Ἔλεγον οὖν τινες ἐκ τῶν Ἱεροσολυμιτῶν· Οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὃν ζητοῦσιν ἀποκτεῖναι;
Intanto alcuni abitanti di Gerusalemme dicevano: 'Non è costui quello che cercano di uccidere?
Some of the inhabitants of Jerusalemⓘ were saying therefore: «Is this not the one whom they are seeking to killⓘ?

καὶ ἴδε παρρησίᾳ λαλεῖ καὶ οὐδὲν αὐτῷ λέγουσιν. μήποτε ἀληθῶς ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἄρχοντες ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ χριστός;
Ecco, egli parla liberamente, eppure non gli dicono nulla. I capi hanno forse riconosciuto davvero che egli è il Cristo?
And behold, with authoritative boldnessⓘ he speaks publicly, and they say nothing to him. Have the leaders of the councilⓘ truly recognized that this is the Messiahⓘ?

ἀλλὰ τοῦτον οἴδαμεν πόθεν ἐστίν· ὁ δὲ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔρχηται, οὐδεὶς γινώσκει πόθεν ἐστίν.
Ma costui sappiamo di dov'è; il Cristo invece, quando verrà, nessuno saprà di dove sia'.
But we know where this man comes from; the Messiah, however, when he comes, no one will know where he comes fromⓘ».

ἔκραξεν οὖν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ λέγων· Κἀμὲ οἴδατε καὶ οἴδατε πόθεν εἰμί· καὶ ἀπ' ἐμαυτοῦ οὐκ ἐλήλυθα, ἀλλ' ἔστιν ἀληθινὸς ὁ πέμψας με, ὃν ὑμεῖς οὐκ οἴδατε·
Gesù allora, mentre insegnava nel tempio, esclamò: 'Certo, voi mi conoscete e sapete di dove sono. Eppure non sono venuto da me stesso, ma chi mi ha mandato è veritiero, e voi non lo conoscete.
Jesus therefore cried out, teaching in the Templeⓘ and saying: «You know me and you know where I am from; yet I have not come on my own initiativeⓘ, but he who sent me is truthfulⓘ, and you do not know him.

ἐγὼ οἶδα αὐτόν, ὅτι παρ' αὐτοῦ εἰμι κἀκεῖνός με ἀπέστειλεν.
Io lo conosco, perché vengo da lui ed egli mi ha mandato'.
I know him, because I come from him and he sent me as his envoyⓘ».

Ἐζήτουν οὖν αὐτὸν πιάσαι, καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπέβαλεν ἐπ' αὐτὸν τὴν χεῖρα, ὅτι οὔπω ἐληλύθει ἡ ὥρα αὐτοῦ.
Cercavano allora di arrestarlo, ma nessuno riuscì a mettere le mani su di lui, perché non era ancora giunta la sua ora.
They were seeking therefore to arrest himⓘ, but no one laid hands on himⓘ, because his hour had not yet comeⓘ.

Ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου δὲ πολλοὶ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν, καὶ ἔλεγον· Ὁ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔλθῃ μὴ πλείονα σημεῖα ποιήσει ὧν οὗτος ἐποίησεν;
Molti della folla invece credettero in lui, e dicevano: 'Il Cristo, quando verrà, compirà forse segni più grandi di quelli che ha fatto costui?'.
Yet many from the crowd of am ha-aretzⓘ believedⓘ in him, and they were saying: «The Messiah, when he comes, will he perhaps do more signsⓘ than this man has performed?».
