36
and, fixing his gaze on Jesus as he passed by, he proclaims: «Behold the Lamb of Godⓘ».
37
E i suoi due discepoli, sentendolo parlare così, seguirono Gesù.
The two disciples heard his word and began to followⓘ Jesus.
38
στραφεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ θεασάμενος αὐτοὺς ἀκολουθοῦντας λέγει αὐτοῖς· Τί ζητεῖτε; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Ῥαββί, ὃ λέγεται μεθερμηνευόμενον Διδάσκαλε, ποῦ μένεις;
Jesus, turning around and seeing that they were following him, says to them: «What are you seekingⓘ?». And they answered him: «Rabbiⓘ — which, translated, means Teacher — where are you stayingⓘ?».
39
He says to them: «Come and you will seeⓘ». They came therefore, saw where he was staying and remained with him that day; it was about the tenth hourⓘ.
40
Andrewⓘ, brother of Simon Peterⓘ, was one of the two who had heard the word of John and had begun to follow Jesus.
41
This one findsⓘ first his own brother Simon and announces to him: «We have found the Messiahⓘ, the Anointed — which is called Christⓘ».
42
And he led him to Jesus. Jesus, gazing at him, said to him: «You are Simon, son of Johnⓘ; you shall be calledⓘ Cephasⓘ, the Rock — which is translated Peter».
