Καὶ ἔρχονται εἰς χωρίον οὗ τὸ ὄνομα Γεθσημανί, καὶ λέγει τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ· Καθίσατε ὧδε ἕως προσεύξωμαι.
Giunsero a un podere chiamato Getsèmani ed egli disse ai suoi discepoli: «Sedetevi qui, mentre io prego».
They came to a plot of land whose name was Gethsemaneⓘ, and he said to his disciples: «Sit here, while I pray».

καὶ παραλαμβάνει τὸν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰάκωβον καὶ Ἰωάννην μετ' αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἤρξατο ἐκθαμβεῖσθαι καὶ ἀδημονεῖν,
Prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni e cominciò a sentire paura e angoscia.
And he took with him Peter, James, and John, and began to be distressed and troubledⓘ,

καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Περίλυπός ἐστιν ἡ ψυχή μου ἕως θανάτου· μείνατε ὧδε καὶ γρηγορεῖτε.
Disse loro: «La mia anima è triste fino alla morte. Restate qui e vegliate».
and said to them: «My soul, the nefesh,ⓘ is sorrowful unto death; remain here and keep watch».

καὶ προελθὼν μικρὸν ἔπιπτεν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ προσηύχετο ἵνα εἰ δυνατόν ἐστιν παρέλθῃ ἀπ' αὐτοῦ ἡ ὥρα,
Poi, andato un po' innanzi, cadde a terra e pregava che, se fosse possibile, passasse via da lui quell'ora.
And going a little ahead, he was falling to the groundⓘ and was praying, in the supplicating tefillah of the suffering righteous one, that, if it were possible, that hour might pass away from himⓘ,

καὶ ἔλεγεν· Αββα ὁ πατήρ, πάντα δυνατά σοι· παρένεγκε τὸ ποτήριον τοῦτο ἀπ' ἐμοῦ· ἀλλ' οὐ τί ἐγὼ θέλω ἀλλὰ τί σύ.
E diceva: «Abbà, Padre! Tutto è possibile a te: allontana da me questo calice! Però non ciò che voglio io, ma ciò che vuoi tu».
and he said: «Abba, Fatherⓘ! All things are possible to you: remove from me this cup, the kos of wrathⓘ! Yet not what I will, but what you willⓘ».

καὶ ἔρχεται καὶ εὑρίσκει αὐτοὺς καθεύδοντας, καὶ λέγει τῷ Πέτρῳ· Σίμων, καθεύδεις; οὐκ ἴσχυσας μίαν ὥραν γρηγορῆσαι;
Poi venne, li trovò addormentati e disse a Pietro: «Simone, dormi? Non sei riuscito a vegliare una sola ora?
And he came and found them sleepingⓘ, and said to Peter: «Simonⓘ, are you sleeping? Could you not find the strength to keep watch a single hour?

γρηγορεῖτε καὶ προσεύχεσθε, ἵνα μὴ ἔλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν· τὸ μὲν πνεῦμα πρόθυμον ἡ δὲ σὰρξ ἀσθενής.
Vegliate e pregate per non entrare in tentazione. Lo spirito è pronto, ma la carne è debole».
Watch and pray, that you do not enter into the trial, the nisayonⓘ. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weakⓘ».

καὶ πάλιν ἀπελθὼν προσηύξατο τὸν αὐτὸν λόγον εἰπών.
Si allontanò di nuovo e pregò dicendo le stesse parole.
And again, going away, he prayed, saying the same word.
40
καὶ πάλιν ἐλθὼν εὗρεν αὐτοὺς καθεύδοντας, ἦσαν γὰρ αὐτῶν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ καταβαρυνόμενοι, καὶ οὐκ ᾔδεισαν τί ἀποκριθῶσιν αὐτῷ.
Poi venne di nuovo e li trovò addormentati, perché i loro occhi si erano appesantiti, e non sapevano che cosa rispondergli.
And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they did not know what to answer him.

καὶ ἔρχεται τὸ τρίτον καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Καθεύδετε τὸ λοιπὸν καὶ ἀναπαύεσθε· ἀπέχει· ἦλθεν ἡ ὥρα, ἰδοὺ παραδίδοται ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰς τὰς χεῖρας τῶν ἁμαρτωλῶν.
Venne per la terza volta e disse loro: «Dormite pure e riposatevi! Basta! È venuta l'ora: ecco, il Figlio dell'uomo viene consegnato nelle mani dei peccatori.
And he came the third time and said to them: «Are you still sleeping and resting! Enough! The hour has come: behold, the Son of Man, the Bar Enash, is handed over into the hands of sinnersⓘ.

ἐγείρεσθε ἄγωμεν· ἰδοὺ ὁ παραδιδούς με ἤγγικεν.
Alzatevi, andiamo! Ecco, colui che mi tradisce è vicino».
Rise, let us go: behold, the one who hands me over is near».

Καὶ εὐθὺς ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος παραγίνεται Ἰούδας εἷς τῶν δώδεκα καὶ μετ' αὐτοῦ ὄχλος μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων παρὰ τῶν ἀρχιερέων καὶ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων.
E subito, mentre ancora egli parlava, arrivò Giuda, uno dei Dodici, e con lui una folla con spade e bastoni, mandata dai capi dei sacerdoti, dagli scribi e dagli anziani.
And at once, while he was still speaking, there came up Judas, one of the Twelveⓘ, and with him a crowd armed with temple servants, not the common folk am ha-aretz nor the laós (the people)ⓘ with swords and clubs, sent by the kohanim gedolim of the temple leadership, the priestly aristocracy of the Sadducean party (the Saddoukaioi)ⓘ, by the soferim, experts of the Torahⓘ, and by the elders, zeqenimⓘ, the three bodies of the Jerusalem Sanhedrin.

δεδώκει δὲ ὁ παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν σύσσημον αὐτοῖς λέγων· Ὃν ἂν φιλήσω αὐτός ἐστιν· κρατήσατε αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπάγετε ἀσφαλῶς.
Il traditore aveva dato loro un segno convenuto, dicendo: «Quello che bacerò, è lui; arrestatelo e conducetelo via sotto buona scorta».
The betrayerⓘ had given them an agreed sign, saying: «The one whom I kissⓘ, it is he; arrest him and lead him away under secure escort».

καὶ ἐλθὼν εὐθὺς προσελθὼν αὐτῷ λέγει· Ῥαββί, καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτόν.
Appena giunto, gli si avvicinò e disse: «Rabbì!», e lo baciò.
And having arrived, he immediately approached him and said: «Rabbi, my ravⓘ!», and kissed him effusivelyⓘ.

οἱ δὲ ἐπέβαλαν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῷ καὶ ἐκράτησαν αὐτόν.
Quelli gli misero le mani addosso e lo arrestarono.
They laid hands on him and arrested him.
47
εἷς δέ τις τῶν παρεστηκότων σπασάμενος τὴν μάχαιραν ἔπαισεν τὸν δοῦλον τοῦ ἀρχιερέως καὶ ἀφεῖλεν αὐτοῦ τὸ ὠτάριον.
Uno dei presenti estrasse la spada, colpì il servo del sommo sacerdote e gli staccò un orecchio.
One of those present, having drawn his sword (the ḥerevⓘ), struck the servant of the kohen gadolⓘ and cut off his ear.

καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθατε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων συλλαβεῖν με;
Allora Gesù disse loro: «Come se fossi un brigante siete venuti a prendermi con spade e bastoni.
And answering, Jesus said to them: «As against an armed rebel, a biryonⓘ have you come out with swords and clubs to seize me?

καθ' ἡμέραν ἤμην πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων καὶ οὐκ ἐκρατήσατέ με· ἀλλ' ἵνα πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαί.
Ogni giorno ero in mezzo a voi nel tempio a insegnare, e non mi avete arrestato. Si compiano dunque le Scritture!».
Every day I was among you in the Temple (the Beit ha-Miqdash, the sanctuary of Jerusalem), on the eve of Pèsaḥ (Pesach, the Passover), when capital cases were forbiddenⓘ teaching, and you did not arrest me; but let the Scriptures be fulfilled, the Ketuvimⓘ».

καὶ ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ἔφυγον πάντες.
Tutti lo abbandonarono e fuggirono.
And abandoning him, they all fledⓘ.
51
Καὶ νεανίσκος τις συνηκολούθει αὐτῷ περιβεβλημένος σινδόνα ἐπὶ γυμνοῦ, καὶ κρατοῦσιν αὐτόν,
Lo seguiva però un ragazzo, avvolto soltanto in un lenzuolo, e lo afferrarono.
And a young manⓘ was following him, wrapped in a linen cloth over his bare skin, and they seized him.
52
ὁ δὲ καταλιπὼν τὴν σινδόνα γυμνὸς ἔφυγεν.
Ma egli, lasciato cadere il lenzuolo, fuggì via nudo.
But he, leaving behind the linen cloth, fled nakedⓘ.
