουσιν αὐτοὺς καὶ ταπεινώσουσιν αὐτοὺς τετρακόσια ἔτη.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And it was said to Avràm: Knowing thou shalt knowⓘ that thy progenyⓘ shall be a resident alienⓘ in a land not theirs, and they shall reduce them to slavery, ill-treat them and humble themⓘ for four hundred years.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And it was said to Avràm: Know for certain that thy progeny shall be a sojournerⓘ in a land not theirs; they shall be reduced to slavery, oppressedⓘ and humbledⓘ for four hundred years.

וגם את הגוי אשר יעבדו דן אנכי ואחרי כן יצאו ברכש גדול
τὸ δὲ ἔθνος, ᾧ ἐὰν δουλεύσωσιν, κρινῶ ἐγώ· μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ἐξελεύσονται ὧδε μετὰ ἀποσκευῆς πολλῆς.
But the nation that shall have reduced them to slavery, I myself will judge, and afterward they shall come out from hereⓘ with great possessions.

ואתה תבוא אל אבתיך בשלום תקבר בשיבה טובה
σὺ δὲ ἀπελεύσῃ πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας σου μετ’ εἰρήνης, ταφεὶς ἐν γήρει καλῷ.
And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace and shalt be buried in a good old ageⓘ.

ודור רביעי ישובו הנה כי לא שלם עון האמרי עד הנה
τετάρτη δὲ γενεὰ ἀποστραφήσονται ὧδε· οὔπω γὰρ ἀναπεπλήρωνται αἱ ἁμαρτίαι τῶν Αμορραίων ἕως τοῦ νῦν.
At the fourth generation they shall return here, for the guiltⓘ of the Amorite is not yet full unto this moment.

ויהי השמש באה ועלטה היה והנה תנור עשן ולפיד אש אשר עבר בין הגזרים האלה
ἐπεὶ δὲ ἐγίνετο ὁ ἥλιος πρὸς δυσμαῖς, φλὸξ ἐγένετο, καὶ ἰδοὺ κλίβανος καπνιζόμενος καὶ λαμπάδες πυρός, αἳ διῆλθον ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν διχοτομημάτων τούτων.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And when the sun was at its settingⓘ, a flame aroseⓘ; and behold a smoking furnaceⓘ and torches of fireⓘ, which passed between those divided halves.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And when the sun set and it became thick darknessⓘ, a flame aroseⓘ; behold there appeared a smoking furnaceⓘ and a torch of fireⓘ which passed between those divided halves.

ביום ההוא כרת יהוה את אברם ברית לאמר לזרעך נתתי את הארץ הזאת מנהר מצרים עד הנהר הגדל נהר פרת
ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ διέθετο κύριος τῷ Αβραμ διαθήκην λέγων Τῷ σπέρματί σου δώσω τὴν γῆν ταύτην ἀπὸ τοῦ ποταμοῦ Αἰγύπτου ἕως τοῦ ποταμοῦ τοῦ μεγάλου, ποταμοῦ Εὐφράτου,
On that day the Tetragrammaton established a covenant with Avràmⓘ, saying: To thy progeny I have given this land, from the river of Egyptⓘ unto the great river, the river Perat.

את הקיני ואת הקנזי ואת הקדמני
τοὺς Καιναίους καὶ τοὺς Κενεζαίους καὶ τοὺς Κεδμωναίους
The land of the Kenite, the Kenizzite, the Kadmonite,
20
ואת החתי ואת הפרזי ואת הרפאים
καὶ τοὺς Χετταίους καὶ τοὺς Φερεζαίους καὶ τοὺς Ραφαιν
the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Refaìmⓘ,
21
ואת האמרי ואת הכנעני ואת הגרגשי ואת היבוסי
καὶ τοὺς Αμορραίους καὶ τοὺς Χαναναίους καὶ τοὺς Ευαίους καὶ τοὺς Γεργεσαίους καὶ τοὺς Ιεβουσαίους.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Hivitesⓘ, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.—— Masoretic (MT) ——the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hivitesⓘ, the Girgashite and the Jebusite.
