ויהי רעב בארץ מלבד הרעב הראשון אשר היה בימי אברהם וילך יצחק אל אבימלך מלך פלשתים גררה
Ἐγένετο δὲ λιμὸς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς χωρὶς τοῦ λιμοῦ τοῦ πρότερον, ὃς ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ χρόνῳ τῷ Αβρααμ· ἐπορεύθη δὲ Ισαακ πρὸς Αβιμελεχ βασιλέα Φυλιστιιμ εἰς Γεραρα.
And there was a ⓘ in the land, besides the ⓘ that had been in the days of Avrahàm; and Yitzchàq went to ⓘ king of the Pelishtìm, to Gheràr.

וירא אליו יהוה ויאמר אל תרד מצרימה שכן בארץ אשר אמר אליך
ὤφθη δὲ αὐτῷ κύριος καὶ εἶπεν Μὴ καταβῇς εἰς Αἴγυπτον· κατοίκησον δὲ ἐν τῇ γῇ, ᾗ ἄν σοι εἴπω.
And the Tetragrammaton appeared to him and said: «Do not go down into ⓘ; dwell in the land that ⓘ».

גור בארץ הזאת ואהיה עמך ואברכך כי לך ולזרעך אתן את כל הארצת האל והקמתי את השבעה אשר נשבעתי לאברהם אביך
καὶ παροίκει ἐν τῇ γῇ ταύτῃ, καὶ ἔσομαι μετὰ σοῦ καὶ εὐλογήσω σε· σοὶ γὰρ καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου δώσω πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ταύτην καὶ στήσω τὸν ὅρκον μου, ὃν ὤμοσα Αβρααμ τῷ πατρί σου.
Sojourn as a ⓘ in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and to your seed I will give ⓘ, and I will uphold ⓘ that I swore to Avrahàm your father.

והרביתי את זרעך ככוכבי השמים ונתתי לזרעך את כל הארצת האל והתברכו בזרעך כל גויי הארץ
καὶ πληθυνῶ τὸ σπέρμα σου ὡς τοὺς ἀστέρας τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ δώσω τῷ σπέρματί σου πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ταύτην, καὶ ἐνευλογηθήσονται ἐν τῷ σπέρματί σου πάντα τὰ ἔθνη τῆς γῆς,
And I will multiply your seed like the stars of the heavens and give to your seed ⓘ, and ⓘ all the nations of the earth;

עקב אשר שמע אברהם בקלי וישמר משמרתי מצותי חקותי ותורתי
ἀνθ’ ὧν ὑπήκουσεν Αβρααμ ὁ πατήρ σου τῆς ἐμῆς φωνῆς καὶ ἐφύλαξεν τὰ προστάγματά μου καὶ τὰς ἐντολάς μου καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου καὶ τὰ νόμιμά μου.
in return for the fact that ⓘ Avrahàm ⓘ and kept my ⓘ, my commandments, my ⓘ and my ⓘ».

וישב יצחק בגרר
καὶ κατῴκησεν Ισαακ ἐν Γεραροις.
And Yitzchàq dwelt at Gheràr.

וישאלו אנשי המקום לאשתו ויאמר אחתי הוא כי ירא לאמר אשתי פן יהרגני אנשי המקום על רבקה כי טובת מראה היא
Ἐπηρώτησαν δὲ οἱ ἄνδρες τοῦ τόπου περὶ Ρεβεκκας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἶπεν Ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν· ἐφοβήθη γὰρ εἰπεῖν ὅτι Γυνή μού ἐστιν, μήποτε ἀποκτείνωσιν αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τοῦ τόπου περὶ Ρεβεκκας, ὅτι ὡραία τῇ ὄψει ἦν.
And ⓘ the men of the place asked about his wife, and he said: «She is my sister», for he feared to say «my wife», lest the men of the place kill him because of ⓘ, for she was beautiful in appearance.

ויהי כי ארכו לו שם הימים וישקף אבימלך מלך פלשתים בעד החלון וירא והנה יצחק מצחק את רבקה אשתו
ἐγένετο δὲ πολυχρόνιος ἐκεῖ· παρακύψας δὲ Αβιμελεχ ὁ βασιλεὺς Γεραρων διὰ τῆς θυρίδος εἶδεν τὸν Ισαακ παίζοντα μετὰ Ρεβεκκας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ.
And it came to pass, ⓘ, that Avimèlekh king of the Pelishtìm looked out from the window and saw, and behold Yitzchàq ⓘ Rivqàh his wife.

ויקרא אבימלך ליצחק ויאמר אך הנה אשתך הוא ואיך אמרת אחתי הוא ויאמר אליו יצחק כי אמרתי פן אמות עליה
ἐκάλεσεν δὲ Αβιμελεχ τὸν Ισαακ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἄρα γε γυνή σού ἐστιν· τί ὅτι εἶπας Ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν; εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ισαακ Εἶπα γάρ Μήποτε ἀποθάνω δι’ αὐτήν.
And Avimèlekh called Yitzchàq and said: «So behold, she is your wife; and how did you say: She is my sister?». And Yitzchàq said to him: «Because I said: Lest I die on her account».

ויאמר אבימלך מה זאת עשית לנו כמעט שכב אחד העם את אשתך והבאת עלינו אשם
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Αβιμελεχ Τί τοῦτο ἐποίησας ἡμῖν; μικροῦ ἐκοιμήθη τις τοῦ γένους μου μετὰ τῆς γυναικός σου, καὶ ἐπήγαγες ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς ἄγνοιαν.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Avimèlekh said to him: «What is this you have done to us? A little more and ⓘ would have lain with your wife, and you would have brought upon us ⓘ».—— Masoretic (MT) ——And Avimèlekh said: «What is this you have done to us? A little more and one ⓘ would have lain with your wife, and you would have brought upon us a ⓘ».

ויצו אבימלך את כל העם לאמר הנגע באיש הזה ובאשתו מות יומת
συνέταξεν δὲ Αβιμελεχ παντὶ τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ λέγων Πᾶς ὁ ἁπτόμενος τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου ἢ τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ θανάτου ἔνοχος ἔσται.
And Avimèlekh ordered all the people, saying: «Whoever ⓘ this man and his wife shall surely be put to death».

ויזרע יצחק בארץ ההוא וימצא בשנה ההוא מאה שערים ויברכהו יהוה
Ἔσπειρεν δὲ Ισαακ ἐν τῇ γῇ ἐκείνῃ καὶ εὗρεν ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ ἐκείνῳ ἑκατοστεύουσαν κριθήν· εὐλόγησεν δὲ αὐτὸν κύριος.

ויגדל האיש וילך הלוך וגדל עד כי גדל מאד
καὶ ὑψώθη ὁ ἄνθρωπος καὶ προβαίνων μείζων ἐγίνετο, ἕως οὗ μέγας ἐγένετο σφόδρα·
And ⓘ and went on growing greater and greater, until he became very great;

ויהי לו מקנה צאן ומקנה בקר ועבדה רבה ויקנאו אתו פלשתים
ἐγένετο δὲ αὐτῷ κτήνη προβάτων καὶ κτήνη βοῶν καὶ γεώργια πολλά. ἐζήλωσαν δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ Φυλιστιιμ,
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And there came to him herds of flocks and herds of cattle and ⓘ; and the Phylistìm envied him.—— Masoretic (MT) ——and he had possession of flocks and possession of cattle and ⓘ; and the Pelishtìm envied him.

וכל הבארת אשר חפרו עבדי אביו בימי אברהם אביו סתמום פלשתים וימלאום עפר
καὶ πάντα τὰ φρέατα, ἃ ὤρυξαν οἱ παῖδες τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ χρόνῳ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ, ἐνέφραξαν αὐτὰ οἱ Φυλιστιιμ καὶ ἔπλησαν αὐτὰ γῆς.
And all the wells that his father's servants had dug ⓘ, the Pelishtìm stopped up and filled with earth.

ויאמר אבימלך אל יצחק לך מעמנו כי עצמת ממנו מאד
εἶπεν δὲ Αβιμελεχ πρὸς Ισαακ Ἄπελθε ἀφ’ ἡμῶν, ὅτι δυνατώτερος ἡμῶν ἐγένου σφόδρα.
And Avimèlekh said to Yitzchàq: «Go away from us, for you have become much ⓘ than we».
17
וילך משם יצחק ויחן בנחל גרר וישב שם
καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἐκεῖθεν Ισαακ καὶ κατέλυσεν ἐν τῇ φάραγγι Γεραρων καὶ κατῴκησεν ἐκεῖ.
And Yitzchàq went away from there and encamped in the ⓘ and dwelt there.

וישב יצחק ויחפר את בארת המים אשר חפרו בימי אברהם אביו ויסתמום פלשתים אחרי מות אברהם ויקרא להן שמות כשמת אשר קרא להן אביו
καὶ πάλιν Ισαακ ὤρυξεν τὰ φρέατα τοῦ ὕδατος, ἃ ὤρυξαν οἱ παῖδες Αβρααμ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐνέφραξαν αὐτὰ οἱ Φυλιστιιμ μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανεῖν Αβρααμ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν αὐτοῖς ὀνόματα κατὰ τὰ ὀνόματα, ἃ ἐπωνόμασεν Αβρααμ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ.
And Yitzchàq dug again the wells of water that they had dug in the days of Avrahàm his father and that the Pelishtìm had stopped up after the death of Avrahàm, and he ⓘ that his father had given them.

ויחפרו עבדי יצחק בנחל וימצאו שם באר מים חיים
καὶ ὤρυξαν οἱ παῖδες Ισαακ ἐν τῇ φάραγγι Γεραρων καὶ εὗρον ἐκεῖ φρέαρ ὕδατος ζῶντος.
And the servants of Yitzchàq dug in the wadi and found there a well of ⓘ.

ויריבו רעי גרר עם רעי יצחק לאמר לנו המים ויקרא שם הבאר עשק כי התעשקו עמו
καὶ ἐμαχέσαντο οἱ ποιμένες Γεραρων μετὰ τῶν ποιμένων Ισαακ φάσκοντες αὐτῶν εἶναι τὸ ὕδωρ· καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ φρέατος Ἀδικία· ἠδίκησαν γὰρ αὐτόν.
And the herdsmen of Gheràr quarreled with the herdsmen of Yitzchàq, saying: «The water is ours»; and he called the name of the well ⓘ, because they had contended with him.

ויחפרו באר אחרת ויריבו גם עליה ויקרא שמה שטנה
ἀπάρας δὲ Ισαακ ἐκεῖθεν ὤρυξεν φρέαρ ἕτερον, ἐκρίνοντο δὲ καὶ περὶ ἐκείνου· καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἐχθρία.
And they dug another well, and they quarreled over that one too; and he called it ⓘ.

ויעתק משם ויחפר באר אחרת ולא רבו עליה ויקרא שמה רחבות ויאמר כי עתה הרחיב יהוה לנו ופרינו בארץ
ἀπάρας δὲ ἐκεῖθεν ὤρυξεν φρέαρ ἕτερον, καὶ οὐκ ἐμαχέσαντο περὶ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Εὐρυχωρία λέγων Διότι νῦν ἐπλάτυνεν κύριος ἡμῖν καὶ ηὔξησεν ἡμᾶς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.
And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it; and he called it ⓘ, and said: «For now the Tetragrammaton has given us room and ⓘ he has made us grow in the land».

ויעל משם באר שבע
Ἀνέβη δὲ ἐκεῖθεν ἐπὶ τὸ φρέαρ τοῦ ὅρκου.
And he went up from there to ⓘ.
24
וירא אליו יהוה בלילה ההוא ויאמר אנכי אלהי אברהם אביך אל תירא כי אתך אנכי וברכתיך והרביתי את זרעך בעבור אברהם עבדי
καὶ ὤφθη αὐτῷ κύριος ἐν τῇ νυκτὶ ἐκείνῃ καὶ εἶπεν Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ θεὸς Αβρααμ τοῦ πατρός σου· μὴ φοβοῦ· μετὰ σοῦ γάρ εἰμι καὶ ηὐλόγηκά σε καὶ πληθυνῶ τὸ σπέρμα σου διὰ Αβρααμ τὸν πατέρα σου.
And the Tetragrammaton appeared to him that night and said: «I am ⓘ; fear not, for I am with you, and I will bless you and multiply your seed for the sake of Avrahàm my servant».

ויבן שם מזבח ויקרא בשם יהוה ויט שם אהלו ויכרו שם עבדי יצחק באר
καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν ἐκεῖ θυσιαστήριον καὶ ἐπεκαλέσατο τὸ ὄνομα κυρίου καὶ ἔπηξεν ἐκεῖ τὴν σκηνὴν αὐτοῦ· ὤρυξαν δὲ ἐκεῖ οἱ παῖδες Ισαακ φρέαρ.
And he built there an altar and ⓘ, and pitched there his tent; and the servants of Yitzchàq dug there a well.
26
ואבימלך הלך אליו מגרר ואחזת מרעהו ופיכל שר צבאו
καὶ Αβιμελεχ ἐπορεύθη πρὸς αὐτὸν ἀπὸ Γεραρων καὶ Οχοζαθ ὁ νυμφαγωγὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ Φικολ ὁ ἀρχιστράτηγος τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And Avimèlekh went to him from Gheràr, with ⓘ and Phikòl commander-in-chief of his army.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And Avimèlekh went to him from Gheràr, with ⓘ and Pikòl commander of his army.

ויאמר אלהם יצחק מדוע באתם אלי ואתם שנאתם אתי ותשלחוני מאתכם
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ισαακ Ἵνα τί ἤλθατε πρός με; ὑμεῖς δὲ ἐμισήσατέ με καὶ ἀπεστείλατέ με ἀφ’ ὑμῶν.
And Yitzchàq said to them: «Why have you come to me, you who hated me and sent me away from you?».
28
ויאמרו ראו ראינו כי היה יהוה עמך ונאמר תהי נא אלה בינותינו בינינו ובינך ונכרתה ברית עמך
καὶ εἶπαν Ἰδόντες ἑωράκαμεν ὅτι ἦν κύριος μετὰ σοῦ, καὶ εἴπαμεν Γενέσθω ἀρὰ ἀνὰ μέσον ἡμῶν καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον σοῦ, καὶ διαθησόμεθα μετὰ σοῦ διαθήκην
And they said: «ⓘ that the Tetragrammaton was with you, and we said: Let there be a ⓘ between us — between us and you — and let us cut with you a ⓘ,
29
אם תעשה עמנו רעה כאשר לא נגענוך וכאשר עשינו עמך רק טוב ונשלחך בשלום אתה עתה ברוך יהוה
μὴ ποιήσειν μεθ’ ἡμῶν κακόν, καθότι ἡμεῖς σε οὐκ ἐβδελυξάμεθα, καὶ ὃν τρόπον ἐχρησάμεθά σοι καλῶς καὶ ἐξαπεστείλαμέν σε μετ’ εἰρήνης· καὶ νῦν σὺ εὐλογητὸς ὑπὸ κυρίου.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——that you will do us no harm, ⓘ, and in the way we treated you well and sent you away in peace: and now you are ⓘ».—— Masoretic (MT) ——that you will do us no harm, as we ⓘ and as we did only good with you and sent you away in peace: you are now the ⓘ».

ויעש להם משתה ויאכלו וישתו
καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτοῖς δοχήν, καὶ ἔφαγον καὶ ἔπιον·
And he made them a banquet, and they ate and drank.
31
וישכימו בבקר וישבעו איש לאחיו וישלחם יצחק וילכו מאתו בשלום
καὶ ἀναστάντες τὸ πρωῒ ὤμοσαν ἄνθρωπος τῷ πλησίον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς Ισαακ, καὶ ἀπῴχοντο ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ μετὰ σωτηρίας.
And they rose in the morning and ⓘ; and Yitzchàq dismissed them, and they went from him ⓘ.

ויהי ביום ההוא ויבאו עבדי יצחק ויגדו לו על אדות הבאר אשר חפרו ויאמרו לו מצאנו מים
ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ παραγενόμενοι οἱ παῖδες Ισαακ ἀπήγγειλαν αὐτῷ περὶ τοῦ φρέατος, οὗ ὤρυξαν, καὶ εἶπαν Οὐχ εὕρομεν ὕδωρ.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And it came to pass on that day that, when the servants of Yitzchàq came, they reported to him concerning the well they had dug and said: «ⓘ».—— Masoretic (MT) ——And it came to pass on that day that the servants of Yitzchàq came and reported to him concerning the well they had dug and said to him: «ⓘ».

ויקרא אתה שבעה על כן שם העיר באר שבע עד היום הזה
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸ Ὅρκος· διὰ τοῦτο ὄνομα τῇ πόλει Φρέαρ ὅρκου ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας.
And he called it ⓘ; therefore the name of the city is ⓘ, Well of the Oath, until this day.

ויהי עשו בן ארבעים שנה ויקח אשה את יהודית בת בארי החתי ואת בשמת בת אילן החתי
Ἦν δὲ Ησαυ ἐτῶν τεσσαράκοντα καὶ ἔλαβεν γυναῖκα Ιουδιν τὴν θυγατέρα Βεηρ τοῦ Χετταίου καὶ τὴν Βασεμμαθ θυγατέρα Αιλων τοῦ Ευαίου.
—— Septuagint (LXX) ——And ʿEsàv was forty years old and took as wife Yehudìt the daughter of Beèr ⓘ and Basemmàth daughter of Ailòn ⓘ.—— Masoretic (MT) ——And ⓘ, and he took as wife Yehudìt daughter of Beerì ⓘ and Basmàt daughter of Elòn the Hittite;

ותהיין מרת רוח ליצחק ולרבקה
καὶ ἦσαν ἐρίζουσαι τῷ Ισαακ καὶ τῇ Ρεβεκκα.
and they were a ⓘ to Yitzchàq and to Rivqàh.
