Greekκαὶ ἴδε παρρησίᾳ λαλεῖ καὶ οὐδὲν αὐτῷ λέγουσιν· μήποτε ἀληθῶς ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἄρχοντες ὅτι οὗτός ⸀ἐστιν ὁ χριστός;
Gnostic TranslationEcco, egli parla apertamente, eppure non gli dicono niente. Che forse i capi abbiano riconosciuto davvero che egli è il Cristo?
Orthodox ReadingAnd behold, he speaks openlyⓘ, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the notables and the elders (zeqenim) (the árchontesⓘ) have truly recognized that this man is the Christ?

Greekἀλλὰ τοῦτον οἴδαμεν πόθεν ἐστίν· ὁ δὲ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔρχηται οὐδεὶς γινώσκει πόθεν ἐστίν.
Gnostic TranslationMa costui sappiamo di dov'è; il Cristo invece, quando verrà, nessuno saprà di dove sia».
Orthodox ReadingYet we know where this man comes from; but the Christ, when he comes, no one will know where he comes fromⓘ».

Greekἔκραξεν οὖν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ λέγων· Κἀμὲ οἴδατε καὶ οἴδατε πόθεν εἰμί· καὶ ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐκ ἐλήλυθα, ἀλλ’ ἔστιν ἀληθινὸς ὁ πέμψας με, ὃν ὑμεῖς οὐκ οἴδατε·
Gnostic TranslationGesù allora, mentre insegnava nel tempio, esclamò: «Certo, voi mi conoscete e sapete di dove sono. Eppure io non sono venuto da me stesso, ma chi mi ha mandato è veritiero, e voi non lo conoscete.
Orthodox ReadingJesus then, teaching in the Templeⓘ, cried outⓘ saying: «You know me and you know where I am from; yet I have not come of my own selfⓘ, but he who sent me is truthfulⓘ, whom you do not know.

Greekἐζήτουν οὖν αὐτὸν πιάσαι, καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπέβαλεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν τὴν χεῖρα, ὅτι οὔπω ἐληλύθει ἡ ὥρα αὐτοῦ.
Gnostic TranslationAllora cercavano di arrestarlo, ma nessuno riuscì a mettergli le mani addosso, perché non era ancora giunta la sua ora.
Orthodox ReadingThey were therefore seeking to seize himⓘ, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet comeⓘ.

Greek⸂ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου δὲ πολλοὶ⸃ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν, καὶ ⸀ἔλεγον· Ὁ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔλθῃ ⸀μὴ πλείονα ⸀σημεῖα ποιήσει ὧν οὗτος ἐποίησεν;
Gnostic TranslationMolti della folla invece credettero in lui, e dicevano: «Il Cristo, quando verrà, compirà forse segni più grandi di quelli che ha fatto costui?».
Orthodox ReadingFrom the crowdⓘ, however, many believed in him, and they were saying: «When the Christ comes, will he perhaps perform more signsⓘ than this man has done?».

GreekἬκουσαν οἱ Φαρισαῖοι τοῦ ὄχλου γογγύζοντος περὶ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα, καὶ ἀπέστειλαν ⸂οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι ὑπηρέτας⸃ ἵνα πιάσωσιν αὐτόν.
Gnostic TranslationI farisei udirono che la gente sussurrava queste cose di lui; perciò i capi dei sacerdoti e i farisei mandarono delle guardie per arrestarlo.
Orthodox ReadingThe Pharisees (perushim — the scrupulous observers of the oral Torahⓘ) heard the crowd murmuring these things about him, and the chief priests, the archiereis of Sadducean extraction (Saddoukaioi) — the kohanim gedolim, the priestly summit of the Temple (the kohanim of the summitⓘ) — together with the Pharisees (perushim) sent the Temple guards in the service of the kohanim (hypēretaiⓘ) to arrest him.

Gnostic TranslationGesù disse: «Ancora per poco tempo io sono con voi; poi vado da colui che mi ha mandato.
Orthodox ReadingJesus then said: «Yet for a little whileⓘ I am with you, and I go to him who sent meⓘ.

Greekζητήσετέ με καὶ οὐχ ⸀εὑρήσετε, καὶ ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν.
Gnostic TranslationVoi mi cercherete e non mi troverete; e dove sono io, voi non potete venire».
Orthodox ReadingYou will seek me and you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot comeⓘ».
