Καὶ ἦσαν οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου καὶ οἱ ⸀Φαρισαῖοι νηστεύοντες. καὶ ἔρχονται καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· Διὰ τί οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου καὶ οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ τῶν Φαρισαίων νηστεύουσιν, οἱ δὲ σοὶ μαθηταὶ οὐ νηστεύουσιν;
I discepoli di Giovanni e i farisei stavano facendo un digiuno. Vennero da lui e gli dissero: «Perché i discepoli di Giovanni e i discepoli dei farisei digiunano, mentre i tuoi discepoli non digiunano?».
John's disciplesⓘ and the Pharisees (perushim, the scrupulous observants) were keeping a fastⓘ. They came and said to him: «Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but yours do not?».

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Μὴ δύνανται οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ νυμφῶνος ἐν ᾧ ὁ νυμφίος μετ’ αὐτῶν ἐστιν νηστεύειν; ὅσον χρόνον ⸂ἔχουσιν τὸν νυμφίον μετ’ αὐτῶν⸃ οὐ δύνανται νηστεύειν·
Gesù disse loro: «Possono forse digiunare gli invitati a nozze, quando lo sposo è con loro? Finché hanno lo sposo con loro, non possono digiunare.
Jesus said to them: «Can the sons of the wedding feastⓘ fast while the bridegroomⓘ is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

ἐλεύσονται δὲ ἡμέραι ὅταν ἀπαρθῇ ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ὁ νυμφίος, καὶ τότε νηστεύσουσιν ἐν ⸂ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ⸃.
Ma verranno giorni quando lo sposo sarà loro tolto: allora, in quel giorno, digiuneranno.
Daysⓘ will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from themⓘ, and thenⓘ, on that day, they will fastⓘ.

⸀Οὐδεὶς ἐπίβλημα ῥάκους ἀγνάφου ἐπιράπτει ἐπὶ ⸂ἱμάτιον παλαιόν⸃· εἰ δὲ μή, αἴρει τὸ πλήρωμα ⸀ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ τὸ καινὸν τοῦ παλαιοῦ, καὶ χεῖρον σχίσμα γίνεται.
Nessuno cuce un pezzo di stoffa grezza su un vestito vecchio, altrimenti il rattoppo nuovo porta via qualcosa alla stoffa vecchia e lo strappo diventa peggiore.
No oneⓘ sews a patch of unshrunk cloth onto an old garmentⓘ: otherwise the fillingⓘ pulls away from it, and the tear becomes worse.

καὶ οὐδεὶς βάλλει οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς παλαιούς· εἰ δὲ μή, ⸂ῥήξει ὁ οἶνος⸃ τοὺς ἀσκούς, καὶ ὁ οἶνος ⸂ἀπόλλυται καὶ οἱ ἀσκοί⸃. ἀλλὰ οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς ⸀καινούς.
E nessuno versa vino nuovo in otri vecchi, altrimenti il vino spaccherà gli otri, e si perdono vino e otri. Ma vino nuovo in otri nuovi!».
And no one pours new wine into old wineskinsⓘ: otherwise the wine would burst the wineskins, and wine and wineskinsⓘ are lost. But new wine into new wineskinsⓘ!».
