והרעב כבד בארץ
Ὁ δὲ λιμὸς ἐνίσχυσεν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.
And ⓘ was grievous, heavy upon the land.

ויהי כאשר כלו לאכל את השבר אשר הביאו ממצרים ויאמר אליהם אביהם שבו שברו לנו מעט אכל
ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα συνετέλεσαν καταφαγεῖν τὸν σῖτον, ὃν ἤνεγκαν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ πατὴρ αὐτῶν Πάλιν πορευθέντες πρίασθε ἡμῖν μικρὰ βρώματα.
And it came to pass, when they had finished consuming the grain they had brought from Mitzràyim, that ⓘ: «Go back, buy us a little ⓘ».

ויאמר אליו יהודה לאמר העד העד בנו האיש לאמר לא תראו פני בלתי אחיכם אתכם
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ιουδας λέγων Διαμαρτυρίᾳ διαμεμαρτύρηται ἡμῖν ὁ ἄνθρωπος λέγων Οὐκ ὄψεσθε τὸ πρόσωπόν μου, ἐὰν μὴ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν ὁ νεώτερος μεθ’ ὑμῶν ᾖ.
And Yehudàh answered him: «ⓘ that man, saying: You shall not see my face unless your brother ⓘ is with you».

אם ישך משלח את אחינו אתנו נרדה ונשברה לך אכל
εἰ μὲν οὖν ἀποστέλλεις τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἡμῶν μεθ’ ἡμῶν, καταβησόμεθα καὶ ἀγοράσωμέν σοι βρώματα·
If you consent to send our brother with us, we will go down and buy you the food;

ואם אינך משלח לא נרד כי האיש אמר אלינו לא תראו פני בלתי אחיכם אתכם
εἰ δὲ μὴ ἀποστέλλεις τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἡμῶν μεθ’ ἡμῶν, οὐ πορευσόμεθα· ὁ γὰρ ἄνθρωπος εἶπεν ἡμῖν λέγων Οὐκ ὄψεσθέ μου τὸ πρόσωπον, ἐὰν μὴ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν ὁ νεώτερος μεθ’ ὑμῶν ᾖ.
but if you do not send him, we will not go down, for that man said to us: You shall not see my face unless your brother ⓘ is with you.

ויאמר ישראל למה הרעתם לי להגיד לאיש העוד לכם אח
εἶπεν δὲ Ισραηλ Τί ἐκακοποιήσατέ με ἀναγγείλαντες τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ εἰ ἔστιν ὑμῖν ἀδελφός;
And Israèl said: «Why have you done me this harm, by revealing to that man that you still had a brother?».

ויאמרו שאול שאל האיש לנו ולמולדתנו לאמר העוד אביכם חי היש לכם אח ונגד לו על פי הדברים האלה הידוע נדע כי יאמר הורידו את אחיכם
οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ἐρωτῶν ἐπηρώτησεν ἡμᾶς ὁ ἄνθρωπος καὶ τὴν γενεὰν ἡμῶν λέγων Εἰ ἔτι ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν ζῇ; εἰ ἔστιν ὑμῖν ἀδελφός; καὶ ἀπηγγείλαμεν αὐτῷ κατὰ τὴν ἐπερώτησιν ταύτην. μὴ ᾔδειμεν εἰ ἐρεῖ ἡμῖν Ἀγάγετε τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν;
And they answered: «ⓘ that man about us and about our ⓘ, saying: Is your father still alive? Have you a brother? And we answered him according to these questions of his. How could we know that he would say: Bring your brother down?».

ויאמר יהודה אל ישראל אביו שלחה הנער אתי ונקומה ונלכה ונחיה ולא נמות גם אנחנו גם אתה גם טפנו
εἶπεν δὲ Ιουδας πρὸς Ισραηλ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ Ἀπόστειλον τὸ παιδάριον μετ’ ἐμοῦ, καὶ ἀναστάντες πορευσόμεθα, ἵνα ζῶμεν καὶ μὴ ἀποθάνωμεν καὶ ἡμεῖς καὶ σὺ καὶ ἡ ἀποσκευὴ ἡμῶν.
And Yehudàh said to Israèl his father: «Send the boy with me, and we will arise and go, so that we may live and not die, we and you and ⓘ.

אנכי אערבנו מידי תבקשנו אם לא הביאתיו אליך והצגתיו לפניך וחטאתי לך כל הימים
ἐγὼ δὲ ἐκδέχομαι αὐτόν, ἐκ χειρός μου ζήτησον αὐτόν· ἐὰν μὴ ἀγάγω αὐτὸν πρὸς σὲ καὶ στήσω αὐτὸν ἐναντίον σου, ἡμαρτηκὼς ἔσομαι πρὸς σὲ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας.
ⓘ: from my hand you shall require him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, ⓘ.

כי לולא התמהמהנו כי עתה שבנו זה פעמים
εἰ μὴ γὰρ ἐβραδύναμεν, ἤδη ἂν ὑπεστρέψαμεν δίς.
For if we had not delayed so long, by now we would already have returned ⓘ.

ויאמר אלהם ישראל אביהם אם כן אפוא זאת עשו קחו מזמרת הארץ בכליכם והורידו לאיש מנחה מעט צרי ומעט דבש נכאת ולט בטנים ושקדים
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ισραηλ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτῶν Εἰ οὕτως ἐστίν, τοῦτο ποιήσατε· λάβετε ἀπὸ τῶν καρπῶν τῆς γῆς ἐν τοῖς ἀγγείοις ὑμῶν καὶ καταγάγετε τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ δῶρα, τῆς ῥητίνης καὶ τοῦ μέλιτος, θυμίαμα καὶ στακτὴν καὶ τερέμινθον καὶ κάρυα.
And Israèl, their father, said to them: «If it must be so, then do this: take ⓘ in your vessels and carry down to that man a gift: a little ⓘ, a little honey, ⓘ and ⓘ, ⓘ and almonds.

וכסף משנה קחו בידכם ואת הכסף המושב בפי אמתחתיכם תשיבו בידכם אולי משגה הוא
καὶ τὸ ἀργύριον δισσὸν λάβετε ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν ὑμῶν· τὸ ἀργύριον τὸ ἀποστραφὲν ἐν τοῖς μαρσίπποις ὑμῶν ἀποστρέψατε μεθ’ ὑμῶν· μήποτε ἀγνόημά ἐστιν.
And take double the silver with you, and the silver that was put back at the mouth of your sacks bring back with you: perhaps it was ⓘ.

ואת אחיכם קחו וקומו שובו אל האיש
καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν λάβετε καὶ ἀναστάντες κατάβητε πρὸς τὸν ἄνθρωπον.
And take your brother, arise and return to that man.
14
ואל שדי יתן לכם רחמים לפני האיש ושלח לכם את אחיכם אחר ואת בנימין ואני כאשר שכלתי שכלתי
ὁ δὲ θεός μου δῴη ὑμῖν χάριν ἐναντίον τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, καὶ ἀποστείλαι τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν τὸν ἕνα καὶ τὸν Βενιαμιν· ἐγὼ μὲν γάρ, καθὰ ἠτέκνωμαι, ἠτέκνωμαι.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——ⓘ grant you ⓘ before that man, and send away ⓘ and Benyamìn; as for me, ⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And ⓘ grant you ⓘ before that man, and send back to you ⓘ and Binyamìn; as for me, ⓘ.

ויקחו האנשים את המנחה הזאת ומשנה כסף לקחו בידם ואת בנימן ויקמו וירדו מצרים ויעמדו לפני יוסף
Λαβόντες δὲ οἱ ἄνδρες τὰ δῶρα ταῦτα καὶ τὸ ἀργύριον διπλοῦν ἔλαβον ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν καὶ τὸν Βενιαμιν καὶ ἀναστάντες κατέβησαν εἰς Αἴγυπτον καὶ ἔστησαν ἐναντίον Ιωσηφ.
And those men took this gift, and double the silver they took with them, and Binyamìn, and they arose and went down to Mitzràyim and presented themselves before Iosèf.

וירא יוסף אתם את בנימין ויאמר לאשר על ביתו הבא את האנשים הביתה וטבח טבח והכן כי אתי יאכלו האנשים בצהרים
εἶδεν δὲ Ιωσηφ αὐτοὺς καὶ τὸν Βενιαμιν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ τὸν ὁμομήτριον καὶ εἶπεν τῷ ἐπὶ τῆς οἰκίας αὐτοῦ Εἰσάγαγε τοὺς ἀνθρώπους εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν καὶ σφάξον θύματα καὶ ἑτοίμασον· μετ’ ἐμοῦ γὰρ φάγονται οἱ ἄνθρωποι ἄρτους τὴν μεσημβρίαν.
And Iosèf saw with them ⓘ, and said to him who was over his house: «Bring these men into the house, slaughter an animal and prepare everything, for these men shall eat with me at noon».

ויעש האיש כאשר אמר יוסף ויבא האיש את האנשים ביתה יוסף
ἐποίησεν δὲ ὁ ἄνθρωπος, καθὰ εἶπεν Ιωσηφ, καὶ εἰσήγαγεν τοὺς ἀνθρώπους εἰς τὸν οἶκον Ιωσηφ. –
And that man did as Iosèf had said, and brought the men into the house of Iosèf.

וייראו האנשים כי הובאו בית יוסף ויאמרו על דבר הכסף השב באמתחתינו בתחלה אנחנו מובאים להתגלל עלינו ולהתנפל עלינו ולקחת אתנו לעבדים ואת חמרינו
ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ἄνθρωποι ὅτι εἰσήχθησαν εἰς τὸν οἶκον Ιωσηφ, εἶπαν Διὰ τὸ ἀργύριον τὸ ἀποστραφὲν ἐν τοῖς μαρσίπποις ἡμῶν τὴν ἀρχὴν ἡμεῖς εἰσαγόμεθα τοῦ συκοφαντῆσαι ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐπιθέσθαι ἡμῖν τοῦ λαβεῖν ἡμᾶς εἰς παῖδας καὶ τοὺς ὄνους ἡμῶν.
And those men were afraid, because they had been brought into the house of Iosèf, and they said: «Because of the silver put back in our sacks the first time we are brought here, ⓘ and to fall upon us, to take us as slaves, we and our donkeys».

ויגשו אל האיש אשר על בית יוסף וידברו אליו פתח הבית
προσελθόντες δὲ πρὸς τὸν ἄνθρωπον τὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ οἴκου Ιωσηφ ἐλάλησαν αὐτῷ ἐν τῷ πυλῶνι τοῦ οἴκου
And they drew near to the man who was over the house of Iosèf and spoke to him ⓘ.
20
ויאמרו בי אדני ירד ירדנו בתחלה לשבר אכל
λέγοντες Δεόμεθα, κύριε· κατέβημεν τὴν ἀρχὴν πρίασθαι βρώματα·
And they said: «We pray you, ⓘ, we surely came down the first time to buy food;
21
ויהי כי באנו אל המלון ונפתחה את אמתחתינו והנה כסף איש בפי אמתחתו כספנו במשקלו ונשב אתו בידנו
ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα ἤλθομεν εἰς τὸ καταλῦσαι καὶ ἠνοίξαμεν τοὺς μαρσίππους ἡμῶν, καὶ τόδε τὸ ἀργύριον ἑκάστου ἐν τῷ μαρσίππῳ αὐτοῦ· τὸ ἀργύριον ἡμῶν ἐν σταθμῷ ἀπεστρέψαμεν νῦν ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν ἡμῶν
and it came to pass, when we reached the place of lodging for the night and opened our sacks, behold, each man's silver was at the mouth of his sack — our silver ⓘ: and now we have brought it back with us.
22
וכסף אחר הורדנו בידנו לשבר אכל לא ידענו מי שם כספנו באמתחתינו
καὶ ἀργύριον ἕτερον ἠνέγκαμεν μεθ’ ἑαυτῶν ἀγοράσαι βρώματα· οὐκ οἴδαμεν, τίς ἐνέβαλεν τὸ ἀργύριον εἰς τοὺς μαρσίππους ἡμῶν.
And other new silver we have brought with us to buy food: we do not know who put our silver in our sacks».

ויאמר שלום לכם אל תיראו אלהיכם ואלהי אביכם נתן לכם מטמון באמתחתיכם כספכם בא אלי ויוצא אלהם את שמעון
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἵλεως ὑμῖν, μὴ φοβεῖσθε· ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν καὶ ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν ἔδωκεν ὑμῖν θησαυροὺς ἐν τοῖς μαρσίπποις ὑμῶν, τὸ δὲ ἀργύριον ὑμῶν εὐδοκιμοῦν ἀπέχω. καὶ ἐξήγαγεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς τὸν Συμεων
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And he said to them: «ⓘ, do not fear. Your God and the God of ⓘ has given you ⓘ in your sacks; ⓘ». And he brought out Symeòn to them.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And he said to them: «ⓘ. Your God and the God of ⓘ has put for you ⓘ in your sacks; your silver has come to me, I have received it». And he brought out Shimʿòn to them.

ויבא האיש את האנשים ביתה יוסף ויתן מים וירחצו רגליהם ויתן מספוא לחמריהם
καὶ ἤνεγκεν ὕδωρ νίψαι τοὺς πόδας αὐτῶν καὶ ἔδωκεν χορτάσματα τοῖς ὄνοις αὐτῶν.
And he brought those men into the house of Iosèf, and ⓘ that they might wash their feet, and gave fodder for their donkeys.
25
ויכינו את המנחה עד בוא יוסף בצהרים כי שמעו כי שם יאכלו לחם
ἡτοίμασαν δὲ τὰ δῶρα ἕως τοῦ ἐλθεῖν Ιωσηφ μεσημβρίας· ἤκουσαν γὰρ ὅτι ἐκεῖ μέλλει ἀριστᾶν.
And they prepared the gift while awaiting Iosèf's coming at noon, for they had heard that there they ⓘ.

ויבא יוסף הביתה ויביאו לו את המנחה אשר בידם הביתה וישתחוו לו ארצה
Εἰσῆλθεν δὲ Ιωσηφ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν, καὶ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ τὰ δῶρα, ἃ εἶχον ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν, εἰς τὸν οἶκον καὶ προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.
And Iosèf came into the house, and they brought him within the house the gift that was in their hands, and they prostrated themselves before him ⓘ.

וישאל להם לשלום ויאמר השלום אביכם הזקן אשר אמרתם העודנו חי
ἠρώτησεν δὲ αὐτούς Πῶς ἔχετε; καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Εἰ ὑγιαίνει ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν ὁ πρεσβύτερος, ὃν εἴπατε; ἔτι ζῇ;
And he asked them of their peace, of their welfare, and said: «ⓘ of whom you spoke to me? Is he still alive?».

ויאמרו שלום לעבדך לאבינו עודנו חי ויקדו וישתחו וישתחוו
οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ὑγιαίνει ὁ παῖς σου ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν, ἔτι ζῇ. καὶ εἶπεν Εὐλογητὸς ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἐκεῖνος τῷ θεῷ. καὶ κύψαντες προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And they said: «ⓘ». ⓘ. And, bowing down, they prostrated themselves before him.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And they answered: «Your servant, our father, is well, he is still alive». And they bowed and prostrated themselves. ⓘ.

וישא עיניו וירא את בנימין אחיו בן אמו ויאמר הזה אחיכם הקטן אשר אמרתם אלי ויאמר אלהים יחנך בני
ἀναβλέψας δὲ τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς Ιωσηφ εἶδεν Βενιαμιν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ τὸν ὁμομήτριον καὶ εἶπεν Οὗτος ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν ὁ νεώτερος, ὃν εἴπατε πρός με ἀγαγεῖν; καὶ εἶπεν Ὁ θεὸς ἐλεήσαι σε, τέκνον.
And he lifted up his eyes and saw Binyamìn, his brother, son of his own mother, and said: «Is this your younger brother of whom you spoke to me?». And he added: «ⓘ, my son».

וימהר יוסף כי נכמרו רחמיו אל אחיו ויבקש לבכות ויבא החדרה ויבך שמה
ἐταράχθη δὲ Ιωσηφ – συνεστρέφετο γὰρ τὰ ἔντερα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ – καὶ ἐζήτει κλαῦσαι· εἰσελθὼν δὲ εἰς τὸ ταμιεῖον ἔκλαυσεν ἐκεῖ.
And Iosèf made haste to go out, because ⓘ for his brother, and he sought to weep; and he entered into the inner chamber and wept there.
31
וירחץ פניו ויצא ויתאפק ויאמר שימו לחם
καὶ νιψάμενος τὸ πρόσωπον ἐξελθὼν ἐνεκρατεύσατο καὶ εἶπεν Παράθετε ἄρτους.
And he washed his face, came out, ⓘ and said: «Bring the bread, serve the food».
32
וישימו לו לבדו ולהם לבדם ולמצרים האכלים אתו לבדם כי לא יוכלון המצרים לאכל את העברים לחם כי תועבה הוא למצרים
καὶ παρέθηκαν αὐτῷ μόνῳ καὶ αὐτοῖς καθ’ ἑαυτοὺς καὶ τοῖς Αἰγυπτίοις τοῖς συνδειπνοῦσιν μετ’ αὐτοῦ καθ’ ἑαυτούς· οὐ γὰρ ἐδύναντο οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι συνεσθίειν μετὰ τῶν Εβραίων ἄρτους, βδέλυγμα γάρ ἐστιν τοῖς Αἰγυπτίοις.
And they served him alone, and them alone, and the Egyptians who ate with him alone: ⓘ, ⓘ.
33
וישבו לפניו הבכר כבכרתו והצעיר כצערתו ויתמהו האנשים איש אל רעהו
ἐκάθισαν δὲ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ, ὁ πρωτότοκος κατὰ τὰ πρεσβεῖα αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ νεώτερος κατὰ τὴν νεότητα αὐτοῦ· ἐξίσταντο δὲ οἱ ἄνθρωποι ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ.
And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his right of primogeniture and the youngest according to his youth, and ⓘ.
34
וישא משאת מאת פניו אלהם ותרב משאת בנימן ממשאת כלם חמש ידות וישתו וישכרו עמו
ἦραν δὲ μερίδας παρ’ αὐτοῦ πρὸς αὐτούς· ἐμεγαλύνθη δὲ ἡ μερὶς Βενιαμιν παρὰ τὰς μερίδας πάντων πενταπλασίως πρὸς τὰς ἐκείνων. ἔπιον δὲ καὶ ἐμεθύσθησαν μετ’ αὐτοῦ.
And portions were carried to them ⓘ, and Binyamìn's portion was ⓘ than the portion of all the others; and they drank and ⓘ.
